Hi tomley, thanks so much for the shoutout to my RUclips channel and Instagram I'm am very grateful for that mate, I'm glad you like the decals bud, it was nice to be able to give back to someone like you who puts in a lot of effort to help and create content for us.
Man I love that performance analyser so handy very very cool, I might have to check those out..
Got to love the TT01E I love mine, a few upgrades makes a world of difference to these chassis..
Thanks again buddy, happy rcing and stay safe 👍
No worries Marc. I forgot to mention the fridge magnet.... my daughter loves throwing it and sticking it to to the door 😎👍
Tomley RC hi mate, ah no problem.. haha bless her, it was a good think I did a light magnet then.👍
@@TomleyRC that's good speed but go buy yourself a super stock RZ motor. I run 2 of them in my Super Hot Shot and my Hot Shot. Both full ball bearings and using 2s lipo and 13 tooth pinion to get the best of this motors power band because the motor reaches 27500 RPM so a lower pinion gets a great top end without over gearing the motor. I got Louise phantom rear tyres and Schumacher mezzo I think on front and the car wheelstands lifting the front to the heavens 💪👌 I get using a 2s lipo nvision battery 44-45 kmh or 27 mph. Pretty happy with that Super Hot Shot. It actually goes faster than my Kyosho Fazer mk 2 Chevy Camaro which uses a 14 turn brushed G14 motor also on 2 S lipo only gives 42 kmh or 26 mph. Go figure . However the Kyosho Fazer is a much much better handling car than the Tamiya Super Hot Shot and Hot Shot. They're both 40 year old designs although they're both re release kits that I brought new last year. Thank again TomleyRC for an AWESOME channel. Oh and it's good to see that you and Kevin Talbot are on good terms now. I realise this is a old video but yeh in 2023 on RUclips things with you 2 were getting quite silly and heated. Glad to see you two have patched up the situation.👌💪👍
Thanks! Good to know. I was getting nervous about not being able to get a black can still. Good news that it will run the same or even better. Cheers!
Great stuff!
Love these vids, keep them coming
Thanks mate
Another great video.
Thanks for the comparison 👍
No worries Paul
Like that gps, like the sports tuned, and like the orange Capri. Like the video!
Great man, I appreciate a lot this great reviews of motors. Thank you very much bro! Keep it up!!
Thank you
Loving these stats based vids
Thanks dude
Such a great analytic test, Phil - good information throughout. So you proved the new silver Sport Tuned is worth going for, it's only a little faster, but in terms of scale-speed and the extra punch you mention it really does seem a good buy! Cheers, dude! :))
Yes Mark, it feels more powerful in the hand..... so certainly worth giving one a go. Have a good weekend mate.... nearly there!
But I still like the look of the black can
You definitely showed who took the title here. Nice video brother, that ride is sweet .
Thank you
Awesome 👍 getting one of those gps speed meters on Friday . Can't wait to try it out.
They are really good
Im excited now my first tamiya (racing fighter) came with a silver sport tuned motor
=) =)
That’s pretty cool that they actually improved the new motor , I guess I’m going to have to try some lipos . I do like the car you’ve been using though . That’s about as much speed as I would want a brushless motor would probably be almost uncontrollable.
Yes, for this car, I don't want it uncontrollable. I'll be building a really fast tamiya soon. I'll put a more common shell on that, one that would be easy to replace if it broke
What an excellent combination of entertainment and informative content! Personally I´d happily watch this Capri all day even without the excuse of the performance tests, but you did a grest job of assessing them impartially.
Needless to say, after your casual throwaway remark I´m curious to see what sort of send-off you have planned for the inadequate impostor motor...
I'd pry loose the tabs on the brush plate, advance the brushes to 30 degrees and see how long it lasts before baking itself. it's probably a neutral timed can motor (both directions same RPM) so it'd be easy to turn the cap 1/3 of 90 degrees counter clockwise (end facing) so brushes advanced 30 degrees to CCW rotation (normal running direction).
motor itself might not be all that bad if it were set to 20 or 24 degrees, but I'd go for the torture of 30 degrees just to see if it'd sizzle when I spit on it...
@@modelnutty6503 Ha ha! Perhaps Phil will run it at 20-24 degrees first, then advance it to a full 30.
Thanks Del.... and yes... I may advance that thing as far as it will go haha
I would have bet anything the black can would be quicker than silver but here ya go. Thanks for sharing ✌️
Just for nostalgia I'd prefer a black can version tbh
Yeah that was Cool..I like the App on your phone. Never seen that before..yeah Sweet Car.. Good Job 👍😉💯
Thanks Mark. New product from SkyRC... works really well
Cool dude that's awesome wish I had one nice filming too
Thanks mate
Brushed are okay for nostalgia and crawlers too! I caught myself hating on something and I'm against any hate for the hobby my apologizes hating brushed electronics
Sick Mate!
I reckon You could push the already Aero awesomeness on this model down harder, probably half der reason it runs so good already?
Dis stuff is so addictive Man, unreal Tommy, love it.
Yes, I have a decent area to speed run now, so would like to get this a bit quicker :)
Beautiful looking model and goes very well .even on 2 cell .
👍 Nice! that capri is sweet!
Cheers Steve, it's a BEAUTY
Kind of strange here in Australia we get Tamiya sport tuned motors in siver can with a fancy sticker.ive never seen them black can fake sport tuned in any shops I go to. But I have seen them online from eBay and Amazon and I don't buy from either them 2 . I do remember years back the Sport Tuned genuine Tamiya motor was a black can so that may be an indication that these black can motors are not a genuine Tamiya product. It seems Tamiya has changed from the black can to silver with the nice sport tuned sticker. Buyer beware. Thanks TomleyRC your channel is AWESOME and you definitely have got a subscription from me👍👌
Got a few of those WP1040 and WP1080 ESCs there very good
Seems to work well.
Phil, you have been getting into sci fi stuff with that analyzer
analyzed and organized? RUN !!!
i had that same one the capri body jagermiester brushless ,i sold it soon after running a few times just didnt handle or perform well at all ,so much for expert built ,maybe they should define expert lol
Thanks so much for doing these!! For the same price as that FAKE, you can get a FASTER 21T Motor!!
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
... Tamiya On-Road on 3S - always a WINNER 🏆!!!!
Great vid mate..been wanting to see the new silver st up against the black st..defo seems bit quicker👌 makes you wonder if the silver is genuine 23 turn and the black is 27 with advanced timing as the silver says 23t on the box where black doesnt..makes you wonder..great test tho👍
I think there were some 23T & 27T Black cans... depending on where in the world you were. But from what I've read, all the later ones were 27T with advanced timing
That Capri is cool to watch. It sounded sweet flying by with the silver can/3s combo. I was really surprised to see it hit 32mph. Now try that Capri with a brushless/6s combo 😂. You may not have any gears (or car) left after but it will look good on video, lol. Then again that car is way too nice to destroy, wait til a Chinese knock off comes out to try it,lol.
haha...yeah, I actually hit the curb with this...that was enough to realise it doesn't need to go any faster
I am first to comment.... lol.....Nicely done! That Capri body in the Jagermeister scheme is lovely.....I might have to build mine now.....lol
Yes, it's a very good looking car!
New sub here. I watched the other vid where you showed the Tuned clone motor.
But I am glad to see you put the rubber to the road and compare all of the "real" Tamiya motors. I have been curious to see if there are actual differences between them all.
Thank-you for going on with it, very informative!
How about a 12 turn motor upgrade would that be faster I had helion criterion buggy with 12turn motor and it was bloody quick 30+mph
The new sport tuned is definitely faster but you have to take into consideration that the "C" rating does make a difference since it supplies power to the motor faster that's why the difference between the motors grew larger when u switched the higher "C" rating 3s lipo. I really enjoyed the video! Keep it up!❤
You have a good point, although i'm sure these don't pull anywhere near the max current of the smallest Lipo I used.
Agreed! I love when you do motor comparisons that was really interesting hope you have more of these planned in the future! Cheers 🍺
Will be doing some more soon. Have a nice new straight smooth stretch to use. So will do some faster ones
Should do same test with the original kit silver can and see just much of a worthwile investment (or not) over stock can the Sport Tuned really is
The Silver Can does 16mph on 2s, and not quite as much punch
BAH(haha) wish I had a couple old school Associated+Reedy stock motors for ya.
27 turn 20 degree brush timing and nice strong magnets, they were pretty fast running.
Yes, some of the old stuff is good even today!
for a stock motor (replaceable brushes too) they were great torque monsters. a little attention with a com stick and break in a set of soft brushes, they're good to GO! the only one I have left here is in a 20" scratch built mud dragster project.
I see Gr.5 Capri...I like & subscribe!
cool video :) im trying to get my mn99 fixed because i broke the servo, the seller lied it was all plastic gears lol even on the box it says all metal, did you have that with your mn99?
The boxes on MN Models are very deceptive unless you're really paying attention. I got a D99 anniversary colours one the other day, it said on the box metal gears, metal shocks and metal drive shafts. I was highly dubious and obviously it didn't have any of those things, so I wasn't terribly upset when I opened it. I did have a scan round the box, and next to it in tiny writing was the word 'Accessory'. Bit misleading but that's Chinese Manufacturers for you! 😔
What would interest me is to see how the New BZ & RZ compare . I think the BZ. Is supposed to have a Lot of torque while the RZ has a bit less torque but a little more RPM.
Check out Tamiya Legends.... I think Glenn has tested them
Tomley RC yes cheers , strange the lower rpm and higher torque BZ managed a better speed than higher rpm and lower torque RZ so it seems torque wins .
And thats on the stadard plastic bearings & friction shocks?
It'd be interesting to see the difference with ball bearings & mini cvas on top speed & acceleration. (I am assuming here the friction shocks can't keep the tires in contact with the road as well as the cvas would so grip/acceleration would be less)
Yes, good shout.... I'll be upgrading it soon. So will test it again on the same road
Great video. What a difference a battery can make! I wouldn't have thought a $25 brushed motor would hit 30MPH regardless of battery. Just out of curiosity, do you have any figures on how fast that car is using a standard NiMH in the 3000+ mAH range?
Cheers mate. NiMH is usually a couple of mph slower
With Standart Nimh it would have hit about 18Mph
The Lipos that fit Tamiya link is broken. I got here a little late it seems :(
do we know if the silver can is lower turn count than the older black? for these light weigh cars and lipo batteries should be minimal loss of acceleration. back in nicd days higher turn could really hurt the performance.
your old black sport tuned motor , is it the long shaft version ?
I thought it would go from 20mph to 25, getting 30mph was impressive
brushed are less efficient but still follow similar voltage\RPM rules like brushless..
4000kv @ 7v = 28k rpm etc
I’m thinking of running this set up. Can I use a THW-1060RTR speed controller?
I'm running a 3s 6000mah on the torque tuned motor genuine... and it's really fast lol. Tt02.... I did notice the motor got hot... but this was after an hours use....
Have you blown any of these stock motors on a 3s?
What gearing buddy
Why does the car make that sort of electronic sound as it pulls away?
Pretty impressive considering that motor isn't particularly high tech...
to be fair to cheap Chinese motors, (not trolling you) the only ones I've had trouble with came in WPL trucks 😫😫😫 All sorts of proper sized ones have served me well
Yes, there are some very poor products out there.
Where can I get those tires and wheels?
Does the stock TEU 105BK runs in problem with the SPort Tuned?
when it was running in a 2S battery?
Not sure, it’s not something I’ve heard before
I have a old 1980s Tamiya ferrari f189 late edition 1/10 which I put a new esc and receiver but left the stock motor and on 3s It did 65 kph (40 mph)
Btw the old esc and receiver were broken when I got it
Fast for an 80s RC 👍🏻
I bet you can get more speed on a smoother surface.
Tamiya 380 sports tuned is probably better choice. Special for the grasshopper. 😉
i have 2 of those old ones.one its in an tamiya Mazda 7878 le mans version.and on 2s it looks way faster that urs.i mean i thing it goes about 60 cuz its way faster than the wpl12428 and that one does 40km/h.i don`t know, i just say its fast
Can the 40th anniversary Porsche 954 drivetrain handle the 3s speeds , ? Seems pretty robust all bearing drivetrain and hardened drive shaft ..thx !
They all can handle it
Absima Thrust B-Spec 8t Motor fairly rapid on ni-mh battry. so according to this video if i get a 2s li po batty
i should find myself getting even more speed. what 2s battery and charger do u recommend. I am in the uk.
I use Gensace 4000mah ones. They are on the Gensace.de store.
@@TomleyRC fit tamiya ta01 chassis?
Programa smartphone please
Are my eyes seeing what I'm seeing, are you running A 540 can on 3 s, every one on vlogs are saying that a brushed motor can't be ran on 3s?????????😮😮😮😮😮
Can I just send you personally a video. I don’t make them yet, but I do have some things I know you will be interested in and perhaps you can help me figure out how to share with other viewers. Motor lathe, 20+ brushed vintage motors. Brushless motor analyzer and many brushless motors, sensored and unsensored.
But can you run 3S on a stock tamiya motor??
It got really hot, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you gear it down a bit
If you want to destroyer that motor run it on 6s lipo batteries that will be great send off 💪
haha...yeah
you really should have stuck to 0-15mph to see what the time is then you can compare with the earlier test of the silver can. No sense in doing 0-18 for this and 0-15 for silver can. Also, the knock off sport tune on 2s did 0-15 in 1.05 which is definitely a fast motor vs these on 3s!! Try racing on a short twisty course and you will see that these will not be able to do much against the knock off sport tune.
why has always Tamiya been slower than other 1/10 body RC cars? I used to have one and it lagged behind everyone else :/
Did u use stock 61T spur gear?
Yeah, all stock
@@TomleyRC do you think the torque tuned motor can take 3s lipo like sport tuned one?
Hot motor ❤🔥🏆😇😊👑😎😄👍👉♥️
Where can I get that car
I think they discontinued it a few years back.
Hi what esc u use?
HW3....
Sorry...Tesla joke haha. Err... it's a basic one similar to the Quicrun 1060.
@@TomleyRC ok thanks
Get 550 15t on 2s
It's hard to not think negatively.
It is old old tech vs new old tech????
Can't see the appeal to be honest.
I’m not sure brushed motor technology has advanced at all in 30yrs. This video was more aimed at the guys that still run their Tamiya’s pretty ‘period stock’.... not everyone’s going to find it interesting 👍
@@TomleyRC It was kinda interesting. It would be nice to see (if any) the improvement that made it faster.
Thin can😂do some new wpl videos
Hopefully have some WPL ones coming soon
@@TomleyRC I have my 1 kit with v3 electronics. And I impressed for what you pay you get much more
The collector motor is an outdated mammoth shit.
Slow vs slow...so WHO ist slower than slow!?🤣
I found my clean scissors I have four more graphics I have my catholic holy bible such as described I have painted the brake calipers dark blue the spring shock and the lower only conc. Air shocks dark blue the above section of airshock is black the paint will come off to reveal CHROME for the following mountain 24" bicycle with front rear spring suspension the scrape stopper is also painted dark blue by the back wheel tire gears thanks
