The very first Nitro RC car was the 1964 Feldmann from Germany. Probably the first RC car ever. Later in the 1960s, companies like Micart (1966) and Dynamic (1968) produced the first vehicles in series. Kyosho´s Dash 1 from 1969 was the first successful model.

I think the real breakthrough for R/C in cars was in the servos somtime in the mid 60s a servo was developed that had a lot more comtrol.
Prior to that servos were just an on /off switch which is probably what that 64 rc car had.
Tether cars date back to the 20s & they were going a lot faster than 60mph pretty early on.
The rail cars were a thing in the 50s possibly even the 40s & slot cars took over that in the late 50s.
A lot of the U.S start of R/C & R.O.A.R was from the slot car scene mainly in California some of the more mechanical minded guys as soon as technology (the servos & radio gear ) became available jumped straight on it.
A good example is Gene Husting of team associated a pioneer in slot cars & R/C.
Also I believe the Jerrobee was the first decent rtr rc car in about 70-71.

Preset speed in either direction. Your speed was dependent on how fresh the batteries were. I liked doing the 'Jim Rockford" 180° spinouts in reverse with it, with the fresh batteries in. My last new Build?, A Xray XB808 4wd Buggy, that won me ALOT of races. Still have it. I found one of the limited edition 1/10 scale Mugen Seiki MST1 nitro trucks, still in the box, with Novarossi engine included. They only made them for a couple years. Going to put that one together soon. I am making a parts pile for it, because of the rarity.

OK it is just a video game but so representative of the mentality of this period.
In the game, at St-Denis (Chapter 4 or over) we have the opportunity to elvolve with small RC boats (with evolving capaities of course like torpedos for the fun of the game). This is really Tesla's design. Of course this game is absolutely amazing with so many references to old and current events.

My first R/C vehicle from what I recall was either a Max Machine or my tractor trailer model of the truck on the TV series "Moving On" that you could only steer from the control. You had to turn it on and off using a switch on the truck itself. It may have had 2 speeds controlled by another switch on the truck. I think that it may have used "reed relay switches as I took it apart later in life.

Interesting video, but you've got a few things and dates confused, like the difference between remote control, radio control and neither (those gas powered RTP and rail track cars had no outside control at all, it was strictly a speed contest). The first gas-powered model cars emerged in California in about 1937 and the first rail track for these cars shortly before WW2. The first known slot car set was released by Lionel in 1912, although guidance was more of a rail system; other systems, none very successful, followed in the 30s, 40s and 50s, then British electric rail racing clubs appeared in 1955, and Scalextric and VIP slot racing sets in 1957 (not to mention a one-lane system from the German company BUB in 1953). There were plenty of R/C ships, boats and cars pretty early on, but they were very expensive and I don't think any were commercially produced. Early 60s sounds about right for that. R/C started taking over from slot cars in the 70s, but slots never disappeared and have enjoyed a few revivals since then, just like slot cars should have replaced the RTP (Round the Pole) cars, but a few tracks still exist. Didn't know about Marconi's submarine - fantastic!

Wrong. The video is about his chosen subject which is remote control

Wrong. Slot cars are not radio control. This video is clearly about remote control cars. Wired remote or radio remote. The mistake he made was include tether cars which are neither

@@michaelinzitari not wrong it is a radio and a transmitter and it is the correct term. Remote control is often used in place of radio control but it isn’t correct.

The original title of this video was "The History of Radio Control", but RUclips didn't promote it until I changed the title. Blame RUclips's algorithm.

Nikola Tesla may have invented rc control, but it was Walt and Bill Good who made it affortable and usable to the public, and they are not mentioned in this video
but they are the ones that made the RC hobby possible
