Gylwain can actually be a really sweet commander with creatures that want to be enchanted. There are a couple of early commander gameplay videos of him and his ability can actually provide a ton of value.
Celebration was designed purely with limited and maybe standard in mind. It's located in boros which is usually one of the aggressive limited archtypes. Celebration as a payoff for going wide and low to the ground so you can double spell perfectly fits into that niche. Also quick note on roles: the casting director does not work well with doubling season and co since every creature can only ever have a single role token attached to it so if you get two roles attached to it you'd have to sac one of them.
Agatha doesn't pumps herself with her ability, only "other creatures you control", so activating that ability it's not a discount for itself. You have to pump Agatha in some other ways
Eriette might be the first deck I build with almost no creatures. Using enough goad auras and low cost auras on creature decks you could theoretically just keep making the other players attack each other. Even if they can't attack you when charmed by an auura the opponents may not wanna attack but forcing them do can make that life drain you do to everyone speed the game up quicker and force opponents to focus on other threats at the table besides you sitting their pillowforted up.
Also if you use the Spirit Loop and other two similar auras that give you life when a creature deals damage you can feasibly win with Felidar Sovereign with how much life you gain lol.
A somewhat niche idea I want to do is Greta, Sweet Tooth scourge. Naturally you can use her as food sacrifice which I like because you still have the option and build around to use it as life gain synergy, but you can also use her as +1/+1 counter synergy. After selling my collection and getting back into magic with Zendikar Rising I’ve wanted to make a +1/+1 counter golgari deck to work with many of the black and green cards in the set however there wasn’t really a great commander for giving other creatures +1/+1 counters in these colours. But now with have not only a great commander but a Greta commander (I’ll see my self out). Also allows me to make a deck where I can feel good about using Ayara’s Oathsworn which is a card I love but doesn’t work that well as a card in my other decks (wanted to make an illegal deck where it was my commander however). Many of the life gain cards also work with counters so that is a bit of crossover with foods. Overall I hope it’s fun, although probably on the weaker side, but as a black commander which works with sacrificing, life totals and cards that I’ve wanted to run for a while I’m excited. Edit: it’s also a warrior so it has synergy with the party mechanics from that set.
After getting a Greta in one of my prerelease packs, planning to build around her for my first custom commander deck! I doubt it will be super powerful or anything, but I just really love the concept and flavor (pun intended)!
Greta's on my radar too, don't look down on her, having a commander with a sacrifice ability will always be good, plus Golgari is getting incredibly consistent with food shenanigans. As more food support is printed, I believe she'll become a force to be reckoned with.
So, a few points on eriette as I have a deck with her. 1. There is a one mana enchantment that gives your auras flash, so combing that with one mana auras and a smothering tithe or monolog tax or whatever works well. 2. There are 2 auras, one white one black that both cost 1 of their color, and that say, "whenever enchanted creature deals damage gain that much life." It does not grant lifelink so you can enchantment big opponent creatures and gain life whenever they hurt someone else, making the pillow fort easier. 3. Eriette is very "target me" with removal so keeping her alive with ghostform effects or flagbearer auras on other creatures is a must. 4. In addition to eldrazi conscription as a big win con there is a 2 mana aura that just says "enchanted creature gains infect." Kingmake someone else and they will definitely pull agro despite it being your card.
I've started a brew with Goddric, have yet to properly playtest in my group but he's pretty interesting. You do have to work a bit for it to make him a dragon, and he works best imo as a beater (he has haste and flying, powerful combo), throwing around 6-7 commander damage per hit (if you pump him). I do have some dragons in the deck, but only around 8-9, and they are ones that make BIG impacts (eg Blast Furnace Hellkite, Drakuseth, etc).
For Ruby, you could do extra combats as well since the buff stays until end of turn. It will stack up. Low mana value and haste as well. There are better commanders to do extra combats with, but it’s an option that has potential.
If you don't plan on attacking with her a lot, Neva also works in a flicker theme. Get these sacrificial enchantments back and reuse them over and over again.
For Yenna my mind instantly went to Sagas. I know we got Tom Bombadil for your Saga commander and this can easily spot into that deck, but I still think there is value in a commander that essentially lets you use your sagas more than once.
Brenard doesn't need any anthems for food-tokens-turned-creatures: he IS an anthem. He gives them +2/+2 and trample, remember? It would probably be a good idea to have backup anthems, though, lest a single removal spell turn into a board wipe for all your animated foods. But I think a deck based around him and March of the Machines (the card) would be a fun one to build and pilot. (Not to mention, it would also "accidentally" completely hose opponents' treasures!)
For Talion and copies there's no drawback to choosing the same number more than once since they're separate triggers. So I'd go 2 and then 3 and then repeat 2 or 3 for each additional copy.
Playing Gylwain as a way to pump up big guys that should have trample but don't seems fun. Obviously color identity is an issue, but something like Yargle and Multani with the monster role seems fun.
Eriette is actually a good voltron commander because the drain only cares about controlling auras meaning you can just throw them on her and maybe every once in a while attach something to an opponent’s creature if it’s a Blightsteel Colossus or something.
Another point on imodane you didn't mention except for a passing comment, and damage multipler itself gets doubled as if I bolt a mana dork, that's 6 to the dork so then imodane does 6 to each opponent that is then doubled to 12.
With gylwain I added a bit of a sub theme of creatures that get big for the number of creatures you control, those creatures usually don’t have trample and this is a go wide deck so those creatures get huge
Completely unrelated to the video, but how do you make decks not feel really similar and samey? I love the etb flicker strategy and a lot of my decks tend towards that and im trying to to make all of my decks exactly the same
Hey does anyone know the video demo did that had a few creatures that wanted to be blocked like tolarian enchanter and drolnoch? Making a deck around lure effects and wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything
I like "red herring" commanders, because I get to sneak in the "wanted poster" commanders. For instance... ...my Skanos Dragonheart//Acolyte of Bahamut mono-green dragons has Old Gnawbone in the 98. Even so, opponents don't expect such restricted colors for dragons tribal to work, since the usual expectations have opponents anticipating the typical "haymakers" and "win-more" dragons of 5-color dragons tribal decks. Due to being mono-green, my opponents are going to be wondering more as to what I'll be doing (especially mono-green).
@edhdeckbuilding I don't understand what's meant by this. Even if you attach your Aura Curses to a creature you don't control, you still control the Aura, which both of Eriette's abilities care about. Edit: Upon review, I realize that those enchantments are not "Curses". Another weird Magic thing. My mistake.
it doesn't since Imodane triggers when you cast an instant and sorcery that "targets only a single creature". Due to Into the Maw of Hell targeting both a creature and a land, it can't be eligible for Imodane's ability. Shivan meteor is a usable replacement if you're looking for that splashy thirteen damage.
@@granite_4576some people are new, like this is their first set since getting into the game. but fuck em right, they should know what to do with these new commanders that everyone is getting at the same time.
Syr Ginger is the gingerbread from the original Eldraine trailer, she hates planeswalkers because of Garruk.
Imodane’s damage triggers Chandra’s Incinerator since incinerator is for ‘Noncombat’ damage. That’s a sweet little synergy.
I haven't watched the video yet but jesus christ just the name sound like a splendid idea! great work man I love your work!
Like your takes. So honest.

Doubling season would still work with constellation triggers and stuff like Femeref enchantress or whatever it's called.

If you don't plan on attacking with her a lot, Neva also works in a flicker theme. Get these sacrificial enchantments back and reuse them over and over again.
Eriette actually works really well with Curses with her second ability.
Neva will be good with Enchantment creatures also - obviously
For Yenna my mind instantly went to Sagas. I know we got Tom Bombadil for your Saga commander and this can easily spot into that deck, but I still think there is value in a commander that essentially lets you use your sagas more than once.
If you cast Three Blind Mice and copy it with Yenna, you can have a bunch of copies eternally since their chapter 2+3 ability copies tokens ;)

duh. guess you can skip that part of the deck.
I like the ice queen, and that rakdos rats dude.
Goddric is definitely going in the 99 for my purphoros dragon sneak attack deck
For Talion and copies there's no drawback to choosing the same number more than once since they're separate triggers. So I'd go 2 and then 3 and then repeat 2 or 3 for each additional copy.
Finally a commander who makes Sad Robot good! /s

The new korvold would have been a really cool human tribal commander if he made your humans have the food ability. Busted, probably, but very cool

Looks like I might try my hand at a Myrkul-type abilities tribal with Brenard.
With gylwain I added a bit of a sub theme of creatures that get big for the number of creatures you control, those creatures usually don’t have trample and this is a go wide deck so those creatures get huge
Completely unrelated to the video, but how do you make decks not feel really similar and samey? I love the etb flicker strategy and a lot of my decks tend towards that and im trying to to make all of my decks exactly the same
try a reverse etb strategy, so like a saffi eriksdotter. or try a token creation theme like flameshadow conjuring which also works with etb.
Hey does anyone know the video demo did that had a few creatures that wanted to be blocked like tolarian enchanter and drolnoch? Making a deck around lure effects and wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything
here you go buddy, it's an oldie but a goodie. ruclips.net/video/PdULWaux_Rg/видео.html
Halsin is gonna be a bomb in the food deck once you have enough food.

im surprised i have yet to hear anyone mention curses with Eriette. All curses are aura so its just a win/win
but then you don't get the first ability
@edhdeckbuilding I don't understand what's meant by this. Even if you attach your Aura Curses to a creature you don't control, you still control the Aura, which both of Eriette's abilities care about.

Troyan looks good!
Some of the uncommons are decent for pauper commander. I'm building a faerie tribal Obyra and instant speed tap/freeze Sharae deck.
Imodane actually works pretty good in a Zevlor deck to allow you to kill 3 creatures and hit your opponents.
Does Into the Maw of Hell work with Imodane's ability?
it doesn't since Imodane triggers when you cast an instant and sorcery that "targets only a single creature". Parallax Wave + Neva = a really nice removal
obviously the best and only ways to build them ;)
You tap Morrowgnawer and sac the token Skitter makes... need I say more?
Imodane seems like a stuffy doll style deck. Maybe a future interesting idea deck?
Thank you for saying tribal and not typal.
Imodane is awesome in zevlor burn.
Nightmare tribal!
Wait was the ice queen not talked about???
In the other video. You tap stuff, what else is there to say 😂
@@granite_4576some people are new, like this is their first set since getting into the game. but fuck em right, they should know what to do with these new commanders that everyone is getting at the same time.
He mentioned it in another video. Goes over it a bit, and why he’s not huge on it. It can definitely be super powerful.
why no speak on Goose Mother?
If you really wanted to donate a planeswalker in a Syr Ginger deck, you could equip it with Luxior so Gauntlets of Chaos would work🤣
i kinda wish this video had chapters
Sad to not see Totentanz on here
no Kellan?
I think populate would be wonderful eith Yenna, Redtooth Regent. That way your not limited to only one copy
cards are growing ranks, song of the worldsoul, and root on defenses
sorry, populate is only creature tokens
@@edhdeckbuilding reading the card explains the card huh, sorry
no rowan?? sadge. i don’t know “the stuff everyone knows already.”
the new Korvold's art looks so weird and uncanny, it's like a 3D render that was slightly painted over 😬
White: Martial Impetus
Black: Parasitic Impetus.
Both goad
Deeemmooooo-
"gutsy explorer" hehe my childish mind can't not laught at that name.
The korvold lacks a ward 4 imo. Far too easy to fall flat on your nose with him
First? 😂
The art for this set looks so lazy and midjourney’ed
