I think Doubling Season + Gruff Triplets goes like this: Gruff Triplets enters, Doubling Season triggers creating 4 token copies instead of 2, you sacrifice 1 copy, dies trigger goes off and the other 3 gruff triplets get 6 +1/+1 counters, you sacrifice one with 6 counters on it and each other two gruff triplets gets 18 +1/+1 counters since the one with 6 counters on its power was 9. Then if you sacrifice one with 18 counters on it and the last two gruff triplets get 42 +1/+1 counters since the other's power was at 21 with those 18 counters on it. Then you sac the last remaining gruff triplets token with a power of 45 giving your original gruff triplets 90 +1/+1 counters.
It's even crazier than that. You have 5 gruff triplet. 1 sacrifice make your triplets 9/9, two makes them 27/27, three makes them 81/81 and 4 makes the last one 243/243.
@@benoitl.3606 I don't think your math is right you seem to be tripling and forgetting they don't enter with any counters on them and only 3 power. You get 4 token copies and 1 original, none of them enter with any counters on them. You sac one to give it three counters as that's their base power and Doubling Season makes double that so the remaining 4 get 6 counters. Then you sac another and the remaining 3 get 9 times 2 counters which is only 18 counters. Then sac another with a power at 18 counters plus the base 3 so 21 times 2 for 42 counters, then the last one you sac for 42 counters plus base power of 3 so 45 counters times 2 for 90 counters.
@@zuggy1231 It puts counters on each triplets, not one target. So the first sacrifice will put 3*2 = 6 counters on each triplet, making all 4 triplets 9/9. The second will put 9*2 = 18 counters on each triplets that already are 9/9, making all 3 triplets 27/27. The third sacrifice will put 27*2 = 54 counters on the 2 triplets 27/27 left, making them 81/81. And like that, the last triplet will be 3*81 = 243/243.

I would consider putting throne of Eldraine in a 2 color deck, because the color fixing doesn't matter nearly as much as the hard ramp and card draw in 2 colors. I would put it in almost all of my mono colored decks thought because it's a strictly better Guilded Lotus (which is already in most of those) AND it has card draw stapled on on top of that. Basically the only thing lotus can do that it can't is help cast other mana rocks, which the 5 drop mana rock doesn't really do most of the time.
@@Saltpounder513 I would still say 4 mana and drawing a card is MUCH stronger, but if you were in a deck with a bunch of activated abilities I would consider Lotus to be closer in power. I plan on running both in my mono colored decks, provided I end up with enough copies of Throne of Eldraine (probably drop something like Dreamstone Hedron for throne)
Other thing about the Werefox. The sac ability means if you use it offensively and someone plays a sweeper, you can sac it to force the creature to get swept instead of ETB when the sweeper resolves. Huge upgrade to the standard version of these cards.

One cool, generic use for Werefox Bodyguard is that it is is a "Fiend Hunter" with a built in sac outlet, so if you have 5 mana (with 3 White mana specifically) he is hard removal that also gives you an ETB and a LTB. For those who don't know: for these types of cards that Exile something until they leave the battlefield, if you get them off the battlefield while their ETB Exile trigger is still on the stack then whatever card that gets exiled when the ability resolves is just exiled forever.
Fiend hunter is worded differently, werefox will probably get rulings similar to alabaster host intercessor that would keep it from being exile removal
Throne of Eldraine. I have 5 Mana up and a 4 drop mono color spell in my hand and Throne of Eldraine. I get to cast both and then I have 9 mana available next turn
I think the reason why white keeps on getting card draw (which I agree shouldn't be getting more) is the fact that wizards make their sets years in advance before releasing. A couple years ago is when people were complaining that white sucks at the ramp and draws. Who knows how much longer white will be getting these card draw options, but I could see less options eventually.
I appreciate your effort to talk down throne of eldraine. We dont need other people to know how good it is. Busted for mono color. Bad elsewhere yes but still busted in mono color
Two cards that I think are bonkers that I don't believe you covered. 1) Lich-Knights' Conquest. Sacrificing tokens or artifacts (food, treasure, small 1/1s, etc.) to get back an equal number of creatures from your graveyard to the battlefield? Nuts for only 5 mana. 2) Farsight Ritual. Cheaper man's card tutor, but either way it's phenomenal for finding answers at times, especially if you bargain it. 8 card search, two to your hand, and no need to pitch to the graveyard if you don't have recursion. 4 mana miiiight be a bit steep for some, but I've seen people easily pay 4 mana to draw two cards, rather than this, which allows you to dig for 2 cards and choose.
I'd never recommend casting The Princess Takes Flight on your own commander, btw, because if someone removes the enchantment, your commander is just *gone*. But this also makes it a good option for removing someone else's commander. They have to *immediately* make the choice of whether to put it in the command zone or in exile, knowing that if you manage to get the saga off the field, it's gone forever. So even if you have nothing in hand to kill the saga, people will probably usually choose to send their commander into the command zone over taking the risk. It's kinda the opposite of an O-ring
it is better bc its a manna rock, it's not restricted to the one usecase, play it before your turn at instant speed for ramp, its sooo good bc you can keep manna open
In some scenarios I actually survived an attack and won the game afterwards because I had a food token from Gingerbread Cabin and my opponents did not see it
I "hate"to disagree about not playing throne of eldraine in a multicolour deck. I have two decks this card would fit into : Osgir, The Reconstructor - sacrifice or discard Throne of Eldraine, then make two token copies of it, one choosing red and one choosing white as they etb. Not having to use as many lands to cast monocoloured spells is a big upside IMO. Mishra, Eminent One - Make a token copy of Throne of Eldraine at the beginning of every one of your combats ,choosing the colour on etb for the sweetest monocoloured spell thats in your hand at the time. Again allowing the usage of lands for other things. I guess those two commanders are both in the "creating token copies of artifacts theme".
Id put throne of eldraine in my zirda the dawnwaker deck because the ability to draw for 3 mana will only cost one mana in that deck the ability to tap for four could also come in handy there but that draw is busted
I definitely think you are too hard on Throne of Eldraine... For mono colored decks it is busted - it ramps you from 5 to 9, which is insane in itself and it enters untapped so it basically only costs 1 mana... It is also a fine include in any 2 color deck where one of the colors is splashed (which is about half of them, I'd say). Its good enough that I'm thinking of putting it into my Aesi sea monsters that has no other rocks except sol ring. If that deck wasn't so heavy in green land ramp (maybe if I ever decide to change the commander), it would be an auto-include. It also opens up cards for those decks that normally people avoid - specifically, those with lots of color pips. I consciously do not play cards with more than 2 pips of a color in multicolored decks - this cards bypasses that difficulty.
But for ramp in monocolor decks - gauntlet of power is bettere in anyway (sure you can put both) the card draw added is nice. In 2 colors you have to keep tree of the same to keep drawing and it seeems too much (unless the second color is only splashed like you said) I am curious how will work in these scenarios.
fox bodyguard saving commander seems risky, someone hits it with a darksteel mutation or even kennys transformation then removes the elk, then stuck in exile
So hear me out. Asinine antics in brudiclad -> make tokens equal to the number of creatures your opponents control. Either overrun them as all their blockers are 1/1s now or turn those enchantments into beaters and you definitively have more creatures than your opponents at this point.
misleading signpost looks like such a trap card... do you hold it to send an attacker into deadly blocks? play it turn 3 to ramp? two fairytale possibilities for this card: ramp on turn 3 AND kill a utility creature trying to get some free poke... Or ruin a split attack late, that would have killed you and another player leaving the third to win. instead you shift the balance so you barely survive and win on the crackback... but MANY other options are better
Here's a great way to figure out if a mana rock is better than a 2/2. You would pay 2 mana for a mana rock that does nothing else. You would not pay 2 mana for a 2/2 vanilla, not even 1 mana for a vanilla 2/2 in commander.
You say Throne of Eldraine can't play colorless spells... Then there's me looking at Painter's Servant.😅 On a sidenote, an opponent playing their own painter's servant on a different color messes this idea up.😂
I don't understand your comments about white card draw. It's not like they're ever going to stop printing good card draw in blue or black just because those colors already have card draw, so why would they stop printing card draw in white? Card draw is in ever colors color identity now, they all just go about it in different ways.
If making food tap for mana instead of life is a bad thing, then Sheoldred turning card draw into life gain is a bad thing. "Cards are meant to be drawn! Adding additional effects that don't relate in the slightest just to improve the effect is wrong! And creatures being anything but stat sticks is a bad thing." Lol. You were basically saying, i don't like "mechanic" because i don't like it, and it isn't what i like. It just wasn't coherent. And to hate on food for being no longer "niche" is laughably odd.
I think Virtue of Courage may be an unwitting spell slinger/storm card. No risk of decking yourself like Archmage of Emeritus either. I think I agree with you on Night of Sweet's Revenge. It is more than just an autoinclude in food decks it skyrockets the deck far ahead of the table without making any kind of allusion to what food tokens actually do. Putting mana abilities on noncreature tokens is so much more insane because they don't have summoning sickness as a restriction. At worst it costs 3 because it makes a food. Looking at the art and name think thematically it would have made more sense to make your food tokens creatures. So a flavour fail too... pun intended. Maybe something like "whenever you sacrifice a food/ noncreature artifact token, put a vengeance counter on this card" paying itself off with "until end of turn food/noncreature artifact tokens become x/x creatures in addition to their other types where x is equal to the number of vengeance counters on this card." Still good in any food deck as a finisher but without the ridiculous ramp and thematic because the food is tired of being sacrificed... also a one-time effect on because it's supposed to be ONE night not one night and persistent mana acceleration.
What is the alternative, really, for Food? There is none. He said it himself, food is inherently bad. They have no built-in value like a Clue or Treasure. As such, there's nothing to DO with them BESIDES use them as costs for whatever other specific cards are doing. They are essentially that Scrap token that exists solely to be used by Farid, but is simply a whole package of cards instead of just 1.
43:01 Sure the card is good, but I don't think it is that good. Any utility creature, any overrun style deck, any evasive deck, any equipment deck, most tokens decks, +1/+1 counter decks straight up don't give a damn about the effect. Most enchantment decks might not care either depending on how much the other cards creating scrolls see play and that also is the crux that kills this card for good. Should it ever "over run the format" you just slot a few of those scroll generating cards in and now it goes from a few colours can't remove them to all can remove it. It is more specific than it reads and will draw you a ton of hate.Sure you made everything a 1/1 , but unless you have a follow up you painted a massive target on yourself and left the means to get hit on the board. It is a very mediocre, board wipe that needs a build around. Will it win you games? absolutely any one sided board wipe like effect will do that. Should it see play in any UX deck with better board wipe? No, it probably isn't top5 in blue
Throne of Eldraine goes infinite with Gilded Lotus and Mind Over Matter. A very niche combo for mono-blue decks that want to win through decking themselves out.
@@sofiar.r.9063 Thing is, this card will probably be like 8 dollars in a year, just because its white. Monologue tax is 5 dollars right now even though its garbage too.
i don't work for wotc. nor do i have any power over them. i'm not gatekeeping anything. this is merely my opinion. just like your giant long-ass statement is your opinion. everyone is entitled to one.
I was referring to the slang definition of gatekeeping. Not an actual medieval guard. The first definition on Urban dictionary is "Gatekeeping is to make your interests exclusive in order to protect them from becoming “mainstream”" My opinion is that you were gatekeeping the niche aspects of a food deck. Not liking wotc printing more support and making it mainstream. I think I used the correct word. What do you think would have been a better word? I still think your a cool dude. Just a little overprotective of niche commanders, archetypes, and mechanics.
@@edhdeckbuilding they've done it so many times. One small example is MDFC's being spells with lands on the back and then wotc changing them into being able to have spells on both sides. Food is now getting to sac for life or tap for mana when before it only involved life. Mana doesn't have anything to do with food. MDFCs used to only involve lands, but now they can be completely unrelated to lands.

Id put throne of eldraine in my zirda the dawnwaker deck because the ability to draw for 3 mana will only cost one mana in that deck the ability to tap for four could also come in handy there but that draw is busted
The cauldron goes so hard in my tazri deck.
Fooderhoof Behemoth right there in Night of Sweets' Revenge
fox bodyguard saving commander seems risky, someone hits it with a darksteel mutation or even kennys transformation then removes the elk, then stuck in exile
So hear me out. Asinine antics in brudiclad -> make tokens equal to the number of creatures your opponents control. Either overrun them as all their blockers are 1/1s now or turn those enchantments into beaters and you definitively have more creatures than your opponents at this point.
Princess takes flight - bargain is a thing in the set. Bargain it and the creature is stuck in exile.
Beseech is great for Prosper. Exile the card, then cast, plus you'll have treasure to sacrifice for Bargain
Just beware stifle effects if you wanna exile a card to save it with werewolf bodyguard (or cards like it).
They are rare but exist!
Werefox is okay i guess thanks to having flash. From a strict removal point grasp of fate is strictly better imo
but you can't use grasp of fate to save your commander.
Tegwyll's Scourge is Amazing ✨✨✨✨
Throne of eldraine is an auto include in a celestial dawn deck. It's jank but fun
misleading signpost looks like such a trap card... do you hold it to send an attacker into deadly blocks? play it turn 3 to ramp? two fairytale possibilities for this card: ramp on turn 3 AND kill a utility creature trying to get some free poke...
This set may be worth buying a box.
You say Throne of Eldraine can't play colorless spells... Then there's me looking at Painter's Servant.😅
On a sidenote, an opponent playing their own painter's servant on a different color messes this idea up.😂
Food I think got so much support out of nowhere due to LotR bringing a ton of new players so this is the hook part of the plan
Sacrificing food is great for my treebeard deck. 😅
I took that portal mage comment personally lol. Portal mage players unite
Hylda's Crown going into my Tameshi.
I play Portal Mage with Equilibrium xD
Mutate will be exploited here in a little bit when they revisit Ikoria, don't you worry.
Misleading sign post compared to portal mage isn't even close. A mana rock is 10x better. Especially in a control instant speed deck.
I don't understand your comments about white card draw. It's not like they're ever going to stop printing good card draw in blue or black just because those colors already have card draw, so why would they stop printing card draw in white? Card draw is in ever colors color identity now, they all just go about it in different ways.
so what does white not do well? what are you unable to do in a monowhite deck? i guarantee you have less restrictions than any other mono color.
Werefox bodyguard writes itself.
I think the final gruff triplet would be 243/243
If making food tap for mana instead of life is a bad thing, then Sheoldred turning card draw into life gain is a bad thing. And to hate on food for being no longer "niche" is laughably odd.
wow somebody really likes their food deck. not once did i say i don't like the food mechanic. maybe watch the video again.
Black has liek the second best board whipes behind white...damn, toxic deluge and meathook are all great.
second best. agree. but way way below it.
bivouac i put into my agrus kos deck so fast
Food already created green mana with jaheira from baldurs gate that’s why she’s $5 now
powercreep on the banishing light effect is real nice. cheaper, flash with a body wheweee
What is the alternative, really, for Food? There is none. He said it himself, food is inherently bad. They have no built-in value like a Clue or Treasure. As such, there's nothing to DO with them BESIDES use them as costs for whatever other specific cards are doing.
They are essentially that Scrap token that exists solely to be used by Farid, but is simply a whole package of cards instead of just 1.
so why keep printing cards for something that's bad? just abandon it and move on. like they do with any awful mechanic.
We have never had a faeries matter Commander so I’m really happy for Tegwyll ❤️
Throne of Eldraine goes infinite with Gilded Lotus and Mind Over Matter. A very niche combo for mono-blue decks that want to win through decking themselves out.
243 power last triplet.
Thanks for letting me skip the rant 😅
No way the red virtue is gonna be the most played, I feel like it will be one the least played.
More than a 10 second opener
Thumbs down
Dont reccomend channel
Extraordinary Journey is absurd.
But remember the line after me "white is the worst color"
Financier is genuinely an awful card. I cant believe anyone is hyping it up.
Well, its an uncommon one, so it could be a budget staple for some decks.
@@sofiar.r.9063 Thing is, this card will probably be like 8 dollars in a year, just because its white.
Monologue tax is 5 dollars right now even though its garbage too.
yeah i wasn't sure how much talk it was getting but it's not even good enough to go in my bennie bracks deck where it actually fits.
Stop gatekeeping
i don't work for wotc. nor do i have any power over them. i'm not gatekeeping anything. this is merely my opinion. just like your giant long-ass statement is your opinion. everyone is entitled to one.
maybe look up the definition of gatekeeping
I was referring to the slang definition of gatekeeping. Not an actual medieval guard. The first definition on Urban dictionary is "Gatekeeping is to make your interests exclusive in order to protect them from becoming “mainstream”"
My opinion is that you were gatekeeping the niche aspects of a food deck. Not liking wotc printing more support and making it mainstream. I think I used the correct word. What do you think would have been a better word?
I still think your a cool dude. Just a little overprotective of niche commanders, archetypes, and mechanics.
@@josephpayton7522 name me another mechanic in the history of magic where they have done this.
I am really sick of that black washing bullshit.
