I don't have time to watch full spoiler videos covering every card so I watch some highlights from Seth, but I Always look forward to your sleeper videos the most, during *every* spoiler season! I think the fun and creativity you share in taking a thorough look at a whole set, highlighting potential strength in underlooked cards, and relating it to current metas is something I can't find from any other channel! It gives me a newfound appreciation to more of the cards being released, rather than just fixating on the "inarguable best 5 of 300" and disregarding the rest. tldr; I love watching your videos on "cards that might suck, but also might be underdog hits maybe, just think about it??" Likeness Looter is kinda scary to me in an updated version of the mono-blue Djinn deck. Splash into black and Likeness Looter can be a backup Djinn, and you can swap in Rona's Vortex instead of Fading Hope. Also, it's a Faerie and Faerie Mastermind is a Faerie, so you can run the new Quench+ that synergizes with faeries. I agree 100% on Lich-King's Conquest. That's a stupid effect for EDH, with treasure tokens and it's basically like a super-Victimize for the midgame/endgame.
I had been very seriously thinking of Apprentice's Folly as a curve topper for my UR Temp/Ninjutsu deck cause i run 4xAether Channeler for ETB, 3x Moon-Circuit Hacker for card advantage and even just copying a (4x)Prosperous Thief sounds kinda nice. Talking of which thanks to Prosperous Thief sometimes it could come down on turn 3 and hit for 6 and get 2 treasures back to hold out countermagic. My biggest concern is that it might just be bad against removal-heavy decks cause not only does it do nothing on an empty board but also it targets, which gives the opponent a chance to blow you out even when you have a good board. Then after that there's just kind of a lack of ways to get rid of it without playing awkward cards or diminishing the strength of the copies (such as using aether channeler's etb to return it) and if you bounce it, the amount of possible targets drastically diminishes.
8:12 I can easily see Acolyte slotting into into the Selesnya tokens + counters build I've been running as my core off ladder alt deck since MOM season. It's no Pollen-Shield Hare or Virtue of Loyalty, but has a potential place in the deck. 11:26 Back for Seconds bargained using your Ichor Drinker to bring back any good 3 or 4 drop seems solid in budget mono-black. Toss Not Dead After All on the Drinker first and now it's 4 mana for a Sheoldred, Archfiend, Obliterator, etc coming back _and_ a 2/2 lifelinker that does 1 to the opponent on removal. 17:17 I like the idea of Conquest, and expect it'll be quite solid in Golgari and Rakdos Limited, but I'm not sure how well it can be enabled in Standard over all yet. I can see reanimator from zombie tokens using Ghoulcaller's Harvest, Ghoulish Procession, or Tainted Adversary or perhaps some flavor of Phyrexian mite or incubator reanimator I haven't considered the cards for before now, but not sure if it's good enough to see regular ladder play.
I really like the rage card +2/+0 for one mana is standard but then add the monster role on the same creature +1/+1 and trample it goes straight in a aggro deck of any type
I think my favorite sleeper in the set (if we can count it as a sleeper) is Virtue of Persistence. Most of the reactions I've seen to it is "7 mana lol," but we're in a grindy standard & I think we might have a controlly black/x deck that will want it.
Im pretty sure virtue of persistence is the strongest card in this set lol atleast in the top 3 fits right into the dimir deck wich is dominating right now
The trick with apprentice's folly of course will be to copy a create with the second counter that will destroy folly on ETB, or play another card on that turn that will blow it up.
14:40 I mostly play limited and I love blue/white control whenever I can make it happen, so Threadbind Clique looks pretty good to me too. having a 3/3 flyer can really make the difference for you in a drawn out game
It looks like Sultai "all creatures self mill" deck might be a thing in standard. You got Goyf and Somnophage to grow on that, you got specter of mortality and faunsbane for removals. Looter to redo any of your creatures if needed. And on top of that back for seconds to bring them back from graveyard if needed. Add tyvar to it and it might be a decent deck :)
cards with adventure don't need much to impress me because adventure is a broken mechanic every card with adventure essentially functions as two cards it's just so much value.
Hey I’m here from two years later! I came to see how the fairies looked in this set. The fairies we have now all come with the keyword ability rivers rebuke that’s been dominating standard.
Very much an edge case, but if Faunsbane gets Cursed, it'll sacrifice the role before the fight occurs, so might catch up opponents in limited depending on how heavy roles are.
I 100% agree about The Apprentice's Folly, the upside is insane and if you load up on bargain cards you can sacrifice this before you have to sac the copies. It's like phantasmal image at home but twice, that also procs bonus effects on your other cards. I'm probably not running more than 2, but I think this is a must answer threat more often than not, and even if your opponent removes it before you get the second token down, guess what? Your chapter 1 token now stays around indefinitely. The failcase is still a pretty good card that aggro decks would want

The way I'm thinking is having an ingenious prodigy down for 0/1 as early as possible, and when I can attack with it unblocked because of skulk I'll pump it up for a bunch of unblocked damage.
Threadbind clique and spellscorn coven are super cool I agree, but the issue is that they're at 'limited rates'. If both modes for both cards cost 1 less, then at least spellscorn I imagine would would see play in several different places/formats, but at current they're just way too overcosted even accounting for them being adventures. This is an issue with not just a lot of cards in the set, but just constructed magic in general and it saddens me. Limtied exists, so common/uncommon and arugalby even rare card need to carefully balanced accordingly, and a lot of the time that means really cool cards just wont make it in standard. Overall though great video, I love watching you doing your thing. And the picks for Monstrous rage, looter, lich knight and folly are great picks as I agree they are huge sleepers with so many people ignoring/have ignored those cards.
threadbind clique is balanced. That makes it ok but also copeting with memory deluge at the 4 cmc mode. Brazen Borrower also had Flash on the creature mode so this is way slower.
Excellent couch card pull. I feel like Lich-Knight's Conquest is one of those black cards that should have had multiple pips of black mana in it or a higher mana cost. I fully expect to see it abused to no end in disgusting color piles.
Gadwick First Duel, because remove sheoldred, scry into burn and copy Lightning Strike is a thing. Also, you can bounce Apprentice's Folly on chapter 2 to keep your stuff.
Threadbind Clique, ain't bad but it's still kind of expensive for what both sides do compared to other options. The fact it's two cards in one makes it a bit better to include in a deck though.
Looter with Croxa is really good. Lich-Knight's Conquest is good also because... it does not TARGET creatures in graveyard, do i.e. grafdigger's cage or dennick do not stop it.

Back For Seconds is a really exciting card. I love Blood For Bones, and this is a discounted but more limited version of that, which is banaenae.
