A lot would have depended on the radar the Germans used. the Seekat system was problematic and when it worked properly it would have given the Scharnhorst enough time to alert on the presence of another warship. If it wasn't working and the seas were less than ideal then there is a chance the Washington (with much better radar and radar guided fire control) might have gotten a couple of shots in which might have damaged the ship like what happened against Duke of York. Toe to toe would have been fatal for the Scharnhorst.
Andrew G. Whitaker: The part of this game that I didn’t like is the fact that the Scharnhorst main armor belt is 18”. That’s bigger than the main belt of The Bismarck. I looked it up and it did not have a main armor that big.
It’s the range the ship is at The belt can only take it at mid the long range . The German ship can take hits at mid the to shorter ranges . It’s a design choice the country’s make back in the day
Amazing that in real life at the Battle of the North Cape, the Scharnhorst took an amazing amount of punishment from the HMS Duke of York and several British cruisers, but it still took a slew of torpedoes to sink it. Of course, one of the early hits knocked out Scharnhorst's fire control so the gun crews had to more or less act on their own and it proved to be not enough to counter the British ships.
@ProBros Yost Ahhh yes Bismarck too. Took immense punishment from Rodney and KGV. But experts says only KGV's 14 inch shells managed to penetrate Bismarck's armor.
Totally unrealistic the first salvos with three heads from the Washington 16-inch guns would have done tremendous even against another full-fledged battleship in reality battleships themselves cannot take more than three or four rounds direct Hit from another before some serious damage starts to not saying they'd be out of the fight but real serious damage starts when either 1800 lb shells or the IEP 2,700 lb shells get your ship the second time and shine horse would have been sinking

Sorry, but Scharnhorst was NOT a battleship. She was a heavy cruiser. She had 8 inch guns and was NO match for any battleship.
