We hear the 2nd Fleet’s theme once again but this time, rather than being triumphant and demanding attention, it is solemn, and sad. Hinting that this battle will be a costly one, and many will not survive. The shots of all the ships is amazing as well! 6:05 great way of showing the kingship for the first time. “What are they waiting for?” … “that…” as a massive ship exits the gas cloud. Incredible. 8:24 the massive amount of fighters flying straight for the fleet, Bishop yelling “FIRE!” As the entire fleet erupts in cannon fire as we once again hear the 2nd fleet’s theme, but this time in a battle-like tone. Amazing! 9:57 the strategy and depth of the dialogue is really good! Cool to see the makeup of the fleet as well. 17:33 amazing way of introducing Squadron 42. And the music is INCREDIBLE 20:28 the subtle strategy here is great. Bishop, the previous time they were hit, ordered shields to drop an extra 30%. This leads the kingship to become cocky, focusing on taking out the Krugeri. Bishop raises shields again last second and, with the energy presumably being used up on the kingship, the ship is weakened, allowing Squadron 42 to deal massive damage. The relief in the crew’s voice is amazing, and the shot of 42 launching the rockets with amazing music playing in the background is epic. Great writing and directing. 24:12 lastly, the fact that NO ONE on the bridge left when Bishop said that non essential personnel could leave was great. Showed how good of a leader Bishop was, that they all wanted to stay and fight to the end. I don’t care what people say about the length of development, if this level of cinematic masterpiece is carried out through the whole game, it’s worth waiting till 2026.
Watching this on silent actually reveals it's rather dull. It relies way too heavy on tropes and ambience to pump you into the moment. Because actual films provide a good starting point for how it can be done and done where it respects the intellegence of the viewers/player. The old Battle Star: Galactica pilot move from 50 years ago is a perfect case in which even in silence, theres more setup, payoff, narration and nothing is too boring. The context is built up and believed by the viewer. The military forces, despite being on a peace cruise, still has Scouts hunting for information, and the enemy doesn't even reveal their base ships (which is spoken of in the dialogue) because actual military maneuvering and strategy was employed- namely remote refueling by the Cylons so that they could launch a strike for an ambush, while the base stars are positioned elsewhere. The show, even in near silence, shows the severity of the battle as well as the scale of the war itself - the strategy of the Cylon attack is actually a multisystem invasion with devastating effect and it allows the suspension of disbelief to remain intact considering the context of what narrative explores.

Remember back in games like Freespace where there was a huge battle and you just played through it rather than being dragged out to watch an elongated cut scene then dumped back for another 4-5 minutes of grudging game play, that was nice I liked that.
That happens here, but not in the prologue -- that is part of the end sequence when you join Squadron 42 and there is an all-out epic space battle that involves combined arms both in space and on ground, involving ships, vehicles and a mech assault that you get to play through.
@Billy-bc8pk Okay, but how does that work, is it one continous gameplay sequence where you as a single character do all those things, or is it like here where you watch a bit of cut scene, play as one thing for a bit and then have another cut scene before switching perspective, becuase that broken up style of gameplay gets really old really fast
@@maddlarkin Depends -- in Star Citizen it's all continuous with seamless gameplay from one vehicle or planetary surface to the next. So obviously there is a transition there. No idea how many other transitions there are between those segments, though. One of the missions they showed off where you could either storm in or stealth into a facility with the ship was seamless from planetary entry all the way to the base infiltration and rescuing a captured teammate, with the only cinematic being when you freed her.
@Billy-bc8pk This sequence looks very much like a game director who'd much rather be making a movie, it seems to indicate long cut scenes moving transitioning to short gameplay sections, this may just be this intro section, but it doesn't bode well for the rest of the game as it looks very much like the players hand will get slapped away from the controls so they can't interfear with something cool happening. Freespace is a good comparison, in that game you had an intro cutscene then it's all I game till the end, even the men's are set out to be the ships hangers, when in the first game your home ship is killed it's not in a cut scene, you see it from the cockpit of the fighter in mission. This start stop game play can really take the player out of the experience, especially with how long these cut scenes are, just as your getting immersed your yanked into a cut scene and made to sit there and watch for 5 minutes.
@@maddlarkinthey didn’t showcase it here, but they developed the cutscenes so that you can just back out and have them play from your character’s perspective while you do your own thing. Think of the cutscenes more like dynamic events and dialogues that you can back out of, with npc reactions depending on context.

This reminds me of the first time I saw Crysis back in 2004, and when it finally comes out it'll probably remind me of the first time I played Crysis in 2007... I'd get about 5-10 minutes of gameplay between crashes with my graphics card coughing and melting... but even then I knew I was playing the most incredible military sci-fi story I'd ever seen. 15 years later when I could finally play Crysis as the devs intended it blew me away.
I'm just wondering... How come that a game can carry more cinematic excitement and suspense than the 99% of Hollywood movies for the last 10-15 years combined?
your making some good work here. it looks like it has some inspiration from a mix of things. a bit of starship troopers maybe? but more like Wing Commander. and The Last Jedi. Two enemies... a master and apprentice. that kingship with elements of farscape, but also the large double plasma weapon that the dreadnought had. It's very nice seeing how the characters interact. The characters are always the true value of nearly every movie ever and these are very good characters, I like them :)

The one that is still trying. How well did all the others released in the last decade live up to our hopes and dreams? You know, the ones that kept forcing you to pay for expanded content. And still letting us all down.

So is the game out yet? Can I actually go and buy this and play it? Or is this just another shiny thing that won’t actually be available for years and years and years (if ever) from now?
You can pay like 40-50$ and buy Star Citizen with a starter ship, which is open world online part, whereas this is a linear campaign that takes place in the same system and planets as Star Citizen. Of course, Star Citizen itself is extremely buggy and requires decently high system requirements and probably a flight stick. But it's fun when there's no server errors.

Space is not a flat plane to consider a one direction of attack. It can be in any direction, even backside or underbelly.humabs always fight dirty to make finalization
I read about this, problem is that controlling such a large fleet, you need to be in unison. If they are all around the place tilted all around, the orders can confuse and create more chaos and collisions. Although you are right, you could definitely attack from underbelly, but you don't want your ships to be seen, so something has to be there to cover, like with Squadron 42 and the asteroid field.
@@bapkurisu6404 You should check out the 50 vs 50 space fleet battles between orgs that people conduct in Star Citizen; they play out very similarly to the video above. I read a lot of hard sci-fi and realistic space combat would bear little resemblance to what is portrayed here. With that said, realistic space combat would be BORING and not very entertaining visually.
I really liked this fight. Sure it was a bit cliché and admiral bishop (cool character IMO) made sure to read the „sci fi admiral tactic 101” and not tell anybody about the plan, the visuals were amazing, the gameplay was solid for a tutorial level, and the writing was okay by me. The only problem I had was that the finale of the battle was presented as we were loosing, even tho the enemy flagship was blowing up and they ran with their macguffin command staff, but it’s okay
I would guess all of the other captains knew about the plan well before hand, but that gunners or crew members weren't informed of the small details, just the job they need to perform.
Ahhh, Just the usual complaint..... WHYARE THEY NAKED in space combat? Where are their survival/vacuum suits?? Why do the animation actors care about getting their hair mussed or their face time on camera??
It was a subtle detail in the "thrown out into vacuum" sequence. Your character initially suffocates as expected, but after a few seconds a "sealing" pop-up appears on your hud after which you are able to breathe again. I guess it's meant to be a deployable undersuit for the sake of easier removal and movement when not in vacuum? I wish they'd make it a bit more obvious it happens
@@jacuj I forgot and never noticed that part. I guess we have inflatable bike helmets that work similar to air bags so something like that for space probably isn't too unbelievable
There are two games in this universe. The one you see here is Squadron 42. A single player story. Announced to release in 2026. The other is a sandbox MMO called Star Citizen. Currently playable in very early access. It releases when its ready. I have been playing it since 2015 ish. Having a great time with many many friends. if you are interested in researching more, its huge rabbit hole to go down. But is way worth it if you like a world like this. There is a free fly event starting in about 36 hours that will let you play in the MMO for free. And fly any of the ships that are currently in game. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Cause it gets confusing. The project is huge, with a lot of details.

Takes away the cinematic glory of the cutscenes camera angles of course, but they wanted to make sure players weren’t forced to just sit and watch. Think of the cutscenes more like dynamic events and dialogues that you can back out of, with npc reactions depending on context.
the fact that they have so many S-Tier actors, such as Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Gary Oldman, John Rhys-Davies, and Liam Cunningham, makes me want to play it
Yeah Hamill and Rhys Davis appeared in Wing Commander so a good nod to a sadly dead EA franchise
If only there was S-Tier gameplay
I thought i Saw Mark strong in the bridge along with gary oldman
This got me so excited for the Game and I hope that Star Citizen also Improves after they Released SQ42. The best thing about this is, that we get to see Ships we already flew, that are used in this cinematics like real Combat ships in Large Battles. We all saw them Ingame fighting against Pirates but now we see them Fighting in War. I have high hopes for this Game
By the time this game is done it wont be science fiction it will be a documentary. We might actually colonize other worlds before we play the game.
Have to say the graphics representation of some of the stars is excellent.
Mate this looks amazing
Thank you so much for the awesome video
9:55 I LOVE TACTICS
Edit: These Aliens are very expressive with their hands and their language is actually fear inducing
Seeing that Hammerhead dwarfed by the capital ship is crazy. 3:38
If Chris Roberts wanted to make a movie, be probably should've.
Also soundtrack at the end reminds me of the newer star trek movies ones
The Human ships and weapons look amazing ...
This needs to be made into a movie………….somehow. “Origins of Zion”.
I'm just curious, but how would these xenos do against the Imperium of Man?
theyd get wrecked by nova cannons and Space Marine boarding parties
space marines designed for enemies greater than this scale. it will be a walk in the park, since they're basically "a walking death"
It be a reverse horror western isekai
never ask that, no franchise besides like, Xelee could survive against 40k i guess.
@@scott-gaming.8834 someone had to ask,it was inevitable.
Sou do Brazil onde tudo é difícil. Mas adorei 😊esse Filme. Continuem a filmar , excelente.
Those enemy fighters really reminds me of the Batwing and the Volture droids of the the Clone Wars.
It's throwback to the wing commander dralthi / vaktoth from wing commamder 3, Roberts other series (property of EA)
I hope I will live long enough to see that dream come true
Well, this looks like fun. I'll be watching for it
Maybe set a reminder for like 2 years time. :D
I'm wondering if we'll get to see the Retribution during the SQ42 campaign.
We should. We should also get a single mission as the bridge commander so I can see if there is enough guns
your making some good work here. it looks like it has some inspiration from a mix of things. a bit of starship troopers maybe? but more like Wing Commander. and The Last Jedi. Two enemies... a master and apprentice. that kingship with elements of farscape, but also the large double plasma weapon that the dreadnought had. It's very nice seeing how the characters interact.
The characters are always the true value of nearly every movie ever and these are very good characters, I like them :)
i mean Wing commander is from Chris Roberts as wel he is CEO of CiG Devs of SQ42 and Star Citizen
They really nailed Gary oldman and mark strong :-)
looks amazing
Cant wait to have proper multicrewed ships.
I loves manning the guns on my buddies Solomon Class in Space Engineers
That was pretty good.
Any of you see the c rams?
Esto tiene potencial aprendi bastante al ver esta cinemática ojala cumplan la expectativa
This has potential, I learned a lot from watching this cinematic, I hope they live up to expectations.
Can't wait to fight the Vanduul in Nyx with my Polaris and see how she stacks up upon them.
Not bad for a work in progress. The narrative is compelling but there are a lot of details overlooked still which completely break immersion for me. Looking forward to a finished product in 3026.
what details?
Imagine how much better this game would’ve been & how much further along it would’ve been if they didn’t waste so much money getting A list celebrities to fill out the cast smh
The game that could have been.
The one that is still trying.
How well did all the others released in the last decade live up to our hopes and dreams?
You know, the ones that kept forcing you to pay for expanded content. And still letting us all down.
One minute in. Expecting nothing bad is going to happen. Confident diplomacy can avoid escalation.
"So that 40 years from now....when this game is finally released...and everyone looking forward to it is dead..."
i can't wait for my next of kin to be able to play.
this is the abslute stunning
Why can’t nobody make movies like this? I would watch all of them
We have been requesting the company puts together a cinematic team and give us a series to watch.
I would even pay per view it.
waiter waiter more bagpipes in my space music please
apparently this theme is used with other instruments at different times as well, looking forward to hearing that
Reminds me a lot of Mass Effect and the Abrams Star Trek movies. 😊👍
I say this is space force now and we got to stand our ground and our space no matter what's the cost the adversary must not inter earth by our lives we will stand our ground.
Wait a second, is that Special Agent Skully?
Its long past time someone makes a military science fiction film or show ala the Expanse or BSG
With Gary Oldman running the show, you have a chance.
Roberts, promising Yet Another Big Release. Let's see what happens to delay this one.
Beautiful
What happened to the 1st fleet? What happened to the 1st fleet Joe?
"We will hold the line!" - Captain Kirrahe (Mass Effect)
So is the game out yet? Can I actually go and buy this and play it? Or is this just another shiny thing that won’t actually be available for years and years and years (if ever) from now?
You can pay like 40-50$ and buy Star Citizen with a starter ship, which is open world online part, whereas this is a linear campaign that takes place in the same system and planets as Star Citizen.
Of course, Star Citizen itself is extremely buggy and requires decently high system requirements and probably a flight stick. But it's fun when there's no server errors.
@@santhoshsridhar5887 so….. no, the answer is no, I can’t go and buy this game. Just a starter pack for some buggy MMO? I’ll check back in the 2030s to see if an ACTUAL game has been released by then
@@corvus2512 this game is set to release in 2026, the MMO is unknown. SC isn't THAT buggy, but definitely wait on the MMO until the single player comes out
is that Gary Oldman ?
yes, admiral Bishop is played by Gary Oldman
@@IrishInsanity1 nice
Captain Titus is also here... Mark strong Spacemarine 1
Sir! That's Mr Churchill, the bulldog himself.
Trailer also showed mark hamill as a fighter pilot
Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, Gillian Anderson,
Liam Cunningham?
Is that Willem Dafoe?
Ok, casting and VA's aside, this looks graphically and visually impressive. I do like the look of those aliens.
That command bridge though...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this originate in another game?
Ok after like 12 years of playing ED i can finally switch 😢 I guess I'll also take bad all the insults I thrown at space citizen dudes this looks badass
gary oldman, mark strong, henry cavill, gillian anderson, mark hamill to name but a few this game has a stelar cast list
They could make it a tv series if it doesn’t take off as a game. I’d watch it.
Any ''Colony Convoy'' ... over requesting line up!?
Space is not a flat plane to consider a one direction of attack. It can be in any direction, even backside or underbelly.humabs always fight dirty to make finalization
I read about this, problem is that controlling such a large fleet, you need to be in unison. If they are all around the place tilted all around, the orders can confuse and create more chaos and collisions. Although you are right, you could definitely attack from underbelly, but you don't want your ships to be seen, so something has to be there to cover, like with Squadron 42 and the asteroid field.
@@danilantos881 yup. Stealth will be a good role for the element of suprise.
@@bapkurisu6404 You should check out the 50 vs 50 space fleet battles between orgs that people conduct in Star Citizen; they play out very similarly to the video above. While the game does support 6DOF, as danilantos pointed out, it's very difficult to coordinate when everyone is all over the place.
Dog this looks so fucking god
Literally a drag mechanic in the game and her woukd is in the guts. By this universe and easily survivable wound and that’s without having replication insurance.
remember this game is set in the past from Star Citizen
Nice to see Gary Oldman getting work 😂
11:43 AYO JOHNNY SINS IS THAT YOU!?!?! 🤯
...oh wait maybe he looks more like Merlin from Kingsmen
lol yeah its the same actor as Merlin.
Mark Strong.
one of my favorite sci fi movies, oh its a game?! well shoot i'll just watch it on twitch
It’s a crime that this didn’t start with the bag pipes
This reminds me of ‘Deserts of Kharak’ except in space
Looks awesome.
I never understood why everything materialises on the same side of the Planet that we are currently on.
If I was the bad guys, I would materialise on the opposite side of the Planet.
Just saying.
Because you do not jump through objects if you want to stay alive :)
They had a recon team and knew from where they were coming and where they were heading too
I read a lot of hard sci-fi and realistic space combat would bear little resemblance to what is portrayed here.
How did they get to use those top actors in this game? Is it Ps5 i eant to play.
facial spotlight is pretty intense but it looks good
Ahhh, Just the usual complaint..... WHYARE THEY NAKED in space combat? Where are their survival/vacuum suits?? Why do the animation actors care about getting their hair mussed or their face time on camera??
They really should be wearing suits with emergency oxygen.
@@IrishInsanity1 @jacuj theres a glass mandible that slides into position at one point in the demo, i forget when
Can someone please enlighten me as to what the name of this game this is?
I want to fight this enemy, my Empire needs me!
Quite a number of celebrity mo-caps, at least we now know where a chunk of its hundred million dollars funding went.
Already doing this, with Fleet Commander, commanding 75 ships doing incursion, called a fucking EVE ONLINE.
Encounter shows the weakness of two dimensional thinking.
What game is this?
Does anyone know the name of the song from 3:20-4:00?
The guy in charge looks like Gary Oldman
He is lol
Is that Gillian Anderson from x files and the guy who played commissioner Gordon in the dark knight
I was not expecting mark hamill to be in this
These exposed bridges and crew in fatigues, not hard suits is a real bummer…
Yeah. It looks cool but is so stupid. And the ship designs...
@@IrradiatedFeline they’re designed according to “rule of cool”. The windows are in lore not made of glass, but of transparent material of equal toughness to the rest of the Armour. Isn’t realistic, but that isn’t the point of this game. It’s a space opera designed to be cool “World War 2 but in space smth smth”, a bit like Star Wars and such
Even the gundam series had more realistic protocols than this: it was mandatory for crew to be in space suits whenever they are waging a space battle .. it should be common sense.
