I’m a Black Brother from the hood and I can’t take this song off REPEAT!!! NO such thing as Black or White Music!! This is just Pure Damn GREAT Music❤❤🔥🔥🔥Well DONE MRS Reba!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🏆🏆🏆🏆❤❤❤🗣🗣🗣❤❤❤❤❤👠
❤
Facts😭💯
I'm a man from Detroit. There is no black or white. Just wrong and right. After 10 years as a combat medic l learned to trust the man on my flank regardless of color. To all you bigots out there. Fuck you.
The original song had been sung by Vicki Lawrence in 1973, I believe. You should check that out now!

This is the original.
"Don't trust your soul to no back woods southern lawyer..." o don't worry, Reba, we believed you then, and we definitely believe you and those words in 2023 😬
Don't trust your soul to almost ANY lawyer!!!🙄
Alec Murdaugh comes to mind
The twist in the end of this song is just awesome. "Little sister don't miss when she aims her gun." Even though this song wasn't originally Reba's, hers is the best version in my opinion.
She made it hers with this video. You don't hear the lights went out in Georgia, and not think of Reba
@@user-jf7ts1np5jAgreed. This song was meant for Reba.
Who wants this song to be turned into a movie?
YES!!
Terry Broome It was
It shares the same name, but I'm talking about a film based directly on the lyrics. The story the song tells.
I can write a screenplay for it. I minor in screenwriting in college.
Cool.
To be clear, 90's country music was PEAK 👌The song were great and the videos were actually entertaining to watch.
Agreed
This is a cover of a 70s song though. So is Fancy.
Regardless 70s or 90s.. we love us some Reba and all old country music ✨️
Yup hits like a 12 gauge shotty
That's when the south was still the south. Now everyone is caught up on the same page and the south moves just as fast as the north
Today I bought her book. Never imagined that book I choose was about herself. I love her voice her music I love that song
Hello how are you doing today 😮
@@Rebaqueen.privateI know you love them I would too look at the wonderful life you have had due to the fans man what a blessing but it’s all because who you are Reba I’m only 37 and I remember me and my momma singing in her car to all of your songs which I still no every word to this day we love you too!! You are the sweetest prettiest red headed Southern bell that the south or the world has ever been blessed with!! We love you too!!! I was just watching all your old music man I miss the 90’s man I miss it.!!
Reba doesn't just sing, she tells a story. This song is absolutely my favorite song from Reba. Reba is a legend
+SuperLovebug8 ''Fancy'' by her is my favorite "_")
+SuperLovebug8 She got that song from Vickie Lawrence.....
+B Taylor Thank you...I was wondering about this song and the singer. I love Vickie Lawrence.
+SuperLovebug8 Totally agree. :) One -in-a- million ,that one.
God & Goddess allowed us an angel when they sent her down. We are allowed to borrow one for a time. Her name is Reba.
yes she is mine too she makes me feel like she related to me
Reba is one of those rare gems in music. She was able to tell you a complete engrossing story in a 5 to 6 min song. There ain't to many of those out there.
Rare breed. You're right about that.
Well it's not her song. This was #1 back in 1973.
SWLinPHX you may be right, but most people will associate it with Reba, seeing is that she made it almost like a mini movie.
Spooked Kitty idk i kinda always thought of vicki lawrence
Spooked Kitty Actually, when a song is #1 and you are alive to hear it first, it makes a much bigger impression on you. Hearing a cover or remake 20 years later is not the same. If someone else came out with a cover of "Macarena" or "Gangnam Style" or "Blurred Lines" in a couple years would you think of the new version more or the one you first heard?
Pure southern Gothic. The video does a great job of laying out the twisted story for the reporter and therefore the audience. Its like Faulkner wrote a country song! Reba!
Omg, you’re right! Def like a Faulkner story. 😮
One of the fastest stories ever told. So many twists and turns. I loved it in the 90’s. Still loving it in 2023. Reba is a true legend & story teller ♥️
His cheating wife never left town but that's one body that will never found you see little sister don't miss when she aims her gun. Gangsta!!!!!!!!
Delores Blakley
ME PERFECTLY
Who's ever in new England
Not a gangsta she is an kickass outlaw like jesse James
Vicki Lawrence and Reba McEntire- the original gangsta gangstas ;-)
This morning I remembered that Reba had a song called "Does He Love You" which had a music video climaxing with her blowing up the boat her cheating lover and his mistress were on. It turned out to be a video within the video because that's the only way they could get away with it, but dang!
This song was originally done by Vicki Lawrence (from Carol Burnett),(released in 1973).It was written by her then husband Bobby Russel
Wow…Vicki has probably has gotten a helluvva lot of royalties out of this song…
similar to how Dolly Parton wrote one of Whitney Houston’s best songs “I Will Always Love You” and I believe that Dolly made a fortune from Whitney singing it…
Thank You for Pointing that Trivia Fact, and the Fantastic Woman who Originally released it Back so Long ago. Pure Genius by Miss Vickie's Husband. TKS.
Hey now!! Been listening to Reba since before RUclips existed. Still do How bout y'all?
Hello there Ms Kitty nice meeting you here
“Don’t trust your soul to no backwoods southern lawyer”
That face Reba makes at the very end of the video: pause it at 4:10...look at that face for five seconds. That face is one of anger, rage and no guilt whatsoever. In a word: CHILLING.
Saw that. I wondered how long she was able to hold it. Kept waiting for her to crack. haha.
why would she have guilt her loser fiancee and her brother's cheating wife where in bed together she did the world a favor, and adultery should be a capital crime because if u can't be true to your spouse what kinda kids are u going to raise and what good contribution are u making in the world as we look at the stay's and 70% of inmates come from broken homes if we solve these issue where they start then we lower crime preserve culture and solve many problems in our society
I think what he meant by 'guilt' is the fact that her brother took the blame for the murders and subsequently ended up at the end of a hangman's noose.
Matt Bushey - Because that means even less people would be willing to marry (the rate of people getting married is lower than ever) and you'll be putting a lot of innocent people in jail. You really want to put someone in jail for cheating with people in jail for murder, rape, drugs, etc.? That's insane.
Fraya1022 -What's insane is that u think they should go unpunished and are innocent??? there no better then a rapist and are a key problem in our world, because they have the same sociopathic mentality and do not have a touch with reality or right and wrong. Now for the marriage part if u have a kid out of wedlock u should have to become married to the father or the state takes ur chilled and both the guy and girl loose their reproductive rights, and that's because the child will be better off in a nuclear family as opposed to a broken one, and once u have a child nothing in life is about u anymore but if it is your not a very good mom or dad maybe not even a value to the world at all and the child will most likely grow up to be another problem for society if they stay in your care.
I want this story to become a full-length film, or a TV show
I've said the same thing myself.
it is a movie
@@moxieous you wouldn't by any chance know the name would you?
SerfinBird im pretty sure it’s just called the night the lights went out in georgia but it’s only loosely based on the song
Pretty lazy are we? Or are you a promoter in sheeps clothing?
In 1981, country singer Tanya Tucker recorded a version (on an album of the same name) with differing lyrics and an altered timeline. These altered lyrics were based on the plot line of the 1981 film The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.
One of the greatest country ballads of all time, sung by one of the greatest country singers of all time. God bless you Reba McEntire and thank you!

Yeah she's a good singer ,Vicky Lawrence is a good song writer
Yeah she's a good singer ,Vicky Lawrence is a good song writer
@@KayWilliams-ck4usVicki Lawrence didn’t write it. Her husband did. She did record it though. Reba’s is a cover. Good. But Vicki did it better, imo.
"You see little sister don't miss when she aims her gun" Yup got that right. We don't play with guns we use them when there is a need.
I'm a black woman..but I love all Reba's music..I actually see how her songs play out with the situation
Hi, dear, how are you? I wish you a good day.

This is when music actually had a story in it
Dominick Villella this music has meaning
Have you listened to J Cole at all?
Dominick Villella music still has a story
@MsUn PC your music sucks, you dont even know how much music has evolved.
Dominick Villella Luke combs kinda tells a story
This is what a good song does. Tells a riveting story in 4-6 minutes. I’m by no means a country fan. I like my music with a lot of metal in it. But I appreciate talent and Reba has plenty of that. This is a great cover
if you are not born in this era but still you love this kinda music..welcome to the club.

Reba is by far my favorite female country singer and this easily my favorite song of hers
this and fancy are both the best
Interesting, considering they're both covers. Really good covers, though. Reba knows how to belt out a tune.

Queen of country always pulls you into her songs; she's amazing.
Soft and pure in heart, Hi how are you doing?
Isn't that true though. My husband was in love with her and all of her music. She's just got that special something you don't always find easily.
I've never really considered her to be Country. Just one of the singers I've enjoyed hearing and looking at.
You know she’s telling the story of many people in the country, one thing obvious, don’t trust your soul to a back woods southern lawyer (all) and the judge has blood stains on his/her hands.
This SHOULD BE the soundtrack for the upcoming #MurtaughMurders!! Don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer ...🤔🤔
The funny thing about the video is that it mentioned Andy being [Reba's character]'s fiance, which isn't in the actual song and makes several things a LOT clearer. It always bugged me that the second victim was Andy rather than "that Amos boy Seth" - even if Andy was supposedly the brother's friend, I couldn't understand why 'Reba' chose him to die too. But if they were supposed to be married, and both he and the cheating wife died at the same time (I always thought they were two separate attacks), the motive makes much more sense. And the fact that the judge was also having an affair with the wife; I just figured both he and the sheriff were lazy / uninterested in digging deeper in an 'obvious' case.
Yes, I looked for a coherent narrative in country songs as a kid. I was weird.
+RuneTraverse I have been listening to this song for 20+ years, and this is the first day I realised the fiance thing. Complete game changer.
jenn buck I know, right? I had to rewind that bit in the vid, like "wait, he was WHAT?"
Brother finds out his wife slept with his friend Andy and Seth Amos. Angry, he goes and gets his gun to kill Andy. Little does he know his little sister Reba has already killed Andy and her brothers wife, whom had slept with Andy, Seth, the judge, and Rebas fiance(who was not andy). The judge wanted a guilty verdict asap so it didn't come to light that he had an affair with the woman.
RuneTraverse Thats not weird. That called making sense of something and your right that part was the missing puzzle to this song to me too.
Blake Meche Seth being the fiance of Andys sister doesn't give here motive to kill Andy or her brothers wife more than Andy actually being her husband. Cheating husband and brothers wife murdered by angry Wife and Sister makes more sense.
This is a great example of Country music done perfectly. 2021 Country artists needs to wake up.
Hello Tim how are you doing!!

I've always thought this is song, given the right writer, would do well as a film. Hearing this song my whole life, and the video is EXCELLENT. It's always added to the Southern Gothic mystique.

My mom loved your music so much that she would play it every day , she would even watch your show. When we found out she had cancer again I would play I'm a survivor for her knowing that it was one of her favorite songs by you. Hello how are you doing today 😊😊
Alex Murdaugh trial brought me back to this song. “Never trust your soul with that backwoods southern lawyer”.
This should be made into a full length movie❤ I would definitely watch it! I
The stainless steel Smith & Wesson Model 67 revolver in this video wasn't invented until 1972. Which is interesting because this song was originally written in 1972, then this music video was released in 1992.
They should have used a single action Colt, since it was left to her brother by their father thus it would have been an older pistol. Supposedly this story takes place in the 1920s as she confessed "40 years later" in 1962. A Smith & Wesson Model 1899 would have been a good choice as well.
@Reba McEntire The real Reba McEntire using a one month old account huh?
"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" is a Southern Gothic murder ballad, written in 1972 by songwriter Bobby Russell and first recorded by his then wife, singer, comedian, and actress Vicki Lawrence. Lawrence's version, from her 1973 album of the same name, went to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart after its release. Of several cover versions, the one recorded by Reba McEntire for her 1991 album For My Broken Heart peaked at number 12 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Hello Roseanne how are you doing!!
If ever I got a girl kitten as a new 🐈 pet
I would name her Reba🐾
Tuscaloosa Alabama
He was on his way home from Candletop
Been two weeks gone and he thought he'd stop
At Web's and have him a drink for he went home to her
Andy Wo-Lo said hello
He said "Hi what's new"
And Wo said "Sit down I got some bad news that's gonna hurt"
Said I'm your best friend and you know that's right
But your young bride ain't home tonight
Since you been gone she's been seeing that Amos boy Seth
Now, he got mad and he saw red
Andy said boy don't you lose your head
'Cause to tell you the truth I've been with her myself
That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands
Andy got scared and left the bar
Walkin' on home cause he didn't live far you see
Andy didn't have many friends and he just lost him one
Brother thought his wife must've left town
So he went home and finally found the only thing
Daddy had left him and that was a gun
He went off to Andy's house
Slipping through the backwoods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back porch door
And he saw Andy lyin' on the floor
In a puddle of blood and he started to shake
Georgia patrol was making their rounds
So he fired a shot just to flag em down
A big bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said
"Why'd you do it?"
The judge said guilty on a make-believe trial
Slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile
Said supper's waitin' at home and I gotta get to it
That's the night the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands
Well, they hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To Andy's house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin' wife had never left town
That's one body that'll never be found
You see little sister don't miss when she aims her gun
That's the night the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands
That's the night the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands
Alls I know that I used to sing this song at the top of mylungs word for word, as a little girl. Now as a grown woman I canr believe how dark this song is. This could happen in any small town America. I feel there are more guilty people convicted than innocent people, however the line "Cuz the judge in the towns got bloodstains on his hands" hits hard because there are many a people that are failed by the lack of help that they recieve from them and the only thing they are guilty of is asking for help in first place. 😢

I have always loved this song. I can't remember the original artist, but Reba does this even better. This is the only video interpretation of it I've watched. It is incredible. Reba looks stunning. She was pretty and cute in the early 80's. But she is so gorgeous now. She radiates good energy that comes through in her music and videos.
The original artist was Vicki Lawrence from the Carol Burnett Show.
Who else but Bobbie Gentry.... it was a crossover hit way back in 1969... I was just a wee little country boy growing up in Alabama
A true country singer with heart! I enjoyed this song from beginning to end when she sang it. 🇱🇷🌹
I love reading through the comments here and seeing the deep responses this draws from people. That's the power of art and great artists.
Three things about Reba I just love. First her voice and talent! I could listen to her till all lights went out in the world. Second, is her beauty. No doubt about it. She is both beautiful inside and out. The third thing is we both share the same birthday and birth year. It may sound a bit bias but that's okay. She is sure one great country girl.
My dream is to meet her one day. I probably would't be able to talk her because I wouldn't believe who standing in front if me.
This woman is not just beautiful but she is such an amazing storyteller
Been loving this song for years and still can’t tell you the plot. All I know is that its the night when the lights went out in Georgia and that’s all that matters. It’s like a Bible verse, who knows what’s going on but we repeat them anyway
Her fiance was sleeping with her brother Raymond's wife, so when she found out she shot both the wife and her fiance. Raymond was coming home from away when he learned from the bartender that his wife was sleeping with everybody in town, including the bartender. Raymond walked home in grief, and he walked in on Reba killing the two lovers. He took the blame, and when Reba tried to protest the judge sentenced Raymond anyways because the judge was trying to cover up his own involvement with Raymond's wife
Edit: at least, that's the full plot of the music video. The song lyrics imply that Raymond (who is unnamed) was creeping up to kill a man named Seth Amos when he discovered that his sister had already killed them both.
Reba has always been my favorite female country singer, really she's my favorite female singer of all time. Love, love Fancy and The Night the Lights went out in Georgia. I would Love to see her in concert.

One of my favorites by Reba...Reba has a unique way of telling a story in her songs with body language and facial expressions...she's beautiful inside and out and so very talented...that's why she is such a good actress...Reba doesn't have to try or put much effort to singing or acting...she is a natural...love you Reba...
we have Bobbie Gentry who deserves much thank for that
I have to admit Reba McEntire is one of the finest female country artists I have ever heard. She's expressive she's true to the song it was absolutely beautiful. And I understood it so completely. Thank you Reba McEntire you will always be top notch and I love the song. Real feeling, real emotions. Bravo encore God Bless America and God bless Reba McEntire!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🌹

I got to meet her when she was just getting started. What a sweet lady! Not only can she sing, she can act! I still watch the reruns of her sitcom, and I love every minute! She is awesome!
Vicki Lawrence Started it And Reba Finished it beautiful Job Ladies
Can you say ALEX MURDAUGH! Never trust a backwoods southern lawyer
Reba's version of this is by far the best. So chilling and haunting

I remember when this beautiful brilliant most talented lady came out with this song .. it’s a freaking masterpiece.. even though she wasn’t the first to sing it .. SHE MADE THIS SONG A TREASURE
It was written by Bobby Gentry in 1969-big hit

Back when country music made you feel it. You had no choice; the imagery, the writing, and the vocals all come together to controll 3 of the 5 senses and take you for the trip.
Its definitely a trip
