    Thanks Bill! I'm looking to paint my house in the next 12 months, I'll definitely be watching this again. Doesn't seem as daunting now.

    Thank you Bill for another excellent video. I took your advice and purchased the Monarch brand brush and used the Taubmans Endure paint. Combined with your tips and tricks the results have been amazing. Keep up the great work!

    Glad to know I was on the right track with the painting technique.
    Found your channel after I had some painting i just completed that has failed to adhere to the old existing paint and peeled straight off after I masked up. The surface primer didn't work. The old paint we are painting over is some sort of super hard oil based gloss enamel that's sitting on top of half a dozen other coats of God know what over a lime + gypsum hardwall.
    Saw the video on peeling paint. According to that, I am going to have to scrape it all back. Looks like the primer found something to bind to, then separated that from the paint underneath. Fortunately its only the 18" or so above where the old picture rails were. However, the horse hair plaster patterned ceiling has the same oil gloss paint. Fortunately I had only done a test patch. there. Same deal. Came straight off.
    I am wondering if it is the stuff that my mate warned me about back in the 90s that he used on some speaker boxes. It was durable, and nothing, not even Nashua gaffa tape would stick to it.
    I've got a lot of Dulux Precision oil based primer I use to seal and prime the hardwall plaster. Going to give that a go. See how well that works. Test a small Patch. If it sticks. It's really for plaster walls, but it's oil, and has a better chance of sticking. Failing that, I'll have to find something that's probably rather expensive and smelly...to prime, or to strip to off....
    Such are the joys of a 120 year old house that hasn't been touched since the 80s
    As far as brands of paint. I have been using Dulux Precision sealer binder on the hardwall. Blitz Total primer for the undercoat and Blitz Optiwhite for the top coats. That stuff is like a creamy mousse. Goes on so smooth, consistent, doesn't drip. Covers over what's underneath without getting too thick. Clean off marks with a wipe down. Made by Robertson's Paint out at St Mary's in Sydney. Good to support local and Aussie owned.

    Hi Bill. Is there any good non toxic paint you can recommend as I've got kids with allergies/sensitivities? Also do you have a video on how to prepare the walls (holes/scratches from kids etc) and how to protect flooring, furniture etc?

    Hey Bill - the opening speech with the powerpoints in the background reminded me, any chance of doing a video on how to replace the faces with more modern ones? I'm hoping not to need an electrician call out just to update some of the face plates.

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  2 месяца назад

      Unfortunately the face can not be swapped out for another without changing the whole power point. They are only designed to fit that particular switch or point.

    Can you do a video on how to paint double height walls, such as in open stairwells, rooms with vaulted ceilings, etc.? I don’t know how to do it with leaving transition marks because the roller dries out if I try to paint the wall from top to bottom on each pass…

    Are you only doing the roller part twice or also the brush part? Another question I have the same type of crown moulding, but at certain parts the moulding is coming lose from the ceiling. I've seen people fix it with a nail gun, but I was wondering if you knew of an alternative way of fixing it back in place.

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  2 месяца назад +1

      If you are doing two coats of paint than cut in and roll twice. In Australia our cornice/crown/coving is made of plasterboard so screws and nails are not sufficient. I have a few tricks for this that I will add to my to do list for videos and upload in the near future 👍👍👍

    Hi bill, what is the plastic sleeve called, the one you use as a liner for the paint bucket ?

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Месяц назад

      They are paint tray sleeves or inserts specifically made for the rokset brand. Other brands have them also for their trays/buckets 👍

    *Hmmmm interesting... When I paint the walls (after the ceilings are done). I always undo the power & light switches & have them hanging... Paint all the walls and ONLY put the power & light switch back on after five days as that allows the paint to harden. Many years later when I repaint those same walls, the switches come off real easy. When I paint other peoples walls and that has not been done when taking those switches off I have to gently cut with a Stanley knife around it as otherwise the pain rips off the wall then work has to be done to fix up the mess left from the previous painter.!! Even if the floor is being replaced I still use a drop sheet 🙂nz*

    Hmm... Bill looks... younger? It's worth a mention that we consumers ought to test our existing painted walls - if there's paint on them - as you'll get some very bizarre things happening if you put the wrong type of paint over another type of paint. 🙂

    Bro how come your not using your paint gun?
    I mean i know your showing us via the roller and brush but my real question i guess is what would you rate, brush or paint gun

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  2 месяца назад +1

      Spray gun is only used on certain areas depending on the project. I never spray walls as it’s much easier to control the paint with minimal prep work. In my opinion Mastering brush and roller should be first when painting 👍👍👍
