I've tried several techniques for rolling on some dark green paint in my bathroom, with each time getting closer to streak free, but still not there yet! I see some of the errors of my ways now and I think I'll now be able to solve my painting problems!!!

    great tips, don't be tempted as the roller runs low on paint to push harder...you'll just squish paint out of the ends...steady pressure always...and don't cut in the whole room, just a section at a time so you are going over wet paint !

    3 stages to applying finishes. 1. get the liquid on the wall. 2. spread it out evenly . 3. make it pretty. Always remember what stage you are on.

    Should comment on roller as especially in Tampa with textured walls the roller sleeve used makes a big difference.

    Wish I saw this video before I started my second coat with Behr Dynasty paints...I have a horrendous mess from my patch-up work because I was using up my leftover paint and applied it like an artist would to a painting, just like your first example. It's very hard as an artist to remember that wall painting is not the same as doing canvas painting, especially with the ingredients and gloss type being involved heavily in the final product of a DIY job. 😅

    Nice camerawork to catch the unevenness of the paint at the start of the video! Why don't you spray? And is sanding the only remedy for getting rid of marks on previously painted walls? Thanks.

    Excellent video, very helpful. The roller I use whilst being 9 inch wide has a plastic paint shield underneath it and consequently the pole fixes to it in the niddle of the paint shield. Is this device OK or would you recomend I change it to the type you are using in the video?

    It's like watching paint dry😁 however very good tips and somewhat common sense. Buy good quality paint that won't splatter and will cover in one coat if the previous paint is a light color. The long handle certainly reduces stress on your arms and you can get better pressure.

I want to get rid of the roller marks shown on my wall after 2 coats, and wonder if it will help to do sanding before the 3rd coat.

    This looks like a high end job.. Spencer I was wondering your thoughts and potential video on the subject of wall finishing. I have a lot of “decorator friends” who scoff at me for - slightly thinning down thick gloopy paint, straining it, and applying it with medium or thin nap rollers. Especially for the finish coat. These are non negotiable things on high end finish jobs in my opinion and can’t see how anyone wouldn’t do that. Apparently painting thick contaminated paint with long nap rollers straight on to prepped walls is the professional way 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ please help Spencer tell me I’m not crazy

      A good rule of thumb I use is to cut in a wall, roll it, then cut in the next wall, roll it… That way you are rolling into a wet edge.

    You have heard the saying when using a hand saw, let the weight of the saw do the work. The same is true for a paint roller. It takes skill and practice to master this but you will never leave a roller track again.

    When applying your first coat (or mist coat), would it be acceptable to go in any direction just to get paint on the wall? Following up with the correct procedure on the second coat.

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  10 месяцев назад +2

      Strictly speaking, it doesn’t matter too much, unless you’re heavy-handed; however, you should go in the same direction on the first coat as the second, so that you don’t make ridges sideways and horizontally; it is a natural to repeat in anyway other than vertically, and therefore you will likely causes ridges

  • @jumbo8996
    @jumbo8996 2 месяца назад

    This is right. Always use a quality sleeve but don’t apply too much pressure or you will create edges of paint and crush the nap of the roller.

    I'm always surprised by how much paint can be applied in one roll. If I have the roller so wet that i can do even one full roll top to bottom, then it's dripping with paint. This guy is doing two or more rolls, and there is consistent uniform paint application. Is it better paint, better rollers??
