Hays is an okay sized town in the middle of nowhere in Kansas, and Russell is where Bob Dole was born. Thank you for joining me in today's edition of boring Kansas facts.

I’m catching up on some of these lives I missed. I grew up in Russell. My grandparents lived right behind Bob Dole’s mother, Bina. Still have lots of family there and Hays both (27 miles away in Ellis County, home to FHSU). I moved away the morning after my high school graduation and have been back only for my grandparent’s funerals- last one being in 1998! As you may surmise, I just LOVED living there! LOL
I can't imagine why anyone would want a divorce from her...I just can't imagine. 🤣

I only had a single divorce. In my experience 100% of divorces are bad.
Me and my ex husband did our divorce ourselves after 15 years. We all went out to dinner afterwords. 15 years later and our kids are almost grown. 5/5 would recommend.
Judge Braun sure seems to be working diligently for his community. His willingness to put in time on weekends or start his day early shows to me that he sees his as a role of service.
I can certainly understand why she is no longer represented. She has a very bad attitude.

Approx.20 yrs ago, there was an attorney that I hired. He was a regular customer at the restaurant I worked for at the time. I paid my retainer, and he showed up to court 2 times. All of a sudden, he stopped showing up and that’s when I found out he was disbarred for fraud!!!😂😂 Also, he was to represent my coworker as well and played her too!!! Lesson learned!!!😂
So she just up and moved without seeking court approval. Ouch….

I realized divorces can get ugly. But that lady needs to lose that attitude because I don't think it's going to help her out.
I remember a time when you could disagree with someone politically, but still find common ground and get along. Unfortunately those days are long gone.

My best friend in the world and I had very different political views when we were younger, and yeah, we just didn't talk about them. And when we did, we were respectful of each other. If things were back then like they are now, we probably would be mortal enemies... it's just so sad. I'm so lucky to have her in my life and it kills me to see people miss out on knowing incredible people because of their politics.

I’m not a lawyer but I was able to do my custody court proceedings without council. Paperwork was the worst part of the entire thing. That and the stress of appearing as professional as possible In court 😳. I won but I don’t want to have to do it again
I’m not a lawyer either and did my WHOLE divorce myself and custody court and won hands down. Be honest, don’t talk when someone is talking and never lose respect. 👏🏽

Did you hear about the 1600 attorneys who were marked as inactive by the bar association in California because they didn't do proper paperwork for some law? I heard Steve Leto do a video about it a couple of days ago. If this is taking place in California that may have happened to her attorney..
It wasn’t a law. It was an ethics rule requiring attorneys in private practice to have, and use properly, interest-bearing bank accounts to hold clients’ money in trust until earned by the attorney by doing work on the clients’ cases and providing documentation of the time worked to the clients. The attorneys who were suspended had ample time to respond to the bar association’s requests for proof of compliance. They made the fatal error of failing to respond in any manner.
If you don’t follow the rules, you run the risk of being removed from the playing field. That’s what happened here.
What is disappointing is that the California Bar Association failed to establish and maintain an active program to assure that their members were in compliance and to administer appropriate discipline for non-compliance. If they had, there would not have been any need to discipline such a shockingly large number of attorneys at one time.

A lawyer friend told me that one time he was on jury duty and he had cases in front of the judge presiding over the trial. They didn't excuse him in that case though, maybe the court rules are different but it would seem like knowing the judge wouldn't make you biased against either party.

In America are attorneys registered state wide or county by county? If the latter, that seems to be a very small jurisdiction.

They are registered state wide.
you must pass the bar exam in whatever state you want to practice... so if you want to practice in california you have to pass the california bar exam and be admitted to the california bar association. some states have reciprocity where based on certain conditions you may practice in another state in which you are a not a member of that state's bar association - usually you have to associate with an attorney from that state so they can advise you on any differences in law or procedure.

Where I live in Canada, our children do not go back to school until after the Labour Day weekend, this year it is September 05th. They are done the last week of June.
When do children get out for the summer if they start August 17th?
When I was in school, 80s and 90s, we went back to school after Labor Day. Now, they go back, then have off for Labor Day. They also have more school holidays now. It just doesn't make sense. 😂 Still get out in the beginning of June.
We go first week of August and get out last week of May, or just before Memorial Day.

Our school divisions have tightened the issue since then, there aren't near as many 'In Service' days as there used to be.

I’m in Colorado, but originally from Michigan, and as far as I can tell, Gretchen Whitmer is doing a great job. She has done a ton to protect lgbt rights and women’s rights.
