    Thank you for talking about the salary because... people assume that ALL social workers make $25-30K 😑 People can be so ignorant and uninformed.

Could you explain why you went into social work and how you knew it was right for you over any other career path?

    • @SocialWorkScrapbook

      Your sense of direction is great! Glad you are thinking of the differences already. I also knew that I wanted to go into the school system. My decision to go into social work was based on the fact that I am inclined to meet students and families during their hardships. I also wants a hands on role in impacting others' lives. School Psychology is great, and needed but in my experience they tend to refrain from actual student and family contact.

    Hi Lauren! Your channel is heaven-sent, it’s really helped me! So I had a question, I have my msw, on the children & families track. I’m taking my LMSW soon, also, I’m wrapping up my play therapy certification. My internships didn’t include school social work, but did include play therapy with children with emotional and social challenges. Next month I will start applying to positions, do you think I would not be qualified for a school social worker (I’ve heard some provide play therapy in a school setting)? My fear is not getting any position I apply for! I know that’s crazy, but I’m worried lol.
    Also, correct me if I am wrong, but to take the LCSW, a social worker must be working in a clinical setting, for at least 2 years, have an LCSW supervisor and get 100 hours of supervision in a 24-month period? Is that right? Thank you for any feedback! ❤️

    • @SocialWorkScrapbook
      @SocialWorkScrapbook  6 лет назад +2

      Yay! You are on a roll! Your concentration and internship experience definitely qualify you for the school social work role! Its totally normal to be nervous, so was I when I first graduated. Believe in your skill set, any place that accepts you would be lucky!
      Yes, for the LCSW I believe you need 2 years of social work experience (it does not need to be strictly clinical), but you will need a certain amount of clinical contact hours as you are getting two years of clinical supervision.

    Hi! I just discovered your channel. My name is Taylor, and I'm a sophomore in college double majoring with a Human Development and Family Studies degree and Elementary Education. I'm interested in social work. Do you think this degree is a good tract before I get my masters? Also, are there any types of social work that deal with homelessness? And if so, do you need a master's for that? I'm worried about going into social work because people make it out to be depressing.

    • @SocialWorkScrapbook
      @SocialWorkScrapbook  5 лет назад

      Family Studies and Human Dev. are perfect for an eventual MSW. There are several positions with the homeless population that social workers work with--- not all need a Master's degree but the work is difficult. You will most likely make more of an impact with a MSW degree. Does this make sense?

      Brooke do sw get paid what they are worth ..no but neither do plenty other professions . all I’m gonna say is I’ve never met a MSW or a licensed SW that lives in the hood ..most live and raise their kids in the same neighborhoods as teachers, nurses, dental hygienists, LPCs , etccc aka middle class . Hope that answers your question . Btw most MSW jobs I see are 9am-5pm hours . If you choose to work in a hospital that may differ but even then most of the shifts are 8 hours .

    Is it possible to concentrate in two concentrations? A big part of choosing social work as a major is the flexibility offered, and I'd want to be able to move between medical and school social work in case I get bored and want to move around some. Or could I concentrate on one in my bachelor's, and the other in my master's?
