Perfect timing!!! I am doing my placement with a elementary school counselor now and I see that SW and counselor are similar. While interning, I find myself doing a lot of behavior interventions. It seems like it’s alot of “therapy” sessions going on when we are handling the interventions .
I have my associates in Human Services & am currently majoring in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Originally I thought I was leaning towards Child Psychologist or school Psychologist or Counselor but never 100% sold on it. However halfway through my bachelor's & I realize that I should have majored in Sociology but & this point I'm not starting over. It took me forever to settle on something but now know that I want to bea school Social Worker & will eventually go on to get a masters in school social work. My goal on top of school social work is I want to own my own Academic Center that doubles as a Campground
Perfect timing! I just got into my second MSW program today -- looking at going this fall. But I come from a public policy and journalism academic background, and have been working as an elementary teacher assistant for the past year. So I still have lots to consider and figure out!
Omg I am so glad I found your video! I am graduating with my BS in Social Services this Spring, and I am unsure if I want to get my masteres in social work or school counseling. The way you broke down the similarities and differences was sooo incredibly helpful! Thank you! Can't wait to watch your other videos
I am currently enrolled in a Behavioral Health (Emphasis in Childhood and Adolescence Mental Disorders) Bachelor program. This is my last year, and I was extremely overwhelmed 🤯 and going wicked 😵💫 as I am concerned about entering a Master's program that does not suit me. However, this video was extremely helpful. The role of a School Social Worker definitely fits my career desires. Thanks so much for this video. It gave me such a clear vision 🧘♀️💆♀️
This was very helpful! I was a little bit worried that I chose a career that was not suited for me. This video gave me comfort in my decision to become a school social worker. Thank you!!!
Omg THANK YOU for this!! I am a high school special ed teacher and I was accepted into an MSW program that starts next month and I’m so torn between pursuing school social work vs school counseling. I sooo needed this video 👏🏽
I am new to school social work, and the only one in my district. I am assisting the district in creating a SSW protocol and would love any recommendations for documentation at the middle school level.
This video helps me a lot thx so much. You are inspiring to me. I have been so confused between very both of them and what I should focus on too cuz I majored in both and I didnt know which route I should choose. Thx a lot.
Hi Lauren, do you have any ideas about community services? Would love know the difference between SW and community work in practice. I’m from Australia following bachelors of community services.
I'm in an independent school in Australia and it's super different. 90 percent of my time is in individual sessions. However, the role is not called 'school social worker'. See
Thanks for the info! Do you know whether school counselors or social workers take more responsibility for students' social-emotional learning? I am very interested in that specific area and I'd like to go into a role that could promote that! Thank you!

What sounds harder to your ears? 1. Certified Public Accountant or 2. Masters Degree in Statistics?

What did you end up choosing?

Hi! In my district *elementary* counseling is the way to go if you are interested in SEL lessons. good luck to you!! you are needed!😃
Are they both hard to get hired in ? I heard school counseling is highly competitive making it harder to get a job ?
Does a school worker get paid through the school or city?
I think I need more questions😅
I never knew that schools had social workers
I'd say a counselor is different as they would have likely studied clinical psychology so their expertise is up a notch in this regard from a SW.
I got DD CCC .... hmm
