Love my MSW program. We need to accumulate at least 1200 unpaid internship hours in my program. It's been a busy program as we juggle school work, internship responsibilities, and work schedules. Super busy -- but grateful to be in this program.
Hi I’m a senior in High school and I’m thinking about getting a BSW and I just wanted to say that your videos are so helpful and SO nice because it’s so real and honest. Whenever I feel like I want to graduate and start planning my future, I start one of your videos or college advise videos and the education that I get from those puts me at ease. So thanks for sharing your work and your life with us all!!!
This is such a fun comment to receive!! I'm so glad these videos have remained helpful and motivational to you. If you ever have any questions that come up, don't hesitate to let me know :)
I'm going into the BSW program in August! I can't wait to move onto the MSW when I'm finished. Thank you so much for posting and sharing your experiences ❤
Thank You so much Anna for all your videos and advice! I’m a psychology major and am very interested in a MSW program. Your videos have been very helpful in this process.
Hi Jacob! I'm so glad to hear that :) The videos coming out in the next couple of weeks I think will be especially helpful for you. Let me know if you have any questions I can answer! And thank you for watching these vids 🥳🥳
Hi Anna! This video has been super helpful. I am starting to watch more of your videos, along with others who have experience in field placement, and their tips on social work. I will be starting my MSW program in May of 2023. I just finished undergrad as a psychology major with a concentration in mental health counseling. I have no prior field placement experience, so I am feeling a bit nervous but also excited. Your videos have eased my nerves a bit !! 😊
I'm so glad the videos are reaching their target audience!! I totally relate to the nerves going into a new program. You've got it 💗💗 The people in class with you will be sharing those feelings right alongside you.
@@AnnaBea Thanks, Anna!! 💗 I always enjoy your videos. You’re always very transparent which is refreshing and knowledgeable. I am thankful I won’t be alone in this journey, as I know many of my peers will be going through the same adjustments and I’ll have a great support system.
Good morning happy Monday morning and I just wanted to say that your vlogs is amazing and I loved your channel always because you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of you
I loved this so much! Thank you for sharing, I go through that imposter syndrome a lot sometimes so thank you for saying that because nerves do kick in 🥺 I remember when I did my first internship for the first month all I did was get coffee 🤣 it’s so true
My practicum starts August 19th with Child Protection Services, Investigation Unit. I’m really excited bc it’s paid and my graduation is in December for my BSW. I’m really excited but I’m hoping that the rest of this year will fly by honestly.
I'm so glad it was helpful!!! Best of luck with your upcoming field experience :) never hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if I can be of any help!
Had a bad experience at my first internship and was left as a head worker alone on my second day... I said I was overwhelmed and they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. Never got really trained even. Didn't know what my responsibilities were yet. Scared about finding another spot because everywhere is full for the semester and I'm scared now :( This video for sure checked some boxes
Thank you for this so much! I start field in the fall and I’m hoping to get placed at one of the local elementary schools near my school! This helped me a bunch! I feel a bit more prepared lol
I'm so glad that it was helpful!! My BSW field was in an elementary school so if you have any questions or anything, please don't hesitate to let me know :) That's so exciting for you!!! Best of luck!!!
So cool that I found you! I live in the St. Louis area and didn’t know you were from Columbia Missouri!!! Small world! Did you go to school for a year for your msw since you got a BSW. I am currently graduating with my undergrad in human services and I got accepted into Missouri Baptist University MSW program!
That IS so cool! Yes, born and raised in Columbia :') Big loves for Missouri. And yes, I got my BSW at the University of Alabama in May 2021 and then will be graduating with MSW from Fordham University in May 2022. Imposter syndrome hits hard!! I definitely feel you. If you're looking for community in the feeling, my vlogs from fall semester go into my experience with it a bit more because I was definitely struggling with it. Also there's a section in this video: ruclips.net/video/j7nC5P_LfC4/видео.html that discusses it as well. I think my #1 tip is to continually speak kind words to yourself and feel assured in the fact that school is your time to learn, not your time to be perfect. Also that any social work interaction is first and foremost a human interaction so if you are empathetic towards your future clients and truly care about them, they will pick up on that.
Hello Anna, your videos are helpful, you were lucky to have a field placement person helping you out with your field experience, I don’t think my school has that, I am left to find a placement for myself, it’s very stressful and difficult because I should start my field experience in 2 months and I still don’t have a place to do it.
My biggest question is what sort of days and hours did they have you doing? I work full time, a 9-5, and full time schooling and it’s making me nervous how to make everything work
My internship hours were 9-4 Monday, Thursday, and Friday. I know people are sometimes able to find internships outside of 9-5 hours, but it’s a bit tough since many social workers in settings you’d be interning in work those regular hours 😫
I am working on my bachelor's degree and am already working in the field. I am a treatment specialist, and I hope to be able to do my field placement where I am working at.
How does field placement work if you have a full time job? Do you have to be their everyday? Or can you do it say 1 or 2 days per week until getting all your hours.
Usually, it's pretty flexible as long as you're getting the hours! My MSW program, I was in field 3 days a week for a total of 21 hours a week. Some of my classmates did maintain full time jobs while completing the program & big hats off to them because definitely difficult to do so much, but also definitely possible
Hi! I'm 27 and currently accepted into a masters program. However, I'm unsure how to work the field placement around my full time job. Do you have any information regarding that? I don't think it's feasible for me to have to quit my job, lose my income, insurance, and all that. Are there any programs that work with you on this?
there are programs that will work with you on this & I've seen people do it before! it definitely is a lot to manage while still working and may take extra effort finding a field placement offering hours outside of normal working hours, but also is not impossible. good luck!
How's life post graduation I'm in ontario in college as SSW Gerontology..after most of the class is branching into 3rd year SW..what field did you go into after
Yes, total over the program time! Different schools space out hours differently. In undergrad, I did them all in 1 semester. In grad school, it was over two semesters. Sometimes schools will have a “okay this semester you’re basically entirely focused on field” semester or they’ll do it where it’s integrated in throughout
Hi, I just want to say I enjoy your videos. They have been wonderful in helping me figure things out when it comes to social work. I'm definitely interested in working in a jail setting, similar as you have. But I'm curious. What are the things the field instructor is actually grading us on during the practicum/field placement? I'm super nervous about this because I've had a bad experience before in another program... Not in social work or anything like that, so yeah. I just want to be prepared mentally, so I get all the allotted points and be sure I'm being graded fairly.

I'm a prospective MSW student. I just want to say I really appreciate and value your videos. thank you!

I do.500 15 weeks field placement for my program

Do you get paid for the field experience?
I didn’t! Some have stipends, but not all

can you suggest which college will be better for MSW and how to get funding in any MSW program?
What college are you at? I am going to be a MSW student in Atlanta and was curious!
I was online through Fordham University but lived in Atlanta the whole time! (still do) Good luck to you!! Hope you love it 💗💗
Hi! I’m thinking about starting BSW but wondering how soon after you start do you get field placement? Thanks.
Mine was in my second to last semester of the program!
Are "placements" the internships that you get during the Practicum classes? And Do I choose my own company or does the school assign me somewhere ?
1- yes!
2- At my university they asked us where we would like to be assigned but it didn’t guarantee we’d end up there
how many hours per semester? is 900 total over two years ?
Yes, total over the program time! Different schools space out hours differently. In undergrad, I did them all in 1 semester. In grad school, it was over two semesters.
