I am enjoying the book list, and I see you are able to do more intervention based social services in your schools. I am also a school social worker following all students in 4 schools (2 elementary and 2 middle schools). We do preschool goals, social services and community referrals, IEP meetings, truancy diversion meetings and filing for truancy when necessary for all grades. Keep up the great DITL videos 🙂

Hi Lauren thank you so much for this video! I will be starting my first job out of grad school as a school social worker at an elementary school. I've been researching good book for newbies. I did find that treatment planner on my search along with the school social worker toolkit book. I do plan to purchase both of those!

Howdy! As a hopeful future school social worker, I am wondering how you found yourself in middle schools and if that was a choice. I have the most experience with the 0-5 age range through working in a daycare for many years in HS and in college. I am unsure if I could work as a SW in preschools or early education centers, so I am trying to figure out where I would fit in the best. I am leaning towards elementary schools. Lol TL;DR if you were able to choose, how did you choose what age level you were working with? Cheers on the great videos. You have a new subscriber and Insta follower here :)

In the preschool or early educations centers having the additional credentials of music or art therapist is very helpful for that population because of language and communication barriers.
I believe it’s all trail and error finding the best fit for you in terms of populations.

Hi Lauren, thank you for the videos! they give me a glimpse of what I am getting myself into. I was wondering how stressful is it to be a social worker. Also, if it is worth going into the field from both the financial and mental aspect . I would love to become a social worker and I am thinking about getting a bachelors degree in the field. However, I get negative bush pack to become one from family members.

Hey Lauren, you are not alone. I made a video last fall addressing this worry as one of the fears that keep many away from the field...hope you can check it out.
Ultimately as long as you are doing what you love everything balances out. I would not take a higher paying job that did not allow me to do something I truly believed in -- I am at peace knowing that I am adding purpose to the world.

Monica Rante I am so sorry to hear this, unfortunately there are workplace bullies everywhere. Please be sure to report this if necessary and surround yourself with positive people.
I have a video on toxic workplaces. Maybe it will help 🤎
