I love the work you’re doing. I really like how you do the bottom of your boxes and that top is out of this world. That took some time to do. You must have a lot of patience. Keep up the great work.
I'm glad you set your camera down and picked up a tape measure. You have a gift Skyler and it shines through with every project and detailed easy to follow tutorial. You make it look easy and aproachable, however I know if I started today it might be done in March, and with out a doubt wouldn't be close to the qualityand as stunning as that 3d box turned out! Thanks Skyler, stunning project and tutorial!
Thank you just the trick of the 2 stop blocks, so simple but effective! Is most of all your work one of a kind or do you make multiples and market your work? Your the best please don't stop what your doing!@@woodworkingwithSkyler
@@lespaulguitarmn1 thank you. One of a kind but never sold anything that I made. Only made it for family and friends as gifts. Just , never believed my work was good enough to sell. However, my new year resolution is to start selling things I am making in 2024
Wow. That box turned out amazing! The lid is beautiful! Just a safety concern that I noticed. Wearing a hoodie with dangling strings and leaning over a running or winding down table saw blade could be dangerous. I always tuck my strings under my shirt so there is less chance of them getting caught and winding around the spinning arbor. Great job, beautiful work!
While there is clearly a great deal of work and patients involved, you are obviously enjoying what you are doing....And that's a good thing. Looking forward to more projects..
This is a great box video! I have been saving box videos over the past several months, but this is my favorite I've seen. I am going to make your box my firstt one to try. I have been making cutting boards and charcuterie boards, but now onto boxes! Thanks for this one!
@woodworkingwithSkyler I like the overall design (I also like the black sweater...where did you get it? Looks comfy)... If you keep some of your sawdust you can mix it with ca glue to make a matching wood filler. A clever woman such as yourself can make your mini shapes using your router, table saw, scrollsaw and band saw! Use the table saw or bandsaw to cut dowels to a bit larger than the finished dimensions...then use your router on the dowel for the profile you want...then slice off the thickness of pieces you want on the scrollsaw! That way you control the tools and do the work yourself...not some computer.
That’s a lovely box, those tiny parts are difficult to handle. Nice to see your process and how you manage any issues arising. I have plenty of issues so watching you solving them helps a lot
You did a sweet job on that one, I’m still making leaf boxes like the one you made, love making them thanks for that video as well. I too had a question on the dual tape dispenser. Looking forward to your answer on where you got it. Enjoy your day.
This box, like your others, is beautiful! You would have had better grain match on three sides if you hadn't flipped the face as you cut the sides. If the grain pattern doesn't run parallel between the faces, flipping the faces on the miter saw will shift the grain pattern up or down. Love the creativity!
Hi Skyler, it's Grover. THIS video is one of my favorite videos you have done. The level of skill and dedication to make that lid is AMAZING , I'm very impressed. Wait . . . . . I just noticed that tape dispenser , Skyler please give some information .
Skyler , Truly beautiful box! Do you like your Dewalt table/ contractor saw? Accuracy/ease of use. My daughter has my old, large Sears and wants to get something smaller for her 1car garage.
Its a decent saw. However i dont trust it for 45 degree cuts as its hard to dial it perfectly. also my saw has some issues. The nut on the arbor keeps coming loose, which is dangerous. I will be upgrading to a saw stop in next month
The file I purchased from Etsy. However it was not a perfect cut as the diamond was not a perfect cut. I will work on making my own design, then I will share it with you guys
Does the Walrus oil need more than one coat and does it last. I have 6 boxes to finish and want something quick and easy but don't want it to come back in a few months and bite me.
Walrus oil I usually put 2-3 coats 24 hours apart. However, all oil finishes needs an other coat every year or so as it starts to look dull. If you want good looking finish that it only takes one coat and done I will suggest getting old master gel polyurethane in clear satin. Really easy to apply, rub on with a cloth, let sit for 1 minute and wipe off. Perfect results every time. Don’t buy on Amazon as I got a can and was old. Buy directly from their website or from intarsia website
The largest issue I have is locating customers to buy my boxes. Maybe you could offer some suggestions on types of venues to sell them. Right now, I have over 50 Shaker Stye Oval Boxes that need selling. Etsy turned out to be a bust as there are far too many competitors. Thanks!
Hi Gary, wish I could help but I don’t sell any of my stuff. However I am planning on start selling in 2024. Me personally I will have my own website and sell . That way you don’t lose 30% like on websites like Etsy
My husband has as a hobby enjoyed woodworking for 50 years. Just a precaution to you dont wear long sleeves around sny of the equipment better safe than sorry. He knows a fellow who lost a finger on a tablesaw because he was wearing a coat, sleeve got caught in the blade. My husband worked in the printing industry for 40 years he was told the first day he shouldnt wear rings or long sleeves in this industry. He didnt and it probably prevented him from getting hurt on the equipment, just like the equipment in a wood shop.
I love to learn with you how to make beautiful boxes. You show the mistakes and that is very, very important.
Really like this design. Was not sure I liked the proud bottom, but after it was done, it does add to the look
Glad you like it

That is a very nice looking box Skylar! Another great tutorial!
Thank you so much Mike
thats beautiful
Love your work and especially your presentation! Thanks for your videos. They're very helpful.
Great idea. I'm making one. I'll be happy if it comes out half as good as your's.

That was amazing

Very nicely done! Thanks for the inspiration. Stay safe.
Thanks, you too!

Thank you!
You're welcome!
Amazing work. I think I will try and make that if you don’t mind me using your pattern 😊
Please do! Send me a photo when is all done! Would love to see it
@@woodworkingwithSkyler yes ma’am I will definitely do that
Wonderful, That box turned out great. Can you pm the laser file you used to cut all those diamonds?
I bought the file from etsy. However, was not a good file. Planning on making my own then will share with you guys
Very nicely done!!
Thank you very much!

I love making the leaf boxes. One of my favorites! I just added the link to tape dispenser in the description of video
That tape dispenser is brilliant, where did you get it from please?
Ooh, I've been waiting on this one!
My Creality 40w showed up about 20 minutes ago.
Time to light my house on fire.
Be careful with that one! That is a very powerful laser
This box, like your others, is beautiful!

That makes sense. I was a little puzzled why the grain didn’t match perfectly. Thank you.

@@woodworkingwithSkyler Thanks SO much for the feedback!! She looked at the mobile SawStop at Woodcraft, and cringed at the cost 😆
What a beautiful project. Would you by chance be willing to share your laser cut file for all the small diamonds?
The file I purchased from Etsy. However it was not a perfect cut as the diamond was not a perfect cut. I will work on making my own design, then I will share it with you guys
Awesome
Thank you
Hi. After you glued the parts on the top like that, did you cut the top with your mitre, table saw or laser? Great work, btw!
? 🤣 She's probably going to tell you to finish watching the video...where she's showing you how she cut it 🤣
:) I cut it on table saw but wrapped it on blue tape so it wont shatter
:)
Sky, great video. Could you perhaps link your magnetic digital angle please.
Yes. I will add it now:)
I love the look of the lid. Do you know where a person could buy those laser cut shapes. Buying a laser is out of my league.
I am sorry, I don’t. However there are decent laser you could get for around 300$
wow I didn't know that. You know Christmas is just around the corner. I should look into buying one.@@woodworkingwithSkyler

I thought you used your router for cutting all of your box miter joints, what happened?
Many don’t have a router table, wanted to make it accessible to most

Love the devil's eye on the lid, were you Amish in another life?

If you keep wearing that jacket....I'm not watching anymore
