Mistakes are our best teachers, i started @ 12 yo learning finish carpentry in Mexico, and still make mistakes :)
I love what you do, please keep going!
Hi Skyler, you explained the process to make the boxes very well. It is also good that you explain your mistakes that makes everyone aware of what to be careful of. The choices of wood and the design were a good match to make beautiful boxes. Thank you for the video looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Glad you enjoyed it!
When you look at a daisy you’re at awe at its beauty. And yet individual pedals are not the same size. Sometimes Symmetry is boring and predictable. Mistakes such as this is the mutation that leads into new avenues of innovation and creativity. Good job. Thank you 😊
Wow! You outdid yourself on these!! Absolutely beautiful!❤
Thank you
I have a 2 terriers, a Scottish and a West Highland White. The plaid pattern on the box makes it a nice box for treats. I may make several of these as gifts for other Scottish, Westie, and Cairn terriers owners.
Thank you for sharing. And, the explanation of the mistake helps me avoid making the same error (although I probably will anyway).
That's a great idea! Glad you enjoyed the video
Хорошая работа ❤
Great Vid!!!! Love the boxes! You are so Beautiful too!!!!❤❤
Great video, you give weekend woodworkers like myself ideas and inspiration
Thank you. So glad you liked it
they all look great. Not everyone would have noticed that it was not a perfect wrap. I have done the same thing. worked on a project all day and it does not turn out like I wanted and made me feel like I wasted the entire day but it was a good learning experience. They are beautiful. I love the color combinations.
Thank you so much for your encouragement
@@woodworkingwithSkyler you encourage me
You are such an amazing woman. Those boxes are beautiful, and just looking at them, you can tell that you put a lot of care and work into them. Great job, and thank you for the detailed information.
Thank you. I really appreciate it
Great job illustrating your process. And I think the “mistake” box is the best of the bunch! The asymmetry nicely offsets the symmetrical inlays themselves. Symmetry can be overdone.
Really good idea on the design. I have lots of small thin scrap that I've been saving that would make something like this. Great demo and explaining your mistakes.
Thats why they say "measure twice ,cut once"in woodworking......to not mess up..... anyways those are cute little boxes and your persistence is paid .off......cool build and keep on building daisy ....love tour videos very informative
I'm retired now but all thru my working career when I messed up I said to myself "That's one more mistake I will never make again" So you see as you mess up, you become more aware of the consequences of your actions and thus become smoother , more accurate and make far fewer mistakes. And around age 45 or so work life becomes a breeze.
That is really cool! Very good explanation! Even your screwups! Lol
Thanks, possibilities are endless, even with angles!
You make very good videos and explain things very well. Thanks for all you time and showing some of your mistakes helps us all.
Very niiice, beautiful boxes, one of the new boxes at the end of the video had a slight angle on the top of the box an on the lid, just wondering what you used on them table saw or router also ? Thank you
Very handsome boxes! Gives me some ideas for using some of the "offcuts" from other projects. Been wondering what I could do with them! Thanks.
You are welcome
My favorite so far, amazing Lady ! I gotta try this one. Thanks for sharing your talent. 👍
I love the way you share your mistakes. Good job
Thank you!
Those came out great.. You should be named the box queen on the tubes.. Keep making them because I really enjoy watching all the different boxes you come up with.
Thank you
I am not going to lie. I was frustrated with this one
Excellent video, highly informative. Mistakes don't matter while showing the principles of your method. Keep them coming!
Thanks, will do!
Beautiful so is your work, it looks so easy I just love it ❤
love the boxes
Thanks
It's fun to see what you come up with next! Such creativity! Your skills continue to get better and better with each project. Congrats on your new store.
Thank you so much!
Queen of boxes! Great job Miss Sky!
Thank you 🤗
Awesome boxes. Wish you all the best with your store- l think you will do great!
Thank you Scott
Yes WOW thats very nice the inlay how to very niiice and the fact that you shared your mistakes won me over to your channel. Going to try my first box soon. Thank you for this. By the way, beautiful boxes !
Welcome aboard! And thank you
I just found your channel and am glad I did. Good stuff! Thanks for showing your mistakes... that earned a like and subscribe. :) I actually quite like the randomness of the line pattern in the "screwed up" box... it's not really screwed up at all! Beautiful work!
A great inspiration to start my own project.
Beautiful box, I’m sure it is.
I’m still working on the Birdmouth boxes. Now I have to do this one. I better get a move on.
:)
I'm very impressed with the complexity of the design from such simple pieces. Nice work! I have to confess that I don't think I could make those tiny ⅛" inlay strips. Are you cutting them on your table saw? I'd be terrified!
Sky, your primary wood looks a lot more like mahogany than cedar.
Very nice presentation and the final product is amazing.
Thank you Charles
great stuff
They are very attractive. That's a good practical finish that I might try.
Thank you
Great job of the box it is really nice
Great job. Thank you 😊
Skyler, just an off-topic comment. It seems you got your Sawstop only weeks ago. I can't help but notice it's appearance in your video. It does not look like a new table saw and that's a good thing! No one could ever accuse you of not using your tools. There is saw dust all over the cast iron, the fence, the extension wing and your outfeed table. Your fence has scratches and scars. I think it's awesome and applaud you for putting the table saw and all your tools through the paces. Keep it up!
:) thank you. I been using it every day ( 8+ hours each day). It’s a tool and intend to use it as a tool. Not afraid of getting it dirty or scratched…. I just don’t want it to cut my finger off!
nice work
Still a nice job
You just keep coming up with great projects .Please keep it up. Julien
Thanks Julien
I thing I’m falling in love with you ! I know you married kidding you are in inspiration to things I want to do
GREAT presentation and design. Thanks much for taking the time to make this video. It is most helpful. You and your videos are such an inspiration to so many (me included!) and gives us the confidence to try projects we might not have done without your explanations. P.S…I share your same passion…photography(Nikon). I viewed many of those videos too!! Thanks for all you do.
I love this video, very good information and I am happy for you on your new website...
Can't wait to see it....
Thanks so much! I been putting it off. Nervous that it’s going to be a failure
How do you cut the 1/8 by 3/16th strips? I would be afraid to cut them on the table saw. I love your videos!
This is what I use and it's great! ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=woodpeckers+thin+rip+guide

Another great job.
Thanks again!
Love your work so much!❤
Thank you so much!
Every body makes mistakes, it still looks good
Great job! I love the inlays!
Thanks so much!
What is the thickness of the box material? You are using. 2 1/2 x 23 x ? Beautiful work, by the way. Love your channel.
1/2 in
Thank you.
Fantastic design as always. Some really useful tips here, again, as usual. I imagine a lot of your creative process comes from your photography background (I have not yet checked out that channel). I would love to learn more about your creative process or your inspiration process. I love your content. I always learn something and am always inspired. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. I got inspired by a gift warping paper pattern for this one. I saw the pattern and thought: I could make this from wood
@woodworkingwithSkyler Very cool. When I first saw the design, I thought you did it like a cutting board, all the way through. I love the inlay process. I can't wait to try it!
Good morning
Good work but
I am also carpenter
Our same wood work
If I were shortening my 5" sides to 4" after the inlays, I would call it a "design change", not a mistake:)
Hi, Beautiful Boxes, Just curious though, how did you make the 1/8 x 1/8 inserts?
I first resaw some lumber to a bit over 1/8 in. Then I took it to drum sander to get it to 1/8. Then cut strips on table saw using zero clearance tape. You can also buy lumber in 1/8 in thickness, I put some in the description of video
Thank you for replying!! Beautiful box I love it. @@woodworkingwithSkyler
I’m just getting to the point of being good enough to sell my creations too. Where/ how did you set up your website?
I have no computer skills so I used Squarespace. My website is very basic but was easy to create
Don't worry about the couple of hiccups. You made a beautiful project. Most people (including me) would find it very difficult and labor intensive. Good job love.
Thank you so much!
You might have made a mistake but it still looks a great job. John 🇬🇧
Thank you
the best alwys make mistequess i would be glade to be able to do half what you do sorry forbmy englis
The funny thing is the consistent wardrobe she chooses for every video. I can't think of reason why?..🙄😂🙄😂🙄😂🙄😂
You can't?? Well to get you to watch!! 😂
Nice project. mind if I steal it from you?
Please do

As you are building a woodworking community, have you considered starting a Discord channel? Your subscribers can post their efforts and talk amongst themselves. You can inform us of upcoming videos etc.
I don’t know how to do that. But I did start a Facebook private group
@@woodworkingwithSkyler I don’t know much about this stuff but another RUclips channel started a discord channel some years ago and it seems to have become popular. You might know him , Allan Walls. - does macro photography
@@mondujar279 I love Alan. Learn a lot from him and I used his plan to make my own macro diffuser. Also learned about using microscopes lenses for macro. He shoots a lot of dead bugs
@@woodworkingwithSkyler Yes I have followed him for years also. Have made a macro rig and use various lenses from old enlarger lenses to microscope. Mainly for insects but I haven’t done it for a while because I am busy with woodworking.
Did you just make something!
This is exactly what I needed, props to you. Yes, it does need a ton of work to be a full “Woodworking Bible”, but Woody Hyezmar’s book is still in draft status and available for anyone interested in go’ogling the latest edition.
Cove bit
Yes! That’s it! I couldn’t think of the name of it. Thank you
@woodworkingwithSkyler when your website is up and running..I will support you.. you should also offer merch.. shirts.. coffee mugs..etc.. love your channel.. cabinet/ furniture maker for 40+ years
