give it a decade or two and they will reboot those franchises as soon as they think there is a market again. just look at how many times the batman franchise has been remade. you have the corny live action batman from the 1940s, the movie series from the 1990s, the animated cartoons from the 1990s, the dark knight trilogy, etc.. same thing happened with X-Men, Star Trek, and many others.
big franchises don't die, they just go into hibernation for a few years until a new director/studio wants to try again.

We had a woman present the pre-ANZAC day speech at my daughters school today.
ANZAC day in australia is specifically about the men who died in gallipoli during World War I.
The first 3 minutes of a 4 minute speech was about women in the army in the 80s and how they aren't allowed to be in combat situations even though, and i quote, "women can do all the things men do in the army". She spoke about how women would need to leave the army if they fell pregnant. Regardless of validity of any of what she said is, ANZAC day is not the vehicle to use for gender politics to a primary school with kids aged 6-12.
This is essentially what Disney is doing. Using the wrong vehicle to spread a message. It's messed up.

    11:18
The question to ask him here is a simple one "Why is it important to have a diverse cast?"
Why does it matter? He'll respond with "to identify with the characters we need representation."
You then respond with "so you're saying minorities cannot identify with characters that don't look like them?"
Because that's what the source of this is on the face of it - it isn't the actual reality but that's an aside - the point that needs t obe made is that these people are saying "I can only identify if I see someone like me on screen." and to do it to as big an audience as possible while saying you are the opposite. "doesn't matter to me what they look like, white black blue yellow green pink it doesn't matter, it's the person that's important not what they look like, you can identify with John MacLane equally as much as you can Mike Lowrey or Ip Man. If the character is black or a woman and they are doing amazing heroic things, that speaks for itself. If they do struggle against discrimination, that needs to be center to the story and be told in a good way, narrative wise, like Mulan, or The Hunchback of Notre Dame, or some episodes of Avatar The Last Airbender.

Strong Female Characters always existed, not as many as male to be fair but they were there. They just get badly writen in the current time.
One of my favorite examples for a strong female character is to this day Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Carter from Stargate SG-1/Atlantis. This woman kicked ass and was inteligent without being a power trip. One of the best moments was when she had to admit that she needed help from Ba'al to read an Alien inscribtion while he was riding his superiority complex. She wasnt above admiting she needed help but she also punched him in the face afterwards to signal that she doesnt take shit from him.
This is not about female or male - this is about well writen or not. And suprise suprise a lot of those woke activists dont know shit about character writing.

These people are unpleasant to be around because it feels like you can never tell a joke and are constantly walking on egg shells. Then companies like Disney go out of their way to cater their movies to people like him, and what it results in is just an unpleasant movie trying to cater to unpleasant people. Largely speaking the vast majority of people don't have an issue with diversity or inclusion. What they have a problem with is when these elements are put at the forefront of entertainment, instead of simply telling a good story, or making a fun game.

Look at 2000s Static Shock cartoon - literally had an episode where titular Black protag and his White BFF got kidnapped and their fathers went to look for kids... But White Father was a racist... Not a caricature of one... A reasonable person with flaws. Flaws that didn't came out of nowhere - his world view became like that because for years he was social worker in ghetto and was dissapointed again and again by deeds of local black people. And MC's Black Father calls him out on it, reminds that every person is different and they MUST put their prejudices aside and work TOGETHER to find their sons and just BE BETTER for the sake of their sons even if their life experiences make it hard for them.
And it wasn't presented like preaching - it was exactly presented like one parent talking to the other. Heck, racist White Father was specifically presented as a very decent person aside for his flaw not as a BAD person. Just a man who had actual reasons to have a worldview he had and reflected on his actions by the end of episode deciding to be better for the sake of his son.
You can even argue that moral of the story was not just "Racism is bad" but "Parents have to try to better themselves for the sake of their kids" using "Racism" as the example of a "flaw" one can have.

In music, I love picking out the different instruments, Dog fights in songs especially, the closest rock gets to this is dueling guitar solos.

They are doing it openly cause right now they are operating on the basis of _"Yeah, we own these properties now and what are you gonna do about it?!"_ Because they want to *DESTROY* modern mythos and entertainment - they are dedicated to it. Asmon says over and over again that these actors, producers and whatnot kept running their mouth and that's why these movies flopped and the management shoud've kept them in check - which is a part of it, but how could they do that, if the decision makers, the CEOs and other higher-ups didn't allow it?! Answer is they did, it's always a top-down decision.

I need one of these influencers to point out the simple fact that 50% or more Male gamers when playing an MMO create an attractive female character rather than someone that "represents" them. If we have to stare at something for hours at a time, it might as well be appeasing. Gamers DO NOT CARE about representation we just want something fun to look at. Whether it's Kratos godlike physique and tattoos or 2B's greatest assets. We DON'T care about seeing ourselves in games as long as the main character is good looking or well written. Like everyone says, gaming is an ESCAPE. The last thing I wanna see in a fantasy world (as much as I love myself) is myself or being reminded about the real world.

The issue is companies have spent to much tike changing characters to make films more diverse, making to many movie in general and then making them for the purpose of checkijg boxs rather than telling a good story. You can have diverse films and tv. Star trek one of the most successful science fiction IPs all time made a name for its self for its diversity at one of the most divisive times in american history, but the story telling was phenomenal. And there was something in the show for everyone. The fallout tv show had a female lead and a black secondary character. The show was raved about because they stuck to the lore and did a good job with the story telling. The halo tv show was panned because they told the people making it to not play the games. They changed characters they focused on story telling with some box checked that made absolutely not sense and completely changed the lore. The second season was much hetter because they started to push the characters development and story back to what the games were about. Sadly they screwed up way to had out of the gate that i dont think they will continue it. Disney race swapped the little mermaid when they didnt need to to check a box. When they could have done a live action princess and the frog movie which ill add was a great animated film and featured a massively diverse portrayal of characters and had political undertones. But it was a good film.

  • @robustbottlecap
    @robustbottlecap 2 месяца назад +2

Here's the thing. Representation is a good thing. But again, it's a momentarily happy impulse and that's it.
Fast & Furious 6, the last Chris Pine led Star Trek had Indonesian representation in it. Indonesians were riled up for a moment, but that's it. At the end of the day, it's about what the movie brings.
That's why Stuber wasn't really quite popular to Indonesians, even though it has an Indonesian actor as the villain. It's about the movie itself at the end of the day.

Identity politics doesn’t attract mainstream audiences. If you divide your audience don’t expect your audience to grow. If you cater for one group, especially if it is a niche, don’t expect a mainstream success. If in addition to this agenda pandering you suffer from a serious lack of creativity, talent and passion, you should not be surprised if a lukewarm reception is the best you can expect and in general you are pushing commercial AND creative flops. If you have an agenda, fine, if you want to target a niche audience, fine, but do so with new material, do so with creative storytelling. Create NEW epic heroes and tales, but if you fail don’t blame the audience and (grassroots) critics. In a way the customer is always right and customers, in general as a mainstream audience, are rejecting the identity agenda driven movies and stories. The people who push this are suffering from an extreme case of denial. It is a culture war, don’t be fooled. It is not a matter of taste if it is structural. There are always flops, but this is not what is happening in the entertainment business right now.

Good story & entertainment matters most but if the woke messaging, identity politics, forced diversity, representation, gender politics & mary sue is there, thats enough to stop watching as well.

The thing about "political breasts" is that in today's insanity driven environment, they kind of are, you've seen the IGN france meltdown over Eve from Stellar Blade, it is not an isolated issue, it is an ideological objection to female beauty, as stupid as that sounds.

The lady was completely imagining her case about the Barbie movie. Acting like it was a flop, "abomination," etc. when it was very well received and record-breaking box office sales.
Piers is also completely imagining it being about bashing men and "only women things are good." That didn't happen. It's like he anticipated that happening and decided it's reality

I'd hardly call 859 mil a bust, no Marvel movie is gonna hit over a Billion anymore. It's franchise fatigue and the general audience basically being done with superhero genre in general.

    • @habama1077
      @habama1077 3 месяца назад +2

@@ChrisDeebo We don't really know the numbers, but 859 mil is aboslutely not that great a number, when we consider how much the cinemas take, and the fact the actual cost of the movie nowadays is about twice its budget (marketing and all that).
Estimates put profit at 260 mil, while 170 mil of that is from streaming. Money that Disney gets to decide how to attribute, as the whole system is theirs. So, anywhere between 90 and 260 million dollars. Not terrible, but not a milestone either.
Compared to previous years' movies, it absolutely underperformed, and that is the best outcome from that year. It's not a good look.

Disney has a problem hiring people for their actual qualifications in terms of skill and knowledge, and instead they prioritise people’s identity.
If you want a good movie, hire people who make good movies and ALSO know and love the source material.
Disney instead prioritise the person who will get them the most DEI, when that should be a secondary consideration.

Stories are about challenges that force characters to make decisions. Decisions reveal who a character is. The tougher the decision, and the more novel their answer is, the better the character. This applies no matter what demographic the character belongs to. But, we're lucky to see a lot of these new characters make any decisions at all and if they are forced to make one, more often than not it's a brain dead easy one to make or they just shrug until something happens to make the challenge go away. All the while you're being TOLD either by some side character, the character themselves, or marketing just how awesome they are.

The main issue is the writers aren't smart enough to tell the story or make a point in a non-contrived way. A good writer well look at Mike Pondsmith the writer for Cyberpunk, he doesn't beat you over the head with what is right or wrong he merely makes and shows you arguments and allows you to make choices and decide for yourself what right and wrong is, he isn't lecturing you on his beliefs or belittling your intelligence.

Asmon is absolutely wrong about a character's "tier" mattering. What really matters is making them interesting and compelling. I used to collect Marvel comics and even I barely knew of them.

Exactly, also on a more basic note, people have to start somewhere. It is not like (especially if you aren't from America) your parents would be so into comic characters and be like "wow, now I am gonna watch Iron Man with my child". Sure there were the comics, but I am sure for the majority it just looked like a cool film / series first, and only after watching it they liked the characters.
When the first MCU Iron Man film was released, I had no idea who he was.Iirc there was like one episode in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon where he appeared for like 5min, that was my Iron Man knowledge.

Nostalgia may have even been a slight deterrent due to how terrible a lot of older Marvel films had been, vexing certain people from seeing later films.

BG3 has some woke narratives, but it does not demand that players abide by them. Take the arguably "political" narrative af the tiefling migrant refugees (if one wants to draw real world parallels, one can)... in a truly woke game there is no way the players would allowed to annihilate them. As for the romancing aspect of the gameplay, that is also entirely up to player preference and tastes. Woke games force narratives devoid of player choice.
