Thank you, after surgery my mum was on feeding tube for 2 months , now she finally able to eat puree, she have to eat puree because the flap to cover wind pipe and food pipe is weak so no liquids allowed as it will go into windpipe so now everything has to be puree
I just found your channel and it's so informational, I have a 6mos old baby girl and I just started making her own baby food. My MIL gave us this baby bullet thingy and its really helpful. Now I can make puree baby food that is very nutritious for my baby (no more buying those little jars). Now I have a question, how long can a frozen baby food stay at a room temperature? The reason I ask is that, there are times that we travel to places and of course, I bring some food with me, so i'm thinking, how long it is still safe to eat? thank you much.
Hi! Baby Food Systems can be very convenient, I agree :-) To reply to your question: a frozen food can stay at room temperature for 2/3 hours before starting creating harmful bacteria. I used to fly oversea with both my babies and, of course, I needed to feed them during the travel (18 hours total). The safest way is to place the frozen baby food in a insulated container (there are so many small bags available, you can pick the size you like) so that it will slowly thaw like in the refrigerator, that increasing its safe life time. If you need to feed your baby right away during the trip you can also thaw the food completely at home and place it in an insulated bag with an ice pack to keep it refrigerated. When needed you will only need to warm it up (on the plane I asked for a cup of hot water that I used to pour in the insulated bag in place of the ice pack, a kind of "warm bath" for the food. I hope it helps!! Ciao, b
BuonaPappa Thankyou for the details in your answer! I’ll be flying to Europe with a 7 month old and needed to know how to preserve my homemade baby food so Thankyou!!! Officially subscribed!
+Afro Mío Hi! Thank you :- ) I would say no. Even if the food is in a jar with the lid, as soon as the temperature will get warmer than 40F bacteria that might have been already present in the food will start multiplying. It's a no no :-) Thank you for watching BuonaPappa!!! ciao, b
How do you travel with ur homemade baby food? For example you have the baby food in the refrigerator and put the container in ur bag? How long can that be out for? Or how do you do it..
JasFamily Hi! That's a very good question and I should work on a video about it ;-) The first thing to know if for how long you are going out. Is it only few hours or it is a long trip (like when I fly to Italy...19 hours total). If it is only few hours you can prepare the baby food, warm it up a bit more than usual and put it in a small thermos so that it will be warm or room temperature when you will offer it to your baby. Fresh fruit: I cut it in small pieces or make a puree and store it in small containers. I put on top of the containers an ice pack to keep them cold. I usually travel with an insulated thermal lunch bag (I have different sizes pending how long the trip will be and how much food I will need), so that both cold and hot food will keep the temperature. One tip for a long distance flight with baby food. I freeze my baby food in small container and I place the frozen containers in my bag. By the time I will need them (8/9 hours later) they will be naturally thawed. At that point I will warm them up in the best way I will find: either asking to use a microwave in a bar/cafe' at the airport or asking for a big cup/glass half filled with hot water and dipping my baby food container for few minutes in the hot water (if you are on a plane that's a good way to warm up baby food). I hope I was helpful. Let me know if you have any questions!! ciao, b
Hi! yes, you can. I would suggest to serve the baby food within 2 days from when you made it. in this case baby formula is an ingredient used to thin the baby food. Thank you for watching!! ciao, b
can i thaw different purees cubes and mixed them together? 1 small container is not enough for my baby and sometimes there's not enough cubes of the same type. for example i thawed today salmon+sweet potato and salmon+green beans. is it ok?
Hello, my baby loved the carrots I made him when they were first pureed, but after thawing them (30 seconds in microwave for a single cube), he won't eat them. The consistency is not the same. Do you have any tips for maintaining that smooth consistency after frozen and then thawed?
+kewluae Hi! that's so sweet of you, thanks!! yes, you can cook several vegetables and freeze them separately. Thaw them and mix them in you baby food without any problem. The only advice is not to freeze them again if you have any leftovers. As they were already cooked and than frozen, you cannot freeze them twice. Sure, you can mix roasted butternut squash with other good seasonal veggies or fruit. What about cauliflowers? or apples? pears? zucchini? celery roots? those are just few options. My suggestion is to use any seasonal and organic fruit/veggie you can find locally. Thank you so much for watching!! ciao, b
Erlinda Mikal WOW!! 11 days!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS! well, you still have some time before starting preparing some baby food ;-) Enjoy the very first months, so precious, exciting and tiring ;-) Thank you for watching BuonaPappa and let me know if you have any questions. Ciao, b
Hi! you can place the baby food in the refrigerator in order to thaw it and than, right before serving it, you can reheat it either on the stove or in the microwave, so that your baby will enjoy it lightly warm. I liked to serve lightly warm baby food to my little ones, the same temperature of breastmilk. Let me know should you have any more questions! ciao!! b
Hi! yes, steaming is another way of thawing the food. My only suggestions: check that the food is not in contact with the water, only the steam reaches the food (otherwise the good nutrients will go away in the water) + steam on low heat for a gentle steaming, you don't want to cook the food. Ciao!!! b
When using the submersion technique...why did you put the cubes in the plastic container and then in a sandwich bag? Can you not just submerge the container without the ziplock bag? Thank you!
good question! in my case I was not sure that the plastic container lid would hold, so I simply placed it in a ziplock bag. if your plastic container is water proof (mine was not), simply skip the ziplock. Thank you for asking and thank you for watching BuonaPappa!! b
Hi! I know that the microwave topic has opposite feelings. Through the years I've been reading and looking for studies and researches on it and I ended up with the conclusion that if properly used (I only use glass or ceramic containers) it's not harmful. Thank you so much for watching!! ciao, b
Hi! The general recommendation is to start introducing solid foods in your baby's diet at around 6 months, but some babies just need a bit more time. I would suggest not to worry and maybe to try again in a week or two. Check out this post to see if your baby seems ready to start with solids. www.buonapappa.net/introducing-solid-foods/ Let me know should you have any question! ciao, b
Sure, almost every baby food can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days in an air tight container. I usually suggest to enjoy fish/meat/eggs within two days, the vegetable puree can last three days without any problem. I hope I was helpful!! thanks for watching!! barbara
on the flames? well, if the jar was flame resistant, that's another option for thawing food. My only comment is that if the flames are too hot, the food will cook instead of thawing. Let me know should you have any more questions! ciao, b
kro gvr Hi! my first choice for baby food containers is glass. But glass is more expensive than plastic and a lot of families have to stay in within a budget. There are good quality plastic containers on the market (BPA free, of course). All depends what you are going to do with the container: in the microwave I only use glass or ceramic. In the freezer glass is best, but plastic too is acceptable. If you just need to keep the food in the refrigerator for 1/2 days, a good plastic container with a lid can be fine. Ciao! b
kro gvr Hi! yes. I know there are a lot of common doubts about using the microwave for cooking but all the recent researches demonstrate that cooking with the microwave is not only safe, but healthy as it preserves the nutritional value of food. Could you please advise how to safely thaw the frozen raw meat and raw fish pieces?
Can we thaw freez food in a hot water????
Yes, that's one way to thaw food :-)
Is tomato safe to eat for 6 months baby?
I would introduce tomatoes starting from 10 months of age due to their acidity that might cause diaper rash or eczema in some babies. Ciao! b
