    I’m old enough to remember when Darlington built a stadium, which ended up bankrupting them

    Jasper Carrott's a lifelong Birmingham City fan. He used to do a routine about watching them play at home. "I turned to the bloke next to me and called out "Oi!"" I thought Charlton Athletic might make the list. The Valley is a huge stadium and used to have a capacity of over 60,000. In some parts of the country if one's team is having a nightmare season there are other teams to watch. Lancashire is one example. Has anyone ever met an MK Dons fan?

    You might already be on it, Ben, but video idea - with fixtures released today, compare each teams opening 5/10 games and rank who has it easy/hard, or maybe predict how the early table might shape up?

    1 in 5,000 in the area follow them .
    Need a new ground a all seater 3k an it would be filled should they allow 1k away fans boost the numbers

    Interesting insight into how football is going. Ridiculous wages and transfer fees adding to that,what used to be working man's game is now a corporate meeting place. How many people can now afford the entrance cost. I no longer put money in the big clubs pockets. I go to my local team. A better game with not the gamesmanship of the so called professionals.

    Stoke's home form has been so bad over the last couple of seasons that it's driven away a lot of fans, and the ground always looks half empty. Although, there were 28,000 there for the last game of the season.
    Big respect to Sunderland, though. To get regular attendances of over 40,000 is mindblowing, especially when you consider how poor the team has been over the past few seasons. Sheff. Wed is also very impressive.

    The common thread with all of these clubs is that they're in decline/ had a poor season or seasons...given a bit of success the crowds will come back and there is potential to fill them out. I can remember Burnley in their darkest days getting gates of just over 2,000 in Division 4. Wolves on their 1st to 4th Division slide dipped to 2,000 gates. Sheff Utd in Division 4 got 40% capacity-about 12,000. Wigan and MK are the only two likely to have spare seats even in the top two Divisions.

    • @eightw5783
      @eightw5783 День назад

      You're comparison is unbalanced since when were clubs in div 4 when it existed attendances all round were lower and capacities were higher since it was pre all seater stadiums.
