I’ve been to an MLS match and I’ve been watching the copamerica and I have plans to see matches in Europe this summer. I worked on building the main structure in 1998/1999. The foundations with holding down bolts were cast for the 4th stand but they had no money at the time for the steelwork.

Oxford fans rally, and I’ll say something like what I said under Sam’s video: it’s probably not the worst stadium by any metric, but has occasionally felt like it, fortunately we’ll probably be out of there in a few years - the smell is sewage by the way and it is one of the worst parts but not appalling. I’m overjoyed that we’ve had a promotion and hopefully it propels the stability and attractiveness for players. Edit: suggestions for new ground, we’re tired of being made fun of on twitter so we need five stands, that’ll show em. I do genuinely agree with transport links though, transport to Kassam is bogus.

Not to toot our own pre-match tuba but St. Mary's has that prefect balance between a much-needed modern ground and feeling just as much like our home as the Dell did

Easy transportation connections, proximity to fans, and four stands are a must. You don't want your stadium so far from your own supporters. But one thing I'd say is particularly important is making sure it's got a little character and isn't just a dull generic modern stadium.
I like how all your vlogs make me feel concern for the welfare of the various clubs involved but also make me laugh at how stupid their situations usually are. It can't be easy to walk the thin line between respect and ridicule but somehow you do it every time. Kudos.

A pivotal addition would be the UK’s largest triangular shaped jumbotron in place of the 4th stand. Along with a live Ox mascot named Trinity who grazes pitchside. Finally, an attached pub beneath the jumbotron that is named “The Pythagorean & Theorem”
As an Oxford United fan, to say that about the atmosphere not being on top of it, I’d recommend coming to a game. Where loud & proud. I’m glad we’ve been approved for the new stadium plans. It’s going to be so much easier getting to the new stadium

Nieve, you are a very silly person and we love it. I love the off angle views of the stadium and the understated review of it: "Eh, not too bad, but not great either". I think for the 4th stand it should a '4th wall' where people turn to the camera and say something dramatic.
When I was at uni, I lived in Bournemouth and at the time their stadium had 3 stands. I think it was affectionally known as "The Toblerone" at the time. The two clubs are in very different positions nowadays though!
Your funny and entertaining Nieve. I like the cut of your jib. Also, the acoustics have to be scientifically arranged so that the atmosphere is as intimidating as possible. Oxford United seem to have done the exact opposite of that! Oh well.
You commented on the smell; that would be the sewage works just opposite. You add that smell with the wind that gets tunnelled through the stadium on account of its missing stand, you've got yourself a bad time.

I worked last year on the business park next the ground. I couldn't believe how far out of town it is. There are plans to build a station nearby for the Science Park....too late for the club as the plans to move next to Oxford Parkway station look promising.
Oxford it self is a run down and specially where the football stadium is, it’s only the colleges in the centre of Oxford that bring the tourists it’s an expensive place to live poor roads and a council that don’t want to listen to what business owners around Oxford and want and need,too many roads shut to the traffic,it’s one big traffic jam. Where they want to move the stadium is a better area but it’s all ready a bad traffic jam
Fun fact: the singer of Lady In Red, Chris de Burgh, is from Oxfordshire and is a huge fan of the U’s. So Nieve was spot on with the musical choice. Plus apparently he was also my biological father. So this hits on many levels. This was all according to my mum. She’s dead now, so I can’t ask her if any of this is true.
My only desire for a new stadium would be no open corners for wind and rain to get in. Wimbledon Centre Court roof would also be a snazzy addition. And extra space around the perimeter of the pitch for players to launch Delap-style long throws. Maybe that's enough.
Couple of other things. Maybe have a minimum seating requirement. Prem 15,000, Champ 12,500, L1, 8,000 and L2 5,000. All stadiums should be all seater with no standing only stands.
What happened to the requirement the Football League used to have for grounds to have at least 6,000 seats? The one that caused Barnet problems when they were at Underhill.
Perhaps they need to look a further away from the 'dreaming spires'. How about a new ground shared with their nearest neighbour Reading? Thames Valley Royals? I'm sure no one has proposed such a sensible arrangement before :)
As a Canadian who's local staduim is BMO field in Toronto. A stadium needs a standing supporters section at kne end with rails (we have seats in ours but everyone just stands on them, very dangerous when its wet) Need fan areas with space heaters for fanse to quickly warm up their hands during those baltic october or march matches. Believe they run out of money, and could only afford to finish three stands when they restarted construction. I also believe the foundation of the fourth stand is still there and would have been completed when they got to the prem. With a lick of paint, it wouldn't be that bad of a stadium, and I think the wind in the three stands does give them a unique advantage! Obviously nothing will happen now with a new stadium on the way! Great video!
I'm from Oxford, this stadium is quite a shame and hopefully we can move to the Kidlington triangle stadium which has much better transport links. Hopefully it can be made even bigger if we can prove ourselves in the championship this season and stay up

please make a video about the Welsh premier league teams in the qualifiers for Europe this summer. despite the success of the Welsh national team in recent years, the league is still ignored and underfunded, and it is dominated by one team (who are in England ffs)

What's the point of a fourth stand when the club barely sells out? It'll be interesting how much the attendances will rise though in the Championship which is crazy to imagine Oxford in there.
Craven Cottage was perfect because it used to have a view of The Thames. Back in the 70's, when I first went there you could even paddle in the river at the back of the stand if/when the game got boring. Sadly, the new monstrosity of a stand - still not fully opened after two years - blocks all the view of the river. So you're stuck watching the football, no matter how bad it gets.
I wouldn't risk getting in it but it's far cleaner than was the case 50+ years ago,to say nothing of the state of it in the middle of the 19th Century that gave rise to the episode called the Big Stink and the commissioning of the then-revolutionary Bazalguette-designed London-widesewerage system.
Build the worlds biggest fan! Then on hot days it can keep the players cool! People can then sing "The biggest fan, the BIGGEST FAN! Where Oxford United we have the biggest fan!"
I'm a Forest Green fan, we have a field above our ground that used to have sheep in it until the last couple of seasons where they were replaced with a horse, which on occasion would run from side to side when games were being played...I'd like to think it was following the action but that might be pushing it a bit...at times the watching horse was more entertaining than the football.
I would like areas where you can go and chat with fans after the game or during halftime where fans can get a pie and chat with other fans about football or the club
We used to do just that back in the day, it was called the Supporters Club. Every Team had one and away fans had to apply pre match for tickets. You would only get one if you were a member of your own Teams Club. Back in the early 70s though, you could just turn up & enter. Remember going in the Sheff Wednesday Supp' Club [it was massive] and entering the Yard of Ale competition ... failed miserably.

I took a detour off the M40 to take a look at the Kassam Stadium at the start of May 2006,several days before Oxford fell out of the Football League upon losing 2-3 at home to Leyton Orient amid a frantic multi-cornered last day relegation scrap as Torquay United pulled off a dramatic escape from a seemingly hopeless position just a month earlier and a batch of North West clubs like Stockport,Rochdale,Bury and Macclesfield,plus Notts County,all got themselves out of peril at the last. Rushden & Diamonds were already down,their five-year Football League adventure over. It looked a neat little ground then,with the blue glass in the main stand building,but it had that wooden fence with a car park behind it then and I'm flabbergasted that nothing's been built there since. I thought they simply couldn't afford to build a fourth stand at the time and were relieved just to get the stadium building project finished after it sat getting rained on half built for two or three winters. It looks like years of neglect has made the place tatty and shabby. It's near the notorious Blackbird Leys estate,scene of rioting in the early 90s. In a city where town v gown used to exist in different worlds,kept - deliberately,it appeared - apart by a vicious ring road hard to get across between the university and town centre and the five estates (Blackbird Leys the worst,then Barton by all accounts,Headington middling or better) surrounding it in different directions on the outskirts,perhaps the reason why transport links are so poor is to keep people away from there!
I think fans would really appreciate hot baths, Roman style, complete with hypocaust, instead of seats. Luxuriously lounging in a pool of hot water, a pint in one hand, kebab in the other. Think about it 😉
They've not been given planning permission yet, likely that'll not be granted till 2025, probably going to have to either extend the lease on Kasam or try to ground share with local neighbors.
Oh dear, in Sweden we have lots of stadiums with only three stands. And then we have NP3 Arena (or Norrporten Arena) that have 3 and half stand. It gives me the chills everytime I see it.

It took Deportivo La Coruna until 1996 to build a fourth stand and this was 51 years after they started to play at the Estadio Razor in 1944.

Shopping centre works for the 4th stand. We have a football "stadium" in a shopping mall here in Singapore, it's called "Our Tampines Hub"

Don't build a temporary stand, Gillingham did years ago, named it after Brian Moore of London Weekend TV fame, and its still there.

I worked last year on the business park next the ground. I couldn't believe how far out of town it is. There are plans to build a station nearby for the Science Park....too late for the club as the plans to move next to Oxford Parkway station look promising.
Like the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, they should get artists to come up with things to take the place of the fourth stand.
Have a opening song of "I'm still standing" or "Don't go breaking my heart" now they've promoted.
Oxford it self is a run down and specially where the football stadium is, it’s only the colleges in the centre of Oxford that bring the tourists it’s an expensive place to live poor roads and a council that don’t want to listen to what business owners around Oxford and want and need,too many roads shut to the traffic,it’s one big traffic jam. Where they want to move the stadium is a better area but it’s all ready a bad traffic jam
The one I wouldn't want to get stuck as an away fan is Priestfield (Gillingham) - no roof! must be a nightmare on a rainy night 😆
I still need to visit, just to see that construction work in all it’s glory 😂

Fun fact: the singer of Lady In Red, Chris de Burgh, is from Oxfordshire and is a huge fan of the U’s. So Nieve was spot on with the musical choice. Plus apparently he was also my biological father. So this hits on many levels. This was all according to my mum. She’s dead now, so I can’t ask her if any of this is true.

My only desire for a new stadium would be no open corners for wind and rain to get in. Wimbledon Centre Court roof would also be a snazzy addition. And extra space around the perimeter of the pitch for players to launch Delap-style long throws. Maybe that's enough.
Couple of other things. Maybe have a minimum seating requirement. Prem 15,000, Champ 12,500, L1, 8,000 and L2 5,000. All stadiums should be all seater with no standing only stands.
What happened to the requirement the Football League used to have for grounds to have at least 6,000 seats? The one that caused Barnet problems when they were at Underhill.

As a Canadian who's local staduim is BMO field in Toronto.
A stadium needs a standing supporters section at kne end with rails (we have seats in ours but everyone just stands on them, very dangerous when its wet)
Need fan areas with space heaters for fanse to quickly warm up their hands during those baltic october or march matches.
And lastly. Beer. Ever stadium needs beer. Not in cans but on tap. And it should be reasonably priced. Football and beer go togther like penutbutter and jelly.

Believe they run out of money, and could only afford to finish three stands when they restarted construction. I also believe the foundation of the fourth stand is still there and would have been completed when they got to the prem. With a lick of paint, it wouldn't be that bad of a stadium, and I think the wind in the three stands does give them a unique advantage! Obviously nothing will happen now with a new stadium on the way! Great video!

I'm from Oxford, this stadium is quite a shame and hopefully we can move to the Kidlington triangle stadium which has much better transport links. Hopefully it can be made even bigger if we can prove ourselves in the championship this season and stay up

please make a video about the Welsh premier league teams in the qualifiers for Europe this summer. despite the success of the Welsh national team in recent years, the league is still ignored and underfunded, and it is dominated by one team (who are in England ffs)

What's the point of a fourth stand when the club barely sells out? It'll be interesting how much the attendances will rise though in the Championship which is crazy to imagine Oxford in there.
Craven Cottage was perfect because it used to have a view of The Thames. Back in the 70's, when I first went there you could even paddle in the river at the back of the stand if/when the game got boring. Sadly, the new monstrosity of a stand - still not fully opened after two years - blocks all the view of the river. So you're stuck watching the football, no matter how bad it gets.
Wouldn't want to paddle or be in smelling distance of that river these days, mate.

I wouldn't risk getting in it but it's far cleaner than was the case 50+ years ago,to say nothing of the state of it in the middle of the 19th Century that gave rise to the episode called the Big Stink and the commissioning of the then-revolutionary Bazalguette-designed London-widesewerage system.
Build the worlds biggest fan! Then on hot days it can keep the players cool! People can then sing "The biggest fan, the BIGGEST FAN! Where Oxford United we have the biggest fan!"

Here in Cambridge you can see cows on the way to the match, they should do that.
I'm a Forest Green fan, we have a field above our ground that used to have sheep in it until the last couple of seasons where they were replaced with a horse, which on occasion would run from side to side when games were being played...I'd like to think it was following the action but that might be pushing it a bit...at times the watching horse was more entertaining than the football.
You used to be able to do that in Milton Keynes, trouble was they were all made of Fibre Glass.
I would like areas where you can go and chat with fans after the game or during halftime where fans can get a pie and chat with other fans about football or the club
We used to do just that back in the day, it was called the Supporters Club. Every Team had one and away fans had to apply pre match for tickets. You would only get one if you were a member of your own Teams Club. Back in the early 70s though, you could just turn up & enter. Remember going in the Sheff Wednesday Supp' Club [it was massive] and entering the Yard of Ale competition ... failed miserably.

should have visited OXFORD CITY FC ground-they have just been relegated to the NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH. Will be going there next season with RADCLIFFE FC. Pop down and do a feature on Radcliffe too!- we won the Northern Prem League Prem Division last seson!

I took a detour off the M40 to take a look at the Kassam Stadium at the start of May 2006,several days before Oxford fell out of the Football League upon losing 2-3 at home to Leyton Orient amid a frantic multi-cornered last day relegation scrap as Torquay United pulled off a dramatic escape from a seemingly hopeless position just a month earlier and a batch of North West clubs like Stockport,Rochdale,Bury and Macclesfield,plus Notts County,all got themselves out of peril at the last. Rushden & Diamonds were already down,their five-year Football League adventure over.
It looked a neat little ground then,with the blue glass in the main stand building,but it had that wooden fence with a car park behind it then and I'm flabbergasted that nothing's been built there since. I thought they simply couldn't afford to build a fourth stand at the time and were relieved just to get the stadium building project finished after it sat getting rained on half built for two or three winters. It looks like years of neglect has made the place tatty and shabby.
It's near the notorious Blackbird Leys estate,scene of rioting in the early 90s. In a city where town v gown used to exist in different worlds,kept - deliberately,it appeared - apart by a vicious ring road hard to get across between the university and town centre and the five estates (Blackbird Leys the worst,then Barton by all accounts,Headington middling or better) surrounding it in different directions on the outskirts,perhaps the reason why transport links are so poor is to keep people away from there!
I think fans would really appreciate hot baths, Roman style, complete with hypocaust, instead of seats. Luxuriously lounging in a pool of hot water, a pint in one hand, kebab in the other. Think about it 😉

It makes sense not having a fourth stand. Even if you're getting beat 6-0 you can still sing "You're not singing anymore" without fear of comeback.
A lot of stadiums in (smaller countries of) Europe have 3 stands. And I mean top division clubs.
"You've only got 3 stands" feature in a lot of away fans chants - especially if they're getting beaten and have nothing else to sing about.

Oxford fan here. We ALL hate the Kassam. Every Oxford fan despises it. We can't wait to leave it and move into a ground that we own.

Public transport links, comfortable seats, protection from weather and quality of beer are the most important aspect of any stadium.

Oh dear, in Sweden we have lots of stadiums with only three stands. And then we have NP3 Arena (or Norrporten Arena) that have 3 and half stand. It gives me the chills everytime I see it.
