    Really good argument for the choose of F4 instead of 2.8 in sports team !

    Yo. I was out shooting a football (soccer) match last week on my A7siii. I was shooting around f5 and f8 because I was afraid not get the players in focus. Especially if I ball was in the middle of the field, but there were players closer to me the camera had a tendency to focus on them. How do you control your focus shooting like this? Whats your focus settings and mode? Also I noticed on some of your vids your are using a shutter speed a little over the 180 degree rule. Is that intentional to limit the motion blur for more sharper footage?

      Autofocus is always a bit of a gamble. I shoot in wide mode with continuous autofocus but in a situation like yours, if I see that the focus is always on the wrong player, I'll switch to manual focus. And yes, I do go with a slightly faster shutter speed than the 180 rule to make my subjects sharper.

    I'm so far out of my league and frustrated. Coming from cell phone cam/vid only to a new Canon Eos R8 with a 55-200 lens, I have no clue what I'm doing.
    I've been shooting my son's 🏀 games on Auto. At times, I get good footage. I have to find and sign up for some classes. I have no idea what I'm doing😢

      There are plenty of RUclips videos that explain the menu and functions of the Canon R8. Filming on auto is never great. You should try to learn how to expose properly. Search RUclips for the exposure triangle.

    Are u saying that a lens with constant F2.8 would not be good for indoor basketball if i dont want anything blurred and F4 or higher would be better from a focus perspective, but could there be a trade off that it there may not be enough light for indoor video?

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  6 месяцев назад

      All my zoom lenses are constant F2.8. I use them at F4 but if I don’t have enough light, I drop down to F2.8.

      @BeyondTheGame_E  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@shygotem You should only film at 120p if you intend to slow your footage down in post-production and do some speed ramping. If you're gonna stick to full speed, use 4K/30p. Personally I never film vertically but some people do. Here's a video I made about this topic ruclips.net/video/bHdLvALuWtM/видео.html

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  6 месяцев назад +1

      On an F2.8 lens, 2.8 is just the minimum. You can set the aperture to what ever you want.

      @superemesean5907 6 месяцев назад

      @@BeyondTheGame_E 80% of people shoot in poorly lit gyms, there’s no way f4 is gonna give you enough light, UNLESS you wanna jack up your iso, again-something most people don’t want to do. Hence why 2.8 is almost the standard for those shooting video on zoom lenses.

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  6 месяцев назад

      @@superemesean5907 First of all, that's pretty much what I said at 5:14. But it's a big assumption to say that F4 won't work in a poorly lit gym when it entirely depends on your camera model. For example, when using the second native ISO on my camera, some times I have to use an ND filter to film at F4 inside a high school gym.

    • @superemesean5907
      @superemesean5907 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@BeyondTheGame_Eyou also shoot on the fx3 which has insane low light capability, but it’s also a camera most of your audience does not own so again. If you don’t have a zv-1, a7siii or fx3. Drop that ISO down to 2.8

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@superemesean5907 We're saying the same thing my man. But that doesn't change the fact that the ideal aperture for sports is F4 (in my opinion). With your logic, I could say that you are totally wrong about F2.8 because most people who film with a budget camera can't afford an F2.8 zoom lens. Basically what I'm getting at is that we're talking about specs not budgets.
