  • Today at Ugly Truck, we're adding cruise control to Emily's 1970 C10 shop truck. It didn't originally come with cruise, but we want it to look like it did. So we used a Rostra 250-3020 switch from a later model truck, and with the help of a couple of relays, we're ready to cruise!

    I'd be very interested in a video of you relocating the factory fuse box under the seat as you mentioned in this video.I'm doing a LS swap in a 62 ford unibody and think i'm going to have trouble mounting the fuse block with no clearance between to top out the inner fender and the underside of the hood when closed. also very little room under the dash in these trucks. I love the fact that your using factory harness and not a stand alone harness. Keep up that very informative videos.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  23 дня назад

      I have had a bunch of experience lately with the aftermarket harnesses and am going to keep with the factory harness for sure. I have fuse box from a 2004 Astro van that takes up much less space and think I am going to extend the loom and go with that fuse box. We have a 65 Ford that we want to swap and I know I will run into the same problem. If I don't go under the seat, I will reposition the fuel tank and put it all behind the seat. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily

    Curious to know the why you don't use the topside of fuse box fir relays, n go with cramming them into bottom of box. I think my box is going to be crowded with fuel tank relays, cruise relays, headlight relays, I like to keep engine compartment nice n neat. Are there not enough factory spots for oem relay positions? Just seems to me they would be more accessible in upper box of the engine compartment fuse box ...how many of the fuse box wires should be kept n how long? (pink wires)

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  18 дней назад +1

      Hello Jon. Depending on what year of fuse box you are working with. The relays that run those items that you mention are tricky to make function. They are triggered by a ground which is not simple to do in some of the swaps because of the way the fuse box is designed. We do the best we can to add as few relays as possible. I keep all of the wiring that goes to the fuse box until I have everything running correctly, then I start removing wires to clean it up. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Jerry and Emily

    Dang it now we have to rewire our rosta couldn't figure out how to get resume to work
    Now we can.
    Instead of using a relay on the brake switch for the TC lock up we used a 4 prong brake switch but I think the rest of your wiring will give us full functionality of the cruise. Thank you again. In our case utx means ugly Trans Am experience. @Slobberydog707

  • @ericrowenhorst

    So, I'd guess that you'll need to basically have to build you own fuse block by relocating all the wires , or will the plugs that plug into the underside of the pickup fuse boxes plug right into the underside of the astro fuse block. Sorry for what might be dumb questions, but I'm very interested in this idea of the smaller astro fuse block and relocation. Is there a reason you choose a 04 as opposed to an earlier year, reason I ask is I have access to a 2000 astro with TBC

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  20 дней назад

      Hey Eric. We just happen to have a 04 Astro that we bought for the transmission mostly. Its exterior fuse box is pretty compact. It has the fuse and relays that would be needed to run the engine and transmission very similar to what a person gets with a stand alone harness. I will have to get crafty and add another small fuse box to run my other accessories. I haven't seen the 2000 astro box personally. It should work in the same manner though. Thanks. Jerry

      Hello David. Thanks for watching. If you are using a drive by wire LS in that jeep, it would work in the same way once you added a vss signal to the ecm. There are a few adapters out there that tie into the cable speed signal and convert it to a electronic signal. We use one on our 74 k10. Sounds like a cool Jeep. Jerry

    At around 11:30, you mention resistance using CHMSL, does the truck have a third brake light? Or how did you remedy this? Getting ready to add cruise to my 1969 LS

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  День назад +1

      The CHMSL is tied into the brake lights also on the donor vehicles, so it finds its resistance and source to ground through the brake lamps also. If you don't tie it to your brake lights, you can just add a 5 ohm resistor to that circuit and it will work fine. Jerry

I’ve been watching several videos of y’all’s. It be pretty cool to run ABS to on a square body frame. I’m gonna run a 2005 and up f-250 Dana 60 to match the Silverados transfer case hopefully the abs sensors will work with the trucks ABS system.

      Have you watched Chevy’s latest advertising campaign for their new trucks? Not one word about towing capacity, pulling power, or durability. 100% of the 30 second TV spot regales the possibility of up to nine different cameras in it.
      I’m not opposed to customers having options and choices but try to buy a truck designed specifically for being a truck and you’re going to find it a daunting task and many times a more expensive vehicle than the dressed out vehicles. That’s where we are though so I guess that’s why I drive a 29 year old Chevy truck.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
