BAD TIMING - Tuning Up Our NEW SQUAREBODY // 1985 C10 - UTX

- Опубликовано: 18 ноя 2024
- Today at Ugly Truck, we’re rich! Or running rich, anyway… We bought this 1985 Chevy C10 with plans for an LS swap, but it’s not in our budget right now. So today, we tune up this 307 small block in hopes for a fun, cheap project. This motor is a basket case of parts, so we start with a compression test to see what we’re working with, then move on to tuning the carburetor. This Quadrajet turned out to be the biggest problem, so it's @EdelbrockUSA to the rescue! And no “will it run” is complete without a test drive!

Good job guys , you two are likeable characters and thats what it takes.
Thanks so much, James! We appreciate you watching our stuff!
CONGRATS ON 100 EPISODES!!!!!! The next Eric Clapton!!!! Yes sir!!!! I finally got Gen 4 harness and E38 Ecu out of a 2wd 09' Yukon!!!! Now I can finally make my stand alone harness!!!!. Fixing to order a camera so my videos can get better. I have a new computer on order so that will be great as well. My grandkids and I are having so much fun. My one grandson I handed the phone and he kept getting so excited he kept forgetting he was recording. He laid the phone down on the bench. Roflmfao. I told him hey its still recording lol. Chevy 307- 68' to 73'
Thanks Hugh! We have 2 GoPro Hero 9 cameras, and they've been great! Good quality and easy to use. Glad to hear you guys are making progress and having a good time! 😁 Thanks for tuning in!
Congratulations on 100 videos!!! I always enjoy the intro to your videos. Keep them coming and thank you for all the LS swap step by step videos I can look back to resource for my 72 K5 swap.
Thanks Jason! A 72 K5... SWEET!! They're getting hard to find! That will be a ton of fun with an LS. We appreciate you tuning in!
My C10 is an 85 as well. I too pulled the quadrajet for an Edelbrock 1406. Had issues with timing jumping all over the place, so swapped distributors. It's like I relived my situation watching you guys. PS, my Tecton Multimeter helped me get my power locks and power windows working! Thank you again.
That's funny! 😆 We're glad the multimeter was helpful, and appreciate you tuning in! Thanks Chris!
Congratulations on 100 episodes! Eagerly awaiting the next 100! Saw Jerry holding a git-tar, and had to dig in many kitchen drawers to find a lighter. Emily did ok, but you’re no John Cougar Militarycamp. In other news, that was a killer deal on a solid truck…
Look, I did my best, OK??? 🤣🤣 Thanks so much, Jon! We're working on the next 100 already! 😁
Congrats on 100 videos, folks. 👍
Thanks Ray Bann! We were just talking about you! Hope you're doing well, and thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
Congratulations on the 100th video and over 33K Subscribers! Another great video and intro, one of my favorites. I'm still smiling!
That is a great looking truck but I have to say I think I'll hold off on the trade for know. Enjoying my truck so much. You both are the best!
Thanks so much, Bryan! We're glad you're enjoying your truck, but a little disappointed that you don't want to trade...😁 If you don't have plans in September, we'll be back at the C10 Cruise 'N Show! Would be great to catch up! --Emily and Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience I think that is a great reason for a road trip! I plan on being there.
Awesome video guys and congratulations on 100
Keep it up Slash and you guys will have quite the group going with that beautiful voice of Jerry’s lol
Also, love the 85 and all of the tweaks you have done to it
Keep the videos coming we love them 😎👍💯🔥
😁 Thanks Jeff! But please, no more compliments on Jerry's singing. You know how he gets! 🤣🤣 Thanks for tuning in!
Oh and that sounded awesome Emily!!😎👍🏻
Congrats on your 100th video!! I enjoy learning from the videos. Thank you!
Thanks so much, Jeff! The next 100 is on its way! 😁
Hey congrats guys, ya"ll are fun to watch
Thanks so much, Bobby! We appreciate you watching our stuff!
Congratulations on video 100 looking forward to another 100
Thanks Kev! We appreciate you watching out stuff!
Good work!! And congrats 🎉on 100 🎉 🎉😊
Thanks so much, Gus!
You should consider a sniper install to get you through to the LS. Didn't you try one on Emily's c10 before that swap? The motor I had built was a 010 block with 487 heads 1971 date codes. The machines told me 487 were a good flowing head and very sought after for dirt track racing. He also said that the 010 and 020 were very desirable high nickel blocks. Great video
We were just talking about that! We have a FiTech system that is on Neighbor Jeff's Blazer right now, but it's getting a 6.0 swap soon. This 307 sounds really nice, so it would definitely be a good candidate for FI! Full disclosure, I nerded-out on those casting numbers for a couple hours! 🤣🤣 Interesting stuff! Thanks for tuning in, Bill! --Emily
Congratulations on the 100th video! You should name that truck Hercules to honor the person who installed the oil filter 😊
Seriously! 💪😆 Thanks Bill!!
My '74 Jimmy was rotten from the door handles down in 1982. Still ran great but man was it rusty! Thats what I get for living in Southern Ontario
Wow! Our buddy Raul just brought his truck from Texas, and it is SERIOUSLY rust free! That road salt is a killer! Thanks for tuning in, Brian!
Hey guys. Don't kill me. Gave you a shout out and showed a few seconds of your video from my TV.
That's awesome! We'll have to check it out! Thanks Hugh!
No worries.
Very welcome!!!
Good job guys, another great video and good find for that price.
Thanks Andrew! We appreciate you tuning in!
Good find on the truck. Pretty soon, you'll have a fleet. 😂
Thanks Randy! We had plenty of trucks already, but we couldn't pass it up! 😁
I just subscribed to your membership and glad to do it. I appreciate all of that you guys do.
I thought $.99 was a bit steep, 😂😂😂
🤣🤣 Thanks Jeff! We'll consider it a down payment on that 6.0! 😁
I think I’d be cool to see you guys do a carbed ls swap to bring old n new together n thnx again for helping me with my 85 c10 ls swap.
You're very welcome! We've had a few requests for carbed LS content, so we'll see what we can do! 😁 Thanks for tuning in!
Videos have some good information I hope the glasses somebody is wearing in your videos are just shop glasses and they do not wear those when they go out to dinner.
very helpful. Been going through the exact same process on my 79. Very similar set up (650 CFM Edelbrock on a late 80s 350 block.), but I can’t seem to get rid of the fuel smell. It’s running rich, even though I’ve got the mixture screws almost all the way in. down. were you guys able to do away with the fuel smell?
this is been the closest thing to a step-by-step that includes setting mixture according to vacuum in drive and at idle in park while checking RPMs that I’ve been able to find. where did you end up leaving the timing? Could not tell on my phone screen what it was reading
Hello Sam. It is running pretty good right now with the jets and metering rods that came stock in that carb. It is bearable to be around it now with it running not being so rich. I will still try to lean it out a little with smaller jets and metering rods. The vacuum and mechanical advance we're not working and my timing was changing when it shouldn't have been. We will put a new distributor in and fix that problem. From the looks of where it was running good. I will probably start with 10 degrees base timing. It seemed to like it right there. Thanks for watching and let us know how it is going. Jerry and Emily
On the topic of the 307 motor you talked about what’s your go-to oil that provides the additives to help these older motors run and not break down so quickly? Thanks guy!
Hey Tony! We're big fans of Rotella T4 and STP Oil Treatment. The T4 already has some zinc in it, and the STP adds a little more. And it's pretty cheap, too... We only had about $30 in this oil change, including the filter. Thanks for tuning in! --Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience thank you!
The LSs are great motors and all that, but this video reminded me how easy it was to change plugs on a Small-Block.
$1600??
I can see how you jumped on it with both feet, sight unseen.
And I know I'm not telling you anything, but Q-Jets were notorious for fuel leaks in the secondary, to the point where adjusting the idle mixture (teaspoons) had no effect when the secondary's were dumping buckets of gas into the manifold. Good move going to the Edlebrock's resurrection of the Carter AFB; it gave you a good excuse for getting rid of the EGR valve.
And way to go on the 100 videos. I can't even think of 100 things to talk about...
It's nice to go back to the old school stuff once in a while. There's things we appreciate about both. The Quadrajets do have their quirks, but there's still a ton of them out there! We may end up rebuilding this one for another project, and we'll be sure to have a video on that. Thanks Rick! We appreciate you watching our stuff! --Emily and Jerry
Bring the geetars to the next car show and jam out!
We would, but we'd hate to steal the show! 🤣🤣 Thanks for tuning in!
Currently LS swapping an 83 short bed with dual tanks, it’s lowered 3 inches and I’m worried that the oil pan will be hanging below the frame. Any helpful information? Thanks!
Hi Johnny! Check out this video, it shows how the stock oil pan ends up sitting on an 84. This truck is stock ride height, but you may want to go with a Holley low profile pan if you're worried about it. Hope this helps! ruclips.net/video/hBGIVLHMeh8/видео.htmlsi=54hwtTQ0983--U2g&t=2193
I’ve also noticed that a 350 has its oil dipstick on the driver side and a 305 is on the passenger side, don’t know about a 307.
I'm sure there's a small block Chevy expert out there that could school us on all of it, but we're just glad it runs good! 😁 Thanks for tuning in!
Bought a 1978 4x4 Sierra Classic new for $8300 My insurance rep lost his mind at the $8300.00! Still wish i had it lol
$8300 would be a pretty sweet deal these days!! Thanks for tuning in, Scott. And thanks again for the push-lock tool! We'll be putting it to good use soon! 😁👍
Any information on wiring the ls if it’s backed with the original 4 speed?
Hello Ryan. We haven't done a swap with a manual transmission so far. I do know that the manual transmission poses some problems when it comes to tuning them. If you are in the middle of doing one or in the planning stages. I would get a hold of whoever you would have tune the engine/ecm and see what kind of problems you might run into. As far as wiring it is concerned. It is wired the same without the PRNDL switch that can be eliminated in the ECM. The only signal it would get would be speed sensor. Keep us posted and thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience thank you guys for the quick help
Hello! I’m back, I was wondering where you got your wiring harness for the 87 sending unit. Can’t find it anywhere! Thank you
Hi Johnny. The sending unit has the wiring in it. We run all new wiring going down to the sending unit from the fuse box. Hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in! --Jerry and Emily
Well good morning there
Hi Alonso!
Enjoy your channel
Thanks Chris! We appreciate you watching our stuff!
Don't get it right!!!! Just get it going. FIX all the little stuff later. While I'm in here gets stupid expensive roflmfao.
From experience lol.
What’s the turn around time on a ls swap?
If we didn't film it and didn't have any distractions, it's about 3-4 months start to finish. Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
I’ll sponsor you 😬 54:56
Our first sponsor!!! Thanks Tim!! 🤣 It's funny you should mention that... Now you can! We've had several people ask about supporting the channel, so we just set up the UTX Supporter Membership Package. Thanks for tuning in, Homie! 🎸
My 68 chevy II Nova had a 307 powerglide factory setup. Not the strongest motor out there. Neat to find one in this square body. When will the Ugly Truck Album come out ❤
It was definitely an interesting choice for a replacement motor! We're just glad it runs. 😆 Jerry says the album will be out as soon as I finish my guitar lessons... 🙄🤣🤣 Thanks Slayer!! --Emily
My headache right now is a 2006 Impala SS. Being in a garage with a 7.5’ ceiling it was interesting dropping everything out the bottom. It’s my sons first car and I enjoy the challenge. Motor is 5.3 Ls4 and we did Dod delete with sealed set screws in the Dod towers. Can’t find a valley pan for this engine here in Canada for Dod delete.
