What The FORD?? - 1.5L ECOBOOST Timing Explained + TEARDOWN - UTX
Today at Ugly Truck, we're talking Ford engineering nightmares and broken spark plugs. This 2018 1.5 turbocharged Escape went to another shop for a basic repair, and ended up back here for an engine replacement. So we're taking the opportunity to explain the 1.5L Ecoboost timing and special tools needed to replace the timing belt. Once again making lemonade from all these lemons!

LESSONS LEARNED - Replacing a FAILED 5.3 + Our Best LS Swap ADVICE - UTX
Просмотров 8 тыс.14 дней назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're learning lessons the hard way. We built this 5.3 LS engine for this 1984 Chevy C10 swap, and it failed! There was some debris hiding in the oil galley and it wiped out all the bearings, but we're determined to squeeze some lemonade out of this lemon. Replacing this brand new engine is a real bummer, but it's a great opportunity to answer some of your LS swap questions...

Today at Ugly Truck, we're on a roadtrip to Gulfport, MS for Cruisin' The Coast! Our 1970 Chevy C10 ran and drove like a champ the whole 1500 mile round trip. We saw so much awesome stuff and talked to so many of you guys at @TrucksNTacos. Can't wait for next year! STRIPPED & TEASED - Will This SBC 350 RUN AGAIN? - UTX
Просмотров 29 тыс.2 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're finally firing up Jerry's new Blazer, or what's left of it. We bought this truck for a couple parts and stripped the rest, but we'd like to see if this small block Chevy will run and shift through the gears. A filthy Quadrajet slows us down, but time flies when you're having fun! Big THANK YOU to @kwikperformance for the sweet new banner! Click here for more "will it ...
No Cruise? NO PROBLEM! - Adding CRUISE CONTROL to Our LS SWAPPED 1970 C10 - UTX
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're adding cruise control to Emily's 1970 Chevy C10. It didn't originally come with cruise, but we want it to look like a factory option. So we used a Rostra 250-3020 switch from a later model truck, and with the help of a couple of relays, we're ready to cruise! COULDN'T RESIST! - Wiring GEN 4 CRUISE CONTROL For LS Swap - UTX
Просмотров 19 тыс.3 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're doing the IMPOSSIBLE! Wiring up cruise control on this Gen IV swapped C10 using the original factory column switch. The issue is that the LS donor switch uses resistors in parallel to send a signal to the BCM for the on/off, resume, set, and cancel buttons. So after some serious math and some R&D, we're giving you the Gen IV cruise control "cheat sheet"! Be sure to st...
NIGHTMARE ON E38 STREET - Wiring Gen 4 LS Swap AIR CONDITIONING - UTX
Просмотров 14 тыс.3 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're wiring up the air conditioning on this Gen IV LS swapped C10. This 5.3 has a cam, so wiring the AC so that the E38 ECM controls the idle is a must. It takes the BCM, HVAC module, and ambient air temperature sensor from the donor, but this squarebody is blowing cold and ready to roll! Просмотров 18 тыс.4 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we ain't gonna take it... anymore! 🎸 This 1987 K5 Blazer is back from the body shop for a quick engine removal so we can finally find out why there is combustion in the cooling system. If you missed it (playlist link below!) this engine was supposed to be a fresh SBC 350 long block, but a quick teardown says otherwise! Just like the rest of this Blazer, none of the cylinder...
RIVETING CONTENT - Building Upper Radiator Support for LS Swap - UTX
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.4 месяца назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're building an upper radiator mount for this squarebody LS swap. You know we love using parts from the donor, and this is no exception! The top of the donor core support already has holes to mount the LS radiator and cooling fans, and with a couple of small brackets, it bolts into the squarebody core support perfectly. You don't even need a welder! Thanks for your video,...

Просмотров 4,4 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we’re talking LS swaps and body control modules, and wiring the tow haul mode on our 1970 Chevy C10 with a 5.3 and 4L60E. We’ve had a ton of questions about the BCM when it comes to swaps: Do you need it? When do you need it? How does it work? Today, we’ll answer those questions and a few more along the way. PATINA POLISH UPDATE - Easy Wipe On CLEAR COAT + NO GREASY FINISH! - UTX
Просмотров 11 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Today at Ugly Truck, Emily is back on the 1965 Chevy C10. It's been 2 years since we top coated this patina with Zep High Traffic Floor Polish, and it's held up great, but it's time for another coat. After a good scrub, we can simply wipe on another coat and give it some more shine, and a few more years of protection from the elements. Today at Ugly Truck, we’re showing how easy it is to change a 2wd 4L60E to a 4wd, and vice versa. Tearing down a transmission seems complicated, but when it comes to a 2wd or 4x4 conversion, it's pretty simple! So if you end up with the wrong 4L60E for your swap, here's your solution! INSIDE JOB - How to Replace Rusty Body Mounts - UTX
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Today at Ugly Truck, we're taking a break from LS swaps, and tackling the cab mounts on this 1986 Chevy C10. We've soaked everything down with WD-40, but one of the bolts is stuck and the captive nut inside the cab is slipping. Fortunately, this is the perfect job for our new AN600 endoscope (borescope) from ANYKIT. Being able to see inside makes it possible to get this bolt loose without using...

Did I miss where the knock sensors were installed under the valley plate? Awesome videos!!!!
Believe it or not, the ford ecoboost engines aren’t too bad. I bought a focus st with the 2.0 turbo with over 200k and it ran almost like new with no blowby. I’m pretty impressed with the engineering. Not a SBC but they’re pretty good.
As someone that is new to LS engines and is still learning, why wouldn't you change out the cam retainer plate and oil galley plug (barbell) when you're that far into the front & rear covers?
Hello Suds. We have been asked that quite a few times.. I only replace that retainer if it is removed for some reason. The only reason I would remove it would be to replace the cam. I only replace the barbell if I am rebuilding the engine and tearing it down to go to the machine shop. The cam plate doesn't leak and the barbell doesn't ever leak enough to ever be noticed. I just draw the line there between rebuilding the engine or just freshening it up. Thanks for the question and we appreciate you watching. Jerry and Emily
I GOT IT!!!! They want the oil in the intake so its like the old oil bath air filters ROFLMFAO!!!°
🤣🤣🤣 Ok, maybe you're on to something here! 🤣
@UglyTruckExperience ROFLMFAO!!!!! THATS FUNNY
This is the reason Techs are getting rare. Each vehicle has gotten so crazy that DIY guys like me can't or won't do it. What you have to learn on 1 type of engine and there are many. They dont want us working on them. We're not going to pay a bunch for all of the specialty tools you need just to do a simple job. Thats not simple anymore lol. My hat goes off to you Jerry. Wow
I think they like their mechanics flagging 10 hour jobs on something as simple as a water pump or a timing belt also. The average person can't afford that repair and the mechanics are going to get frustrated and bored. Jerry
@UglyTruckExperience That is very true!!!!
I can't wait for the Thanksgiving eve live!!!!
We'll see you there! 😎
@UglyTruckExperience I can't wait!!!! I'll be the dork that doesn't shut up!!!! ROFLMFAO!!!! Just like the videos ROFLMFAO!!!!
Yea they wanted $1500 plus parts to do my 03' Crown Vic 4.6 2v lol. Yea ok!!! I didn't have the time at that point. I found the time I tell ya!!! ROFLMFAO!!!
I bet you did find some time! 😬 Yikes!
@UglyTruckExperience Sure did !!!!! ROFLMFAO!!!!!
I think i love watching these videos so much because it makes me with I had a experience like this when i was younger, Great stuff thanks so much
Thanks Jimmy! We're glad you're enjoying the videos! 😎👍
Very good information 😊
Glad to hear it was helpful! We appreciate you tuning in!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that in 20 years, there will be more Gen III LS's on the road than 1.5 Eco-Boosts. Watching you work on and tear down this thing makes me appreciate my 20 year-old Tahoe and Suburban. There is nothing scarier than a 19 year-old with a rattle wrench.
We're definitely ready to get back to so LS stuff after this one! 🤣 Thanks for tuning in, Rick! Hope you can join us for our Thanksgiving Live! 👋
just curious what video did y'all talk about your used oil heater i watch all the videos i appreciate the information
Hi Earl! That was in our 4.8 LS teardown video. Here's a link! ruclips.net/video/IuY1evt8nh8/видео.html We appreciate you watching our stuff!
@UglyTruckExperience thank you
I'm glad I don't work on ford . Found on road dead. Lol 😂
They can be a real hassle, that's for sure! Thanks for tuning in, Bobby!
@UglyTruckExperience pleasure is all mine!
42:20 The engineers incompotence on display. Or compotence at fucking us over.
Latest and greatest super econo shit box. Seen that lack of crank key at work on a Fiesta; literally the most retarded thing I've seen on a vehicle.
Technically there is "not" 2 top dead centers, only 1! The tool only stop crank at piston up, So there is an exhaust stroke piston up , and compression stroke piston up which is Top Dead center! just for clarity !
That is correct. I was trying to be funny and also point out that the tool could give the wrong info. I just thought it was funny that the tool stops the crank in two different spots. Thanks for your comment and.watching. Jerry
Fix Or Repair Daily, Found On Road Dead ........
We try to love them all, but this one really stinks! 😆 Thanks for tuning in, Ken!
what the ford is going on here...
🤣🤣🤣 Language!!
I can tell you what happened. He broke spark plugs, trying to take it out. There's spark plug debris down in one or all of the cylinders todah. That's my scenario.
Hey Rick. Great to hear from you. We need to catch up one of these days. I agree with your scenario 100 percent. Jerry
Nothing ugly about that pickup I had a solid white short bed just like back in the day I wish I still had it
They're a good looking truck! Thanks for tuning in, Richard!
OH NO KEYWAY????? What a great design!!! You win it's garbage roflmfao!!!!
Dude broke a plug and didn't take all of the debris out and a piece went down the hole and cracked a piston.
Pepper steals the show again lol I can’t believe she’s already talking😂 Hey Jerry, I needed a couple of solar chargers for my batteries on my trailers so I left your video and bought them through Amazon so I wanted to see if it helped you guys out? If not, I need to learn how to do it so I can throw you guys a bone when I am shopping
Hey Jeff! 👋 Yep! Any purchase made through the Amazon links we share gives us a small commission, and helps support the channel! Thanks so much! We appreciate it! --Emily and Jerry
You can’t fix an Ecoboom. You can only prolong the inevitable.
The internet definitely does not have nice things to say about them! 😬 Thanks for tuning in, Prevost!
The ole ugga dugga machine at a bad angle operated by a 19 year old is my bet.
I think you're probably right! Thanks for tuning in, Jake!
Are you sure? That redesigned Ford 4.0 was a ridiculous design. I chain the front and the other in the back lol!!!! That engine was garbage. This one must be pretty bad if your saying this lol!!!!
Your right. That one was pretty bad!!! Although GM came up with the inline 5 cylinder with the same setup. Horrible. Jerry
@UglyTruckExperience That's true lol!!!! They all!!!, Uhhh you know what I mean !!! ROFLMFAO!!!!
ROFLMFAO!!!!!!
I’m about to swap a ly6 into a wrangler. The motor only came with the E38 ecm. Dose the vin on the BCM have to match the ECM? Also do you know if the TCM needs to match also? You guys have great content. Thanks
Hello Jeff. The BCM and the TCM are not vin specific to that E38. If you have a TCM that is very close in the year and transmission that it is running it can make things a little easier but they can be tuned for whatever setup you are running. Thanks. Jerry
Very good job 👍😲
Thanks Antoine! We appreciate you watching!
How much for the new ac bracket
Hi Kenneth! If you're interested in a bracket, send us an email at uglytruckexperience@gmail.com and we'll go from there. Thanks! --Emily and Jerry
Sure it isn’t 1/8” NPT on the oil pressure switch ?
Hello Larry. Yes it is 1/8. Thanks for catching that. Jerry
@UglyTruckExperience on your 70 c10 did you use the 5.3 ls stock exhaust manifolds?
Yep, we did have to trim the frame just a little, but it does have stock manifolds. This video should give you an idea of how they fit. ruclips.net/video/Z4J4vRngjzI/видео.html Thanks for tuning in!
love the material but please stop with the "OK's", ok?
peppppppper
Pepper says hello! 👋🐾 Thanks for tuning in!
The ole Chevy looks awesome. I wish my old 72 wasn’t so rusty. Lots of new metal on it so really hard to get any patina left. But been in the family since almost new so trying to save it. 5.3 4l80e swap partially thanks to you guys and a couple other RUclips channels. Thanks for sharing all of the priceless knowledge. I know I sure appreciate you guys👍👍👍
Thanks so much, Jason! We're glad to hear the videos have been helpful! We're in the same boat with our 72. Salty roads are hard on these old trucks! Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
Are you sure there was t a red spring in the melli ok pump kit. I've replaced about 50 oil pumps in the past 3 years and I've always had the yellow piece of paper explaining what o ring to use based on what color came off and a 100lb spring (red) and a oem spring (yellow). It has been al.kst a year since my last install of one so it must be very recent that they discontinued adding the other spring
Hello Charles. I was always use to having that extra spring in the box also. I have only purchased 5 or so in the last year and noticed around then that they started showing up without the spring. The Melling 10295 and the 10296 come with the optional springs and are just a bit higher priced. I imagine it was a cost thing sending out all of those springs that usually didn't get used. Thanks for watching. Jerry
Amazon swap harness?
No, this is the stock harness from the donor. We haven't been very impressed with any of the aftermarket harnesses, and the stock makes it easy to incorporate things later, like AC, cruise control, headlamps, horns, etc. Thanks for tuning in!
This by far the best ls build I have ever seen I’m an 80s hot rodder, so I’m good on the sbc but ls is whole different animal and now I have much better idea of what I need to do. Thanks. While at FLW we lived in Lebanon.
Thanks Mark! We're glad to hear the videos have been helpful, and we appreciate you tuning in! --Jerry and Emily
I think I may have found the problem, I don't think I have a VSS connection to the computer, would that create this problem??
Yes it would definitely be a problem with no VSS. Jerry
Cruise control was in cars all the way back in the 50’s on Cadillac. But back then trucks were considered work vehicles were not optioned with it.
Thanks Paul. I can imagine how well it worked in the 50's. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
@UglyTruckExperience surprisingly pretty reliable. Vacuum controlled but massive. New subscriber. I love how you make your explanation of the wiring so easy to follow.
Thank You. We appreciate you watching. Jerry and Emily
@ hey we are dropping a 5.3 into an 81. I’m just curious what you do to bypass or delete the theft system on the computer and wiring harness
Man i prayed this video existed thank you so much. Mmmmkay
OK SO! 😁 Glad to hear it was helpful! We appreciate you tuning in!
Great job Emily. Thank you both for the great detail youplace in all your videos. I don't have a c10 but I am applying what I am learning from your videos to my 91 z28 camaro z28 project getting a 2004 lq4 out of a yukon denali
Thanks so much Chuck! And thank you for being a member! We appreciate the support, and are glad to hear the videos are helpful! 👍
