On this episode of Breaking Trail, Coyote and the crew set off to catch a MONSTER Sockeye in the wilds of Alaska!
In quite possibly their grandest adventure to date, prepare to witness the Brave Wilderness team face icy rains, blustering wind and freezing cold water all in an attempt to get the cameras up close to Alaska’s most iconic fish, the Sockeye Salmon!

R.I.P Sockeye McJenkins, will soon die after reproduction. He was a good man, sacrificed his life for his kids. Most importantly he got an oppurtunity so rare most other fish will never get to experience, getting caressed by Coyote. His life would definitely be a contented one. Everyone bow your heads in fellow merimony and, Amen.
Salmon Fish I barely knew sockeye but in few minutes i did know him his story touched my heart, he was a fighter he survived through eagle and bear attacks, and a salmons most feared enemy waterfalls and travelled thousands of miles just for a chance to carry his legacy on to the next generation in the very same rivers that he was birthed in even as he started to grow weak and old he continued to fight and we'll always remember him as that a fighter...
1carperiii Thank you for your kind words for my old friend. Indeed he was a brave guy. Told us stories about his challenging encounters and how he tail slapped a bear once in the face. Another when he talked about how a eagle tried to carry him out of the waters but he used his might to bring the eagle down to the harzardous rivers with him. Though I am not a sockeye salmon like brave McJenkins was, he would visit me in another ocean. Now that he has reached the end of his life cycle, I bid him farewell. I'm going to miss his occasional visits. :'c

Sockeye are beautiful animals. They live so gracefully and die where they are born. They die in a way that is peaceful and benefits the ecosystem. I will never forget rewatching this video and I am ridiculously thankful for this realization.

You sure? He was walking on the gravel during spaw, he used regular net not that rubberized. The regular net has a lot of tiny knots that can hurt fish skin. As I said he completely destroyed the spawn gravel so there is a chance of thoused os eggs going to waste.

As a landscape photographer, I can relate with Cayote at the end of the video where he explains the rush of emotions he got reflecting on his time with the Sockeye. When I capture an image of a place I have traveled to and review it right after I often get a rush of emotions in which I realize how limited our time is on this planet and how lucky I am to have spent even a second of it reflecting on the moment I have spent being present and making a lasting memory doing something I love. We all have these moments and they stay with us, it was amazing being able to see Cayote going through one on camera!
