- I made these live Styx covers as a tribute to one of my favorite bands, and favorite drummers. I'm always impressed by Todd Sucherman's incredibly musical approach to drumming. His drum parts never seem too invasive, but at the same time bring an overwhelming sense of intensity and focus to the music.
I've always had a great deal of respect for everyone in Styx, but now that I've really analyzed and taken in a large portion of one of their shows, it's really astounding as to how "tight" they actually are as a band. You can really tell how aware everyone is of what's going on around them.
I saw Styx perform this set live and it was absolutely incredible. It was possibly the best concert I've ever been to. The mix was great, the band was on fire, and my sister even got to play Tommy Shaw's guitar at the end of "Come Sail Away!"
This series of videos marks a very important occasion in my life as I filmed this literally days before I moved to Los Angeles to attend school at the Musician's Institute in the drum program. I'm a few months in and absolutely loving it!
I had a blast making this drum cover series. I hope you enjoy it!

Todd has become one of my favorite drummers recently. I never was a Styx fan till a couple years back. Anyways I got to see them in concert last year in Greeneville,SC. And the whole show was awesome. The band sounded great. And to watch Todd do what he does was pretty damn amazing. And to see you hang with the talents of him. It is very impressive. Well done!!!!

Dude - you just absolutely killed this. Right in the pocket - power, subtlety, speed - very nice work. It would've been really cool to have a cam on your kick feet, but otherwise the visuals here are perfect.

This is absolutely SURREAL. You must know this. Is drumming just a hobby for you or are you in a band or making a living at this?. If not, why not?. You probably could be hired by just about anyone with your talent. Amazing, but you know this already I hope.
Thanks man! I really appreciate it! Right now my main gig is actually audio production, but I did the pro drum thing full time for a few years in LA and it was great! While I was there I got my degree in drum performance from Musicians Institute, and I got to play with some really amazing people!
@@mikehetzel I'm always so happy when I hear that someone with so much musical talent has been able to work it into a career for themselves. Not many people can say they received a degree in drum performance and even made a living at it. So much unrecognized talent out there. I grew up with a dad who was an English professor at the University Of Hartford. He adored the Hart School Of Music students and admired their perseverance to pursue their dream of making music. My dad was always trying to "save" students who's lives were in turmoil. When my dad heard about a student who's father decided he should switch to accounting from a music major, he offered the student free room and board at our house for the next two years so he could afford to finish his music degree without his fathers financial support. He lived with us and went on to eventually become a professor of music theory and even put out a couple of albums as a pianist years later. I still talk to him. I didn't develop any true musical talent myself but love to tinker and make music as long as no one else can hear it. LOL. I wish you a beautiful future!.

Did John Panozzo play it the same way? I know in the bridge he doesn't play on the original recording, from what I remember. Nice drumming though!

WELL.....my only complaint is that this version of the song sucks , your playing was amazing, but i cant stand this line up of styx .
