Probably the most inspiring solo I've ever listened to/seen. There is not one thing id do differently, it's just so perfect. Everything about it. Dudes a legend
I'm not a musician, can't play an instrument, but still think this is fascinating. Can't even imagine the amount of time it took to be able to control each arm and foot independently of one another like this. Only wish whoever filmed this video would keep the small inset window of his feet onscreen all the time. I'm betting Todd Sucherman has to be one of the best drummers around.
I’ve played drums on and off for years. There is so much room for improvement all the time. Any instrument takes time and talent. But yea it is really hard coordinating all limbs at the same time. 😆
What I’ve always loved about drummers like Todd, Neil (RIP), etc, is that their solos are not about showing technique, there about taking you on a musical journey. Great solo, Todd!!!
I watch this every morning...the perfect way to start my day...this solo runs through my head all day and makes me smile. I know i can never be this good but it will fun trying.
Watching this again after several months. Todd's skills are so deep and precise. Keeping the high-hat going on the upbeats while hammering out poly-rhythmic, flam-laden Tom Tom patterns with monster fills in between is master level drumming.
Seriously! It was an impressive drum solo even without that constant hi hat. That he kept the hi hat going flawlessly the whole time, subtly altering the pattern to match the energy, was the cherry on top. Truly amazing
Respect for Todd just went up a few notches. A solo with a theme and driving pulse that pulls you in until you’re dancing in your seat, not just a bunch of fancy licks strung together incoherently. Well done.
Quite possibly the besteset drum solo I've ever heard. Why? Because in and of itself it's a song kinda/sorta. Not to mention the sheer badassery of Todd's movements.
I don't know how many times I have watched and listened this drum solo and I don't think I will ever get tired of it. So freaking good. More please Mr. Sucherman, more .
This is the best drum solo in the world. Short, Sweet, like a short story. Not a "look at me and my chops" solo. Watched it so many times. Never overpowering, never boring, push and pull. Just amazing.
I love this drum solos because it is musical. Solos that seem to just ramble on. Like the drumer is trying to hit all the drums as fast as he can gets boring.
Seriously, when I heard him talking about how he liked his toms and cymbals to have their own notes, I couldn't believe how much sense it made. Like really selecting his crashes based on their respective pitches. Of course, it's not applicable to all genres of music, but for a solo it's exceptional.
Yes! Musical! Simon Phillips and Neil Peart are also excellent soloists. A great solo is like a dialog, not just hitting everything as fast as you can.
Excellent drum solo!!!!......... NO matter how fast is your blast beat or double bass drum, NO matter how many cowbells you have, etc etc etc, YOU play something like 2:11 and that really blows your mind....AWESOME!
I really didn't know who Todd Sucherman was until I heard this fantastically musical solo. I have always avoided playing solos in the past on almost all gigs but I have been trying my best to copy much of this the best I can. Love it.
Absolutely phenomenal drummer on every level!… dynamics, power, control, chops, musicality and endurance… always a joy to watch and listen to Todd! Such a inspiration and a great guy too!! 🙏❤️
It's kind of a half-mute, honestly only necessary if you're in the middle of a fill. I'm a pretty average drummer and would probably have issues implementing this technique. I know my limits haha
It sounds pretty cool when you use hit it on 2 of the 4/4 half-time beat. Try hitting it with the snare as well (rim shot optional). Hit the snare again on 4 and resume the groove.
Caught him at Drum City drum clinic last night where he took the same flowing concept and "arc" of rhythm for a full 25 minutes...maybe a half hour, but I got totally lost in time listening and watching intently;) Beautiful stuff.
I’m completely impressed by his technical abilities, not so much his artistic ability. I will never in twenty lifetimes ever be as good as him as a drummer.... never!, but drum solos are a story with rhythmic peaks and valleys and his is a display of his amazing technical ability.
This is hands down the best and most creative drum solo I've ever seen. Imagine this being the top of the line, and people are going crazy over drummers like Joey Jordison.. I mean...
Best drum solo I heard so far it has a theme! Is not a demonstration of drummer capacity to play but it is something you can enjoy. And that double hit of the high hat… amazing! It filled me. I was wondering how he do that? So creative!
So Musical ,the Drums are singing,so well orchestrated, superb technique, one of the best Drum Solos I have watched in my life ,thank you Drumeo and Mr Todd Sucherman... :)
this is awesome! It's like a song with melodies and structures rather than all the rudiments and drums at light speed, they get dull after awhile but this stays fresh
Ive watched this so many times and im always amazed. Thr control and dynamics are so impressive. Thats one of the things many drummers (not necessarily the ones they feature in drumeo, im talking in general) miss.
This past month i have been very lucky....saw one of the best game of hockey ever !!!!! Between the Edmonton Oilers and the San Jose Sharks. The one were the Oilers trailed 3 to 1 and won in overtime 4 - 3 and tonight one of the best drum solo i have ever seen and heard!!!! I am a lucky guy
Todd just floors me every time I see this man play. I tried to duplicate (in my own way) what he does here. I found that doing these Flam taps is easier and closer to the sound he gets by NOT pronouncing the flam itself so distinctly. More like a double handed hit or flattened out flam ...if that makes any sense. Mix that up with triplets, drags and five stroke rolls (especially between your hands and feet like RRFFL or drag(LL)RF or RLRLLF...)...mostly I just added this for texture and excitement but getting back to those Flam taps...love it. He is just soooo good.
I would enjoy seeing Danny Carey and Todd jam together. Their abilities to navigate complex time signatures, rather effortlessly, would be a treat to enjoy!
I'm generally not a fan of drum solos but this one was very original. Too many drum solos are just about speed and not structure but this guy _constructs_ his solos with really good phrasing.
I don't even like Styx but Sucherman is one of my all-time favorite drummers. Tasty, accurate, musical. And he's smart as a whip too, great instructor.
I agree that this is one of the best musical solos I have seen. Todd is amazing. Hey!!! I just finished doing the 26 week course with Todd Sucherman called "Rock Drumming Masterclass" through Drumeo. It was an amazing experience and I have never learned so much than I did with Todd. Rock On Drumeo and Todd Sucherman............
This is exactly what a drum solo should be: musical. So many drummers--including top-tier--go off into a flurry of fills without a coherent structure in their solos.
Todd is arguably the one of best drummers alive right now. Power, precision, versatility, and GROOVE.. he really has it all at the highest level!! 👏😎
He' agreeably the beat drummer alive too.. No argument here
I’m not sure it’s even arguable. A total stud and a total class act.
He is impressive!!
Definitely a class act .
Dont forget about the personality and finesse in his drumming
best solo I've watched on Drumeo
yeah amazing solo man
agree
Check out the ERIC MOORE one for sure bro. You can thank me later.
Dafnis prieto´s drumming is unreal..
The orchestration is RIDICULOUS.
Holy fuck. This is not a drum solo, it's a song in itself.. Holy hell that is impressive..
Probably the most inspiring solo I've ever listened to/seen. There is not one thing id do differently, it's just so perfect. Everything about it. Dudes a legend
This is playing the music, not just the beat. There's always been something different about Todd's style and it's hard to describe, but he's special.
He really is!
The touch and relentlessly interesting vibe of this. Trance like
most musical drum solo ive ever heard. keeps the listener engaged the whole time. wow
I watch this every morning...the perfect way to start my day...this solo runs through my head all day and makes me smile. I know i can never be this good but it will fun trying.
Todd has some of the tastiest drumming vocabulary to choose from. Reminds me of how Benny Greb solos, and that man's drumming vocab is ridiculous!

This is by far my favourite solo i have heard on Drumeo
Best solo on Drumeo - musical - actually enjoyable to listen to - makes you want to dance / groove. Awesome.
I can watch this over and over! He's making those toms SING!!!
The resonances of a couple of the toms and the snare are the tones of a power chord, and it's so satisfying :)
So tasteful and disciplined! Had the pleasure of meeting the man two years ago at AUDW, he killed it!
Tasteful is actually the p e r f e c t word for this solo.
Quite possibly the besteset drum solo I've ever heard. Why? Because in and of itself it's a song kinda/sorta. Not to mention the sheer badassery of Todd's movements.
Maybe the best drum solo I’ve ever heard. Musical, technical, rhythmic…it’s just perfect.
I don't know how many times I have watched and listened this drum solo and I don't think I will ever get tired of it. So freaking good. More please Mr. Sucherman, more .
Love how he solos while still keeping the groove going, and the deep tones from the beautiful sounding toms very cool.
This is the best drum solo in the world. Short, Sweet, like a short story. Not a "look at me and my chops" solo. Watched it so many times. Never overpowering, never boring, push and pull. Just amazing.
Unbelievable amount of control. So awesome 👌🏻
No matter which video i watch, i always see your comments😂
Can't watch a video on RUclips without stumbeling across your comment😂
Jacob armen is another amazing drummer that imo has the best control for independence play
This is slowly becoming one of my favorite solos of all time
Finally a drum solo you can watch in full. Amazing job just so clean and smooth with great grooves and tempo. I can watch him all day
Maybe the best drummer I've ever seen in my entire life, pure technique, not a crazy machine gun. 👌👌👌👌👌
Oh my god that left foot has been going on continuously throughout the whole solo... He mastered such a coordination... So inspiring
I love this drum solos because it is musical. Solos that seem to just ramble on. Like the drumer is trying to hit all the drums as fast as he can gets boring.
shane brown very very musical, I liked it pretty much
Seriously, when I heard him talking about how he liked his toms and cymbals to have their own notes, I couldn't believe how much sense it made. Like really selecting his crashes based on their respective pitches. Of course, it's not applicable to all genres of music, but for a solo it's exceptional.
shane I'm right with you on that. He truly does tell a story and his feel and fluency is absolutely outstanding. Well said buddy 🙏
Luke Stanley u
Yes!
That was insane!
Yes. He is playing a melody. Very musical.)
Talk about making the drums sing! Love it!
Absolutely 🥁🥁🥁
Seeing him on stage was a life changing experience playing with Styx
That is the epitome of what a drum solo should be. Incredible technique and structure which is truly musical. Absolutely inspirational!!!
The bestest thing about this solo is that it's only four minutes long. Bonham and Peart would go on and on for twenty minutes. Sucherman gets it.
i love the 10 note melody Todd creates and continues through the entire song. He makes the drums sing.
That wasn't a solo, it was an instrumental song. The accent phrasing with the cymbals is the best I've ever seen.
I really didn't know who Todd Sucherman was until I heard this fantastically musical solo. I have always avoided playing solos in the past on almost all gigs but I have been trying my best to copy much of this the best I can. Love it.
he has a Passion and it completely shows and Awesome to see him play!
Finally! A coherent solo that actually tells a story! Well done.
Absolutely phenomenal drummer on every level!… dynamics, power, control, chops, musicality and endurance… always a joy to watch and listen to Todd!
Such a inspiration and a great guy too!!
🙏❤️
One of the most under appreciated drummers ever. I’ll be seeing him for the 4th time on March 6th with one of the best live bands ever, Styx. 😎
Todd is the master jedi of drummer, precision, texture, technique.
Musicianship,creativity,technique,phrases ,control ,DYNAMICS ,musical form,pulse!!!!!
The drum sound and mix on this absolutely insane. Todd is also equally amazing.
the consistency of those snare notes in the beginning 😭😭 I could never
Best Drumeo performance in awhile. Excellent job. He has his own real thing going on here.
I can not describe with words how amazed and greatful i am to watch a drum solo like this one here.Mr.Tod and Drumeo thank you.
One of the most tasteful and creative drum solos ever.
This is one of the best solos I've seen in a long while. Crazy amount of control and independence going on
'2:20' Omg Iove that beat so much!! Anyone else with me? ✌️
Falk Michael Beuzenberg Immediately had my eyebrows raised from that moment on. Dude is insane.
Yes!
Falk Michael Beuzenberg Heard that like a 1000 times😍
Those ghost notes are insanity.
he has a Passion and it completey shows and Awesome to see him play!
Even as a drummer, I rarely can stomach drum solos, but the musicality of this one kept my attention. Very nice stuff...
I think he is one of the most creative and versatile drummer of modern day.
Clearly one of the best
This is one of the nicest drum solos I've ever heard. Amazing!
That no-hands cymbal choke at 02:36 :O!
haha.. noticed that too.. so cool!
There are some SUPER sick fills in this solo... and the kit sounds amazing too... Sabian proves once again why they will always be my first choice.
TS is my new hero and mentor on RUclips. I absolutely love everything he uploads, or being invited on. So much style and chops on that guy!
This is not a drum solo, this a fine orchestrated musical piece done by the master!!!
Outstanding!!!!! Todd keeps moving up my personal list of favorite drummers and this solo is one of the reasons!!!!!
Caught him at Drum City drum clinic last night where he took the same flowing concept and "arc" of rhythm for a full 25 minutes...maybe a half hour, but I got totally lost in time listening and watching intently;) Beautiful stuff.
probably one of the most enjoying solo I've watched... Precise, kind of simple , jungle beat , dynamics. Damn that was solid.
I’m completely impressed by his technical abilities, not so much his artistic ability. I will never in twenty lifetimes ever be as good as him as a drummer.... never!, but drum solos are a story with rhythmic peaks and valleys and his is a display of his amazing technical ability.
One of the alltime greats - so underrated and over looked!
Oh, what a smooth, groovin, swingin and deadly solo. Gets ya right where it counts. For a drummer this is like a home cooked meal.
never get tired of watching this Gent play. BRAVO!
Wow! He paces himself, total control and dynamics! He's a monster and a half!
So Musical ,the Drums are singing,so well orchestrated, superb technique, one of the best Drum Solos I have watched in my life ,thank you Drumeo and Mr Todd Sucherman... :)
Fantastic solo. Beautiful kit! I love that color.
Todds @ the top of my favorites. This solo is incomparable to anything I've ever heard.
this guy is king. he's so good at what he does
Not many drummers sound satisfying... but this man makes drumming sound peaceful
this is awesome! It's like a song with melodies and structures rather than all the rudiments and drums at light speed, they get dull after awhile but this stays fresh
El sonido,la intención,la técnica,lo musical,que genio.
Hasta de los errores saca el mejor provecho. Gran solo.
That is a musical movement. It is an entire symphony. Wow.
Todd Sucherman changed the way I think about drums. Mind blowing.
Who thumbs down Todd Sucherman??Must have been Weckl and Gadd.
Ryan Donohue I was wondering the same..want to believe it was a mistake 😕
Weckl and Vinnie. Gadd would dig it 😝
No, it was Thomas Lang!
More likely guitar players. They don't seem to like anything other that what they're doing.
john lindquist lol guitarist here
Ive watched this so many times and im always amazed. Thr control and dynamics are so impressive. Thats one of the things many drummers (not necessarily the ones they feature in drumeo, im talking in general) miss.
His stick control/chops are as good as anyone's...very nice, a pleasure to watch
I could watch this solo over and over all day!!!!!
The Master at work
how he keeps that snare beat switching hand to hand .... AMAZING.
Todd just floors me every time I see this man play. I tried to duplicate (in my own way) what he does here. This mans a drummer!!!!!!! One of my favorite to watch
UNBELIEVABLE! Also, the chick sound of the hi-hat and that China Boy placed to his left, man what amazing sounds.
I could spend hours watching and enjoying this drum solo, what a fantastic drummer.
One of the most musical drum solos ever!
The sound is unique! Indian beats are there. Hats off to you Sir!
Is crazy how the snare is placed so high, and the strange thing is that it actually looks comfortable, great solo!!!!
oh wow phenomenal sound and talent thanks, Todd Sucherman
I would enjoy seeing Danny Carey and Todd jam together. Their abilities to navigate complex time signatures, rather effortlessly, would be a treat to enjoy!
Indeed. I'd love to see him work with Morgan Agren. I think both of their styles would work seamlessly together.

Coordination, touch and dynamics, traditional grip, speed and control, sound balance, musicality...what else does he need to be a perfect drummer?
Heard more ideas in this solo than most drummers have in their entire carrier...❤
For a change, watched a drum solo till the end. Control and Musicality. So awesome.
more like Todd "Superman". 🎶💪
Or Todd "Sugarman", cause he makes anything sound like sugar, in a good way!
more like odd man
Its Odd Superman
