One thing you failed to mention: For Aerial it is possible to do the longer spirit combo when you're at White gauge or higher, just do the vault > R > X > R. I usually use this for extra dps when the monster is down/stunned. Also, it is possible to get white/yellow gauge in Valor style by using Sakura Slash, but once you get Valor mode it'll be gone.
I'm an insect glaive main, but I've been learning longsword for a while now, heard alot about how valor basically overshadows every other art so this tutorial is very useful, time to go master it
I distinctly remember getting a bad first impression for adept long sword against great maccao and then warming up to it after I faced monsters with slower attacks and larger hit boxes. I to this day have problems getting the back swing on the spirit slash to connect on great maccao, which is what actually raises the meter
use other styles until you master each monster, then try adept, because you need to calculate where the monster will be when you do the last hit which is a lot of time. Personally for Great Maccao i just use a trap and dodge a bomb into spirit slash and sakura art to increase spirit gauge
So true, there's no comparison because MHW is so far behind. Hopefully they step up their game if they release a G rank revision but I wouldn't count on it.
That's what happens when you start from scratch. There's only so long you can reuse the best assets from previous games before they start looking dated. As much as I love MHGU its graphics do NOT do the switch justice.

Ah the Longsword, my main weapon for MH3U (which I am playing at the moment), probably once I start 4U again (which I never finished) and the weapon I play the second most in MHG and MHGU.
Gah, I need to find time to play this, Valor style looks like so much fun. To be fair Adept already had the drawback that if anything attacked you again quickly after the dodge you were kind of locked in the run, it made Zinogre (of all things) tricky to fight when he alternates his claw slap speed while Valor doesn't seem to have that problem.
I've noticed that, for Valor style, you sometimes say the sheath animation reduces damage by 30% but you also sometimes say 15%. Does it depend on the weapon?
I think the difference is because blademasters have higher defence than gunners, purely because of armour. So it makes sense that they'd buff gunner's damage percentage higher to account for it. Especially since some monster hits will one hit cart you if you're a gunner.
Anybody still playing I just got it and I'm struggling like crazy like it took me the whole day to beat the first large monster once I don't want to drop this game couse I know it's amazing I played world and I love the mh series now but the game is so hard
1) Using effective weapons/multiple weapon types will help you learn how to fight things smarter, not harder. 2) Make sure you're using a control scheme that makes sense to you. I had to change mine to Type 3 because using Dpad to activate Arts was far too clunky for me, and it also makes using Gunner SUPER simpler. 3) The game fundamentals do have a bit of a learning curve and every monster their own fighting style. You don't have to and shouldn't make a beeline for the monster the moment you spot it. Spend the first couple minutes watching for movements and learning patterns while poking with one or two attacks, and once you feel comfortable start doing full combos and stay aware of the situation. 4) Also, don't underestimate your Palicoes. Between SP Gauge/Atk/Def buffs, healing, and trap setting, your friends are rather important helpers in the battle. My Palicoes actually landed the finishing blow on my first Astalos, and literally not even an hour ago helped me beat my first Zinogre in just under 11 minutes (the irony is great). 5) Last but not least, the Internet is your best friend. I'll cry when I'll see the Charge Blade tutorial lol
I think I'm gonna stick with striker for long sword. It feels natural and the 3 hunter arts is a big plus. Also does anyone have any suggestions for endgame longswords?
Cal Resu Shredclaw LS is a very good one, High Raw (330), VERY long white sharpness (you dont need razor sharp, sharpness +1/2 or absolute readiness to keep that white), 5% affinity and is a deviant weapon, so your hunter arts will increase faster, but it dont have any slots.
Thanks for the help man I've been trying to figure out an endgame setup I think I'm gonna use Hayabusa feather, silver sol r pieces and one gore XR for an optimal crit set, that weapons fits the set perfectly! ^_^
Atlal Ka LS and Wycademy LS are also good as they have high stats and 3 slots, so it can be easier to build good sets around it, altough you may want Sharpness +1/2 (Atlal Ka LS), Razor Sharp (both), and/or Absolute Readiness (both) to maintain their sharpness.
I think I'll stick with the Shredclaw LS so I can have more crit skills and so I can run critical juncture instead if absolute readiness but thanks anyway.^_^
hello i'm struggling to get to the spirit combo in aerial when i vault i press R then R then X and X and it doesn't work maybe i'm messing up with the right button but i couldn't find the right combo because all tutorial i've seen is just saying (1 2 3 4) but i don't get what should i press in 1 2 3 or 4 so i'm stuck. By the way when it comes to vault i press B the jump and then any attack boutton the get in the air so it could be (X, A, R) but no matter wich one i press first the spirit combo doesnt start
How do people deal with the button placement while using Valor style? I found it very awkward to hold down X and then press the other buttons. Is there a way to change button placement?
Hold down X? If you're talking about the brave sheath, it's the Y button we're talking about. Also you don't have to hold it, you can just press Y once to enter the sheathing animation and press X/A/whatever button during that animation to do the special moves.
Please do one for Dual Blades and Insect Glaive, I'm currently used to World and the last Monster Hunter I played (except for World) was 3 Ultimate so I don't know much about the changes that was made in 4 and Generations
He will be doing Dual Blades after Sword and Shield tomorrow. You'll have to wait for Insect Glaive though, that's on the 27th. He has a schedule for each one.
I'm playing in the switch using the aerial style and I cant level up my gauge unless I do the special hunter art move. None of the back buttons do the spirit attack
How much of a time difference are we talking about for Adept Style's "powering up" move? I barely feel any changes from MHG; is it like 400ms or so? Most the time I just evade away.
I'm never sure whether I'm supposed to wait until the monster is stunned to power up or try to power up immediately. How strong is the base longsword in comparison to a fully powered one? Is there any point at all in attacking with an underpowered longsword?
spirit gauge is the sword shaped one the other one is for the alchemy barrel, it indicates how many shakes you can do, as you get different alchemy items depending on that. mostly used for charging arts and healing, you can also get meat and earplugs and a sonic bomb and even a mortar shot
Is this game worth buying? I started on MH4U loved it, bought MHG and hated it because of no story and it didn't feel as refined (e.g. g ranks, better armour custumisations etc...) so i regret it, is this worth it?
TheDragonaf1 oh yes. G rank, armor transmog, new deviants, 2 more styles for all the weapons, beast mode prowler.. But if you expecting the story to add something new to the table sorry to say it is pretty much the same stuff but with the new flagship
Yo my bois I'm conflicted. Should I get GU when I already have XX? I don't know, I would love to play another English Monster Hunter game and play online, but ya know, I already beat the game.
Hey guys, I was practicing adept style in the training mission with the great maccao. Every time I do the adept dodge, whenever I do the adept dodge I'll always be further away from the monster to be able to do the X+R to fill up my gauge. How do I be able to dodge an attack but at the same time be close enough to the monster to connect the rest of the combo?
After an Adept Evade, you can change directions of your run in after your roll. So let's say you dodged a Glavenus Tailspin. After you do the corkscrew and land, adjust the control to run toward the Glavenus. The timing window is pretty long, so you don't have to worry about misinputs.
@@xavieryneutron2275 Well what usually happens is, after the corkscrew, me the monster would be back to back with a pretty wide space between us, since his attack would past by my evade. By the time I turn around and run back to him, the attack window would've ended and I'd need to redo it again. The attack he does, is when he uses his tail as a spring and lunges at you btw
@@Zeihara you don't actually have to do the adept spirit finisher with every successful adept evade. Patience is key when using adept longsword because you'll be reading the monsters movement before, during, and after an adept evade to successfully land that finisher. Try observing the movement of the Great Maccao and run in there after you feel like its going to take a while before it moves again. You can also dodge WITH the attack, dodging backwards and following its lunge placing you right beside it.

spirit gauge is the sword shaped one the other one is for the alchemy barrel, it indicates how many shakes you can do, as you get different alchemy items depending on that. mostly used for charging arts and healing, you can also get meat and earplugs and a sonic bomb and even a mortar shot
timed it countless time heres the result
adept LS finisher: X, R
Gen: 1.9s
GU: 2.3s
Conclusion: 20% slower in GU
No! :(
Is this game worth buying?
Nargycu well if you love the game and have cash to burn why not
I was really disappointed they removed the dodge slash from MH World.
John Jackson you do realize this game came out years befote world, right? It wasnt removed...
@@Akirathedon92 I mean they took it out in World. It was in MHGen(U) and MH4U but not in World.
Did you stop doing top 5 Weapons for monster hunter world ? Because my beloved gunlance wasnt there...
Thanks for this video

Please do a charge blade tutorial for us charge blade mains
WHERE YOU TRIP MAINS AT
Valor looks to good to pass up for longsword.
Yep. I love it.
Hate it. Very hard to use
How many tries did it take to counter that glavenus tail and chop it?
Not that hard with timing. Once busted a Rathian's face and wing with one go of the counter slash thing. By accident... was going for tail :(
To draw into counter on Valor it is RXY? What is RXA then?
What sword is that in the video your using??
Can you do Charge Blade next?
