I have found something that has changed me as a Hunting Horn Main forever. To see your melodies activation, press the + button, then the R button. This will pop up a “secret menu” that shows ALL your melodies on that horn. To tell the difference, grey is not active, white is normal, and yellow is encored. Both. Think of songs as your combos. Use them to smack the monster in the face. Recitals are not buff animations, they’re attacks. Be aggressive, but don’t try to be perfect with double notes and double everything, because you might get bogged down in them. I’d recommend playing a couple of hunts solo with it before you go online. A lot of people who start HH in online play tend towards the “I’m just gonna play songs over here” type which is not the kinda guy you wanna be. Even if you drop a song here or there it’s not the end of the world if you’re still hitting the monster around too. Don’t feel the need to have 100% uptime on buffs.
To add on to what Brad says, think of the HH as a bigger, slower, longer-reaching hammer that happens to have extra perks to using certain combos, as a tradeoff to losing the running charge. If you like to just stand in the monster's face and tee away, the HH will do wonderfully.
As someone has already said, "both"... Think ahead of what song you want to play and swing the horn according to that set while hitting the monster (preferably the head)... It's best if you have a cheat sheet or you memorize the songs. Thankfully I have a handy PDF of the song list in my iPad I have open beside me for a quick glance. Say the Heal Up song is A-A-X-XA-you star smacking the head using that combo and then you press R to recite which is also an attack itself... Then move on to the Earplugs songs which is XA-XA-A-X en recite/encore and rinse repeat... I say the HH is probably the most simple weapon to use outside of memorizing the songs.
Hi Gaijin and folks in the comments. I have a question. If I own MHGU and, my friend has MHG, can we play the game together, or do we both have to have the same version of the game? Thank you any and all who respond.
They're different games. Here's a visual representation: Monster Hunter: Generations Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Notice the lack of a colon and the addition of the word "Ultimate" as well as it being on a seperate System than Generations. You can't play together across seperate games.
Is it weird that I like the hunting horn from gen u way more than from world? Sure having a cue is very dandy and having the songs on screen is nice but that's about it. In the demo I was using adept and valor because those styles accommodate the hunting horn extremely well. Worlds hh are just meh, from what I can gather you don't really need a hh in world but it seems like hh are valued in past games. I feel like world's version is in a lot of ways a downgrade. Btw world was my first monster hunter game ever.
@@KorilD yeah I totally agree with you. How come the mh team is willing to rework other weapons but leave the hh just like in the stone age. Playing the gen u demo made me realize that they did nothing new and in fact they did less overall. It's a shame really

Hi Gaijin and folks in the comments. I have a question. If I own MHGU and, my friend has MHG, can we play the game together, or do we both have to have the same version of the game?
Thank you any and all who respond.
They're different games. Here's a visual representation:
Monster Hunter: Generations
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Notice the lack of a colon and the addition of the word "Ultimate" as well as it being on a seperate System than Generations.
Eric J. Edward World did a lot of things wrong, including how the HH was implemented.
@@KorilD yeah I totally agree with you. How come the mh team is willing to rework other weapons but leave the hh just like in the stone age. Playing the gen u demo made me realize that they did nothing new and in fact they did less overall. It's a shame really
I'm always happy when I see a HH and no one needs em now because most fights are easy. Once g rank or w.e it is comes I'll sure they'll be even nicer to have
@@BasegFarmer not even g rank will make players use it more. Also the problems with the weapon still consists.
Edward oh I know ppl womt use it but I'm saying nobody will be mad if they do
