Whenever someone asks me how much fun the customisation of playstyles are in Monster Hunter, I always go onto explain the simpler weapons like the S&S, Lance and Great Sword, then I describe the Charge Blade and the sheer whiplash that they suffer is beautiful.
Things you missed in Valor style: - In Axe mode, you can hold Y then press X+A to use super/ultra as a cancel attack, both in and out of Valor. - In Valor mode you can use shield thrust after a dodge. - In Valor mode you can press A after a shield thrust to do Alchemy's auto charge. - In Valor mode, pressing A after phial charge will go into Elemental 2 instead of 1. - In Valor mode, Blue shield doesn't give mini explosion after a GP, which makes it somewhat worse than red shield when going against certain monsters. - Even tho you lose the GP after the round slash, but that's in SnS mode only. You still get that GP when morphing from Axe to SnS.
Saito your first point you mentioned I have yet to pull that off in the last hour messing around on the demo, when I press “Y” for valor sheath then press “X+A” it does a roundslash as if I’m pressing “X” only. I’ve tried this in and out of valor mode and haven’t pulled it off, idk if it’s just the way the joycon feels physically or what but I was excited when I read that point you made
I’d like to note something about the energy blade art: the damage itself isn’t great, BUT the part breaking potential is insane! 90% of the time you WILL cut a tail, break a horn/fang or clip a wing. The animation can be a bit weird trying to connect if another part of the monster gets in the way though
I've been watching the GU tutorials again for fun, and the nostalgia in this one hit hard. Having mained adept charge blade all through generations and valor charge blade through GU, watching this brought back a lot of old memories

Honestly I have nothing but admiration for the design team behind this weapon. Such an incredibly technical weapon, in the hands of a pro it's like watching poetry in motion. I'm an sns main, but if there was one weapon I would wish to be a pro with, it's the charge blade.
A new thing I stumbled upon today, that wasn't covered in this video: In Adept Style, after an adept evade while the weapon is sheathed, another option besides X (to draw into downward slam), is to do R+X+A to draw into Elemental Burst II. Love this series! Fun and *very* informative :)
FYI guys there are followups after the brave evades. In sword mode you can immediately do a shield thrust after the guardpoint dash, and as has been pointed out, you can follow up with the charged double slash, without having to rely on valor stance to access it. In axe mode after a valor step you do a very quick side chop with x, and with a its the same thing but with a phial discharge. Really useful to get the combo going or get a few quick hits in Finally brave stance in axe mode x+a and you can do the AED, but it has a much quicker windup. Its useful to know it's there. It also builds up a nice amount of valor gauge. In brave, phials charge much faster. I think brave has something like innate Focus but better. A shield thrust into double slash brings you all the way in the red phials, really encourages axe play.
I remembered hunting Molten Tigrex with the CB the bravest way I know how. Stunning him with Guard Points . It was so satisfying ending the hunt solo. Now I have to relearn the weapon again!

Just now I recognized the Soulseer CB in the thumbnail. LOVE the design of this weapon; most Deviant weapons are basically just tweaked repaints of the basic version, but Soulseer's Charge Blade looks completely different from the standard Mizu CB. Also, recently switched from mainly Guild CB to Adept CB and am loving the heck out of it. The moveset doesn't sacrifice ANYTHING that I use routinely, and the Adept Guard is just too much fun (plus how quickly it activates red shield mode).
that comment about the healing slash explains so much about your mhw tutorials and reviews. Also we really need styles and hunter arts in mhw. Hopefully that comment about new moves in iceborn was refering to arts or styles.
@@niallreid7664 The health goes up with more people. I tried it with my friend and we couldn't beat it, then used Valor Hammer solo and got it in under 15 minutes
CB is my main ever since 4U, I went nuts with Adept CB in XX last year, and now I wanna give Brave CB another shot with GU and go absolutely nuts with it as well
I fell in love with this weapon at first sight in mh4u demo i wouldnt get a chance to play 4u until later. But i used it in world and now seeing in generations/gu some how made me love my favorite weapon even more. I am calling the sword art giant lightsaber mode now. Thank you capcom for this beast of a weapon.

I feel ya bro. Used sns before (because demon oil rocks). After seeing this, i jump to bushido cb. Now i have over 500 uses. It worths it tho. The fluidity just charms me
It's not that bad. Just remember: In SnS: Charge vials by using A moves during regular combos, R+A when vials glow Switch to axe, use big boom A moves You'll get the hang of it fast
@@motnurky7055 Babby's first Charge Blade pattern! It takes you shockingly far. I still use it if I have a good angle on the monster's head or tail, or if I just wanna blow my phials and land a few solid hits.
Valor style has to be my favorite for the CB. You can get into valor mode super quick and you also get the dope GS fast side step. It's just so much fun to use!
the biggest nerf in my opinion is the inability to charge from corpses in this game unlike other games but you can charge phials from the monster's death animation that and the aed/saed shortcut from shieldbash both missing in this game specifically but restored in world and rise. you still got the sideswing out of a charge but it eats up a phial takes longer to get into position for aed too.
@@ajgrisel Go back to his original charge blade video and when he got into brave mode he only could do the charged sword slash after he did a shield thrust, and was confused when he couldn't do it again when it was by itself.
Love the vids, missed two things. 1, you can shield jab right out of a valor dash. 2, the new finisher to the elemental loop attack, that can be done with the R button.
Basically, Valor CB seems to be for speed runners or for those that like heavy offense, while Alchemy CB is more for casual players. Really good guide btw, GaijinHunter!
Adept Style + full Rustrazor set + Fulgent Annihilator/Gant Blade/Authority Telelblade + 10 KO 3 slot charm + artillery novice = fantastic axe boom boom comfy build. Been trying it out against Savagejho, Rajang, Furious Rajang, Ahtal-Ka, Valstrax, and it is just fun. I've even been able to KO/trip monsters that normally couldn't very easily in Grank hub quests and get to enjoy seeing my teammates wail on the monsters.
If you press X to sword attack out of charging phials, with any shield charge, that strike will get an added phial effect -- kinda like MHW's Condensed Element Slash but with less delay and ONLY for that attack. It even works if you don't have any sword energy to charge!
Just want to throw this out there gaijin,sir u forgot the instant charge attack you can do that by doing a shield thrust press A you'll be able to instant charge and it's super helpful hope this helps to all those valor cb users.....🤗🤗🤗🤗
I went from 3U to World to XX so I thought i had an idea of what CB would be like in older monster hunter. Then several rank 1 quests and an absolutely useless CB tutorial mission later I was wondering how the heck the weapon works. I checked a bunch of written guides and none of them gave accurate info, whenever i tried using the combos listed they didn't work. Randomly though, they WOULD work and for a moment it would feel like i was playing World style CB. Finally a friend linked me this and my reaction was "OOOOHHHH I get it now, there's just a slight issue with how VALOR COMPLETELY CHANGES EVERYTHING."
I definitely need to pick this weapon up and learn Valor mode, it looks insane and like a lot of fun! Would be useful for solo so I don’t have to worry about my friends :) And I’m thinking of going sword and shield or maybe lance as a weapon for team hunts. If I go lance though I’ll use anything I can to make sure the monsters attention is focused on me using the right charms and armor abilities . In the wise words of Reinhardt from Overwatch, “Stand behind me, I will be your shield!”
the fact that valor cb makes it have mhw charged shield and that you can now do aerial super instead of only aerial ultra makes me happy since in mhgen i had a hard time dealing with the changes
im a CB main... but the only styles i could use are guild and valor style learning the advantages and disadvantages of striker style makes me wanna try it even more
he also forget to mention the valor mode sword charge shortcut. press A after shield thrust in valor mode(no need to do valor stance for it when your in valor mode). This was mention in the comments of his XX Charge Blade demo video. I guess he never reads them. He even did it on video by accident and just went meh afterwards. I guess I be finding someone else for the weapon tutorial for GU if he going to miss over stuff.
I'm pretty sure that with Valor, you can sheath cancel to the Super as well with X+A, which gives you a ton of valor gauge. Edit: Yes, you can do a Valor Super. While it's not the end-all-be-all, it doesn't take longer to do than a normal Super. Also, when in Valor mode, you can sheath cancel into a Valor Ultra, which feels much stronger than a normal Ultra, so that might be something to look into.
Im currently using CB as my main weapon, but as MHGU is my first MH game, I do not know which weapon I should spend my resources onto crafting and upgrading, as I do not wish to waste my resources, I hope to get some proper guides as to which weapon and equipments I should craft for CB
I know I'm a but late to the party, but healing phial art was buffed. It will still buff your shield when you do the round slash for the heal. Also, higher levels seem to heal you when you fill your phials as well for a faster heal, though I don't know if that heal is an aoe as well. Further testing is required.
My friend plays support cb by using the phials up thing, the buzzsaw for quick charging, and healing bottle. I’ve had runs at things like alatreon where I literally never have to heal because he can pop a heal out of his ass every 30 seconds
Once you understand the variations that the styles make, it's easy to see what it could do for the next weapon. Then there's 1 video you have to watch per weapon + 100s of fights to get gud at it. I've been rinse-repeating while practicing on this demo. I realize it's gonna be a different animal while having to juggle equips, but I'm looking forward to it.
Nice little tutorial though I personally think the ultimate attack where you use up your phials and charge shield can be great, the down side to me is it's a slow wind up and most of the monsters aren't gonna stay still for you. The way I see it, only use it when the monster is stunned, trapped or exhausted basically if you want a guaranteed hit like you said not an attack really for spamming. Same for energy blade though I'm no expert in the game. I use guild style since that's the one I'm uses to makes it easier to use for me. I can see the healing phial having some use like healing while dealing damage to monsters cause I always take a lot of damage and use up almost all my healing items. In short it all depends how you use them, thats what I believe but like I said I'm no expert I just found about those arts yesterday and I just learned about red shield today from you so yeah.
I use charge blade in world and I absolutely love it. I have a huge obsession with monster Hunter cause I played Tri on the wii but was a little to young to comprehend it. It sucks cause now that I wanna play the older ones I can’t cause there only on Nintendo consoles and I have nun of those. I want a switch so badly
It might be a bit late but give 3DS emulators a try you can play 3u, 4u and XX on them even with some online functionality just make sure to support the series monetarily with future releases.
Hey Gaijin, first of all thank you so much for this video, your tutorials are amazing but I have a question, yesterday while trying Valor CB, when I went into Blue shield and blocked an attack from the Maccao the shield had the same recoil as if it wasn't charged, are the guarding capabilities really the same as standard red shield?
Hopefully a move as cool as the Buzzsaw sword move comes to the newest installment of MH. It’s such a cool move and I have no clue why they never added it in Rise.
One thing you didn’t mention with valor style is that you cant do a charge attack from idle during valor mode but you can go right into the charge after a shield thrust. I love that cause shield thrust is my favorite move in the game.
So still no morph attacks after Adept Guard and Adept Evade? That's a bit disappointing, but it's still so much fun, I won't complain too loudly about it. :)
i’m a gunlance main, and i decided to try this weapon out of pure curiosity, to see if it’s as confusing as everyone says it is. it is lmao- but i’m starting to get the hang of it and this tutorial helped a lot :)
Though I have been using valor for so long that the knowledge won't help that much. Might give adept a try cause having both the cool block and the cool dodge is really cool.

My buddy mains charge blade and I main switch axe. Basically I use an axe that turns into a sword, and he uses a sword that turns into an axe.

It's an auto charge btw, you just need to press A once.

Not really; striker CB is still better, even though valor CB is more interesting. CB is a dead fish in MHGU.

After watching this video a bunch and not giving up finally learn3d how to charge my shield and vials and what discharges are
I went from 3U to World to XX so I thought i had an idea of what CB would be like in older monster hunter. Then several rank 1 quests and an absolutely useless CB tutorial mission later I was wondering how the heck the weapon works. I checked a bunch of written guides and none of them gave accurate info, whenever i tried using the combos listed they didn't work. Randomly though, they WOULD work and for a moment it would feel like i was playing World style CB.
Finally a friend linked me this and my reaction was "OOOOHHHH I get it now, there's just a slight issue with how VALOR COMPLETELY CHANGES EVERYTHING."

I definitely need to pick this weapon up and learn Valor mode, it looks insane and like a lot of fun! Would be useful for solo so I don’t have to worry about my friends :)
And I’m thinking of going sword and shield or maybe lance as a weapon for team hunts. If I go lance though I’ll use anything I can to make sure the monsters attention is focused on me using the right charms and armor abilities . In the wise words of Reinhardt from Overwatch, “Stand behind me, I will be your shield!”

the fact that valor cb makes it have mhw charged shield and that you can now do aerial super instead of only aerial ultra makes me happy since in mhgen i had a hard time dealing with the changes
im a CB main...
but the only styles i could use are guild and valor style
learning the advantages and disadvantages of striker style makes me wanna try it even more

There's also AED Valor cancel attack by pressing Y and X+A.
he also forget to mention the valor mode sword charge shortcut. press A after shield thrust in valor mode(no need to do valor stance for it when your in valor mode). This was mention in the comments of his XX Charge Blade demo video. I guess he never reads them. He even did it on video by accident and just went meh afterwards. I guess I be finding someone else for the weapon tutorial for GU if he going to miss over stuff.

I'm pretty sure that with Valor, you can sheath cancel to the Super as well with X+A, which gives you a ton of valor gauge.
Edit: Yes, you can do a Valor Super. While it's not the end-all-be-all, it doesn't take longer to do than a normal Super. Also, when in Valor mode, you can sheath cancel into a Valor Ultra, which feels much stronger than a normal Ultra, so that might be something to look into.
In fact it charges slower than the roundslash in SnS mode.

Im currently using CB as my main weapon, but as MHGU is my first MH game, I do not know which weapon I should spend my resources onto crafting and upgrading, as I do not wish to waste my resources, I hope to get some proper guides as to which weapon and equipments I should craft for CB
I know I'm a but late to the party, but healing phial art was buffed. It will still buff your shield when you do the round slash for the heal. Also, higher levels seem to heal you when you fill your phials as well for a faster heal, though I don't know if that heal is an aoe as well. Further testing is required.
So excited for the mhr update that I'm just watching all this old stuff to satiate myself.
My friend plays support cb by using the phials up thing, the buzzsaw for quick charging, and healing bottle. I’ve had runs at things like alatreon where I literally never have to heal because he can pop a heal out of his ass every 30 seconds
So one thing I don't think he mentioned is, you can do a shield jab out of a valor evade, then chain it into a charge slash.
I just wish I didn’t have to watch 7 hours of these videos to understand every style for every weapon in this game damn
Once you understand the variations that the styles make, it's easy to see what it could do for the next weapon.
Then there's 1 video you have to watch per weapon + 100s of fights to get gud at it. I've been rinse-repeating while practicing on this demo. I realize it's gonna be a different animal while having to juggle equips, but I'm looking forward to it.
The only weapon that has ever just made sense for me.
Something to note which I’ve found: it’s possible to get the yellow charge in adept style by using the ripper shield
Nice little tutorial though I personally think the ultimate attack where you use up your phials and charge shield can be great, the down side to me is it's a slow wind up and most of the monsters aren't gonna stay still for you. The way I see it, only use it when the monster is stunned, trapped or exhausted basically if you want a guaranteed hit like you said not an attack really for spamming. Same for energy blade though I'm no expert in the game. I use guild style since that's the one I'm uses to makes it easier to use for me. I can see the healing phial having some use like healing while dealing damage to monsters cause I always take a lot of damage and use up almost all my healing items.
In short it all depends how you use them, thats what I believe but like I said I'm no expert I just found about those arts yesterday and I just learned about red shield today from you so yeah.

I love this weapon. I main it in World so it's fun to see how it plays on Generation.

I use charge blade in world and I absolutely love it. I have a huge obsession with monster Hunter cause I played Tri on the wii but was a little to young to comprehend it. It sucks cause now that I wanna play the older ones I can’t cause there only on Nintendo consoles and I have nun of those. I want a switch so badly

It might be a bit late but give 3DS emulators a try you can play 3u, 4u and XX on them even with some online functionality just make sure to support the series monetarily with future releases.
Hey Gaijin, first of all thank you so much for this video, your tutorials are amazing but I have a question, yesterday while trying Valor CB, when I went into Blue shield and blocked an attack from the Maccao the shield had the same recoil as if it wasn't charged, are the guarding capabilities really the same as standard red shield?
It stinks that they nerfed the SAED in Generations Ultimate. It was a beast to use back in 4U.

Hopefully a move as cool as the Buzzsaw sword move comes to the newest installment of MH. It’s such a cool move and I have no clue why they never added it in Rise.

One thing you didn’t mention with valor style is that you cant do a charge attack from idle during valor mode but you can go right into the charge after a shield thrust. I love that cause shield thrust is my favorite move in the game.
So still no morph attacks after Adept Guard and Adept Evade? That's a bit disappointing, but it's still so much fun, I won't complain too loudly about it. :)

i’m a gunlance main, and i decided to try this weapon out of pure curiosity, to see if it’s as confusing as everyone says it is.

Wow. I've used charge blade for so long and never knew about yellow shield...
Though I have been using valor for so long that the knowledge won't help that much. Might give adept a try cause having both the cool block and the cool dodge is really cool.
