Hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! :) Sorry for the delay, work was extremely busy and any time I did have to edit was hindered by my allergies and not being able to record. Let me know if you would like to see any other weapons covered in detail! All important links are in the description and if you only want mixed sets and the top greatswords then you can skip to 13:05 :)
No need for an apology! Really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Lots of my friends are still new to MHGU and this video will really help them out (myself included!). As for other weapons, would love to see you cover Charge Blade, Long Sword and Dual Blades!
I know this video is really old now but thank you so much for it. I never liked playing Greatsword in 3U, 4U or World, but this made me try both Adept and Valor for GU and I ended up LOVING IT. Like I've seen other comments say, your GU content is excellent and I would love to see more from you some day.
The double swipe from Alchemy Style is AMAZING for those annoying kill small monsters missions or for monsters that tend to swarm you with their homies. (Looking at you, Gypceros and Iodrome in the Swamp)
Im new to GU (40hrs) and had been playing guild style GS. First monster that gave me trouble was khezu. Switched to adept and totally flipped the odds in my favor, thanks a ton for this guide. You da man. All the best, and happy hunting (:
This is awesome work. This kind of higher-level guide is sorely missing online. Thank you for taking the time to research and lay it out so well. Cheers!
14:16 - Basically, the perfect Valor GS comfort set. If you somehow get that Sheath Sharpen 10 OOO before maxing out the Ahtal-Ka GS, the Authority Viator is an alternative to hold you until then. 300 Attack, 25% affinity, 3 slots and very generous natural purple. It would also work extremely well on that Challenger/Crit Eye/WEX/Crit Boost/Focus set. With Challenger +2 active, you're always scoring crits on weak spots when the monster is enraged, 90% of the time on weak spots when not enraged, 60% of the time on weak spots when not enraged, and 45% of the time on non-weak spots on a not-enraged monster. Not sure if the mantis' sword's 30 raw over the Viator overpowers it, but it's definitely still viable. As an added bonus, you don't need anything especially rare to forge it, except for the Red Dragon Mindstone and Fey Wyvern Gem for their earlier levels. You can easily get a Red Dragon Mindstone by bringing a VE Golden Ticket to the Veggie Elder when you're at the Ruined Pinnacle. Some of the DLC item packs came with a number of these, as well as VE Cosmic Tickets. As for the Fey Wyvern Gem, just do the subquest the G1* quest "Ruined Pinnacle, RUINED" which is to hunt a Great Maccao. In fact, there's TWO in that quest. To maximize your chances, wound their heads (10% chance of getting one) and make them drop shinies (2% chance of getting one) as much as possible, then once both are dead/captured, end via subquest. You can also try doing the G-rank version of "Harvest Tour: Verdant Hills" and hunt the Velocidrome that's guaranteed to appear. Be sure to kill it, as your chances of getting the Gem are higher from carving than from capturing.
Thanks for explaining that bit about the hunter arts not activating immediately, discovered that problem for myself recently but it's nice to have concrete evidence and a workaround for it
I hope this becomes a video series that you do. Fun stuff like using the MH community to get references for gameplay is awesome, and if you could get interviews with those top level hunters for each weapon would be really cool. The editing was also really cool and the essay style made it easy to follow. I do miss the jokes and stuff, but having the easy to follow flow of the vid helps a lot with all of the information. 10/10 good stuff dude, that was awesome!
These kind of videos was exactly what the community needs more of, really liked it! Well edited, memed and researched! I think most of the info is also available in the reddit compendiums, but these are older than the western release and unknown to most, so I'm very happy to see someone make good videos about it. The ricardo GS opening got me really good! :)
A very underrated greatsword is the barroth smasher, which is my alternative to skeletal GS and noble scar everytime I want quicksheath. It has 370 raw and natural white sharpness + 1 slot. With a quick sheath + 10 ooo you can get following set: Quick sheath, Crit Draw, Crit Boost, Weakness Exploit, Focus. If you can build sharpness+ 2 over Weakness Exploit, the Bone GS is even better but that requires a god charm...
I’ve been a stout believer of Adept Greatsword since the buff (I used it for shits and giggles in Gen) and I’m glad to see more sets get use, even my boi Avidya. Props man, this is definitely the best next level video after a basic rundown of the attacks themselves.
Your videos have single handedly brought me back to MHGU after a couple month break. If you were going to do another video like this, I think hammer would be a really cool weapon to see!
Nicolas Arango actually my man. The Akantor godsword is still really solid if you can stay in blue sharpness and reach 100% crit :) ruclips.net/video/67sAM5qcKMc/видео.html
To people who use the forward charge in Valor style, stop charging to lv3, THEN lunging, you actually continue charging during the lunge, so you overcharge. Wait until lv2 charge, then lunge and you'll be lv3 by the time you hit instead of overcharging and going back to a lv2 hit. And yes, it's possible to overcharge unlike normal strong charge in other styles which doesn't power down, don't get those two mixed up, Valor's weakness is that it charges so fast it's easy to overcharge.
Dude, I fckng love you. You are pretty much the only big MH youtuber that keeps trying to show some love to MHGU. Everybody else has just forgotten about this game and only talk about World.
Unfortunately the only two good things that the Grimclaw armor gives is Crit Draw and maybe HG Earplugs, these sets in the vid are essential way up above that
Especially a build to run our old unlimited Demon Riot mode. I haven't played around with it enough, but I think either Striker or Alchemy style with the Composed skill and the Silverwind SA MIGHT be enough to counter act the Energy Charge nerf to keep it going.
Really nice to see MHGU content and yours is top notch. I personally went through G-rank using aerial gs and I'm excited to how good aerial gs is in world. If anyone has any references let me know because I loved aerial gs despite how one dimensional the gameplay was
I used to like your old videos... but im so glad that u started to make these new type of cam-based videos its really informative and engaging. Keep up the great work!
Yes!! I’m so glad MHGU is getting some love still, the games only 9 months old & it’s like people act like it’s some old ass game..I used to be a GS main but now I mix it up with everything, but maybe I’ll go back to GS 🤔 either way thanks for the video (do CB & swax) 👍
People act like that mainly because of the appearances, they think to make a "good game" you need over the top graphics and animations as fluid as water..
Your personality and humor really show through your editing. Love it Thank you for this and the mhw to gu comparison videos. Theyre exactly what I was looking for.
Ayeee great content. There's a setting in switch in game where you can change the button combination for hunter arts to (if i remember) first art is combination L A B, 2nd art is ZL, 3rd art is ZR. You can change the position of the art to 2nd art or 3rd art simply go to equip box and go to striker style, remove all the art then go to 2nd slot and equip evasion or the art you want. Then change to Valor or adept or Aerial and Ta Da! Your hunter art will be in the 2nd slot so you can press ZL to dodge easier.
I’ve been playing Monster Hunter since 3 Ultimate and this is one of first videos where I understand what’s going on and I learned something new. Glad I came across this channel.
Fantastic video! The tips are helpful, the music fit like a glove, and video seemed pretty all encompassing when it comes to this weapon. Probably the best MH guide I've ever seen on YT.
I've been trying to learn greatsword after wanting to take a break from being a filthy Longsword main 😅 (Hater's words, not mine). I was doing okay practicing the basic hit-and run strat using aerial, but it was getting kinda repetitive. I tried running adept GS but I could tell I was doing something wrong when I keep getting hit during my strong charge. So I wanted extra help with advanced guides to see if I could learn anything new. Which led me to your video! It's been a huge help. Headsniping is such a useful tip that helps with hitting monsters 100% of the time. So I'm gonna put in more practice in getting it down. Thanks for all your help. It's been truly worth watching! 😁👌🏾
I really like all of your videos and this one is no exception! I found it very informative and I liked how you explained each style strenght and weakness. It made me really interested in trying adept GS for the different playstile that it offers. Keep up the good work and I hope you are able to do long sword next!
Will likely never play MHGU (I wasn't a huge fan of generations to begin with, and with Iceborne on PC now I have no other MH games I want to play right now anyway), but I just watch your guides because I find them interesting and they're entertaining to me. Definitely subbed, you're a great youtuber and I hope you gain tons of subscribers in the future. You really deserve them.
Rerun the game just couple of weeks back before rise to get some rust off. Got interested in GS all of a sudden and I remember you got a vid for it. Damn, all these tips help out great! Props sir. (Also I check your stuff out when I was starting GU during quarantine lol)
Thank you so much for these videos, man. I just got GU last week and beat the final boss (transferred my high rank file from my 3DS lol I didn't speedrun this). More than in any other Monster Hunter, I had no idea what to do once the main story was finished so thank you for giving me some goals to work towards.
I appreciate guides like yours and Griffted's that go into attack geometry. Makes me want to do one for Lance. Shame nobody's interested in the game where Lance peaked in terms of gameplay (4U) anymore.
im not really commenting on the video itself but bless you for making mhgu vids still. i like world but i dont love it as much as the other games so your channel is one of the things that keeps me into mh thanks homie
Good news for fighting Bloodbath and the vanilla variant, the tail to the small ridge under the legs are another weakspot for them, so if you can’t head snipe them consistently, aim for the tail for the exact same damage output
Best MH(GU) channel. I am SO HAPPY, that I discovered you yesterday. While you wait for iceborn: advanced longsword guide maybe? ':)) love your videos, keep em coming.
22:16 i'm surprised i don't see more people mentioning the bone splitter (basic bone GS). it has top tier raw (360) and purple at sharp+2 focus, sharp+2, crit boost, and crit draw gives 700.56 efr on your draw attacks, and the charm is very easily accessible: any of the four skills at +2/+3 with 3 slots
I really appreciate this video. I’m starting to get to the point in MHGU where I’m getting bored with my main weapon, so this series will help me see what each weapon can do at their best. Keep it up!
Nakarkos GS is actually 3rd place for raw hit and run greatsword. Chivalry gets 10 more raw with the exact same set. Bloodbath has 10 less but gets purple with sharpness +2 and is a deviant weapon. You might need better charms to make it work but Bloodbath can hit higher EFR and charge your gauges faster. All 3 are bad if you aren't hitting weak spots consistently. Nargacuga GS for strong charge or enemies with no easy weakpoints, final boss or bloodbath for everything else.
Great video! I need to show this to my friends who are new to MHGU. It's truly a shame about Aerial Great Sword. It looks so cool when I first saw it in the trailer but it's pretty boring to use it. Anyway, Valor and Adept are super, super awesome! I absolutely love Valor forward charge attack in particular!
Here’s a GS that has potential The hyper Tetsucabra GS, the Milli Stone Bereaver has similar stats to the Nak bone sword, but has 360 raw with purple sharpness at +1. You can use the same set that the Nak bone sword uses for the Millistone bereaver if your struggling with farming G rank Nakarakos, or are fighting a monster with shitty hit zones. And for those curious, there’s 1.6 points of attack difference between the two with only calculating displayed damage, and the sharpness modifier with +1. If you want to run the calculations with the whole set, please do so and report your findings to me, as for all I know this information can be complete doodoo
Watching a year and a half later, wishing videos like this came out for other weapons. Got GU super late and there's still a lack of quality content like this
this is a really old video but aerial style being the weakest is crazy to me because its still so powerful, greatsword must just be an overpowered weapon all around
Hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! :) Sorry for the delay, work was extremely busy and any time I did have to edit was hindered by my allergies and not being able to record. 9:18 Styles in summary
9:49 Positioning & head sniping

This channel is so underrated. Great vid man it really helped.
Agreed
We are lacking quality vids for GU like yours , the way you explain is the most effective. Looking forward for other weapon guides
my dude I don't even play MHGU but I love watching your vids.
Go play GU

Finally got mhgu and got into greatsword, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
Nice vid, but I'll still use my Akantor GS Blunt set, even if it's not optimal. It just feels and looks good

Hey, your vidéo is great ! I have a question :D
Does the Grimjaw Tigrex armor is a good build for the Valiant Greatsword style ?
Unfortunately the only two good things that the Grimclaw armor gives is Crit Draw and maybe HG Earplugs, these sets in the vid are essential way up above that
Mdr salut Alkor
Beastly video. Top class. I know it's kinda boring in GU but I'd still like to see a detailed swagaxe video.
Especially a build to run our old unlimited Demon Riot mode. I haven't played around with it enough, but I think either Striker or Alchemy style with the Composed skill and the Silverwind SA MIGHT be enough to counter act the Energy Charge nerf to keep it going.
You can super cheese the Nakarkos with Aerial GS, so it has *some* use.
its nice for fatalis fights too since fatalis keeps his head so high all the time
Holy shit, I've been planning on getting into GS for a change of pace (SnS main), and this video is perfect. Thanks for your hard work Herny!

Impossible not to bop your head to that Persona 5 soundtrack.

That gore Magala knock down was clean af
Optionally, you can use the corleonis set on the hyper Testucabra GS, since that’s a 360 raw with purple at sharpness +1
Excited to see the hammer iteration of this series
Great video! Made the black set, and it’s amazing. Keep it up my dude
solid choice in music! thanks for the guide! 🌠
Thank you a lot for the guide! I'm trying to learn GS in MHXX and this helped me a lot with "what to focus on"
also, love the ending song
Best intro i ve ever seen

focus, sharp+2, crit boost, and crit draw gives 700.56 efr on your draw attacks, and the charm is very easily accessible: any of the four skills at +2/+3 with 3 slots
John Smiff - Would you consider that the best Great Sword for most Monsters?
@@NYCJoeBlack not the "best", but certainly up there and comparable to many of the sets in the video for crit draw play

Welcome back broski, awesome vid as usual
I really appreciate this video. I’m starting to get to the point in MHGU where I’m getting bored with my main weapon, so this series will help me see what each weapon can do at their best. Keep it up!
awesome video. been waiting like forever. thanks herny!
Its always a great day when herny upload! Amazing guide bro! Tremendus work as always 👍👍👍
Well i am one of the 2% of people who use aerial style. Its my favorite tho
Me too bro
I personally found this very helpful! Thanks Bro!
I mostly came for the mix sets, great video!
you are the mh youtuber i needed in life
I would super love a dual blades one. Great vid!
I spent my whole GS life to Aerial Style and now that I got a proper Understanding I was wrong Thank you, i kinda Late to this but still thanks
Idc that it isnt great, I like aerial GS, so I use it.

It's truly a shame about Aerial Great Sword. It looks so cool when I first saw it in the trailer but it's pretty boring to use it. Anyway, Valor and Adept are super, super awesome! I absolutely love Valor forward charge attack in particular!
Yo, edit at 11:31 clean as frick
liked your bgm selection, nice vid

Such an amazing video!! M new to gs, n your and gaijins vid is just every thing I needed ;v;
Fantastic channel dude 💯
this is a really old video but aerial style being the weakest is crazy to me because its still so powerful, greatsword must just be an overpowered weapon all around
