  • Almost everyone doing acrylic paint pouring wants to create big multi-color cells. Whether you are using the Sheleeart bloom technique, the swipe, a flip cup with silicone, or anything in between, using paints with different densities is the key to creating cell and lacing.

I made my first pour yesterday, after studying a lot of your videos and my main issue points (aside from a hair drier that wasn't strong enough) were all to do with paint density, and my white that sank to the bottom, like one of your other videos. Me too in being right-brained gal; not so scientifically blessed (understatement!). I love how I can learn how science of mixing right type paints will, for instance, create cells even w/o silicone.
My problem is that I ficus & it all makes sense...until the end. When I try to put it in my own words for notes, or recall what ya' said -- it's all "jumbly" in my head. I hate that!
What I got (now) to recall upon trying is just:
"Heavy paints go down & light paints go up...then magic happens & cells show up!"
Sonehow, I think I missed sonething!?!

Thank you for this video and for the Acrylic Paint Density chart. You did so much work! I was surprised that even the Dutch brands that I use are in the chart. And looking at the densities answered a question that I had. I now understand why colors sometimes disappear in my paintings. It's because of the light density of my base paint (Talens Art Creation Ivory Black). A very useful video, thank you!

Glad to help. Just keep in mind that density controls movement of paint BUT cells have the added issue where the quality of the paint, the sheen, and the fillers that the brand uses can increase or decrease cells. That it why amsterdam paint cell way better than other brands. Those other factors AND the density.

    ??? Question???
Have you ever done a video on making fractal/dendrite art? I only discovered this form of painting yesterday and I'm enthralled by it!
