I’m so grateful for you LBA. I’m sure I speak for many when I say how thankful I am that you share all of these tips and tricks without a dollar sign attached to it. Thanks a million! ❤
What I liked about this is that you showed the wrong way immediately before showing the right way, so we can see the difference. Happy Saturday to me!!
I go down into my studio/garage determined to get the Dutch pour figured out. After a couple of hours of frustrating experimenting, I decided to stop and review the Dutch pour videos again. Lo and behold when I open RUclips, up pops this perfect video. Thanks Left.
It is frustrating! It’s the most difficult method for me as well! I think I’m going to try paint and water and LB suggestion on holding the blow dryer! I even slowed down how I was holding the blow dryer to try and figure out what I was doing wrong! My paints were too thick though.
Wow! Learned so much. Cannot tell you how many videos I watch of Dutch pouring but no one explains as you do - even the angle for the dryer! Thank you so much for all you do❣
I just love that painting I have tried twice to do it and I just messed up both of my canvases so I don't know what I'm doing I try over and over to make it just as you are with the lines I don't have a problem with that but not the lines and everything but then when I get ready to blow dry it it just goes everywhere I am doing it's so wrong and it's aggravating so then I took my canvases and I did it with a balloon so I wouldn't completely lose my money of my paint and my canvas and it took up the whole campus I'm just not satisfied is there any way at all you can give me a tip on how to do it easier or anything at all for a first coming I'd really appreciate it and thank you so much for putting your art out out there it's really beautiful... Love to watch you make it and I love the outcome very beautiful
Your video is GOLD! I learned now that so far I had not reached the right consistency in my last 3 weeks of trying. I just so agree with the comment of PCORNELL3410. Bless you! Thank you so much for saving us frustration and paint! LOL!
The hairdryer was my white whale for the longest time. Thank you for including the HOW to blow. That was something that escaped me for the longest time. Dutch Pours are all I can do at the moment, so videos like this are incredibly helpful! Thank you.
I've been struggling with dutch pours for weeks and kept adjusting this and adjusting that to no avail - even bought a different hair dryer to rule that out. Turns out, it was not only my consistency but also my technique. THANK YOU for your detailed explanation!!!!!!!! I finally got what i wanted last night after watching this & your vid on consistency. I am so grateful!!
This is a great tutorial! So many "tutorials" just show the artist making art (which is beneficial, but not a true teaching tool). You are logical, you go step by step, you are a great teacher! More videos please!
I have done acrylic pour for 20 years...thought I knew it all till I came across your channel. Now its nice to know why things are done and how they work together...THANKS
I'm glad you popped up on my RUclips! You are now my go-to for everything acrylic paint! Your instructions are the best I have ever seen. This is an actual class! You brought me out of my acrylic funk. Thank you!
I want to thank you. I REALLY appreciate and enjoy your channel (meaning your work). Until I found your channel, I was unable to create the right paint viscosity to make these kinds of paints. I wasted a lot of paint and quit for a while. But your channel inspired me to try again!! YOU taught me a reliable way to test viscosity BEFORE pouring the paint on the canvas and wasting it, again!!!❤️ You also helped me improve my blowdryer techniques! This is probably the fourth time I am watching this video. Each time I watch it, I pick up another helpful piece of information! I still struggle with picking colors, but the small successes I have had in that area also can be credited to YOUR videos…you explained how to read the paint labels, how to avoid transparent paint next to transparent paint, how complimentary colors need a color between them (I use white) to keep them from mixing to brown… Seriously, I could go on and on!! The reason I think you have been able to teach me more than the other wonderful artists out there because I am left-brained, too. The other artists are extremely talented and obviously wonderful teachers, but I do not always leave their videos understanding what I came there to learn, like right-brained people do. Viva la difference! The world would be boring it we were all the same. Thank you for teaching me in my 50’s!!❤❤ Request: If you could teach me how to pick colors that will always go well together, I would watch that video 1000 times! Most people seem to be able to “just see” what colors work together. Alas, I am not one of those lucky people! I bought an advanced color wheel chart that has a cutout placed on top of the color wheel to help you find five colors that are pleasing to the eye. That has helped, but I am sure you could break it down the concepts for me in a way that I actually understand how to pick colors! Would you consider doing a video like this??
Thank you so much for this!!!!!! Finally someone stopped to slow it down and fully do a “how to”. I’ve been trying to perfect for about six months now. I now see where I’m going wrong. Thanx a kazillion!
You are my go to Guru. Haven't tried this technique yet. Just a month in and loving it. I am using my wife's computer. I AM 77 years old and have a lot of time on my hands. Pouring has taken time away from Netflix and reading apocalypse books. LOL sometimes I stop in the middle of a poor and come to you to watch what you would do. I am determined to get to the point where I am not cringing every time I am making a poor. I am all using acrylic paper because I figured if it was acrylic paper it would do the job. Going out today to get watercolor paper. I tried soaking the acrylic paper before using it and it doesn't crinkle quite as bad but still more than I want, but about as bad as the cheap canvases I started out with. Then I went to canvas board and it bowed in the middle. I am still going to try the lacquer you suggested on the canvas board. You are the man.
I really want to to thank you for all of your tutorials. I learned so much more about pouring with you than I did with a course I payed quite a bunch for. As a beginner it’s quite a challenge to know the consistency needed, how to do it and so on (honey 😉😅) the blow over and out.... so now I am addicted to your tutorials. What you do for us is really amazing, a huge thank you for all the advices you give, it makes my life so much easier.
You are so welcome Chantal. Glad to help. I think some of us just need a completely different way to learn. I am not a natural at this and what works for Olga, and Molly, and those ladies just doesn't work for me.
I'm a newbie, and am not really interested in this technique right now. BUT, I'm watching, liking, and commenting... (and even watched the ads!!! LOL) BECAUSE I KNOW you had to have put SO MUCH time and energy into this in order to create this video for us... And for that, I'm thankful! ....in case I change my mind down the line and need to come back to this!! Thank you for all that you do!
Great tutorial, I really mean it. Best I’ve seen yet showing how to prepare for a Dutch pour using a hair dryer. Today I mixed my paints ready to do the big experience tomorrow. I’ve tried and tested a few of your other videos and wow 🤩 suddenly I can do it. I’ve found your paint calculator more then valuable too, makes it so much easier knowing how much you need in advance. It’s also very helpful when you click on the thick, medium and thin paint a box appears telling you what consistency to mix to. Excellent, I can’t say enough good things about my experiences. Your the best!
It's gorgeous, very helpful re the blower angles and starting above the canvas, and the consistencies. I have noticed too thick turns into bumpy rippled skins on the surface. Not what I was looking for. Your left brain and eye for beauty combo is such a gift to us and I appreciate the great organization and care you take in your presentations.
Thank you. I learned my paint was too thick and I was digging in with my blower. Thank you for teaching us how to do it right- solves me learning by mistakes. I appreciate you
Outstanding and perfect timing for me - this week I have been focused on doing dutch pours. And you take all the artists you watch, and bring everything in to your tutorial. Extremely helpful! THANKS!
@@LeftBrainedArtist Well I've done pieces four days in a row. Actually Day #1 was probably best, and Day #3. Limited cells, but today none! Tip - modifying really makes a difference turning a piece you don't like into something very interesting!
You're explanation of what you like about your dryer is just what I needed to hear. I have a lot of them(30+ years in the beauty industry) but not one has the right concentrator nozzle. Now I know why its such a struggle! Thanks 😊
This one is a little powerful too. I need to find another good one that has smaller motor for my smaller pieces or when I want a smaller area of paint moved.
I am a newbie.. I want to let you know that how grateful I am to have viewed your Tips & Tricks video. Now I know what I have been doing incorrectly. Thanks much.
You are the absolute BEST teacher on RUclips! I always turn to your videos when I have a question about painting. I always knew that consistency was key but, nobody explained it like you do! I finally feel like I can do the dutch pour! Trying 1st thing in the morning when I get my son off to school. Wish me luck...lol
I have run across your videos several times and have paused to watch your informative lectures a few times. This video is simply awesome! You go above and beyond to back your point with examples.. tonight the paint flying around with the thin paint had me laughing.. Thanks
That is beautiful! I am a brand new beginner and I really appreciate the way you explain and show everything. I haven't been brave enough to get started yet - but soon!! Thank you for your instructions.
I have been amassing supplies, not unlike soldiers preparing for battle by accumulating all kinds of weapons. I can now say I have poured 4 smallish canvases! I’m not hopelessly in love with them, but I’m getting used to my space, pouring, and making a total mess. I keep sticking a finger or thumb in the painting and messing it up. Tilting isn’t easy. But I’m trying it. By the time I’ve finished 10 or 15 canvases maybe I’ll start to feel comfortable. David has a very down to earth approach that I really like. He answers things I didn’t even know to ask about. So I’m not giving up!
Wow, I really needed your video today, I have been struggling so much with paint consistency and the hair dryer and I didn’t know where I was going wrong and now thanks to you I think I have it figured out! I’m going to go try it right now… Thank you thank you thank you
Thank you very much for the beautiful art composition. Your videos are very easy to understand and right to the point. I enjoy watching it every time. Thanks again.
Another great tutorial! Last week I attempted my first Dutch pour…it didn’t go so well😁 I have been trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and after watching your video it turns out I was doing several things wrong! I look forward to trying again and using the tips you shared! Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Be happy and well!
Thanks so much for your tutorial on how to hold the dryer, you explained why all my mistakes turned out the way they did. I learned so much from you. Appreciate all your help.
As usual loved all your tips David. I've been struggling with this technique too. In addition to consistency I also struggled with how I was holding the hairdryer so I switched to a travel size and found it much easier and a better result (have only used it once so far). I'll have another go today using your tips 😊🙏
Awesome. Getting a lower power one can definitely help but just raising it up a bit and using a very slight angle can do the trick with the full power ones too.
My goodness, thanks for doing this video! I watched others do it so "easily" with the hairdryer, so I went and tried... Well. An olympic mess is what I managed to achieve; splattered room, splattered clothes, hair, face, canvas, plus hairdryer itself... my paint? Was too thick. The canvas? Ended up soupy. It did NOT end as I had intended, Holy Moly. Yours, on the other hand, is absolutely stunning!
Thanks for another great video with helpful information. So need to think of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, needs to be just right! 😂 Will definitely be helpful when I attempt a Dutch pour again. Looks great.
Wow, when you teach it’s like a revelation every time for me . I end up saying oh that’s what I’m doing wrong . Thank you for giving me a better understanding of how to correct my messes .
HEY 👍Thank you! I definitely have a love-hate relationship with the hairdryer… I always want to use it and I always hate what comes out… LOL I only have one question do you keep it on the heat setting or do you hold down the cold button as the dryer is blowing? I actually have some color that I mix last night and I think it’s the right consistency but I didn’t produce any cells… You know where I get my cells is right on the edge of the canvas and whether tipping the canvas or blowing the canvas or using the hairdryer(trying to anyway) those cells always have to come off the canvas because there’s so much paint in the middle of the canvas… So I know I can get cells I just can’t get it where I want them… I actually agree with you I think Molly is one of the best artist that uses the hairdryer… She can do one sweep and it blows your mind! And Kanella I always like how she places the paint on a canvas in that Y design… maybe you have another question would you have been able to salvage the first canvas that was too thick the reason I asked that is because I like the bold colors and you also had a good composition starting… And the one with the correct consistency the last one I often wondered can I add Paint even after I basically was done but there was one section that needed something more… I guess I actually have a Lotta questions lol Saturday is my painting day I dedicate the whole day to destroying my kitchen there’s a few times in the middle of the week in the middle of the night that all get up and start fiddling around mixing colors seeing if what I think will go together actually well I don’t use a color wheel color just comes naturally to me and I haven’t been doing this very long it’s only been four or five months with this type of medium I’ve been painting all my life so picking out colors is not my issue But in all that time only one painting the colors that I put together did not go … I think my biggest issue is composition and second is cells… But I’d like this type of medium and that’s basically because I do not become attached to the painting… Traditional painting you put in so much time and effort basically blood sweat and tears that after it’s done I won’t let anyone have it… So basically I am a hoarder… I know and I understand that everything is an experiment and a suggestion I always try to keep that in mind before I start thanks for the video I guess I’m going to use my hairdryer today👍✌️🤪
@@LeftBrainedArtist thanks no heat I got one done today but not enough negative space … I’ll keep trying and I’ll keep watching I know I’m not doing the right recipe for the cell activator
One more time a big thanks.... Now I know, why my paint doesn't move like I want..... You are great. Thank you for your helpful informations und comparisons 🙏
Amazing, finally I was able to find the right video. I am a physician by profession but like to do some artwork as a stress reliever. The tips you gave are amazing I will try to work on that. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this tutorial - so many helpful tips. I've just started paint pouring and this really helped with paint consistency and how to handle a hairdryer.
Wow! Thank you for making sense of it all. You explain so well what needs to be done. I’ve not started yet but now that I have watched a few of your videos it won’t be long before I get going. Appreciate your time helping me. Have a great day 😄
Omg finally someone who is sharing and teaching. You are truly wonderful for helping someone like me who is super new to this and I can’t thank you enough. Love that I can see a beautiful blue eye and sweeping fringe in the too thick canvas. Thank you for sharing.
I just wanted to thank you VERY much for this life changing video! 😂 At least my life: you’re saving me money, paint, canvas, all the things 😏 You just solved every issue i was having!
Thanks so much. It is interesting how just starting out with a baseline like that and then making small changes for your particular circumstances can make all the difference on your pours.
Partly because of you i started trying to dutch pour and by the way i am ditching the house paint that might even be complicating my issues with paint. Thanks for all the advice.
Very nice indeed and instructive. I use Australian Floetrol (I live in Australia so it is readily available) but instead of coating my paintings with resin I use straight Floetrol after the painting has dried. It gives a resin-like finish and I haven't noticed any surface problems such a cracking and clouding on paintings I did years ago.
This is beautiful, I'm gonna try this tonight ☺️ thank you for explaining, I've had good and bad pours with this technique and I knew what I was doing wrong but you've shown exactly how to do it right too 😊
Thank you for the too thick/thin explained, as well as the hairdryer angle. I will def try again, now that I've watched this, as my first attempt did not go so well. 😜
Wow, love the look of these pours, I'm learning so much from your tutorials, thank you for sharing all your knowledge, so informative, I will definitely try one of these as I progress through your tutorials 😊
I have trouble with paint to thick and thin and not really knowing the difference but now since your video I finally understand and see the difference, thank you so much you've saved me time and money not to mention a lot of frustration. Can't say thank you enough.
Thank you for the best and most informative video I have seen of a Dutch pour and blowing out with a hair dryer, I am truly grateful you made this video.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I am sure it will be a huge help when I try one for myself. I have been wanting to do one but was feeling confused by all the conflicting information in videos I had watched. Please keep making your clear, easy to follow videos. You sure have clarified things for this old lady living in Australia.
Thank you so much for explaining everything so well I'm just now learning to do this and I really like the designs of how you do this technique here but I've been having a hard time.
I’m so grateful for you LBA. I’m sure I speak for many when I say how thankful I am that you share all of these tips and tricks without a dollar sign attached to it. Thanks a million! ❤

You are so welcome Billie. You really do need to start. That is where the learning and the love really begin.
Thank you so much for your COLD and HOT hairdryer reply. Finally I got the answer
Glad to help Ashy.
Wow, I really needed your video today, I have been struggling so much with paint consistency and the hair dryer and I didn’t know where I was going wrong and now thanks to you I think I have it figured out! I’m going to go try it right now… Thank you thank you thank you
You are so welcome!
Thank you very much for the beautiful art composition. Your videos are very easy to understand and right to the point. I enjoy watching it every time. Thanks again.
Thank you so much Natalya 😀
Another great tutorial! Last week I attempted my first Dutch pour…it didn’t go so well😁 I have been trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and after watching your video it turns out I was doing several things wrong! I look forward to trying again and using the tips you shared! Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Be happy and well!
You can do it for sure Melissa.
Thanks so much for your tutorial on how to hold the dryer, you explained why all my mistakes turned out the way they did. I learned so much from you. Appreciate all your help.
Glad to be of service Pam. Good luck with the next one.
Your explanations are super great :)
Thanks! 😃 Happy pouring Sylvia.
Thank you thank you. I’ve been watching videos struggling to pinpoint my errors. I was so close to accepting defeat. I’m excited for my next attempt 🤞
You got this Sasha. Let me know how I can help!
Will try the travel size blow dryer.
Glad I could help Meret. It's all about the practice and learning the lessons from others hopefully to cut down our learning time.
Thanks for another great video with helpful information.
So need to think of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, needs to be just right! 😂
Will definitely be helpful when I attempt a Dutch pour again.
Looks great.
Any time Mary. Always glad to help.
Wow, when you teach it’s like a revelation every time for me . I end up saying oh that’s what I’m doing wrong . Thank you for giving me a better understanding of how to correct my messes .
Glad to help Linda. We all go through this unfortunately.
No heat. It dries the paint out too much.
@@LeftBrainedArtist thanks no heat I got one done today but not enough negative space … I’ll keep trying and I’ll keep watching I know I’m not doing the right recipe for the cell activator
I have learned so much about Dutch Pour from you this morning. Thank you so much for posting these videos and helping x
Happy to help Shivonne. Let me know if you have more questions.
Anyone else see a cat face slightly right of centre at 15:19 ?
Lol. Now I can't unsee that.
Great stuff! You have a very masculine way of doing this art/poring. And as a guy I appreciate it.
Thanks Corry. I try to be as analytical as possible.
One more time a big thanks.... Now I know, why my paint doesn't move like I want..... You are great. Thank you for your helpful informations und comparisons 🙏
Happy to help!
Amazing, finally I was able to find the right video. I am a physician by profession but like to do some artwork as a stress reliever. The tips you gave are amazing I will try to work on that. Thanks again.
Glad to help Nida. I am the same way. Software developer here.
I always wondered why you put white on either side and then cover up your paint! This helped. Thanks!
You're welcome. Thanks for you comment Jana. It actually gave me a great follow up video idea.
You sure understand paint, movement, technique etc and so articulate! Thanks so much, sir!
Wow, thank you J.
Thank you so much for this tutorial - so many helpful tips. I've just started paint pouring and this really helped with paint consistency and how to handle a hairdryer.
You are so welcome Anna. Glad it was helpful.
Thank you, great video explaining consistency & how to hold the blow dryer. Your Dutch Pour turned out beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for showing this, I have been frustrated even as I have spending hours watching videos how to mix .
Save us a lot of time!

My pleasure Liz. Glad to help.

Glad it helped Karla.
I am just now seeing your videos...thanks so much for your down-to-earth explanations!!!
You are so welcome Karen. Glad to help.
Thank you so much for the instruction on how to use the blow dryer that helped tremendously
Glad to help Rhonda. How did your pour go?
man consistency is the key to this form of artwork!!! That is my problem area!!
It is the #1 thing to learn for sure.
The way you fixed the white area was genius!
Thanks Rhonda. These are always tough to decide what to do.
thanks for talking about how to hold the hair dryer and how thickness is important
You are so welcome Bonnie. Takes a little practice and every blow dryer will be slightly differnet but it makes a big difference for the dutch pour.
Wow! Thank you for making sense of it all. You explain so well what needs to be done. I’ve not started yet but now that I have watched a few of your videos it won’t be long before I get going. Appreciate your time helping me. Have a great day 😄
You are so welcome! Let me know how it goes when you start Christine.
Omg finally someone who is sharing and teaching. You are truly wonderful for helping someone like me who is super new to this and I can’t thank you enough. Love that I can see a beautiful blue eye and sweeping fringe in the too thick canvas. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome to hear Julie. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
I know this is 2 years old, but i'm gonna try a dutch pour again. I almost had it, but got mad and swiped it. thank you!!!
Let me know how I can help you or if you hand any questions that didn't get answered Lisa.
Excellent tips! Especially on how to handle the blow dryer. Thanks so much!
So glad it was helpful Yvonne. Good luck!
I just wanted to thank you VERY much for this life changing video! 😂 At least my life: you’re saving me money, paint, canvas, all the things 😏 You just solved every issue i was having!
Oh man. Thanks for the note. I appreaciate it and glad I was able to help you.
The tip on how to use the blow dryer was excellent thank you. Your final painting turned out lovely.
Thanks so much. It is interesting how just starting out with a baseline like that and then making small changes for your particular circumstances can make all the difference on your pours.
Thanks for the information about how to use the dryer blower I like the information that you share
Glad it was helpful!
Partly because of you i started trying to dutch pour and by the way i am ditching the house paint that might even be complicating my issues with paint. Thanks for all the advice.
No problem at all. I just recommend learning without and then starting to incorporate other things like house paint.
You are a legend, loving how you explain details that can make or break it 🙏
Thank you so much!
Totally did that incorrectly the first time I ever tried this and I still didn’t know what I did wrong, so thank you for explaining this
No problem J D. Glad to help.
Thank you! Thank you so much! Now I understand what my mistakes were!
I'm so glad to hear that.
Thank you for sharing the secrets of the blower. Excellent video i now know where i have been going wrong! UK
Glad to help. let us know if you have any ninja tips to share also Sylvia
Ooh, that is a great tip. Do you know of Aussie floetrol has any UV protectors in it? That would be the only thing I would worry about there.
This is beautiful, I'm gonna try this tonight ☺️ thank you for explaining, I've had good and bad pours with this technique and I knew what I was doing wrong but you've shown exactly how to do it right too 😊
You are so welcome Clare. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you! Definitely the best tutorial I've watched. You really went into the details of the how everything works.
You're very welcome! I am kind of nut when it comes to learning these things.
Thank you for the too thick/thin explained, as well as the hairdryer angle. I will def try again, now that I've watched this, as my first attempt did not go so well. 😜
You can do it Heather. Takes a bit of practice for us all but oh so amazing when you get it.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Thanks for the vote of confidence! ☺️ All I can say is, Thank Goodness for Dollar Tree canvases to practice on!

@@LeftBrainedArtist I am sure it will be a huge help when I try one for myself. I have been wanting to do one but was feeling confused by all the conflicting information in videos I had watched. Please keep making your clear, easy to follow videos. You sure have clarified things for this old lady living in Australia.
Thank you SO much!!! Best instructions I’ve seen so far as a starter.
Thanks Erica. I have to make them as simple as possible so I can understand them too! 😂
@@LeftBrainedArtist Seriously the best, I had too thick of paint and the wrong angles with blowing, I appreciate you!
8:43 How to Position the Hair Dryer?! That tip stopped me in my tracks. I just love the practical information you share on this channel. Thank you!
