Wow…..you made it easy to follow AND so encouraging that I really feel I can take that first step. Where have you been this last year when I’ve watched other artists on my phone?
Enjoy your teaching. I am an oil painter. Learning to pour. What a challenge! I have a tip or cheap canvases. Spay the back with water let dry it will shrink the canvas and make it tight. Hope this is useful...Anne
This is the best tutorial I've seen! Thanks for sharing HOW MUCH of each paint ingredient to use! Going to attempt to do this with nine-year-olds at a birthday party!
I've watched several RUclipss and read several blogs/webpages about pouring, but yours is the FIRST that mentioned a level. Brilliant! Now I don't have to learn that trick only after making one or more disasters - thank you!
You are an amazing teacher. You took it right to the basics and explained and demonstrated everything very clearly. As you said, I have bought all the tools I need and watched many videos, but it's your teachings that have given me the confidence to attempt it now. Thank you for the reminder to note everything down, too. Thank you..Thank you...Thank you.
Thank you very much for the explanation of how thick the color should be. I have never understood what everyone is looking at, when they see the color fall into the cup. Now I am so inspired and now I will finally dare to paint❤️
I been wanting to do this for awhile, but didn't how to get started until came across your video. Thank you so much for explaining it well for a beginner like me. 👍🏻
Where in the heck were you a year ago when I was attempting to learn from the big guns, which was all I could find?...but seriously, thank you for the thoughtful way you teach, not missing anything!. You are not only tall with very long arms 😜, but you are also a very good teacher 🍎
Thanks! I've been painting for a while, but I still learned some great stuff from this. I can't pour today, because my cat will complain. 😆 During lockdown he has become accustomed to have constant access to my lap. Since I paint with a large plastic tub on my sofa (what could go wrong with that) he's decided that the best option is to stare at me with big eyes until the guilt becomes to much and I have to stop painting. So, I paint every other day, to keep the peace. I did paint yesterday and you are totally right, you just have to jump in and see what happens. One of my favourites is actually one I did really early, but every pour is a learning experience, even if I end my session scraping all the paint back off the canvases. And my painting journal is my go to guide for experiments, tracking what worked and what didn't etc.
@@LeftBrainedArtist He has a huge fluffy tail that will get into things from unfathomable distances and occasionally gets in it. His thing is glitter. He loves the stuff. He always has to have some on when I have it out, and I buy my glitter by the kilo, so it's fairly often. The thing is, he's been used to me crafting from when he was young. I sit on the couch with my legs crossed up and he lies on one side and I twist and craft on the other. He could sit on my lap, but I wouldn't be giving him 101% of my attention. He is very entitled and pandered to, hence every other day is a Corvinus Day. I used to have one that would manage to walk through any kind of paint anywhere you put it and looked away for a few moments. We still have a line of white paw prints leading from the cat flap and down the front path. She also tried to stick her head in a bowl of hair dye once, but he managed to stop her, but she did have a pink flash for a bit.
@Dashing Shadowbolt, Love your art stories AND your cat stories!! I'm a beginner at this and I've posted 2 videos so far of my 2 "pour paint" attempts... and yes, my kitty, Adirah, is in the background of both videos, giving some protest that my lap is not currently available during painting time!! 🤣🤣🤣
You must have been a kindergarten teacher in your previous life. Such explicit and relatable instructions not seen in the other videos. You dealt with the regular acrylics that can be bought at the box stores that the regular folks can buy. The other videos use the kind that real artists use and they use the language too. So thank you for being real and for the simplicity of your instructions.
Thanks Eunice. I just have to use language that I understand myself for pouring. I definintely feel like "natural" artists skip steps that us less inclines really need to help us be successful.
I am anne ashley, dans mum. I think you are a brilliant teacher. Clear, explaining everything and thank you , thank you so much. You are wasted. You need to be in serious education , motivating, showing paint pouring but you have a zest and talent to put it over. Every success with whatever you do. Thanks again.
Where was this video when I first started? Excellent teaching for anyone just starting out. Thanks a lot. Really liked the tile and loved that picture you hated and covered. I was screaming at you (in my head) not to cover it ;-)
Thanks Hawk. Sorry I didn't get to it earlier but hopefully it will help some others. A little of that painting shows through now that the pour is dried. Kind of a cool effect actually. Might have to try that as a pour technique some day.
How did you know I've been binge watching pour painting 🤣 okay so time to put it to practice! I'm loving your videos by the way - very helpful. Thanks heaps
Done and done. Son is in his way down and we're about to have some spring break 10:30 pm paint pours. Rock and roll. Thanks my guy, that push legit did it. I've been waiting MONTHS (ok actually since quarantine when I went so fkn extra & bought enough to fill a small art shop lol). Bout dang time. Here we go.... I'm excited! 🙏🎨👩🎨🤍👨🎨🖌️🖼️
You're right, I have been binge watching but this is hands down the best one I've watched too learn what to do, also it's the first one I've watched that didn't say to cover the canvas in a white paint first, thanks so much for the help😊
THIS is how you do a how to video. Plus I now know how to thin a paint rather than try to thicken various paints. Today WILL BE the day I do my first paint pour, thanks.
Okay... gotta say this vid made me laugh out loud because it described me to a tee! I binge watched videos. I bought supplies that sat in a corner of my house while I watched more videos. But I saw this today, and you convinced me today was the day. I did my first pour, and while I'm not unhappy with the results, I learned a ton with my first attempt! I My paint was a little too thick, and I think I'll try a bit more silicon oil and pay a bit more attention to using stronger contrast with the colors I use. Bottom line though is I really enjoyed the process, and I want to try it again, which I believe was the point of the video! Thanks for the encouragement!
Because of YOU, I just completed my first pours!! I’ve been watching videos and procrastinating with all the supplies. Here’s to more pours and hopefully learning seascape painting soon. Thank you!
Your awesome! Thanks for being so motivating and supportive to make me the viewer lol more confident and I finally just got all I needed and while watching you I did my first one and I'm now can't wait to do more!!! Thank you!
I know I'm watching this a year after you posted, but this still deserves a comment😉 I really appreciate this video! It has great info, the pours are beautiful, and you did a great job of inspiring people to just try😁 We all have a story, right? But we all need to create! I don't care if it's creating spreadsheets...but this had been a fun avenue to discover! I appreciate your videos and have watched you for over a year. Apparently, I have not caught all of them😂 I'm so glad you are still posting. I appreciate you🤗
Thank you so much for this video, I have been procrastinating about this for literaly years! I have now finally done my first pour after watching your video! I love it!! So much fun! and i got some great results.
That tree ring pour is my favorite! I love the soft look to it. Thank you for the teaching video. I watch all I see pop up. Getting the right consistency for the type pour is my biggest challenge. This helped so much.
THANK YOU for this video! I've been just such a person, binge-watching other people's acrylic pours, but always wanting to try it for myself. We bought all the materials and then just didn't really know where to go from there. Your video was very instructive, especially about mixing the paints and helping viewers recognize the correct pouring consistencies. Our first pours may not have gone *exactly* how we wanted, but they still look pretty cool, and we have plenty of paint and canvases remaining to try again a few more times without more purchases.
You go Jenny. Isn't pouring so much fun? Just take your time, make small changes and keep track of what works and what doesn't and you'll be pouring masterpieces in no time. Also, love your failures. They make you better and should be celebrated too!
Thnx for mind blowing tutorial . You r wonderful teacher & M also excellent student . I am 72 yrs old lady . Very interesting time pass which would make my life really cheerful . God bless you . 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I truly love and adore all of your videos! Although I have already tried paint pouring, it’s been a few months since my last one, and your comment the beginning of this video made me laugh out loud. I just bought everything to make my pouring tray, very inspired by that simple tip in your last couple videos I watched!
I've been watching a lot of the acrylic pouring videos for the last week or so and many of them seem incredibly complex looking or the results are. But I wondered how to do it, what kind of supplies one would need and I was so happy to find your video! It was nice to see that you don't have to spend a lot of money on paints or supplies. It looks relatively inexpensive. And I loved every one of your acrylic pours that you did here! Thank you for Not only being a great teacher but for taking the time to show me a new way of painting. A way of painting totally different from the traditional way I've always practiced, which is oil painting or acrylic painting with brushes on a canvas. Subscribed! 🌹
Thank so much! Glad to help. Let me know if you have more questions. I am always looking for new ideas for videos and questions are my best source for those ideas.
I actually DID do my first pour earlier today! In fact, I did TWO! They were both flip cups with very different colors. I like both of them and cannot wait until they dry so I can varnish and hang them. I'm also in the IT field and enjoy your videos.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Absolutely! They're 8x10s and will work up to larger canvases soon. I bought so much paint and supplies during Amazon Prime Days! Lol.
Soo excited to try this. Ive been thinking about looking into it, and finally started watching these today, and it looks soooo easy and fun. I have paint, canvases, and some random things around the house, so I'll need to maybe pick up a few things, but today's the day!!
I am so happy to hear that the thinking part of pouring is over for you!. Let the fun begin. I started painting out of necessity, I needed something to spark my brain out of severe PTSD. I found Sarah Mack (love her). After watching for a couple of months, I again recognized the power of colors. The rest is history!.
I've decided that you have to be an artist to do this. Not just anybody can do it. That anybody is me. All my colors run together and I end up with a poop brown canvas
Thank you! Love the way you explain EVERYTHING to where i totally could follow your just what i've been needing, now i'm going on line to order paints and glue etc. Thanks again♓😁
Thanks again, David, for a very informative video. You're right, I've been binge watching and planning my first pour. 😄However, being a Texan, things have come to a screeching halt as far as the completion of my little art studio. OMG. How did you know? I HAVE been binging on pouring videos, I DO have all the supplies I need. I am going to go home and do it… today. Thanks. I needed that. 😁
I'm an artist (BFA Ohio University) but a real rookie on this amazing genre. I'm retired and my wife and I do craft shows. I can't wait to create some beautiful pieces. I love your educational tutorials. I hated the videos that showed techniques to music with NO "teacher" talking; the "instructor" never explains the process as they progress through the piece. "Clever" text inserts to explain the process doesn't cut it. I hope these artists would never use this style for children; young adults, (or even newbies) trying learn anything using virtual education.
That's was pretty much the impetus for me to create the channel. I couldn't find the information in a way that made me understand the whole process. Glad it was helpful. I also look forward to seeing the amazing art you'll create.
Good evening David, thank you for all your informative videos. They are a great help to all beginners of acrylic pouring. I have one question please. When working out how much paint is needed for the canvas size, what percentage of that amount is for the base coat? Thank you and bless you for all the valuable information.🌷
LOVE this video! So clear on how you mix the paints to get the right consistency! That’s what’s holding me back. I don’t know yet what the paint should feel like to get a good pour. I want to do a Dutch pour but I’m not sure if the base paint needs to be thin too just like the other paints or if the goal is to have it a little thicker but still runny? Also the fact that different brands and different colors vary so much in weight freaks me out. I know I need to just give it a go. Thank you so much for your clear teaching! Felt like you were talking directly to me. 😂👍🏽
Thank you for making such a great video with everything you need. I can’t wait to actually start pouring😀 One question that nobody seems to answer. How do you tidy up the outside edge? Doesn’t it have heavy drops that hang down? When you do a vase how does the top edge get clean and not just be messy? Can you please answer as I’m worried about this. Thank you so much xx
You scrape your edges every 15 minutes after the pour 3 or 4 times. Any more drips will dry and you won’t be able to feel them. This dries flat unlike resin which gives drips.
Dude… best instructional video regarding paint pours ever… seriously grateful for your time, energy and dedication to allow us newbies to feel like we don’t have to watch endless videos of others pouring in order to try and deduce the W5’s of it all! Appreciate you!!❤🎉

I've done 16 pours in a couple of weeks - and finally got one I like!
But it takes doing it - like anything in life you just have to jump in.
Thank you!
YAY Reenie! Glad you got going and that you already love one of your paintings. We are always hardest ourselves to so make sure you ask some trusted people what they think before you go scraping or throwing things away.
Hi! I've just watched your video and I'm SOOOOO PLEASED that I did. I've been watching loads of other artists and only just stumbled onto your channel. Thank goodness I did because I'm really impressed with how you have explained everything to us viewers. It's definitely the best video I've seen for the complete novice looking to start their own paint pouring journey! Thank you so much, all the way from the UK! 😊
Awesome! Thank you so much.
❤
I’ve watched so many and then I ran into this one. I learned so much from it. Thank you so much. It was clear and concise. So helpful!
You are so welcome! That was my problem when I first started. Information overload.
Wow…..you made it easy to follow AND so encouraging that I really feel I can take that first step. Where have you been this last year when I’ve watched other artists on my phone?
Thanks! Very encouraging.
Have you tried pouring yet?
I love that you tell me how much paint I need for what size base! THANK YOU
You are so welcome! Glad to help.
Enjoy your teaching. I am an oil painter. Learning to pour. What a challenge! I have a tip or cheap canvases. Spay the back with water let dry it will shrink the canvas and make it tight. Hope this is useful...Anne
Absolutely is helpful. Just don't dry it too fast or it will "pull" and create ripples in the corner. I learned that one the hard way.
This is the best tutorial I've seen! Thanks for sharing HOW MUCH of each paint ingredient to use! Going to attempt to do this with nine-year-olds at a birthday party!
My 9 year old loves helping me with my pours. I've done a few activities with our local young women's group also. Always a hit activity.
I love your teaching techniques!!
Even I understand the process more 😁. Thank you for putting yourself out there for us newbies!!
Awesome! Thank you Diane.
I've watched several RUclipss and read several blogs/webpages about pouring, but yours is the FIRST that mentioned a level. Brilliant! Now I don't have to learn that trick only after making one or more disasters - thank you!
I like my disasters. They teach me the most. But I can totally understand being able to limit them by learning from other people.
OMG, I thought he was talking directly to me! I need someone like him. Thank you!
You can do this Monica. Let me know how your first pours go.
Let me know how it goes Niki.
Thank you very much for the explanation of how thick the color should be. I have never understood what everyone is looking at, when they see the color fall into the cup. Now I am so inspired and now I will finally dare to paint❤️
Let me know how it goes Maria.
How did he know I been binge watching pours?
I think most of us start there Tamra.
Well, did I save myself some time and frustration? YES! Looking forward to teaching this to children at summer camp!
Wonderful!
I cannot tell you how informative. Everything I had questions was answered. Thanks
You're welcome Cynthia. Glad to help.
Thank you for the video, you are such a good teacher, i am a beginner, and this was so usefull for me. Greetings from Croatia
You're very welcome Kristina. What brands of paint to you use in Croatia?
@@LeftBrainedArtist I am using Solo Goya brand of colours and pouring medium, and Royal Talens black and white
I been wanting to do this for awhile, but didn't how to get started until came across your video. Thank you so much for explaining it well for a beginner like me. 👍🏻
You are so welcome! How did it go?
Where in the heck were you a year ago when I was attempting to learn from the big guns, which was all I could find?...but seriously, thank you for the thoughtful way you teach, not missing anything!. You are not only tall with very long arms 😜, but you are also a very good teacher 🍎
Thanks Consuelo. I really appreciate that. Glad this one was helpful also.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I totally agree with Consuelo! Thank you for this!
I enjoyed learning your video- first time- Thanks! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
You truly want to help people learn this technique, you’re awesome!
And now it is time for you to try your first pour if you haven't already Elaine.
Thanks! I've been painting for a while, but I still learned some great stuff from this.
I can't pour today, because my cat will complain. 😆
During lockdown he has become accustomed to have constant access to my lap.
Excellent news. Does your cat "paint" too? The cat I used to have wouldn't stay away and want to paw everything and make a mess.
THANK YOU!!! I have always wanted to try this and you made it extremely easy....can't wait to get started!!!
Good luck!! Let me know how it goes Chris.
That was an amazing learning video and I can't wait to do this, thank you! It helped me immensely!!
You are so welcome Beverly. I hope you have as much fun as I do.
Wow. Thank you so much Anne. Glad this is helping you. My mom was a school teacher for a long time. I blame her for anything that rubbed off on me.
You can do it Jo. Doing is so much more fun than watching.
Watched two days ago and did my first pour tonight, it came out great and it was so much fun. One pour and I learned so much. Thanks!
Doing is by far the best teacher. So glad it is working our for you Drew.
🙏🎨👩🎨🤍👨🎨🖌️🖼️
YES! Let me know how it goes.
You're right, I have been binge watching but this is hands down the best one I've watched too learn what to do, also it's the first one I've watched that didn't say to cover the canvas in a white paint first, thanks so much for the help😊
Thanks Angela. No need to do extra steps especially if you are just starting out.
Followed your instructions and did my first tree ring pour today ... very happy with the results!
Great job! So glad to hear that.
You are an awesome teacher & and a great artist. This is the first video I watched from you. Now going to watch all the videos by you. Thank you!
Wow, thank you Molly. Always glad to help!
Excellent video. You hit the nail on the head - “quit just watching and DO”! I’ve poured about 20 small canvases so far - always a learning process.
Wonderful Victoria! Do you feel like you learn more by doing than watching?
Absolutely, once you start you cant stop. Love it. Just expensive
THIS is how you do a how to video. Plus I now know how to thin a paint rather than try to thicken various paints. Today WILL BE the day I do my first paint pour, thanks.
You're very welcome! Can't wait to see what you create Chevin.
Okay... gotta say this vid made me laugh out loud because it described me to a tee!
So happy you got started Bill. The more you pour the more you learn. Glad to welcome you in to the pouring nation!
Because of YOU, I just completed my first pours!! I’ve been watching videos and procrastinating with all the supplies. Here’s to more pours and hopefully learning seascape painting soon. Thank you!
Great job! So glad to hear that. Here's to more awesome paintings.
Thank you!! Just did my first pour after lurking for weeks; thanks to you!
Wonderful new Ally. I hope you loved it as much as I do.
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to try this for a few years. I have finally done it and I love it.
Wonderful to hear Gina. I hope you love it as much as I do.
Your video is what I needed to start! Thank you, you explain very well! 🌸🫶🪷
I'm so glad Rejane.
Awesome job I am a fan now!
Thanks Steph. Glad to help.
Your awesome! Thanks for being so motivating and supportive to make me the viewer lol more confident and I finally just got all I needed and while watching you I did my first one and I'm now can't wait to do more!!! Thank you!
That is awesome! Hope you love it as much as I do.
I appreciate you🤗
Thanks my friend. Glad to help and I agree. Everyone needs to feel the joy from creating something.
Thank you so much for this video, I have been procrastinating about this for literaly years! I have now finally done my first pour after watching your video! I love it!! So much fun! and i got some great results.
Awesome to hear my friend. Glad to help.
This is how a true artist explains their craft 👌
Thanks so much Siena.
Thank you for taking time to explain the way you did. You made me not to be afraid and start already enjoying and use all the supplies I have.
I am looking forward to seeing your first pours Marina.
Thank you, Sir Teacher! It came in handy for me now, because I started recently, and I did some bad ones. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
So glad to help Annabell. Good luck on your future pours.
That tree ring pour is my favorite! I love the soft look to it. Thank you for the teaching video. I watch all I see pop up. Getting the right consistency for the type pour is my biggest challenge. This helped so much.
You are so welcome Vonelle. It is the most important, and also the most difficult, part of acrylic pouring in my opinion.
@@LeftBrainedArtist that has sure been my experience! Thank you again for all the help you provide.
Me too!!! Making Christmas gifts early. Ill frame them first
Thnx for mind blowing tutorial . You r wonderful teacher & M also excellent student . I am 72 yrs old lady . Very interesting time pass which would make my life really cheerful . God bless you . 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks and welcome
How did you know I was binge watching youtube....totally telepathic, lol. Thanks for the encouragement! I am heading to the store today.
You got this Debra. Pouring is so fun . . . and therapeutic.
Thank you, this was so helpful in getting me prepared to start my paint pouring journey.
Awesome Dawn. You are going to love it!
I truly love and adore all of your videos! Although I have already tried paint pouring, it’s been a few months since my last one, and your comment the beginning of this video made me laugh out loud. I just bought everything to make my pouring tray, very inspired by that simple tip in your last couple videos I watched!
Thank you so much! You've got this!
You are a great teacher, I love the way you explain everything. I am doing my first pour today and hope it will go well
Good luck! Let me know how it goes Diane.
One of the best videos. You are a gifted painter and a teacher
Wow, thank you Zia.
You get it Jergie! Those first ones are so nerve wracking but so amazing at the same time.
Yes. Today is the day! You'll be glad you start. Pouring is so fun.
You got this Tina. The fun is in the doing for sure. Plus you learn so much more.
You are an exceptional teacher. Thank you for this clear and concise instruction. Gotta get started!
You can do it Debby!
10:58 to 12:04 .Thank you for showing how to test the consistency of the paint by making mound shapes and rings that disappear instantly. Very helpful
Glad to help Jo Kh. Thanks for watching.
Thanks again, David, for a very informative video. You're right, I've been binge watching and planning my first pour. 😄However, being a Texan, things have come to a screeching halt as far as the completion of my little art studio. Soooo.....hopefully next week, or at the most, two weeks! I watch with anticipation for your videos to come out. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge in such an easy-to-understand way!
Stay warm Peggy. That polar story is crazy town. Lets definitely get you started next week.
I am excited to have found your video! I have a couple friends that have been doing this for a couple years, but they are not good teachers 😁 You make me feel I can actually do this 😀 Gonna give it a shot! I have a blacklight room I have been wanting to desperately make cool crap for .... And I believe you have given me the tools to do that! Thank you so much... Wish me luck 🤞
Thank you so much. Glad to help and can't wait to see what you create.
Thank you so much! This is just the ‘nudge’ I needed to just get on with my first pour. I’ve just done 4 - learned a lot already! I’ve watched many ‘pouring acrylic’ videos but yours are so clear and by far the best. Thanks again.
You are so welcome Jan. Welcome to the obsession . . . I mean club.
@@LeftBrainedArtist 🤣🤣. yes I can see it becoming a bit of an obsession. Already thinking about the next ones. I guess that’s something else that I need to learn - patience.
My son and I watched this a couple of times. Bought everything and did our first pours today. This video made it so easy. Thank you!!!
That is awesome to hear! My video coming out this week is v2 of this video so hopefully you can find some new things to tweak for the next pour!
I'm with Consuelo. I've NEVER done this, so for me to watch this is heaven. I had ,NO idea on measuring or getting the right consistently.
Thank you
You can do it for sure Joyce. If this obstinate guy can figure out anyone can.
Love this video. I’m going to show it to my niece who wants to try paint pouring. The tree ring one came out great :)
Please do! It really is an easy and awesome artform.
I just did my first pour it was so fun and you said everything I needed nice and clear thanks a lot 🙏
My pleasure 😊
You have inspired me to finally paint pour my first masterpiece! Thank you so much! I subscribed, but how do I get on your email list?

I so appreciate your teaching style and a nice and understanding voice "without" a bunch of comedic filler. I like your L brained approach. Compliments from this Virgo
Thanks Natasha. Glad to help.
OMG. How did you know? I HAVE been binging on pouring videos, I DO have all the supplies I need. I am going to go home and do it… today. Thanks. I needed that. 😁
You can do it Kate!
Brilliant! I've sent this link to my friend who's hesitating to put her toe in the water! Thank you :-)
Thanks for sharing! She definitely just needs to get started. So much fun to be had an amazing art to be created.
Excellent tutorial, best I’ve seen yet making it the most helpful to date. Thank you, thank you 🙏🏻 now I’ve got this 😍
You're very welcome Linda.
I agree with the others. You are a great teacher. And patient and thorough. Thank you for your artistic passion.. I hope you never stop experimenting.
My wife wants me to quit experimenting with stuff around the house but I am a dabbler through and through.
I've learned more in this video than hundreds of other video tutorials I've watched in how to pour....thank you so much!! I'm ready now!!
Glad to hear it. let me know how it goes.
Good evening David, thank you for all your informative videos. They are a great help to all beginners of acrylic pouring. I have one question please. When working out how much paint is needed for the canvas size, what percentage of that amount is for the base coat? Thank you and bless you for all the valuable information.🌷
30% of the total give or take.
Dutch pours are VERY thin Mrs M. Like absolutely no mound and maybe even a bit of a crevasse when you drizzle them back in to the paint.
Thank you for making such a great video with everything you need. I can’t wait to actually start pouring😀
One question that nobody seems to answer.
Appreciate you!!❤🎉
I am glad to hear that Wendy. I blame my mom (a school teacher for 20 years) and how she taught me as a kid.
