- Welcome to our video on open cup fluid art! In this video, we'll be showcasing the process and passion behind creating stunning acrylic pouring pieces using the open cup technique.
The open cup technique involves using a small, open container to pour paint onto a canvas or other surface. This allows the artist to have greater control over the flow of the paint, resulting in intricate and dynamic designs.
As you watch this video, you'll see the rich, vibrant colors and mesmerizing patterns that can be achieved through open cup fluid art. From the pouring of the paint to the tilting and manipulating of the canvas, each step is an opportunity for the artist to add their own unique touch to the piece.
We hope this video inspires you to try your hand at open cup acrylic pouring and to tap into your own artistic passions. Thank you for watching!

These keep getting prettier and prettier with each piece! Just gorgeous! 😍
Thank you so much Nikki!!
It is beautiful here in Central Florida! I’ve recently subscribed to your channel and I’m loving everything you have done. Thank you for sharing your talents and positivity. At my age (68) I appreciate your gentle voice, calm background music and peaceful, beautiful art. Keep going and much joy and love in your life!
Thank you so much Carolyn! I am glad that you are getting relaxation and enjoying the creative process over here. Wishing you peace and happiness
I couldn't agree more!
How many drops of penetrol ?
Gréât, wonderfull, marvelous!!! Do you put some silicon in your coulours ?
Do you use Flood Penatrol 04 or regular? How much per oz for those beautiful cells?
The penetrol may not have caused an immediate problem but oil and water don’t mix and the oil product breaks down the plastic in acrylic. That’s why you don’t put gas in milk jugs. The manufacturer does not recommend the product with acrylic. Sorry
Bonjour, quelles splendides cellules !
Loved your whole easygoing process and the result is just glorious!
Thank you so much Carole, Cheers!!
Great video! Just wondering how I can reach you. Sent a message on your Facebook Art acct.can you connect possibly. Thanks so much!😊
Absolutely, I responded gave you my number. Look forward to hearing from ya!
Hi! How are you getting cells w/out silicone? Love your channel. You’re very calming. Txs for sharing your art.
Preston Stafford here. How many days did you let this beautiful piece dry before you varnished it and what varnish did you use?
Hello Preston! I let it dry and cure for 48 hours before the varnish coat. The varnish I used was Liquitex gloss varnish for this one
A man gruff enough to protect his country, yet, soft enough to create such gorgeous and beautiful art! Wow! I do have to ask tho...Do you scrape the paint off the underside of your canvas to stop the top paint from pulling down and off the sides?
Cant get Penetrol in UK. What can we use over here?
Looks like a magnificent peacock. I love it
Thank you! 😊
Not to be a pest because this is my second comment, but I’m confused… Is medium the same as the floetrol or is it something completely different? Please remember, I am a newbie, and I’m learning from you on RUclips. To be Completely honest and I hope it’s a huge compliment to you?! I’m extremely meticulous, and I’ve watched a lot of different videos and you are my favorite, so I choose you to be my teacher! (Lucky you, Lol!!! And with that being said, I’m so sorry!!!)😳🤪😂😬🤷♀️
Because I’m learning, I will be asking questions, and hopefully not a lot, but I cannot promise but I will try to refrain myself for your sake! I certainly do not want to drive you crazy and be annoying!!!🤞😊
I am flattered Yvonne! Yes a medium is what you mix with the paint to make it fluid. So floetrol can be a medium or something like liquitex pouring medium as well. The penetrol was used in this video instead of my normal silicone trying to change things up a bit and experiment. I hope you have an amazing painting adventre! Thank you for allowing me to be a guide for you in this colorful world of fluid art!

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me and responding, of course! So far so good, I’m really enjoying this, my very first was literally a flop and my second came out pretty good and then I moved it to quick and smudged it 12 hours later… Never a dull moment with me, lol!!! I’m about to play and do a bunch today. I hope you have a Fantaboulous day, and thank you again!!!👍😊🤗
I love these open cup videos.. I just tried one today after watching you work! It came out awesome so thank you!! I'll upload it in the morning. Thanks for the inspiration! 😁😁 I love the colours you used.. very vibrant!
Thats great to hear make sure to @JMoPainting so I can find it once you have posted it!
@@JMoPainting I will! 😁
Preston Stafford here. I see you ignored one cup of color. Why is that?
Hello my friend. I sometimes dont use as much of one color as I think I will and tend to go where the colors lead me. Its sounds strange but that is my method. Look at the way the colors are interacting on the canvas and pour the colors to complement them. Those excess colors get sealed up and used in future projects.
Thank you for this lesson, I am a beginner and it certainly helps when you explain everything O should do. Love your color choice and how the piece came out.
Hello Big D, I'm a Michigan girl myself. Just getting started and love your ideas. Thanks for sharing your talent.... it's inspiring
Absolutely gorgeous love it thanks so much for sharing love ur videos xxxIreland.
What temperature do you set the heat gun at. Fantastic tutorial very informative and interesting fir newbees like myself.
Go raibh maith agat a chairde (thank you vedy much my friend) from Pol Mc-an-T-Sionnach (Ireland)
Hey Johnny, HUGE fan here! I need some guidance, please. I tried penetrol and I did not get any cells. What could I be doing wrong?
I liked this finished piece, but I really loved it best before the spin. Loved the design of the small lacing in the outer band with the bigger cells in the inner part. That difference in look was very interesting to me. Good job.
Absolutely amazing keep up the great work do you think this is possible to do with Fluorescent colors? Kindly Regards and much love
Wow, today you taught me a really big piece of information that I now know has been the problem with cells. I won't use the torch anymore. I have been looking for big cells like you did and could not figure out why most were small. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. This will. E a game cha get for my art journey. Again thanks
Thanks for your videos, I recently started doing paint pours with my children. You mention house paint in a older video. Please can you explain which house paint you use-I have wall paint in silk, is that ok? do you mix the pigments into the white paint? I bought acrylics craft paint but house paint is much cheaper. Thank you
Wow, it reminds me of a collection of agates. The colours are so calming and tropical, absolutely stunning piece 🥰
Thank you so much Rechelle I really appreciate it and couldn't agree more!!
I just discovered your channel and besides having a little crush on you, think you work and vids are incredible.
Thank you for sharing.
I'm an old experimenter lol....folks have made tons of money in the interior decorating arena doing "faux paintings" (for lack of a better description)...I love the market today as you can virtually walk into just about any store and find something to add to art pieces. The things we were always told were errors in our paintings are now the things that everyone emphasizes. I have made so many "errors" in my finishes that I'm trying to now go back and remember how I made certain mistakes, lol. I stood in the paint additive isle at home depot yesterday for so long that the security theft prevention people came and hung out with me....for real. They literally stood in the isle with me, then to the "oops paint area" and finally to polyurethane....all the way to the register. The dude was more aggravated than my husband when he shops with me. Hilarious!!! The fun never ends with this art form!
Very very very beautiful. Love the cell development.🙂
How do you know how muchpaint to use? I love your vids so much and I am learning so much. But I don't think I use enough paint.
Detroit how about that I am from Marine city now living in Western Australia I miss the cold 😛love love your work
Penetrol does NOT behave like silicone when it dries!!!! You will 💜 it!😁
I am learning that and LOVING it! Thank you for being here!!
@@JMoPainting I'm so happy for you!! Penetrol changes the whole game- Def try it as your CA. I put 8 drops per 4 oz in Amsterdam Titanium White with my pouring medium. 3:1 ratio. THE. BEST. Happy pouring, my friend!!😊 (er, this is my mix for swipes)
If you love the warm weather you should come to Perth, Western Australia on the summer. Lots of days in the mid to high 30's Celsius
Thank you so much for that information cuz I have been sitting here wrecking my brains trying to figure out what I could use that won't wreck the painting once I use silicone oil that makes them have cells wow you have opened my eyes thank you and now that I know I could use the petrol and still get the cells that's great
Was wondering if you have used Floetrol for your pouring medium? I have used it with great results.
Still trying to find the penitrol you use, at hardware stores
Hi. Thank you
I found the wet reveal much prettier than the dry reveal.
Have you tried adding glow in the dark powder? It works out nicely, we made gifts and they were hearts and flowers, the flowers did the best.
❤❤❤your work is just amazing! I hope one day mine will be this good!!
Watching this video my question is…with one drop of Penatrol and nothing else how do you get your paint not to be so thick and yet smooth and flowy???
I wanted to thank you for making the e-book available to us that I saw somewhere in my marathon viewing of your videos.
Nice! I bought a can of penetrol the other day to play with. Reading the tin, it says it is flammable. i imagine that has something to do with the different effect.
Gorgeous you said you'd varnish the piece ; what do you use.? Please
I wonder if you could experiment on top of some heating pad to keep the sheet warm,
Also add some glitters and other oils/dyes mixed with the paint and see the reactions, add a few sprinkles of paint thinner and see what that does to the mix
Well here in Canada it is not too cold but they have announced a snow storm of 25cm of snow, I just discovered u on RUclips and I really love what u do with ur pourings but it’s been a couple of times that u talk about penatroel(something like that) can u just tell me what is the difference between what u put and silicone..?? I am a new painter so I like knowing what is better to put, thank-I for ur answer, have a wonderful day, Johanne…
👍👍👌👌👏🏼👏🏼💜🫶🏻💛🫶🏻💙🫶🏻❤️😍🥰💞💥💕💥💞😃😉😘👋🏼👋🏼
So is the reason you put a base coat down ONLY to protect it from the Penetrol?
Just stunning and beautiful thanks for sharing ✌️👍💗💯
Varnish with what product?? Is that your sealer? Thank you
This is beautiful. You are so inspiring. Keep up the artwork
Videos I liked. I need a class in Florida . Does any body knows ones near Tampa ?
It's beautiful but no one gives their secrets. why to watch
Would you try it with a different pouring medium to see if you get the same results?
I’m up in Saginaw, do you do in person classes?
wonderfull colourplay
Thank you so much 😀
Great color combination, great turn out. Your voice is so soothing. Just my 1 cent
do you have a recipe for using paint that's archival?
The recipe I used was 2 parts pouring medium (artists loft pouring medium) to one part paint
@@JMoPainting are you adding any glue to it? you have it on the supply list. Plus thanks for the quick reply.
No glue in this pour. Just pouring medium and paint, you are welcome Michael.
Momi, Bella and I just watched it. My mom loved it and Bella subscribed.
Thank you darling, I love you mucho ❤
J Mo thanks so much for sharing your journey with Penatrol. Did your research of the product say anything about the long lasting effects on a painting? You bring so much to our community.
I havent seen anything about the colors changing or yellowing over time. I love this product so far! Thank you so much Sandy!
It's gorgeous, love the fluorescent yellow in it👍
Thank you Melinda, I am glad you liked it! Have a wonderful day today!
j'adore , vous avez mis des gouttes d huile de silicone pour obtenir cela ?
Can I officially call you the cell master? ❤
Washington state 36 degrees F. Enjoyed watching this process
I am glad you are here Ada! Buckle up I heard there are a few more of those wild winter storms coming and they will hit the west coast first. Be safe and have a wonderful day today
what do you use for varnish? spray or pour on?
Very nice but wow lots a wasted paint
Hello, I'm learning from you, Thank you! Can you tell me the benefit of Penetrol compared to regular Floetrol?
My question has been answered by watching the rest of the video. Love it that you used the word 'glorious'!
This reminds me of a peacock 🦚
Why did you choose Not to use silicone?
Do you have to use heat? Beautiful!!
Love your take on the chemistry
Stunning I love ur videos xx
Wow, that’s gorgeous! 😍
Makes me think of a peacock.
Yet another stunner!
You remind me of Bob Ross!
This is an absolute must for me to try to recreate.! Eighteen months ago I had a new studio built in our garden, but have been unable to yet use it,as I have long covid and also broken my spine. Nevertheless I shan’t let that hold me back for much longer.Iam a green horn when it comes to acrylic painting and I’m only 75 years young,so I’ve plenty of time left in me.!!! Love from Jo, in Wolverhampton,West Midlands, England 🏴. xxxxxxx
Love your work
Thank you for sharing your talents
Enjoying your calmness
Have a great day 🇦🇺
Hi! This Piece is so beautiful! Stunning. I love your work and your relaxing voice. How much paint did you use and how long to dry? Thank you 😊
Fantastic!! I will try this soon. I have the Penetrol. Maybe tomorrow if I feel well enough. I love your videos…
Love these colours! It’s a dreary rainy day here in Waipu, New Zealand. Dealing with the tale of Cyclone Hale.
It is so beautiful!!!
Beautiful j mo
Hey! Really cool painting! I bought that stuff and got very different results. What did you use any floetrol in your mix? My cell formation was really the explosion of lilypads like yours, even when I torched! Any help would be great! I want to do a traveling funnel pour with this!
I saw another of your videos a few days ago and then realized that I have Flood Penetrol in my home! How much do you put in each small cup? I am a former Detroiter and got really tired of seven months of winter so I moved to North Carolina where we have seven months of summer. Love your colors! Can’t wait to try it.
Love, love, love it!!!! ❤
It's beautiful!
Thank you so much for sharing your great art. Your work is so gorgeous, brillant and beautiful. Special this one, I love these colours together, amazing how it changes from wet in dry. Both looks super! And also thank you for your relaxed voice and doing. Best wishes from Heike
You always have the best color combinations. I don't paint, but your videos bring me so much peace and joy. Thank you! This is one of my absolute favorites so far.
I love your channel. I have followed Olga Soby for quite awhile and love her work too. Your enthusiasm and excitement are infectious and very inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi there from the Isle of Man! I always think your varnished finished pieces look really glossy and a great finish on them, please can you tell me what product you use to get such a shiny finish without resin? Thanks
I love your work! I would be very interested as to where you got your torch? I do not see it mentioned in your supplies above. I see the heat gun, but not the torch. Best regards, Nancy
This is beautiful! It makes me think of a patterned silk scarf that my mother had. It always made me think of peacock feathers.
I was wondering, do you ever use the torch to create a specific pattern, or do you just blow it randomly across? I've been wondering how that would look.
And how are you J Mo
Oh my gosh, the fluorescent yellow is so much prettier than the orange! ❤❤❤
It really is!!
@@JMoPainting It’d be great to see with that outstanding brilliant blue. Thank you! 🥰
Thank you for another informative, enjoyable and relaxing video. I think a cross border road trip is in my future; there are so many products that I want to try/ use that are either not available or hard to find here in The Colonies! Thanks for posting!
Just watched this video and I really like what you do. Was wondering what varnish you use and how many layers do you put on.
When do u use wD 4
❤😍
Thank you so much!!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jour sans
Thank you so much!
Very clever 😊
Love the color combo! May I ask what temp you set your heat gun at more best cell reaction?
My heat gun only has two settings high and low, this was set to low. Although I think the heat gun settings for the one I have high and low just pertains to airflow.
Thanks for the response! Love your work and your videos…Very inspiring and informative for a novice like me :).
I really like it as it is before spinning!!
Yeah it happens sometimes, I am still learning when to spin and when not to spin. Its all part of the journey ❤
