I absolutely LOVE how you not only relate the science behind nutrition but also how you include history as well. You are truly a well-rounded renaissance woman! 💕
I am a biologist and the scope of the information in this one video blew me away! A key part of the information shared is the contamination of our world with tiny bits of plastic called microplastics. The microplastics attract toxins and they (the microplastics with the toxins) accumulate in sea food. I remember that the Vancouver Aquarium did early research on this issue. Microplastics are probably in foods from land-based animals as well. The ocean has microplastics -so sea salt has this problem, too. Maybe ancient salt that is mined may be better for this reason. Or if the sea water is filtered before it goes to the evaporation ponds, it could be fine.
Dr. Liu you are the best because you seek the scientific basis for each topic and you take the time to explain with thoroughness. Some want you to get to the point and talk less but education is important. You might get a million subscribers if you got to the point faster but then you might lose those who want to learn what you took the time to learn and are taking the time to educate us.
Celtic salt is often considered a healthier option because it generally contains less sodium compared to regular and even Himalayan salt. Additionally, it is rich in trace minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which can help balance sodium levels in the body. This mineral content may support overall health and aid in maintaining proper electrolyte balance, potentially making Celtic salt a better choice for those concerned about blood pressure and sodium intake. However, moderation is still essential, as excessive salt consumption can have negative health effects.
Potassium chloride tastes "saltier" than sodium chloride and has a bit of a metallic character. It is used in processed "low sodium" food, to make up for the lack of sodium chloride. A product like Morton Lite Salt is a mixture of both. That helps to keep the balance if you feel the need to add salt.
Both Celtic salt and Baja Gold companies test for microplastics and state they do not contain any. There's also Redman's salt which is mined in US. BTW some French doctor's treat hypertension with Celtic salt.
I use Redmans salt 1 part to 4 pts potassium chloride. We need so much potassium chloride to process the salt. But it has to be real salt. Works for me!
@@edielynch7819 That's great you're using Redmond's salt and potassium chloride in that ratio! It can help balance sodium and potassium levels for better hydration and overall health. Just make sure to listen to your body and consult a healthcare professional if you have any specific concerns, especially with high potassium intake.
I am 76 and never use salt on food or cook with salt or sodium or msg There is plenty of salt in animal products like red meat and chicken and fish I buy unsalted butter Unsalted nuts and choose unsalted foods when possible I weigh 92 lbs and am 5’ tall and exercise cardio and weights two hours daily I walk a lot too as I have no car or bicycle
Yes, Celtic salt is different! It’s unrefined and packed with trace minerals, which makes it a great natural option. Barbara O'Neil loves it for its health benefits-and she’s got a point!
Dr. Liu when u say miso salt I assume ur talking about miso paste. The miso container u held up looks like regular miso that u use to make miso soup ?? So r u saying u heat a bit of water and then add a teaspoon of miso and pour that on ur vegetables or whatever food ur eating ?
The food industry adds so much salt to many products (none of it food) to cover up the gobs of fructose they added to it. Why did they add fructose to a product that was intended to taste salty and then add extra salt to to make it salty again? Aren't they trying to make money by reducing ingredients? Well, they want to sell as much product as they can, so the reason they add the fructose is not for its flavor, but rather for its addiction properties (more addictive than cocaine) then they need to conceal the flavor "side effect" of fructose with more salt. The additional ingredient cost more than pays for itself with additional sales to addicted consumers.
My dad will be 92 this yr…he lost his smell yrs ago, but he hasn’t lost his taste buds… they are as strong. What makes u think they go hand-in-hand when his dr is testing him concerning the loss + just maybe… regaining his taste buds
Hi Doc, I hope everything is going well. Thanks for the video. There is a salt mine in Redmond, Utah. The name of the salt is " Real Salt". I like it, it's supposed to be one of the cleanest out on the market. Also around 78 trace minerals. Celtic salt out of France is a gray salt which holds a lot of moisture. Also 78 trace minerals.
If you dial 911 and get an ambulance, of they will inject you with a bag of saline solution, which is nearly 1000mg per 100ml of fluid. Even my mother when she had a heart attack, she went thought quite a few of those bags 1 litterbags (9000mg of sodium). Is that to flush out the kidneys so they can inject some high does prostatism? Or just to make sure the electrolytes are balanced?
Yes, low-sodium sourdough soy sauce can be a great option! It’s flavorful, easier on your sodium intake, and often contains beneficial fermentation compounds. Just enjoy it in moderation!
We like salt because it stimulates the dopamine pathway. It is like a drug. If someone would make a Soy Sauce out of potassium chloride, I we would have a reason to celebrate.
You're absolutely right-salt does light up those dopamine pathways! A potassium chloride-based soy sauce would be a game-changer for flavor and health. Hopefully, someone gets on that soon!
Not exactly! Sea salt is fine, but it lacks iodine, which your body needs. Iodized salt covers that, and miso adds extra nutrients and probiotics. It’s about balance-use what works for your health!

Why did you leave out Celtic Salt?
She mentioned sea salt which is what celtic salt is
@@mojomariposa1749Not quite. Celtic salt comes specifically from the Brittany region.
@ckelly5141 are you implying celtic salt is not quite sea salt?
@ No, but it is from a specific region of the world. It may be one of the best.
@ckelly5141 there are many types of sea salt which why she just said sea salt, that was an inclusive way of not having to name each one
We need some salt to be healthy 😊 too much is the problem 😊
Lemon juice and/or dill weed work well as salt alternatives
Alright 👍👍
that's fabulous!
Tell us please the healtiest salt to buy exactly, and does the healtiest salt on earth makes you heigh blood pressure as well? Thanks.
Learning so much from you ❤thank you
I always get suspicious when upscale restaurant food tastes too salty, which is dang near every time I go to one
Yup! That’s why I go restaurants I see the old folks go eat out at. It’s always super bland, no heavy amounts of salt added.
Seaweed will help with iodine too.

So much information and knowledge and useful facts. I'm hooked.

Thanks for this
⭐️Thank you for this information 🙏
My mom used to put salt on cantaloupe and grapefruit
good stuff Doc. I use ¾ potassium chloride and ¼ iodized sodium chloride..
works for me!
I use Redmans salt 1 part to 4 pts potassium chloride. We need so much potassium chloride to process the salt. But it has to be real salt. Works for me!

11:06 I believe there are about 84 different minerals in Himalayan. Sounds pretty healthy to me. 🤔
I have low blood sugar…sometimes my Blood pressure goes soooo low l look and feel exhausted. I’ve been told to drink water and salt… it works!
Dr. Jason Fung says people on reduced salt diets don't live as long.

That’s my question is the same? What do you think of Celtic salt

Hi doc, thank you for this. However, what about Celtic salt????
Can you please reply and let us know if it'll be a health option 🎉

is Kosher salt good for regular use like cooking/sprinkling ?
Baja Gold is better than Celtic salt.
Baja and Celtic salt
Baja Gold and Celtic salt are good sea salt, but both might contain some microplastics in them as the bright lady doc explains

Redmond Real Salt is my favorite and, like you said, it’s a great source of trace minerals. 😊

Normal blood sodium is 140 mg so the IV must balance that in the patient's bloodstream
I love you!
What about REDMONDS REAL SALT? UTAH MINE…. PLEASE ADVISE US ALL.
It's great but don't forget to add iodine in your diet. No iodine in Redmond
I season my food with bile salt, but only after it goes down the gullet.
Is low sourdough soy sauce good pls?

Epsom salt, magnesium sulfate?
I gave up salt 100% and don't miss it a bit.
Miso salt
Tamari sauce makes broccoli and mushrooms edible. Probably wouldn't eat them otherwise.
Benson's table Tasty is a great sub. Readers chec it out.

I don't agree with this at all because regular salt is no good.
Good thinking 😉
Gotta admit…..Doritos are delicious. 😋
I’m confused - so are you concluding that sea salt is not good? But Iodized salt and Miso salt are best??
Not exactly! Sea salt is fine, but it lacks iodine, which your body needs. Iodized salt covers that, and miso adds extra nutrients and probiotics. It’s about balance-use what works for your health!
As I listen, yes, she says sea salt is no good ( sea salt includes plastic ) she preferred salt with iodine. I stand to be corrected.
Celtic salt …
Celtic and baja gold salt I recommend you do more homework before you made this video
Colima salt.
Just go to the point plain and simple.
20 to 30 pound in a few days?? Stop the damn nonsense!!
Salt is only a problem if you are insulin resistant.
The more button takes you away from this video.
