I would also like to make the comment that women (worldwide) are blamed for being abused, for not being able to immediately leave, blamed if they get the courage to leave, blamed if a woman finds gainful employment, we are blamed for simply existing! Blame comes from men and sometimes women. Im simply sick of the attack. Women...break free from abuse when you can, get help and ignore the people who are not helping move forward.

In the African society the women are the problem. We shame each other for doing the right things for ourselves. And how dare you be different, if you dare try to be different and not follow the norm this same Women will shame, blame and abuse you. As much as the men are bad the women are worse.

I wish he is tried again in Nigeria, life sentence ( is17 even life?) for what he did is injustice to Taiwo. By the way I am in Nigeria but I cook and do dishes and I am a 50 year old man, there are many men that do it too I am not an exception. Women should marry really educated and civilized men whether abroad or in Naija. No modern man will watch his wife slave and age under the burden of work.

Very good advice @nezeville men need to be pampered. I feel we sometimes just expect men to adjust to going to the kitchen, cooking his own food and doing house chores just like that. It takes time for them to adjust. One has to be tactical in ones approach. Talking from experience my hubby is more organised than I am. When he joined me in the late nineties he started with night security while I had an office job. So he would come in the morning and be the one to take them to school and then go to uni . He found out that he was spending time looking for socks , undies etc for them and then running late for his course cos me I didn’t arrange them the night before( didn’t think of it😂), so he decided to be doing that and sorting out the washing of clothes etc which he still does today for me and him most of the time( children are young adults now) but as for food cooking he doesn’t like that so we know each others strengths. I have never really wanted cleaners in my house but in the last year we both decided we needed them 2ce a month to do a deep clean and then we can maintain it for the rest of the days. It just takes planning, cooperation and understanding. I hope Taiwo’s sons get all the help they need. It is so sad

This is such a sad story. This man should spend the rest of his life in jail. This was a cowardly unprovoked attack on his wife who was sleeping. Had she been conscious, she would have had chance to escape or scream to force the police waiting outside to break the door down and intervene. This man needs a one to one encounter with Jesus Christ Yeshua for deliverance and salvation while he is in prison.

Neze, you see why I always have issue when people keep encouraging women (or even men) to stick to their marriage of long years, without checking whether it was a real marriage or slave camp (or even prison). Some marriages are not marriages at all. Women should stop using their own happy relationships to judge what other women are going through. No one seeks to separate or end a happy relationship

Buchi Emecheta had a similar situation but she escaped. If you read her book Second class citizen, it's basically the earlier part of her life or from childhood to the point where she left her husband. The man destroyed her first manuscript and her other documents. It was a mix of jealousy and control issues: the man was trying to get his degree but never did, instead he was feeding off his wife and kept impregnating her without thinking how that will affect her job. Everything from the families relocation down to the hospital bills for all the pregnancies she had were paid for by Buchi, she had her 5th child by 22 and the useless man was just trying to sabotage her because of stinking pride🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. It's sad to see that almost 80 years later nothing has changed, maybe they are even worse 🤦🏾‍♀️

If you both have full-times jobs and she contributes to the household financially, kindly assist with house chores and childcare. When I got engaged to my now-husband, I told him how he treats me outside the bedroom will determine if I'll be in the mood for him in the bedroom. He cooks, cleans, and isn't controlling. I have fibroids which comes with 9 months of intense pain during pregnancy. Even in pain, you won't believe that I was gladly giving it to him everyday in the "other room" until the 9th month. He couldn't believe it🤣🤣🤣🤣Make your woman happy and her life easier, and you won't have to ask for sex.

He is a monster. He tormented her throughout the marriage and even continued after her death.
He never loved her. He is not even capable of loving anyone, but himself. He wasn't loyal to her in Nigeria. So she shouldn't be asked to be loyal to him. The marriage should have ended a long time ago.

Women are not crested to be the head of the home, men work oh to keep your honor!!!
Don't be a burden when you know you can work and be appreciative of your wife's efforts. Women don't rub it in if you are making more money. No man or woman should be killed for any reason. Many abusive men are very wicked so if you are living with one, don't bring them abroad with you. Go abroad and enjoy peace, if he doesn't allow you to have the kids, keep praying for your kids and saving your money, when they are up to 18yrs get admission for them and bring them over. Let us start loving ourselves.
That man should be put in the worst prison over there. Or put him in kuje or kirikiri prisons. He allowed a demon he has grown to swallow him. Very very sad. Good job Neze.

My take on this is that the marriage was 'patchable' in Nigeria because patriarchy prevails in that country. Abusive behavior is less tolerated in the West, and since men coming from such countries as Nigeria have that "I can do whatever I want" mentality, they cannot cope with how women and children are supported and are not subjected to suffering like they would have done in Nigeria.
Good for him, let him go and 'cool off' and spend the rest of his miserable life in jail. Let's see how much he can show the same gra-gra attitude in jail.

RIPP Taiwo. I'm glad your husband is in jail for life. I wish your children will survive the loss of both parents and the trauma of knowing how you met your demise. Honestly my heart is heavy with the senseless loss of an entire family. But my daughter Neze, you touched on enlightening us on how marriages can be a bed of Roses. This to me was very intriguing. Coz how we want to move in marriage is by choice. So let's choose wisely my fellow brethrens. Cheating has never had benefits to either parties in a marriage. Cheating is a curse in a marriage and it hurts the off springs of that union. If you love yourself both man and woman and you love your children please make the right choices for the better good of your families and your legacy. ❤❤❤❤

Influence is a very strong factor. I moved to USA with my family recently and everyone kept telling me to guard my marriage even stronger coz of the society here. I've always known thag bad influence corrupts good habits, so I only choose companies that are healthy.
I'm grateful partnership has been a part of our home since while we were in Cameroon. It flows normally for us here

My advice is for the abused to document these events. I am imagining this exact situation- husband wants to hold your children ransom. What do you do?
With the documentation of previous events, and this one where he threatens not to let the children go- let the immigration department know.
When the family arrives, immigration should have a ‘code red/flag’ for the family and only let the kids in and turn away the abuser.
I know it may not really work that way but what if… what if…
I’m so hurt by this story.
Thank you Neze my love. I’m Zimbabwean and have been watching you since 2021. Even when you tell touching stories, you tell and advise graciously that my heart can still function at a normal rate❤️

I agree with you about the struggle of gender roles in the diaspora, some of our Men want that 50/50 financial support but don't want to help with the kids or the house chores they are still with the African Mentality. I can understand the dilemma of the lady who had to choose between leaving her kids and making her devil of a husband japan with her and it cost her her life.

It’s a pity that the largest human society doesn’t recognize pathological conditions before they lead to catastrophic events. That man had shown adequate signs of narcissistic behavior even before going overseas but everyone around the marriage failed to recognize it. Now the “Osinachi Nwachukwu” phenomenon has now been re-enacted in a most tragic way. May the soul of Taiwo rest in eternal peace. Amen. Thank you Chineze, for this educative and illuminating story. I hope that the lessons thus taught will not be lost.

A frequent and sad occurrence in our diaspora community these days. I applauded your laser focused dissection of the root causes of marital abuse tolerance back home, and the aggravating factors that leads to complete breakdown of these marriages in diaspora. Excellent free marital counseling too!👌👍👏🏾

    Thank you Nezeville for this piece. The husband is lucky there is no death row in the UK;
I have lived in the UK for 50 years. I have seen violent men dominating marriages. I think this happened because the woman had not been in the country for long. She ought to have reported this! Well: too late now May her soul rest in peace.

A response to Neze's comment regarding people relocating from Africa to the West: it really depends on where you go and the situation! Some happy couples come to the USA and lose their minds!!!! A happy couple can fall apart! I have seen it. Exterior forces can snap a marriage in two. Sometimes you have women who have tolerated and pretended to be happy for decades and then, they just cant do it anymore. There was a time (I will use USA and Texas and Nigerians as today's example) where there were waves of people. In the 1980s into the 90s, there was the wave of Nigerian scholars, relocating for school. In the 90s to early 2000s, many came as business people. Later on, we had people come here all kinds of ways. I have a friend who came under a church workers visa. With the variety of educational backgrounds and exposure to new and different things, it can take a toll on new immigrants. In later migrations, Mix that with "I too know" and arrogance and its a deadly combination! There will be clashes with people who came here 40 years ago and struggled giving kind advice to new immigrants who know it all. Even other groups of people in the USA (through enslavement of Africans in the diaspora) will be judged, criticized, used and ignored by Nigerian's who refuse to understand the history of the USA and how things here fell apart for so many. In closing, anything can happen once one goes abroad. There is no one pattern of good or bad that can happen.

Nigerian men need to stay in Nigeria permanently instead of kpaying their women. My soon to be ex-husband came to England when he was 23 years old. He worked only for a few years and gave up work or education since his younger years. He was living with several women. Now he is about 58 years old, with no income, house, or anything to fall back to. Now, who's to be blamed for his self-destructive ways??

On point 👌🏽 abroad life is about partnership. A woman’s body responds naturally when she is happy and women abroad are not really asking for much, just a lil assistance with chores, children etc. and man shouldn’t think they can pay bills all alone, life here is expensive that one salary isn’t enough, and this can even lead to so many issues in marriages.

23:19 😅 Mama Neze, no lies detected. The red pill bros forgot to mention the statistics of causes of divorce, no 1 being one spouse having 70% of the burden or chores. This chores thing is a big issue. But pride will not allow some "trad" husbands to enjoy their wives. They don't want to hear the truth: that doing chores even occasionally will make the wife appreciate him more. I mean, they are both living in the house, the children are both theirs, why is one person doing all the work? And one stupid football player was telling women at their university graduation that his wife's life started when she embraced her true vocation: being a wife and mother, but we all know that this vocation is thankless and wageless🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ unless you count accomodation and the money for the house. In other words, the wife is a staff not a spouse🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ God have mercy
