I disagree, you need someone to teach you, but when that person teach you then go back check what he teach if it's true, like when a Man of God tells you that you can divorce and remarry, you check the bible if it's true, when you check you will see that bible said different thing, then you walk away from the church.

However, how can one cross-examine if in the first place that individual does not read nor understand the bible. The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher. If we really on what we're being taught by our leaders, we'll continue going astray. I grew up in the church my entire life, my parents are ministers, from a young age they taught my siblings and I to study the word of God and understand it for ourselves through the power of the Holy Spirit. Growing up in my youth group at church, I used to disagree with my youth pastor or leader cause they weren't saying it as the Bible says, I had to rebuke them. So imagine if I didn't know my Bible and I relied on their teachings?
