Nobody here seems to be letting a few drops of rain spoil their enjoyment of these scenic places - and it wouldn't be so green without it, nor the stream so full of life. The stately homes, parks and castles run by the National Trust and English Heritage are really well worth seeing. Tourists can buy a season ticket to visit them, which is very good value - there are hundreds of their beautiful and historic places to see all over Britain, usually indicated by the brown coloured tourist signs, as seen at 14:57 .
Oh, definitely not! The rain can't stop won't stop the fun exploring this wonderful country. Thank you for the recommendation. Also, thank you for watching 🤍 Jess

@@DaydreamersBarn Its odd to think that the biggest and busiest RAF Base "Brize Norton" is less than 3 miles away from Burford and still doesn't spoil the area, Im glad you like the Cotswolds area

As an Englishman, I am so pleased to welcome you and your charming comments about The Cotswolds. You have admired the 'stonework' and walls, however, you have not mentioned that almost all of these walls are 'Dry Stone Walls'. Dry stone walls are made by artisan craftsmen using no cement or mortar whatsoever. Stones are skillfully selected to fit and hold throughout the wall build using only friction and gravity to achieve the perfect wall. This to me, makes them even more beautiful!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the insight on the beautiful stone walls. Love good insight and learning as much as we can from you all! 🤍 Jess
My husband builds dry stone walls to perfection. There would not be adequate space to cover the subject in this video, besides the fact that not everyone shares our interest of construction.
Well done for exploring villages off the beaten track - not many visitors will do that. Shame about the weather but you must go back when the sun shines - the honey coloured stone will look even more beautiful. Even the more touristy villages such as Bourton on the Water are still picture postcard pretty.
Hi Jess , great video , glad to see you weren't put off using the back roads , you can miss so much if you do . The Cotswalds is a truly beautiful place , so glad you took your time to enjoy it .🇬🇧
See that steep little footpath at the end of Arlington Row in Bibury? It's named Awkward Hill and leads to a wonderful walk through the fields and along an old Roman road to Coln St Aldwyns, a good pub there (the New Inn), then back along the river Coln and through woodland to Bibury. Around 3 hours. The wonderful thing is all you need to do is step off the beaten trail of tourists by a few meters to have the place almost to yourself. On the way back you pass two splendid large country houses. Plenty of lovely views.
That would have great if we were able to check that part out. Maybe next time if we are able to make it back. We love seeing things that are not just the main attractions. Cheers, Chris
Hi Daydreamers, at the start of the video you mentioned it was Tewkesbury but just wanted to let you know it was Burford you were driving through. It was Novelist William Morris that coined Bibury as being the most beautiful village in England. He obviously hadn't been to Chalford, in the Golden Valley, near Stroud. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for that. In the description I explained in editing, a mistake was made not adding Tewkesbury footage in. We will definitely be doing a whole video on Tewkesbury coming soon. My appointment for my mistake. I was so excited and love exploring this wonderful country. Thanks for the comment, my friend. 🤍 Jess
We loved the adventure and all the laughter. It was a truly delightful experience for us all. England is quite magnificent, in my opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the support, my friend! 🤍 Jess
I got so close to 'keyboard warrior" status when you talked about the Battle of the Roses, but I've half-followed you for a while and knew you wouldn't let me down. When you fully understand what was going on Coln St. Dennis, you will be officially classed as honourary Brits. I'm related to Americans who were stationed in Lakenheath and they never travelled more than 10 miles the whole time they were here. That's why I'll keep watching. I have a barely controllable urge to offer my services as a historical, geographical and cultural guide to England (& the UK) but I have a feeling you'll get along just fine as you are. Please keep up the good work!
I love input and appreciate you being kind and supportive! I turly love it here and want to do my best to learn/ share all the wonderful things I can about England/ the UK. I respect this country and love exploring it. Thank you for the comment, my friend. 🤍 Jess
There's something about driving, and walking in the rain, especially in the springtime, that adds that sparkling zest for life, and living. And the birdsong makes it magical. Another great video treat. Thanks again. Sheffield, South Yorkshire. .
The large wall in Great Barrington you commented on was clearly around a large house of some kind. They are very common. I quickly googled and found it would be Barrington Hall.
Hi Jess, it’s great to see that your family had some much fun on this trip and you’ve adapted so well to the slow pace of British country life. The Cotswolds are extremely picturesque and I’m sure you’ve noticed how these very old towns and villages struggle to cope with the demands of 21st century traffic.
What an excellent presentation of your experience, sharing your pleasure with us with well thought out narration, gentle music. How well mannered your driver, displaying patience and manners on our narrow roads, an example to us all. How appreciative you are of the rain so important for our flora and fauna, my husband noticed this small but so important detail, especially as his favourite colour is green! We have just relived a special time we had 30 years ago. Many thanks❤
Thank you so much for your kindness and time watching. We definitely love this experience getting to call the UK home for a while. Blessed learn and make all the fabulous adventures. We're so happy we get to share with you. Also so nice to bring back some wonderful memories for you. We hope you have a lovely weekend. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Very nice and inspiring voice. You should be on TV. Also the music gives a magical touch to the scene except that it's slightly repetitious because it's a very short piece. I've spent time in the Cotswolds and it never rained once, so I think your misty rain tends to add to the intrigue. North Americans should note that during hot dry weather, it's not quite so green everywhere.
Good thing Henry Ford didn't get his way! 😂🙄 Thanks for doing this video, Jess! I'm so glad you got to explore the Cotswolds a bit. Even if it was a rainy day! The Cotswolds is my happy place 💖💖💖. All the best, Dara
We took our sons to the Tewkesbury medieval festival in 2008 when they were little boys. It was so fun! They loved it! And yes I love the abbey... I took my older son (now 26) there last year! ❤
Bakewell and Ashford in the water are just as beautiful in sunshine, but (as a Derbyshire lad) will grudgingly admit, Bibury looks stunning, even when it's pissing down!
@@valeriedavidson2785 ..."the stone has a grey look which is not quite so attractive."... beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there is not absolute truth there!
Hi With your obvious interest in history I would like to suggest a trip to Kentwell hall, this is in Long Melford in Suffolk. 31 miles from Lakenheath journey time 43 minutes. They have what they call “hands on history days” this year it is from 12 to 20 August and they are re-enacting the year 1564 they are open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm the cost for a family ticket bought on line is £68 or £80 on the door. It is like going back in time there are over 200 historic re-enactors who are in the year 1564 they all dress in period costumes and speak they way they would have then. I went a few years ago and arrived at opening time and when it came to closing time I felt there were things I had still not seen. There was a blacksmith making a suit of armour, women making soap, other women washing their clothes in the moat, an alchemist who said that he was looking for the philosophers stone and was trying to convert base metal into gold. I can’t recommend it enough it’s a fantastic experience. The house which is partially open to the public was built in the 1500’s and is surrounded with a moat. The village of Long Melford is also very picturesque being made up of many medieval houses, the town is also known for many antique shops and the pub does good meals. Regards Mathew
Hi Jess & Chris, Very nice video i am from the northwest Lancashire & i have never been to Cotswolds & many other places in the UK i need to get to see because I have been traveling around the world for 35 years but it's getting to that time for me now to visit more of the UK, the Bird you wasn't sure about the specie's it was a male moorhen.
I love to travel and you're very lucky to have been traveling for 35 years. Where all have you been? What is your favorite place? The Cotswolds is so amazing, and we will be back to tour very soon. We appreciate all your lovely support! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Your video really shows off the beauty of this part of England. I can’t speak for you, but it’s nice to see some rain, as it’s been a dry year, and the stunning greenery needs watering. Great video, Chris & Jess. 💙
I love the rain! The smell is so refreshing and clean. I loved exploring as I always love learning as much as I can about this beautiful country. Thank you for watching and your support. It means so much 🤍 Jess
Just a quick correction; it isn't Tewksbury that is being shown at the beginning of the video, but Burford. I lived there and worked at The Mermaid for 5 years. Still the Cotswolds, but Burford.
britain for country of its size has so mutch diversity the distance beetween lands end and dunnett head the most northern part of the scottish mainland is 750 miles and as a bird flys there is no part of britain that is more than 100 miles from the sea
The little black 'duck' is a moorhen (comes from older mere hen, a mere being a lake). They are similar to coots, but have a red forehead, while a coot's is white. This were 'bald as a coot' comes from cos it's head looks bald, the same way that an American eagle is 'bald'.
Good reminder about the fact that these are peoples homes! Another important part of that is not going and looking in their windows! You'd be surprised how many times I've seen that!😮
I lived in Port Sunlight (beautiful Wirral garden Village built in 1890s by Lever for the workers in the soap factory) and often had tourists looking in through the living room window. Our friend had some American tourists knock on the door and ask for a tour 😆
It continues to fascinate me. Americans driving through our country roads and lanes. There`s a sort of incongruity between our country lanes and `the American` - which will not get in the way of a love between two nations. The fact is that we go there ( to the United States ) searching for and seeing things we have never seen before whilst our friends from there yonder come along over here searching for and seeing things they have never seen before - for good or ill ! Now, this Lady Jess has such a soothing way of talking, it makes me think the country I live in might be worth living in. `Most beautiful village in England ?` There are thousands of them. I can`t drive 10 miles missing one.
Well, I know the Cotsworlds quite well, from years of many visits, but usually to the most visited towns and villages; But this made a nice change, with miles of hegerows and walls, and so little traffic.
Next time you visit the Cotswolds, try for a sunny day, it makes all the difference for the colours. Also make sure you stop off at Upper Slaughter, and Lower Slaughter, to see the ducks. Boughton-on-the-Water is a pretty village that has a shallow stream that runs through the main street. There is a model village of the village, that shows, - the model village. Great vids, and glad you are enjoying your time in the UK.
Could listen to your mesmeric voice all day. So pleased you’re all enjoying our little corner (England) of the planet.😊 the “black duck” was a moorhen very common in uk. If you enjoy the Cotswolds, then Bourton-on-the-water is an absolute must. I spent three years of my life there. Keep up great travels. 🙂
Wow, you were about 30 to 40 minutes drive north from my house, basically in my back yard. I’m North Wiltshire on the crossroads between Wiltshire/ Oxfordshire/ Gloucestershire guess I’m lucky living close to all these places, unfortunately when it’s on your doorstep you take it for granted and never appreciate what’s around until good people like yourselves point it out.....found it a bit bizarre looking at the Tourists trying to park in Bibury, I worked there years ago on a listed building, I was fighting my way out to go home and the the tourists were fighting their way in to visit....as your drive clearly shows 😂🤗....glad you enjoyed the day, shame about the rain.
Interesting drive, @10:30 you did the instinctive American thing and pulled across to the righthand verge to let the oncoming car through, the passing place is on the other car’s side so it’s for their use, I always hold back or slow down and let the oncoming vehicle have time to move into their passing place, you carry on no deviation, any car following behind you would have had no where to move to.
Bibury ruined by tourists, mainly Chinese. Used to live up the road in Barnsley but the local 'hotel' for entitled rich twats from London ruined that vibe, so we moved. Still in the Cotswolds.
Daydreamers Barn i thoroughly enjoyed that drive with you, you made me laugh at 11:43, if ony the traffic jams were like that in London, outside of the cities England is a very beautiful place, makes me wish i was born elsewhere sometimes.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the little countryside traffic jam. Nothing like you deal with in London, I'm sure. Takes a brave soul to travel in London daily. 🤍 Jess
We'll need to concrete over it soon. We have to build 300 houses every single day just to cater for immigration from the middle east and eastern europe.
Yes, I'm not surprised you had a hard time finding parking in Bibury. It is such a busy place! It is really best to go either first thing in the morning or at the end of the day... The last time we went to Bibury, we tried parking near the church. But someone was in the middle of having their wedding, so all the streets were packed with wedding guest cars! It's a nice village but not my favourite in the Cotswolds... not in my top 5 even 😉
Oh, thank you. I must have missed that I didn't add Tewksbury during my editing. Thank you for letting me know. Also, Burford was also a gorgeous village with such reaching history. 🤍 Jess

Thanks for an interesting American's-eye drive-through view of a section of the picturesque Cotswolds: sorry about the rain! Plenty of background information, but I'd like to have paused a while to get out of the car and savour the atmosphere and soak in the history of some of the villages - but maybe you'll do this in later videos...? A small point: your opening sequence - a drive through Tewkesbury - was actually a drive through Burford, a tourist honeypot just off the A40 - nowhere near Tewkesbury! And on your drive through Bibury (the 'i' sounds like 'eye') I spotted at least three parking spaces - one before the bridge and two or more kerbside spaces after. You have to grab them while you can! 😀 Nevertheless, congratulations on doing what most tourists don't do...get out of the Smoke (London).
Thank you for that. In the description I explained in editing, a mistake was made not adding Tewkesbury footage in. We will definitely be doing a whole video on Tewkesbury coming soon. The parking spots were to small for our long estate car, unfortunately. Thanks for the recommendation and insight, my friend. 🤍 Jess
She hasn't mastered English parking; just as she was saying no parking yet she was passing plenty of usable spaces. In England we park anywhere there isn't a sign saying don't park here. And we (legally) park against the traffic flow so both sides of the road are available.
Excuse me??? This is an unnecessary comment! Using 'She' is ill mannered of you. And in all fairness, even some British born struggle with parking in tight squeezes. Bore off!
@@AM-dz2sh Why is "she" ill-mannered? Is she not a "she". And I didn't mention tight spaces; rather I was pointing out she didn't recognise some spaces as spaces at all - mainly because they were on the other side of the road and would be illegal to use in the USA.
Hiya, my friend! Up we didn't. I was very ill prospered hints why I mentioned it in the video to call ahead of time. We will define be going back and I will me much more prospered. 🤍 Jess xx
Sorry to correct you, but the first village that you drove through is actually Burford and definitely not Tewkesbury (which is not in the Cotswolds). Tewkesbury is also a nice place to visit though. Like your videos. Enjoy the rest of the United Kingdom. 😊
Many of the walls (thousands of miles worth) are dry stone (no cement or mortar) Therefore they form a multi-story bug complex, filled with many bug predators of things like greenfly. A huge ecological asset.
We're very lucky living on these island's . The architecture is quite unique i believe its down to the fact that we haven't been invaded for an extremely long time. So no wanton distruction . Apart from the great war and the 2nd world war.
I completely agree. This place is just wonderful to explore. Always something new to experience and learn around every corner! Thank you for another wonderful comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Thank you for a great video and description, the area looks really nice it's just a shame the sun wasn't shining for your visit, take care and keep having fun.

But honestly, there are so many stunning places in The Cotswolds. EDIT: Also Castle Combe, as people have pointed out. I forgot about that one. It’s gorgeous.

Those wars were not restricted to the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire, but were between political factions who supported the royal houses of York and Lancaster and involved pretty much the whole country. Tewksbury was indeed the site of a significant battle in the Wars of the Roses.
Jess isn’t wrong. There were Wars of the Roses, between the House of Lancaster and the House of York, over many years. One of those was the Battle of Tewksbury in 1471. Unfortunately (I’m a Lancastrian), this was one of the battles won by the Yorkists 😢. Of course, the House of Lancaster prevailed in the end!
There are villages in Kent,My county, that can give this one a run for its money ,yes and more colourful ,tucked away ,hidden in certain places where the people talk an English quite hard to understand from a foreigners standpoint

I went to visit one of the quarries that supplies Cotswolds stones to the area. That was really fun! And the funniest part was that one of the guys there was talking about how they had shipped Cotswolds stone all the way to Dallas for some rich guy to build his house there! Especially fun coincidence for us, since we live near Dallas in the winter 😉
Loved the traffic jam bit. Those "old lasses" knew full well what they were doing. Good on 'em, i say. P.S Be careful when explaining what the houses were built of. In short, they've never seen a kiln. It's all quarried stone. ( That means/costs "loads" when ya buying or selling. "Authenticity" is the cry ! )
Thank you for your insight, my friend! The traffic jam was a good laugh for our entire family. I laughed so much I was crying. Was a wonderful time exploring this beautiful country. Thank you for your comment and for watching. 🤍 Jess
Great commentary and video footage . Well done. I remember quite a few years ago and during my time in a semi pro band, I spent many late nights travelling country roads in my native country, Scotland, only to be confronted with many crazy situations. One time, driving home at 2.30 in the morning, I was confronted with a rather large Bull standing in the middle of the single track road. The beast was not for moving and was showing signs of using my car as a jousting target. In a bit of a controlled panic, I managed to get the car turned and had to make a ten mile detour to get home. NB the run offs are locally named as Passing places. On best village? We are spoiled with small hamlets and villages, many still holding many centuries of history, and to compare is iffy. God bless
Not sure who was driving, but they did a great job. They should include waiting for old ladies having a chat as part of the driving test 👍🏻

Hi Jess , great video , glad to see you weren't put off using the back roads , you can miss so much if you do . The Cotswalds is a truly beautiful place , so glad you took your time to enjoy it .🇬🇧
Thank you friend it was so much fun as always. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 🤍 Jess
Charmingly presented. A trade-mark feature of your Channel.
Oh, thank you my sweet friend! I love sharing a look through our eyes into your beautiful country. Thank you for your comment and support. 🤍 Jess
It wouldn't be England without those lovely narrow roads.
Very true statement.
🤍 Jess
@@DaydreamersBarn Take a small boat along with you! I love Tewkesbury and frequently visit, when it pokes up above the water......
Jess, Chris just stunning and the locals clearly made you chuckle! Thanks for sharing guys Brilliant as well as relaxing viewing
Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
.
It does add a special something to it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Such a stunning part of our wee Isle. Great to see you are getting used to our back roads!
It's so beautifully love this country! Thank you for watching. 🤍 Jess
The large wall in Great Barrington you commented on was clearly around a large house of some kind. They are very common. I quickly googled and found it would be Barrington Hall.
Thank you for the insight and information. We really appreciate your time watching and sharing with us. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You have a huge Wool Church just down the road from you in Lavenham, well worth a look if you haven’t already done so.
Thank you for that recommendation!! 🤍 Jess
@@DaydreamersBarn The village has a lot of medieval timber framed buildings and the Swan hotel does good food
Yes England is lovely in the summer, and you need a lot of traffic patience 🤯. You make jolly good fun videos. Well done 👌🏻
Thanks, friend! We love it here so much. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. 🤍 Jess
The Cotswolds are amazing, so many "Period movies" are filmed there and you can see why, it's like stepping back in time.
Oh very interesting. Thank you for sharing. Loved exploring and can't wait for our return trip to the Cotswolds. 🤍 Jess
The trout were near the trout farm. 🐟 That is my favourite part of Bibury.
I agree, she is a star in my eyes 🤩. Thanks for commenting. Cheers, Chris
Inspiring voice?? Lols
Good thing Henry Ford didn't get his way! 😂🙄
Thanks for doing this video, Jess!
Derbyshire is not as pretty as the Cotswolds and the stone has a grey look which is not quite so attractive.
@@valeriedavidson2785 ..."the stone has a grey look which is not quite so attractive."... beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there is not absolute truth there!
Thank you for the recommendation, my friend! Will definitely be checking them out. Thanks 🤍 Jess
Hi
With your obvious interest in history I would like to suggest a trip to Kentwell hall, this is in Long Melford in Suffolk.
Regards
Mathew
Thank you for sharing, my friend! Will definitely look at that. That sounds like fun. 🤍 Jess
You are correct, my friend! Was an editor mistake. 🤍 Jess
britain for country of its size has so mutch diversity the distance beetween lands end and dunnett head the most northern part of the scottish mainland is 750 miles and as a bird flys there is no part of britain that is more than 100 miles from the sea
That is very good insight. Thank you for sharing! 🤍 Jess
britain is a lot furthur north than people think new york toronto montreal are on the same latitude as lisbon madrid and rome
You are a great Family. Part of you will be forever England now. 👍
Thank you, my friend! I hope so. This place is so magnificent. 🤍 Jess
The little black 'duck' is a moorhen (comes from older mere hen, a mere being a lake). They are similar to coots, but have a red forehead, while a coot's is white. This were 'bald as a coot' comes from cos it's head looks bald, the same way that an American eagle is 'bald'.
Thank you so much, friend, for sharing about the Coots! 🤍 Jess
If we could control the weather we would. Hopefully it is better next time. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Watching again, so relaxing. Castle Combe is the most picturesque village (Wiltshire). Still classed as part of the cotswolds
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I try so hard to ensure it's a good product. Thank you for the support. 🤍 Jess
Bath and cirencester (City's) are both amazing in the cotswolds.
Thank you for the recommendation, friend! 🤍 Jess
That sounds like a great place to visit. Glad you enjoyed the video and the voice. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Thanks for the input, my friend. Have a lovely evening. 🤍 Jess
Yeah, it all looks very nice but it gets boring after 20 years or so, I know, I live there.
Castle combe is a prettier village than Bibury, but also in the Cotswold. Near Chippenham , Bristol and Bath.
Will definitely check it out. Thank you! 🤍 Jess

We'll need to concrete over it soon. We have to build 300 houses every single day just to cater for immigration from the middle east and eastern europe.
Thanks for the comment.
It's a nice village but not my favourite in the Cotswolds... not in my top 5 even 😉
The first scene of driving down the street in Tewkesbury is actually Burford
Oh, thank you. I must have missed that I didn't add Tewksbury during my editing. Thank you for letting me know. Also, Burford was also a gorgeous village with such reaching history. 🤍 Jess
Should of visited in the summer when everything is in bloom but saying that 300,000 thousands tourists visit the Cotswolds a year.So anyone coming to the Cotswolds your best getting up early to dodge all the tourists..
Regardless of the time, it was a pleasant trip. Cheers, Chris.

The black duck with a red beak is a moorhen ☺️

The old style red sports car @19:02, is actually a replica of a 1930s MG Magnet, according to the DVLA database it's a kit-car supplied by a firm called J C Midge, and first registered in March 1969.
Oh, thank you for the insight, my friend! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and share with me. 🤍 Jess

Hi, good video but the first village you visited was not Tewksbury, it was Burford
I think you'll find that the opening clip shows a trip along the main street of Burford, NOT Tewkesbury.
Thanks, many have let me know. A mistake was made during editing, and I added that to the video description.

Thanks for watching! 🤍 Jess
Awesome video as always guys .

Nevertheless, congratulations on doing what most tourists don't do...get out of the Smoke (London).
🤍 Jess
@@DaydreamersBarn Ooops! Forgive me for my moment of unobservance! Look forward to your Tewkesbury video.
She hasn't mastered English parking; just as she was saying no parking yet she was passing plenty of usable spaces. In England we park anywhere there isn't a sign saying don't park here. And we (legally) park against the traffic flow so both sides of the road are available.
Oh my friend, I'm working on that one step at a time.. Thanks for the comment. 🤍 Jess
Beautiful!

Many of the walls (thousands of miles worth) are dry stone (no cement or mortar) Therefore they form a multi-story bug complex, filled with many bug predators of things like greenfly. A huge ecological asset.

I seem to recall that one resident of Arlington Row was so fed up with day trippers, that he/she left their sports car out in front of the cottage. Well it was bright yellow or orange, so it spoiled everyone's photo of this perfect English view!

God bless
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, my friend! Also, that would have terrified me. You're very brave. Thank you for sharing your story. 🤍 Jess
