It's great to see Mikael Carlson showing just what the Fokker Dr1 was capable of! Most demonstrations of replica Dr1's don't go as far as he does, they're mostly tail-chasing "dogfights." (Not that I blame them for being careful, don't misunderstand!) But we do need a good reminder that 100 years ago these airplanes weren't curiousities, they weren't toys, they were WEAPONS.
Cool performance of the pilot. He can really fly the Fokker Dr. 1 and he seems to enjoy it. Great photo as well. Thank you for the video, like it a lot. :)
Man it's my dream to fly a Dr1 (or any WW1 aircraft for that matter). I fly the Dr1 all the time in flight simulators, but it would be so amazing to pilot it in real life. Some day maybe!
Incredible how fast these plane can turn. The only thing which might freighten me ist the fact, that you don´t have neither mixture control nor throttle :-) Touch down requires a lot of experience
I think they ONLY had mixture control on the rotary. For altitude changes. Full on or full off throttle hence the "blip, blip " Also absurd pulling to the right caused by the rotational characteristics of all that engine rotating around the stationary crankshaft.
я рад что хотя бы немцы сохраняют старую боевую технику и вообще само отношение к памяти .... у нас я уже не вижу о таких старых самолетах. либо малая часть какая-то стоит в музее.. а техника интересна когда она в действии -- она тогда живет.
Slow, not as good at climbing like the Camel... but in the hands of a great pilot the turning and rolling were a great asset. Terrible times, it’s good to remember them
How much of plane is vintage? Any of it? I thought we destroyed all that German equipment at end of that war. Over 100 yrs old...can't believe engine authentic.
Not sure if any parts are actually from WW1, but it`s fully build to original specs, including the Oberursel rotary engine. Here is a great article with detailed information. vintageaviationecho.com/fokker-dr1/
Attack nr.1 - 1:17
Attack nr.2 - 1:33 (I think that was a hit)
Attack nr.3 - 2:55

Finally someone that actually shows off the capabilities by flying it hard instead of going just flying around in circles. Amazing.
Sweet! Must not be one of the Dr-1s from the Blue Max film. They were supposed to be terrible. This guy is putting it through its paces. Wunderbar!
Superb tight turns, amazing...
Outstanding. First time I've seen one do aerobatics. Very nice and so cool. Thanks for sharing a stunning aircraft. Great maneuvers.
Amazing pilot! You have to truly admire the performance of the Fokker. So agile!
Fokker Dr.I
What a legendary bird.

And I thought the DVII could shake her tail feathers! Nice moves! Shades of Ol'Rhinebeck in New York. Great post, thanks
That is truly awesome !!!!¡ You need a jet with controllable thrust to maneuver like that
That Dr.I is a delight to watch! Hopefully one day they'll get a rotary for that E.III as well.

Genial, die beiden Fokker 😍👍
What, did he really say formation flying using only ignition on/off?
Crazy shit but beautiful aircraft
yes
@@PaddyPatrone it's awesome seeing old birds like these fly again
On/OFF was throttle control, ......
Haben die beiden Fokker Replicas wirklich noch original Umlaufmotoren? Respekt an die Piloten!
Ja, die DR.1 zumindest

The camel was faster and climbed better but this thing was so good at aerobatics I’m not sure how it was possible.
Wtf. I would Piss Off my Pants . If should Fly whis this
How did they make the gun sounds?
I think they have some kind of pneumatic piston thing going on in the dummy guns, but could be wrong.
Amazing work there Paddy. How are you doing during these pretty tough times?
Thanks Asif, I`m doing just fine. Unfortunately no airshows this year. But maybe some other stuff. Will see how that goes.
Was this equipped with a rotary engine or a modern-ish radial?
They should paint it red.
1:50 onwards... No way!...
A sixpence seems too big.

@@PaddyPatrone, good to know, I wondered whether the engine was original as well.
