How often do you take it off road? Can you describe a typical off road for you? I’d like to have one because of all the bells and whistles. Seems like a comfortable on road ride, but just wondering if it’s overkill if I never leave the pavement with it
I have only had it for a week so other than the dirt road heading to the farm and some of the horrendous roads with potholes in DC, I have't gotten it out on the trails yet. It did do well over the potholes and it was fun to rip around the dirt road with one bit dip into a puddle heading to the farm. When I lived in Hawaii I took my eco diesel gladiator to the north shore and took it on some of the trails and in and out of some of the big deep washouts there which was fun but never any real rock crawling or anything too serious because that truck, and this one, will be my daily driver. I am also sort of a loner so I don't want to do anything that is going to snap and axle or a control arm when I am out by myself and get stranded. I am a very casual off roader. I will be taking it out to a local trail this weekend or next and I'll try to get some footage but there are some other channels with some amazing content of these things ripping around the assault course and on some of the trails in Utah so anything I put together will pale in comparison
I’ve seen plenty of those videos already. I’m with you. This truck would be my daily driver so I don’t want to jeopardize damaging it either, and likely wouldn’t take it to those extremes. Plus, it’s an expensive truck and I can’t afford to repair the thing all the time. I have a 2015 Colorado and have just been revisiting to midsize market to see what’s out there. The Ranger Raptor is overkill for me but I sure do like its looks. Seems a bit wider than my Colorado from what I’m seeing, which is nice. I’m going to test drive one as soon as I can find some in my area. Oh, and love the green. That and White are the two colors I’d pick from.
@@flaberdoopin need the lights! Lol. Get one of those stealth light bars that go behind the grill, amber/white fog lights ditch lights chase lights. You’d probably end up using the lights more than a winch. all are good to get, better to have when you need than need it and don’t have.
@@gkm8486 for sure... i was a boyscout so i'm all about "being prepared". light bar behind the grill sounds like a great idea, i dont like them out on display but having them would be useful. This is going to be my daily driver so i'm not sure about a winch... i'll probably just have a come-along in the back to use if i ever get in a pickle along with some snatch straps and chains
FYI, the winch doesn't get connected to the upfitters. Everyone makes this mistake in videos... but a winch has much higher draw than those switches could possibly handle. You COULD wire the switch to a relay, but that's pretty pointless since almost any new winch doesn't have parasitic draw when off. Those switches are for lights or maybe a radio.
@@jgelliot 100%, all an aux switch would be good for is to power the relay... i didn't realize that they had gotten so good to avoid any slow draw when not in use, that is good to know. I dont think i will have 6 switches worth of lights but you never know. Probably use one for a compressor, one for a radio and 1-2 for lights and have two for extra stuff... possibly a little fridge in the back if i set up for overlanding. maybe a little water pump for a portable shower. man, i'm coming up with all sorts of ideas right now
What are you hearing about long term reliability? We all know range raptor looks cool and is capable, but I wonder the outlook whether these things will last 100K miles without issues….especially since it’s twin turbo.
i saw your comment on the other video as well.. thanks for watching. here is what I put on that other comment just in case you check this one first... "I know the guys in the rest of the world are having a lot of luck with the reliability. we have only had it for a month in the United States but the same motor is in the Explorer ST and they are going strong and have been in use since 2020. I think it is too early to tell but the signs are good. there will always be outliers but i have confidence based on the data i can gather." Cheers!
Totally! I am about to get online and see if there is a quality seat cover that has a ventilation system that I can help on up to one of my six switches that will do the job
Awesome. I dont think you will regret it. The Tacoma is an amazing truck and if history tells us anythign, they hold their value and they are reliable but the Raptors are just so freaking cool and hard to beat. I really think these will hold value as well compared to standard rangers
Just a question, but why are you worried about gas mileage in a Raptor? Thats like me worrying about gas mileage in my Shelby. Nice truck !Think its a better choice than new Taco PRO, and I'm a taco owner!
Thanks. I’m not worried about the mileage, my last car was an M3… I’m just keeping track of the mileage and letting people know what it is getting. normally turbo charged vehicles can get half way decent mileage when you aren’t ragging on it, this one doesn’t seem to have a ‘good mileage’ mode haha
I was on the ford website and it said all time 4wd is standard, does that mean it's always in 4wd? I prefer to be in 2wd high when driving. Is that possible?
I think that basically means 4wd Auto, it’s basically an AWD system, where the truck will send power to any / all of the wheels at any given time based on the conditions, but defaults to 2wd.
I have a question regarding the system. For instance, if I turn off the safety distance radar or the auto start-stop, then I switch the car off then leave for a couple of minutes, then I come back and start the car, will those two main things be off or would I have to turn them off again from the system? (sorry for the long message)
If you turn off the distance radar, i think that setting will stay off until you go in and turn it back on... but i'm not sure on that. As for the auto start stop, it will have to be turned back on every time. I know that if you are only out for a few min (like getting gas or running into the store really quick) there will be an option to go back into previous driving mode with all settings (to include auto start stop disabled if you had it off before) but you have to accept that prompt, if you do nothing, it just goes back to normal mode with auto start stop enabled again. Hope this helps answer your qeustions. I can try to do a video on this specifically when i get back home becasue i think it would be something more people are interested in!
I am surprised by all of the different options available and not available in different markets around the world on the same trim vehicle... i figured it would left or right hand drive and the rest would be standard.
haha, i got the truck a week ago and have been doing daily posts... there is so much cool stuff about this truck and normally i dont drive this much but anytime my kids want to do somehing or go somewhere i jump at the chance to take them... and i work 40 miles from my house, so that commute is a pain if i dont take a bus or train.
Sadly that isn't even and option... guess they decided that not enough people wanted it. i would have gotten it if it were an option but i guess we will just have to deal with the windows down
Hi from South Africa. It was intriguing me about the fuel door… I even went to check mine on my raptor and if the vehicle is locked the flap is locked too. Must be a US spec thing.
Nice video, but can i ask you a question about the horizontal of the vehicle body. Since i owned Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0 and when i turning or taking a curve road, it shakes hard in horizontal way. It makes my back passengers feel uncomfortable. So do you have this issue with your Ranger Raptor since your car shock is different from mine. Thanks in advanced.
There is no way to disable it completely without adding a piece of hardware that connects to the OBD2, but you can have the setting turned off in your "raptor profile" that you can access with the push of a button on the steering wheel at start up. I currently have my R button on the wheel set to go into sport mode with Auto start stop off... i just press the button each time i turn it on and it is disabled... if that becomes too much of a pain, i plan on buying the little piece of kit that i hook up to the OBD2 to disable completely.
thanks, the shelter green is pretty great in the sun. i am using the mophie mount that connects to the air vents... i have found that it is really only safe to use on the outside vents because the inside vents aren't wide enough and it puts extra stress on the plastic.
In sport mode it disables the auto start stop… and you can program the ‘R’ button on the steering wheel so when you start up you press the ‘R’ button twice and it sets all of the settings to your preset. I think I’ll do that but if it becomes a problem I’ll just buy the little module to disable it
I will see how it does on a road trip from VA to CO in July, i'm hoping for north of 20 if i am just cruising on the highway for hours at a time. that being said, i didn't buy this thing to get good mileage... it would be nice, but i'll take performance over mileage in this truck and maybe buy a little diesel jetta for my commute in the near future.
That is a great question and when I was under there I wasn't looking for that, but that would help deter the quick sawzall thief. I didn't see the cats when I was under so they were probably tucked away. I'll get back to you on this for sure
@@flaberdoopin i have only had it for about 5 months i usually turn it off with the button every time i get in but im sure it dose put wear and tear on the starter
it's good for a small truck... i dont have a dragy yet (gonna order it this weekend) but from what i have seen they run 5.8-6.1 seconds 0-60... i have slammed on the brakes to see how they are and i was pleasantly surprised! they really do grip
i was thinking the same thing... i mean it is a good 6-8 inches higher up than anything else down there so it is probably safe, but i'll be looking for a full undercarriage skid plate package for sure.

I didn't order it... i got super lucky that one of the salesmen took pics of it coming off the truck at the dealer and posted it to facebook marketplace as "on the lot ready to go" and i was there the next day... got it for 2K over... guess thats the price you pay to get what you want when lots of other people want it too but i think i got off easy compared to some of the markups i have seen
tank is 20 gallons and if you drive 65-70 on the highway it will get 20ish mpg (maybe a tad more) so theoretically you could get 400 and be limping on fumes... i'd feel safe at 340-350 if planning a trip.
@@gkm8486 that's definitely fair. I think bronco Raptors are way overpriced. Currently have a gen 1 raptor but would consider a ranger raptor in the future. Dream would be raptor r but that's ridiculous money🤣
price was one of the big deciding factor, and i live near DC and drive into the city for work so i wanted something a little smaller but still fun to drive and able to take a load of crap to the dump or bring a piece of plywood or drywall home from the home improvement store
@@flaberdoopin you think they'll make a ranger Raptor R model? That would be wild. Wish they had the grill marker lights like f150 but guess it's not as wide so not needed.

that ZR2 Bison is awesome... for me it came down to the power train... i like ford ecoboost motors... now, if chevy threw a 3L diesel in that colorado, i'd be leaning that way. I also think the bison is more of a rock crawler while the raptor is a baja type truck... maybe i'm wrong on that
I'm throwing a red flag on those CV driveshafts on design and material longevity...as you can see the rust already becoming prominent. The rust will work it's way in the boots of the shafts although sealed, which will contaminate and mix with the grease thereby wearing the bearings and producing above normal temperatures internally at these pivot points due to friction especially at high speeds. An upgraded version is highly recommended as these shafts will fail prematurely. you're welcome.🚩😫
See, now this is kind of the thought process i had and i kept seeing the comments on how it is just surface rust and not to worry... all rust starts as surface rust... that's how rust works and over time it destroys stuff. I plan on cleaning it the best i can and painting it for now and hoping that i got it in time so that your scenario doesn't come to pass! Thanks for the response, i appreciate it!
While i agree with the concept, it sadly doesn't seem to work out in reality... it is a lot like communism, on paper it seems like the best system out there, everyone works just as hard as everyone else, and everyone gets what they need, but in reality it all falls apart.
Wiper fluid low, anyone? It's definitely not low, there's no leak, and it comes up on my screen a week after the topup (first time it came up I thought dealer didn't top it up), I don't even squeeze it that much ;)

Have you given any thoughts on what you’re going to use your Aux switches for yet?
I’m still debating… air compressor, maybe winch, probably no lights, possibly a bigger power converter. Any suggestions?
I'm interested in your oil pressure too. Mine is low at idle but increases to normal levels with rpm. I think they have a two stage pump but not sure.
I will take a more detailed look at it next time I am driving and get back to you on that... I think you are likely right that it is a 2 stage pump
It’s a variable displacement oil pump.
A solenoid allows constant oil pump output adjustment.
It’s a lot more variable than a 2-stage pump.
The 2.7 EBand Gen 4 5.0 Coyote has the same basic setup.
@@BC08 that is awesome... thank you for the information.

Thank you for this video, I am leaning towards this over the Tacoma now.
Awesome. I dont think you will regret it. The Tacoma is an amazing truck and if history tells us anythign, they hold their value and they are reliable but the Raptors are just so freaking cool and hard to beat. I really think these will hold value as well compared to standard rangers
Did you have to pay dealer markup? My son is a certified Ford mechanic in Maryland and they have not gotten any Ranger Raptors yet,
I paid 2K over... and it was worth it to me
Just a question, but why are you worried about gas mileage in a Raptor?
I think that basically means 4wd Auto, it’s basically an AWD system, where the truck will send power to any / all of the wheels at any given time based on the conditions, but defaults to 2wd.
it is in 2H in normal and sport mode... you can select 4A but I'm with you on preferring 2wd high for normal dry summer freeway driving.
I’m sure the mpg will get better when it’s broke in. 👍
5k miles in here, nope haha
You worry about too many things. You drive truck now have fun with it.
I hope so!
Wish they had that colour in New Zealand
I am surprised by all of the different options available and not available in different markets around the world on the same trim vehicle... i figured it would left or right hand drive and the rest would be standard.
500 mile update? Did I miss the "drove it home from the dealership" update?
haha, i got the truck a week ago and have been doing daily posts... there is so much cool stuff about this truck and normally i dont drive this much but anytime my kids want to do somehing or go somewhere i jump at the chance to take them... and i work 40 miles from my house, so that commute is a pain if i dont take a bus or train.
its like the 1 car i feel like is a worthy upgrade from my tacoma. gr so tempted
Go for it! you wont regret it
They don’t come with moonroofs do they?
Sadly that isn't even and option... guess they decided that not enough people wanted it. i would have gotten it if it were an option but i guess we will just have to deal with the windows down
Hi from South Africa. It was intriguing me about the fuel door… I even went to check mine on my raptor and if the vehicle is locked the flap is locked too. Must be a US spec thing.
that's crazy... so yours locks in south africa and ours dont here in the US... great info, thanks for the comment!
Good day! I have not noticed any shaking or rolling when taking turns at higher speed in my ranger raptor! Cheers

Can you disable that horrendous auto start stop that just destroys engines ?
There is no way to disable it completely without adding a piece of hardware that connects to the OBD2, but you can have the setting turned off in your "raptor profile" that you can access with the push of a button on the steering wheel at start up. I currently have my R button on the wheel set to go into sport mode with Auto start stop off... i just press the button each time i turn it on and it is disabled... if that becomes too much of a pain, i plan on buying the little piece of kit that i hook up to the OBD2 to disable completely.
Thank you
You're welcome, cheers
Love the colour!
Thanks, I really like it too
I really like that color and what kind of I phone mount is that you are using with mag safe
thanks, the shelter green is pretty great in the sun. i am using the mophie mount that connects to the air vents... i have found that it is really only safe to use on the outside vents because the inside vents aren't wide enough and it puts extra stress on the plastic.
How do you plan to disable to auto stop/start?
In sport mode it disables the auto start stop… and you can program the ‘R’ button on the steering wheel so when you start up you press the ‘R’ button twice and it sets all of the settings to your preset. I think I’ll do that but if it becomes a problem I’ll just buy the little module to disable it
Damn, I got 21 in a 18 Raptor and 22 in a Big Bend Bronco... 15 and 18 yikes?
I will see how it does on a road trip from VA to CO in July, i'm hoping for north of 20 if i am just cruising on the highway for hours at a time. that being said, i didn't buy this thing to get good mileage... it would be nice, but i'll take performance over mileage in this truck and maybe buy a little diesel jetta for my commute in the near future.
Is there a skid plate over the catalytic converter?
That is a great question and when I was under there I wasn't looking for that, but that would help deter the quick sawzall thief. I didn't see the cats when I was under so they were probably tucked away. I'll get back to you on this for sure
my 2020 ford ranger also uses the starter for auto start stop
Good to know. Any issues after 4 years? I’m assuming it is fine, they engineered for it but still additional wear and tear.
@@flaberdoopin i have only had it for about 5 months i usually turn it off with the button every time i get in but im sure it dose put wear and tear on the starter

How quick is it?
it's good for a small truck... i dont have a dragy yet (gonna order it this weekend) but from what i have seen they run 5.8-6.1 seconds 0-60... i have slammed on the brakes to see how they are and i was pleasantly surprised! they really do grip
You have your car for a few days and already at 500 miles while i don't even have 500 miles on mine and i have it since February
I wish I could take it easier on the truck but my commute is long and my kids always want to go to the farm to see their horse!
@@flaberdoopin oh that explains it
No transmission skid plate 😮
i was thinking the same thing... i mean it is a good 6-8 inches higher up than anything else down there so it is probably safe, but i'll be looking for a full undercarriage skid plate package for sure.
You should name it The Rusty Raptor! ✌️

What’s the full range on a full tank?
tank is 20 gallons and if you drive 65-70 on the highway it will get 20ish mpg (maybe a tad more) so theoretically you could get 400 and be limping on fumes... i'd feel safe at 340-350 if planning a trip.

I do really like this truck. I struggle oking $60k for a midsize pickup. Also I want 35’s so I’d lean ZR2 Bison but same price issues.
that ZR2 Bison is awesome... for me it came down to the power train... i like ford ecoboost motors... now, if chevy threw a 3L diesel in that colorado, i'd be leaning that way. I also think the bison is more of a rock crawler while the raptor is a baja type truck... maybe i'm wrong on that

Smaller engine works harder it’s simple math.
I do love math but I think there is a lot more to it than that.
Not necessarily, there’s a lot of factors that go into fuel mileage …..weight, rolling resistance, power etc…
CV shafts have been used for years and very dependable…it’s been proven they can handle more load than a conventional u-joint.

Hold the line….don’t pay over Msrp…..Or everyone gets screwed.
While i agree with the concept, it sadly doesn't seem to work out in reality... it is a lot like communism, on paper it seems like the best system out there, everyone works just as hard as everyone else, and everyone gets what they need, but in reality it all falls apart.
Gas mileage on a new car is not accurate until several thousand miles. The engine needs to break in, and reduce friction.
Great to know, thank you for the info
