I know we love to see Virat scoring runs and some of us compare him with past grates like Sachin but Sachin was a different level cricket player. He used to create magic on the crease. He entertained us for 24 years. He made his runs against all time great bowlers like Mcgrath, Warne, Saqlain, Murali, Donalds, Walsh, Wasim etc. His records can be broken but his magical betting performances can't be recreated by any players ever.

I honestly don't get what Chappell did wrong here. He wasn't criticizing Tendulkar, he was wondering why he wasn't leaving his crease. He asked him about it at the end of day's play and was satisfied with the answer.
I dunno how things are in India, but in the rest of the world, a commentator's job is to provide technical context of the overall game to the lay viewer (in particular on what they think the fielding team or the batsmen are doing that is interesting). Ian Chappell and Ritchie Benaud were the two commentators who are by far and away the best at this. Commentary is not just "Oh that's another magnificent shot by Tendulkar". I would personally much prefer to hear this sort of analysis.

He bowls and *CRACK* Tendulkar goes down on one knee for the lofted sweep and skies Chappell over the legside boundary for six. Chappell has one ball remaining.

No one was schooled. Ian simply pointed out Sachins seemingly sudden choice to start leaving the crease against hogg at such a specific point in the series. Sachin explained his actions in turn. I urge all cricket fans to read his book, you will get a real idea of how a master plays the game. To me it seems very similar to how the great boxers and various other athletes have gone about there business. Developing a great ability to adapt mid-match/game to the given situation. You tell a batsman, right, go out there and play your natural game, but don't play any drives/hooks/whatever and the vast majority will fail insipidly as it ruins there rhythm. The greats like Tendulkar can add a new dimension to there game as needed. It is because of this that I personally rate him higher then any other batsman I've ever seen. Also, while I didn't feel it was on display in this clip, Ian chappell is an arrogant fuckwitt. Up the aussies!

I think at 2:27 Chappel actually meant that Sachin is capable of playing very technical, yet careful strokes, but yet chooses to slog. This must have reminded him of Greg Chappell's initial downfall with slogging, then switching to a more watchful batting approach. Sachin used to get out a number of times due to slogging. In any case, the next ball going for four on a sweep shut him up. :p

He may have been an average batsman, but FYI he was a great captain. Also, just because somebody is not a great player, does not mean that they cannot comment about great players. Harsha Bhogle has not even played first class cricket, but yet comments about so many players. Sunil Gavaskar is a great cricketer, but highly biased at times as a commentator.

Great innings! But I cannot see why anybody could get offended by this? Chappell is a former Test cricketer, he was also a very, very good player of spin bowling so as a paid media commentator offers his opinion and asks why a tactic is being adopted...well take him out and shoot him, how dare he! It is what we want our cricket commentators to do, offer their experience and ask questions!!! Some of you Indian supporters in particular need to take a chill pill.
