Hi Jeff, like the new intro; clean and simple. Love your work and the knowledge you share. These interviews are wonderful and you’ve got great guests. I know you have a lot to offer on all these subjects, but as an interviewer, less is more and try to hold back and give the mic to your guest more. Your audience is here to listen to your guests. Your knowledge on the subject should be used to direct the conversation and getting the guest to share their knowledge and experience. You can share your knowledge in separate episodes on your own on the topics. Keep up the great work. 👍

Well - I'm convinced. Thanks for sharing this. I just purchased an early 70s 30' sailboat that had a rat's nest for an electrical system. I'm currently doing research into various components I'll need to build from scratch. One thing I was interested in was a wind generator - but now I think I'll just add more solar. Thanks again.

Great videos! Its amazing how much solar has changed! 20 years ago when I was outfitting my cruising sailboat, it was wind first, then solar as solar panels were relatively low output. I had a AirX wind gen and a 65 watt solar panel. that panel was the same size as todays 100watt panels and we didn;t have MPPT controllers either, just PWM!

had wind...bearings shot...not having it any more..just having solar...
Tried trading couple of times by myself but made great losses it hasn't been easy for me

this is true trading the financial market wasn't easy for me at first with the help of my stock broker I earn a minimum of $13,600 by weekly per $1k investment I make.
I would use both (wind + solar) and add hydrogeneration. For redundancy. Never liked the idea of putting all my eggs in one basket.
& Seagulls dont get destroyed by solar panels witch happened to me just out side Tonga in 30+ Kts - What a mess .

Agreed. As solar panels become more efficient and don't require maintenance - like wind and hydro generators - I would say fit as much solar as possible - supplement with wind generation or hydro generation if you are looking of some energy generation redundancy. As with anything to do with boats, trade offs are required.
Imho, the type of renewable energy sources to install depends greatly on: 1) type of sailing (offshore/ocean vs coastal), 2) the type of boat (monohull vs catamaran vs motorboat), 3) average expected boat speed through the water (if considering hydro generators), 4) average expected apparent wind speeds (if considering wind generators)
For most install cases, ie coastal cruising, imho, solar panels easily beat out wind and hydro generation, no question. Likewise for motor boats, solar panels the way to go for 99% of cases.
However, for ocean / offshore sailing, imho:
a) in slower monohulls, solar panels supplemented with wind generation is a good option (potential energy production 24 hours/day if wind, and especially at night, assuming you prepared for wind generator install issues and maintenance). Monohull sailboats usually have limited real estate for solar panel installs and the slower boat speeds make hydro generator less effective.
b) in performance catamarans, solar panels supplemented with hydro generation is a good option (potential energy production 24 hours/day if boat speed, and especially at night, assuming you prepared for hydro generator install issues and maintenance). Catamaran sailboats usually have real estate for solar panel installs and the higher boat speeds make hydro generator more effective.

Good to have back up systems....wind can work 24 hours per day whereas solar doesn't do much after hours...
