Sleep Token is an amazing band to listen to. I think my favorite thing about this band is their MELODIES... They are SO fun to sing and use to explore what our voices want to do over them.
Will Ramos does an absolutely incredible job nodding to Vessel's style while adding to it and making it completely his own! I break down the various techniques Will uses in his vocal performance and help anyone who is looking to do great covers explore how to lean into their own strengths!

Will is just my favorite person. It's like he mastered life and he's on new game +, just loving life and helping everyone
He's mine as well. And every sweet sentiment like this to him that I come across brings me so much joy and idk why. I have never rooted for someone this much in my life before.
My jaw literally dropped when I heard Will sing, I've only ever heard him do harsh vocals, so hearing him do clean vocals was just shocking

I am impressed. Listening to Will in Lorna Shore, I thought he's a vocalist that's all about the screams. So I was expecting this to be a screamed version of the song... And bam! There he is singing cleanly, and I love his cleans!
Holy hell! I didn't think I'd be as impressed as I was with the To The Hellfire one-take but I AM. His voice is fucking gorgeous. What an incredible singer.
It's a joy to watch, listen to your excitement over Will's voice and style, that you're so comfortable with your own beautiful voice to demonstrate the points you're making. Thank you for this, for highlighting some of the bazillion reasons that Will has the ability to stop us dead in our tracks and steal the breath from our lungs listening to him.
Man... I feel like I've been opened up to a whole new world since seeing your video with Will. That's how I found out about him, his band, and Sleep Token. All 3 are absolutely mind blowing to me.
Agreed, but instead, my first experience with Will/Lorna Shore was when The Charismatic Voice reacted to the entire Pain Remains trilogy, and I fell in love with them. Then I found his clean version of Hypnosis and Chokehold and loved them, but had no idea about Sleep Token. And now here I am, listening to their new album in it's entirety everyday since it released 😂

The last time he sings "blood" right before the "chokehold"-bit, as he's breathing out at the end, it sounds like he's growling, like "bloooodh-grrh". It's subtle, but also so strong. I *love* that! And I love seeing analyses like this 😃

I honestly like his version more than ST. Those screams really make it heavier and bring a bit of more depth to the song. I feel a little guilty but I always listen to this version instead of ST. Lol

Thank you for pointing out how different Wills version is. Reactors keep saying that Will sounds exactly like Vessel. This drives me nuts, because I'm very particular about voices (I wish I wasn't but I can't help it) and I don't like Vessels voice/articulation but I absolutely love Wills version.

Great video Chris. I've really been getting into Sleep Token lately after giving them another chance and I'm glad I've come around on them. In my experience singing this song (in my car 🤣), the end of this song is really great for training on breath control and note sustenance, and I'm having a lot of fun in trying to find my own way of doing it while still having enough breath to do the little sigh Vessel does at the closing seconds.

I love Will! He seems so kind, genuine and humble. He blows me away every time I listen to Lorna Shore. Hearing his clean vocals is an equal experience. The Pain Remains Trilogy makes me sob each time I hear it. What a talented man. Thank you for this deep dive, Chris!

Chris, in terms of aggressiveness, you could check Fernanda Lira from "Crypta" band. It's death metal style and her voice is unbelievable

unrelated to the video (apologies) but I wanted to say that I highly recommend that at some point you listen to MCR's guitarist Frank Iero's solo work, specifically from the album Parachutes if u wanna start from there. He is INSANELY underrated as a vocalist in my opinion, and i think he just does so many interesting with his voice that brings a marriage of a folksy twang combined with that emo grit tone + those screams/wails (the track I'll Let You Down is the pinnacle of this) I'd love to hear your professional take on it, plus I've never really seen a vocal coach actually make a video about him. No pressure though, just would love even if you gave his music a chance privately, honestly.
This is probably the wrong analysis video to ask this on, but can you analyze the voice of Jay Buchanan from Rival Sons? He is an absolutely killer singer and is the best rock singer of the 2010s and 2020s in my opinion.

For a guy that has done harsh vocals for 14 years(and im goingo to guess almost 0 cleans) hes really good, obviously there is some tuning on the voice, but still, better than a lot of moderns pop singers lol, if he had more practice on cleans he would be very good

I don't use any of that stuff. I drink regular water, sometimes with a straw. When I do straw drills for warmups, I just use a regular straw and a water glass. I don't use any special teas or drops or anything. I feel like those products are just there to sell you something. :)
Hey Chris I have a genuine question bud, are you on the spectrum by chance? I personally am, but why I say this is because I’ve noticed A. How passionate you are for what you like, even giddy, you rock back and forth all the time like self soothing, you’re super clean, and uniform in many ways which means you love order, idk. Just an observation, would be super cool if you were. Cause I really look up to you man, and like I said I’m high functioning myself.

I have ignored all diagnosis because I don't want to be defined by them. I am ME and I am working to be my best ME. Any labels that other "experts" might try to put on my are not helpful :)
@@chrisliepe Amen! We're like minded this way, and I am a massive advocate for this exact thinking. I suppose it's one of those things like where I have to unfortunately use restricted descriptions in order to ask if someone is similar to me that way. But yeah man, as my music teach told me many years ago when I wrote a song for an orchestra. She said Colby you can't fit a square peg in a round hole. Referring to me not being a black and white kind of playing and that it's best if I play the phrases and she transcribes them as I wasn't able to fully write out the music, because if I hear a person or see a person play something I memorize that faster than I would if I tried reading and playing. Haha

At some point this is so "misleading". It looks like he's pushing the volume a lot to sound so freaking aggressive, but I bet it was pretty low in fact. Correct me if I'm wrong here please. Cause I guess that's what make people hurt themselves the most when trying to do that without a professional supervision.

I love Will's voice and Lorna Shore, but I personally can't stand hearing him sing cleans for Sleep Token songs. His voice isn't anywhere near jazzy or fitting for the style. I'm having an extremely hard time understanding why everyone is obsessed with Will's cleans in Sleep Token songs.
