I watched this tragedy on television from California, and I still remember the photographs of those little boys. I’m so glad for everyone, including the community, that this woman will remain in prison.
In South Carolina, at least at the time of the crime, there was no true life-without-parole sentence, only the death penalty or life with the possibility of parole after thirty years. Had she been sentenced to death and then that was overturned, she might have had it commuted to life without parole. I only know this because I read the book written by the father of her two victims. He specifically stated this was why he wanted her sentenced to death.
Susan Smith killed her two boys so a paramour would want her. He didn't want children. What she did was calculatedly murder two innocent little boys. She should never be allowed to be free again. She should have been convicted of two 1st-degree murder charges with no parole. I would hope she could find salvation and give of her self to younger inmates. Her voice is the same as 30 years ago, I would think terrifying to those boys. They knew her! We didn't know what she was capable of. They did.
She should rot in prison until she rots in hell. That's a special kind of monster to send her own innocent, trusting babies to their deaths for absolutely nothing. Disgusting.

She should never get out she sent her children to a certain death and puts Union SC on the map for all the wrong reasons. She put so many people through Hell especially her ex- husband who will never be the same again. Now he has to go through all this again in another two years to make sure she stays right were she is.

She has spent 30 years in prison. She has done nothing. She has taken a few courses, sure. But that's BS. She could have completed her Bachelors, and Masters and PhD. Shes done nothing but break the rules. Her boys had 6 minutes of torture drowning.😢
It looks like she was showing remorse to me. Aside from the childhood sexual abuse, I also suspect the reason she wanted to kill herself was an abusive husband. But, lack of remorse should not be the sole reason for not being released. The likelihood of a repeat in the actions of the offender should be the main criteria, and given that her children are now gone, it's not likely to happen again.
