Smith made national headlines in 1994 after she rolled her car into a lake with both of her children strapped in their seats. Smith was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her two children. As part of her sentencing, and under an old state law, she became automatically eligible for parole after 30 years. Her parole was unanimously denied by the parole board Wednesday.

She is not the victim. Those children strapped in the car were the victims. She should never get out.

Someone who can do this to TWO helpless children who were strapped in and unable to even try to get out and probably had no clue what was as going on at first DESERVES to stay in there for the rest of her life with no chance of parole ever. This is so horrible, the babies deserved so much better ❤

I have severe depression
I have severe depression, bi-polar and ptsd and have never thought about doing harm like this to my kids. I'm glad she's become a Christian but that's not a get out of free card. She should stay in prison and fulfill her punishment. Those babies didn't get a choice to live or die.

Look at how all these years of worry has effected David Smith. He seems like he is completely broken inside.... She destroyed that man! He started crying his eyes out 30 years ago and hasn't stop crying for 30 long years... He has his family, a new wife that loves him and is standing by his side. His daughter... Right by their side. That pain will never go away. We must never allow that to be in vain. Never, ever allow Susan out of prison! Ever! A broken man, and two dead children. Michael is still holding Alex's hand!

If you look into his eyes you can see 30 years of raw pain even when he was interviewed you can just see it he mentioned that his horse fear is forgetting the memory of his sons.

Never showed any remorse to the father of the children she murdered.
She could never be rehabilitated. Never once did she ever write a letter to David apologizing for her evil acts. There are some people in this world like Susan Smith need to be locked up forever.

I have never believed in the death penalty, but when this happened, it was the first time I wanted someone to die a slow death for what they did. It took me a few years to forgive her and happy that she didn’t get the death penalty. But she should never see the light of day. And she’s in a lot safer place. She will be killed by a black person for vengeance if she ever get out. The black community in union was treated as criminals before Susan admitted of killing those babies. Every black man was a target and I don’t think they forgot.

My son was 3 when this happened. It was horrifying. Now my son is 32 and a firefighter. Those little boys might've been great men with families and careers now. It makes me sick thinking she eliminated her children and now has the opportunity to get out and have a job and life like nothing happened.

No the family does not have to go through it every 2 years. For example if the boys father passes away one day and everyone else. And only Susan is left, the parole board itself would look back on the terrible murders and they would quite possibly decide to reject her parole and keep her in prison for longer, on their own judgements and opinions. I know it's morbid to say but it's true. Watch the movie the shawshank redemption. The guy goes through years of parole hearings in there without being released for 40 years. Susan deserves more than 40 years, but the point is the parole board itself will judge her and decide, if no one else or witnesses are there.

So rather than redo this every 2 years, why don't they just re-sentence her to "life" under the new law that "life means life" and just be done with it? To logical and they don't mind putting the family through it every two years so they can all get paid at tax-payers expense?
Maybe people should be asking why life doesn’t mean life in the first place? It’s a bit manipulative to use that in any sentence when it clearly isn’t a life sentence. There is a reason this country was tough on crime and we are all starting to find out why and it has nothing to do with racism.
@@jennifers8843 Agreed. The jury even asked exactly what "life" means and the judge gave them a vague and misleading answer. Not cool.
She was convicted in 1995, so the sentence for murder in '95 was 30 years to life. The law was changed in '96 to life without parole. To re-sentence her would require a new trial which is prohibited due to Double Jeopardy under the Sixth Amendment, since you can't be tried for the same crime or crimes twice.
My prayers are for David smith and those beautiful babies. Alex and Michael are watching from heaven at there daddy. I'm so happy Susan smith didn't get paroled. She needs to stay in prison for good. Prayers for David smith. Now the healing can truly begin.

The boys dad has been in a different type of prison. One he can never escape and I’m so heartbroken that he has to now come every two years to stand before the board and beg them to keep her behind bars. Where is the justice in that? He should be able to live in peace as she rots in prison.

When this happened I had just had my second baby boy. As a mom of two boys my brain could NOT wrap around her crimes.. who could possibly leave their children locked in a car as it goes into the water trapping them. Thank goodness this woman will NOT see freedom today!

30 years have went by so quick. I’m Susan’s age and have a child the same age of the boys. I remember it like it was yesterday. Those precious babies. I’ll never understand how she could do such a thing. She should never be out of prison.
If you notice she keeps wiping the invisible tears from her eyes, when there are no tears. She also keeps wiping her nose when there is no visible signs of her nose running. It's all an act to fool people that are not familiar with the act of a con artist. She should never get out of prison!

😡 I will never forget her interview with the media. As a mother that loves my child, I immediately knew she was lying. I still cringe and am heartbroken to think how scared those babies had to be. Pure TORTURE!! She’s not mentally ill, she’s evil. She was sane enough to carry it through and could have changed her mind. The proof is always in her making up stories.
