Imagine how that mello, at the center of all that, must feel. Most amazing moment ever, best feeling in the world. Guarantee that person'll never, ever forget that moment.
mellophones get all the cool licks. as a trumpet, I'm always jealous. I will say though, from a composition standpoint, a mellophone is technically an "inner voice" (usually considered an alto voice), so when you give them those cool riffs, rips, and licks, it makes them a more significant role in the work. very smart of the composers that utilize it.
@@tylerpenberthy8523As a marching trumpet in the Homestead Spartan Alliance Marching Band, we get cool licks all the time, we have a feature in this year's show Rhapsodic, if you want you should come have a watch or look it up online
You're crazy if you think that this show deserved to medal. BNW is fun and enjoyable to listen to, but compared to some of the other shows performed that year, it was really easy.
When you dream of doing this one day, but realize you don't live anywhere near any DCI Band Headquarters, so you're stuck in New York without a band as a high school senior.
"Sliding into your DM's" meaning someone random hitting on you thru Direct Messengers... = "Sliding into DM's" the bottom bass guy was moving hella fast - so ...he was, jokingly, sliding into Dms
My band had like 120 members in it not including color guard and even tho we always wuiet on recording, ppl say you can hear us two neighborhoods over. We’re a high school
As a drummer/washed up percussionist with a little instrumental knowledge (violin, piano, guitar), I always love hearing you horn players talk about the different instruments, proper arrangements, who's popping out of the ensemble, etc. Yours is a realm I never got to explore, but I appreciate thoroughly! I've probably watching BD Space Chords more times than any one drumline video on youtube. Seems like this will now need to be included in that rotation!
I wish I could be in a marching band again. The emotion i get from hearing this is just magical and better than anything I've ever experienced. This makes me want to cry tears of joy.
I’ve recently been through a really critical time in my life. I play this video over and over, because of the passion and emotion it gives off. It helps me relieve my darkness. Thank you for posting this video. ~2017 & still watching.
I have many DCI favorites. Opening, Closers, Drumline etc. But by far, this is my favorite of "Just a Single Song" I mean NOTHING even comes close to this! Its just plain and simple, the most Beautiful songs ever played by any Corps.
I had to do a routine for this for my commander audition. I love this piece both as a Mello player and as a DCI fan in general. It just sounds so good, and that Mello part is simple yet amazing.
This was the show that introduced me to dci. I’ll never forget the moment I sat with my hs bandmates watching them rehearse this opener and being in absolute shock at how good they were. I ended up marching 2yrs of dci after this show planted the seed. This show (and corps) will always hold a special place in my heart
I heard the Bluecoats perform this in Charleston, WV and I just about CRIED!!! I experienced so many emotions, because this is one of the most beautiful arrangements I have EVER heard and I have been a Drum Corp fan since the 80's. My only disappointment is that they did not close their show with this too.
I was marching Crossmen this year and I made it a point to seem them and listen to them any time we had shows together. Either back field or from the end zone or somewhere in the main stands. So beautiful ❤
This is a heck-of a large-sound, for a band this small. Really good. Masterful arrangement. Most modern day marching bands shake their rumps and juk, you guys di a ballet. Applause, applause, applause.
We had this part in our show this year. It was the most beautiful and empowering moment of the whole thing. It made me want to play the mello so bad. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL :')
Our director chose this piece for our uil show this year and is constantly referencing this performance! Even though we may never sound dci, we will sure give the audience a hell of a performance!!
Every time I watch this video it gives me these emotions. It makes me want to cry sad and happy tears. and it gives me this sense of nostalgia for some reason and a bunch of other feelings I cant explain. Band and music in general is awesome. wtf.
If I could become a scientist and build a time machine... one that would take me back to 2011... one that would take me to this moment, in this show, in this stadium, one that would bring me in front of this sound and glory... I would... even if it would take years and decades of work and dedication. :') Best opener in DCI history. Love this.
I hate how marching bands have fallen into the "peppy marching music" stereotype. To think of it as such is so old fashioned. We're playing this song this year for one of our Universities half time shows, and personally I think it will be our biggest crowd response yet. I bet if the haters who think this song is "not peppy enough" had seen this performance in person, it would have blown them out of the stadium..
Wow. I got chills multiple times just during that one minute. That was beautiful! And the uniforms are wonderful, too! I love the black and deep blue colors to go along with the the helmets, the plumes, and the white lining in the design. It's all fantastic! I am very impressed. The Bluecoats have really become amazing! I haven't watched much drum and bugle corps for a long while because it just felt like it was missing something. Let's have more of this!
Imagine how that mello, at the center of all that, must feel. Most amazing moment ever, best feeling in the world. Guarantee that person'll never, ever forget that moment.
Yea prob never forget it because it was the last thing they heard before going deaf. They played loud lol
Bro what if they forgot it?
holy cow i wish i was that mello 🥲
Same as the baritone at the front of the opening hit for metamorph
@@jackcallahan1848 Bro they've likely played it thousands of times before that moment, there's no way they're forgetting that

Didn't they just recently edge out the Blue Devils for the world championship?
yep, with "down side up"
I wish with Kinetic Noise but...
no. but it could have been...dont be so easily impressed.

The bluecoats are good at making appealing visuals that don't come out as useless eyesores.
TheZacman2 TRUUUUUEE
So true!!!
Yup, they keep it simple and effective! The body visuals in Metropolis are great!
The closing set to Metropolis was 👌👌👌
their props on the other hand 😂
RIP the one mellophone's hearing in the end.
Imagine the chills he must've gotten though

😂 I’m so happy I play mellophone so I get super cool music (very hard)
I've watched this over 100 times and I still get goosebumps. Every time.
Same! do you play any brass?

Always
5 years later...World Champs.
Exactly what is wrong with DCI. This show was worthy of a title. DCI is a joke. Money grubbers. What a shame.
You're crazy if you think that this show deserved to medal. BNW is fun and enjoyable to listen to, but compared to some of the other shows performed that year, it was really easy.
Doktor Detroit 2016 was the first time in recent years that bluecoats had a title worthy show a year when there wasn't 4 other shows just as great.
Doktor Detroit no. If anyone got cheated that year it was crown.
Centrist Drummer have you listened to crown 2011?
When you dream of doing this one day but then you remember you're a woodwind.
I was too :)
When hundreds of woodwinds have learned a corps appropriate instrument and have done this.

NoysE I just played on it for the first time this past season. Pretty amazing.
I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched this. Love it every time.
Don't feel bad! I can't count the number of times I've put this on loop.
The fact that 150 people can fill a stadium that big with sound, jeez
My band had like 120 members in it not including color guard and even tho we always wuiet on recording, ppl say you can hear us two neighborhoods over. We’re a high school
when your band actually knows how to crescendo and decrescendo. they literally stopped the sound dead in it's tracks and crescendoed it to the max...
I watch this once a week full blast to set up my weekend.. I am aware no one cares, but hey I'm still saying it
Thats because you are a weirdo!!! LOL!

I saw this live during their tour and I can't stop thinking about it over a decade later. This was incredible to witness in person.
Director: ok guys lets do the warm up
Mellophones: starts playing creep
Director: *intense glare*
we actually had creep as our warmup chorale
What I love is that not a lot of shows produce the goosies and standing hair that this one does. This was everything live. Everything.
Realizing the bluecoats were dabbing before everyone...
Yeah but we could say the bluecoats were dabbing before it was cool
