I’ve only been in high school band for a year and I can fully agree with you. It’s a bit weird, I’m very introverted but when I’m with my section it’s like my wild side is realeased.
As a part of being in a Marching band during my high school years. I play flute for 1 season, Trumpet for 2 seasons, and caller guard for 1 season (pretty much I’ve being a part of my school marching band for my entire high school years). The trumpet section was the most funnest section as the Trumpeters in that section are fun to hang out with, except that one emo guy. Flute was ok, They’re mostly serious and passionate, though they have a fun side as well. I hate caller guard position, those flags are heavy af and they expect me to swirl it back and forth and dance around with it, I almost hit one trombonist one time during our practice.
Even though I don’t play the Trombone. The people that plays in the Trombone section having the nicest and chilling people. I’m friends with 1-2 of them.
Brings a tear to my eye everytime I see fellow trombonists playing their ass off. We are the backbone in most songs, but you give us the chance to solo we will solo the fuck out of anything.
Trombonists are the most versatile. Melody? Done. Harmony? Done. Lead? Well, you asked us to lead, you didn't say not to blast, so FUCK YOU! Backbone? Fine. Solo? FUCK THE REST OF THE BAND, I'M GONNA BEND THE DAMN SLIDE IF I HAVE TO
As a percussionist I’ve always been overwhelmed by how brass and wind players can just push every ounce of passion and emotion through their instrument. This is singing without words
As a trumpet player I can tell you right now. The way we sing without words and seem to have boundless energy is from our passion. We put all our emotion and hopes and dreams into our music, singing with soul!
As a guitar player ive never heard something so beautiful, so honest and passionate . Those words really dont sum up how i feel watching this. I just tear up
The craziest part about this video is that it came at the end of a very close battle with the other school’s Trombone section, and the rest of the band had never heard them play this song. They looked confused during the build up and that’s why they reacted so hype to the solo, because not only was it absolutely incredible, they had no idea it was coming and being rehearsed behind the scenes. Furthermore, this is only shortly after the section learned the song, since this was the official “unveiling” moment. Which means it’s probably not even these players’ best performance of the song.
That first time performing something you’ve been rehearsing for while, when the emotion is at its highest with all the anticipation and excitement of putting something new out there for everyone to hear, and before all that emotion is clouded up by trying to get all the details right…that’s when MAGIC happens. I guarantee this group chased the feeling that THIS performance brought every single time they played it. It’s awesome they got this moment recorded for them and the world to see for ever. It’s truly something special here.
A M A Z I N G 🔥 ❤️ I watched this on Instagram soooooo many times and still watched it so many times here. It's captivating and speaks to the bone marrow. Good job 🎉it
If I heard something like that 'li e' for the 1st time..and I was in that crowd...I would've been going bananas!!! They didn't react ENOUGH imo...my question is...who wrote it???
Let’s take a second to appreciate the section to commiting to creating such a high volume and balanced effort, and thank the band leader for not calling it blarring and allowing it to happen. As a former trombone player and DCI euph player, that is a unique and once-in-a-lifetime experience they had. That level of musicianship is, especially in a football game band, is unheard of. Outstanding.
You should see the whole video there's another video here thats about 12 minutes long where it's basically all build up to this. This trombone section and the other team's section keep going back and forth with stand tunes and then get met with this at the end
I didn't know what most of those words meant. DCI EUPH.. and so I went down the rabbit hole looking for information. From finding out the difference between a Baritone and "euph" to so much more lol. THANKS.
It’s the football. Nothing beats playing stand tunes to hype up the crowd and just wanting to let it rip. More people see college marching bands than DCI finals or any other band play. That energy is unreal. The first time I got to play in front of over 80,000 people in my college marching band was surreal. The cheering is so loud you can barely hear yourself playing no matter how loud it is. Play some high notes in that environment for the whole season and you put so much air through your horn you start to sound like that. We don’t try to sound polite and beautiful, we try to bring the swagger to tens of thousands of people and we blow until it works
@@Snookbone Sure, but the energy of a crowd like that brings a different sort of strength to players. It's kinda hard to describe if you've never experienced it yourself.

What I absolutely love (besides that otherworldly trombone solo): - they played this during a trombone battle against another school. Though no winners were declared, from this alone I think we all know who "won." - the reason why the rest of the band looks so surprised and hyped is that this is the first time anyone out of the trombone section heard this piece. - even the crowd behind them watching the game got hype for it. If you look closely, you'll see people immediately start standing up and beelining over to the band section. - though it doesn't show in this clip, in the original video, the roar from the crowd and the band were deafening. They all KNEW what they just witnessed and they dunked on the other band h a r d.

This deserved my FULL 1:45 of watching. Hats off to you, young sir, for an exquisite performance.

Jesus that's insane I'd love to do something like this when I go to college if I go
That first time performing something you’ve been rehearsing for while, when the emotion is at its highest with all the anticipation and excitement of putting something new out there for everyone to hear, and before all that emotion is clouded up by trying to get all the details right…that’s when MAGIC happens. I guarantee this group chased the feeling that THIS performance brought every single time they played it. It’s awesome they got this moment recorded for them and the world to see for ever. It’s truly something special here.

The ability of American trombone players in particular to make the extreme high register have the same body of sound as the low-middle is astounding.
@@jacksonpalmer8955 it's an ability I've also noticed in players with no involvement in football.

What I absolutely love (besides that otherworldly trombone solo):
- they played this during a trombone battle against another school. Though no winners were declared, from this alone I think we all know who "won."
- the reason why the rest of the band looks so surprised and hyped is that this is the first time anyone out of the trombone section heard this piece.
What battle was it I want to see what the other school got I’m curious

As a baritone and tuba player I can’t fully understand trombones, but I know the pitches, and that is absolutely crazy. I am not even gonna try to describe that insanity in words.
Trombone is ultimately just slippery baritone
Me: In-band
Nobody: ...
Baritone player: trombones are baritones
Me: the baritone player who posted this so if they were the same how would he not know
Answer man: They aren't the same because pushing against this extra resistance makes playing high notes easier on the baritone than on the trombone. What the two instruments do have in common, is that they play approximately the same range of notes. This is because the length of tubing is roughly the same in both
To understand trombone you must understand that the only real rules is the end of the bell is your best friend and first position is the only true position (this is rarely subject to change)
@@bugsbunny6954 They are similar enough though. I’ve known someone who picked up the valve trombone; they are almost identical at that stage and the only difference is just the tone of the instrument.
