This man is out of this world.
As a saxophone player, his harmonics gave me nightmares.
What he does while dancing and jumping around without looking tired or breathless...
Man this is crazy.
I can't even do that while standing still... And he makes it look effortless...
Just wow.
Since I discovered David Sanborn, he is the biggest shock I've had watching a saxophonist.
He is changing the game.
What's the extended technique to do the buzzing glissando up that he does a bunch? (sorry I'm a guitar player and can't brass worth a crap!)
@@breitbartsimpson4940 maybe you mean the slur from middle G to the B two octaves above? I think it's harmonics (he overblows the reed using the fingering of the lower note, which causes the air column in the saxophone to vibrate at a higher frequency), and by the way, saxophones are woodwind instruments, not brass.
I think Leo P has a RUclips channel where he talks about some of these techniques?
@@joseojeda665 how it works is by running your bottom teeth along the reed you can reach those high screech notes
@Etienne Peyre Yes. I am an amateur-pro saxophonist and every time I see a video of this man performing my jaw hits the floor. His overtones are so beautiful and the way he glissandos so effortlessly while doing his insane dancing just gives me goosebumps.
Gotta give props to that drummer. Lifts up the featured artist without taking any of the spotlight yet nails his part completely.
is it possible to take spotlight from this guy?
This has got to be the sax/drummer from Moon Hooch.
Edit: As others have commented, his band is Too Many Zooz which is no relation in membership to Moon Hooch. They are both related in awesomeness though.
@@rossanderson6464 I think they also went by "Too Many Zooz" when they preformed in New York subway stations.

One small criticism for the transcription is just that that was a bass saxophone. So I think the violin clef should have been a bass clef. But not sure bout that one 🤷♂️
my man took ap symphonic band

This is exactly how humorous music can be. How captivating it can be. Mr. Sax was either born with a knack, or he's incredibly talented through hard work. I'm a trumpet player but I was hooked on this. He is gifted.
If only the other trumpet player on that stage was so generous. Christian "insert yet another name here" Scott's disdain grows along with the bombast and fun of Leo's performance!
Look up “too many zoos”. That’s his band name

This might sound weird but I’m almost more impressed by the level of physical fitness he must have to be able to do this
I'm in awe on the breathing capacity. This guy FEV's must be literally off the charts.
@@ArbiterDanI don't know the volume for saxophone but I played the trumpet and the trombone and youd be surprised how little air you actually need, if you take a deep breath you can produce a solid note for atleast 30 seconds

@@blaubeer8039 I played the trumpet for roughly 4 years and then the trombone for another two, it might have been less on the trombone, time wise and I know that something like this in the video certainly isnt easy I was just gonna add that its actually less lung demanding than someone would think
He's a lifelong smoker
This sax player is Leo Pellegrino. The band he's part of - Too Many Zooz- used to play in the subway. You can hear him playing an adaptation of one of their tracks on the recent movie Babylon 's original score. Insanely good.
I thought it sounded like him, such an amazing player
Insanely good. Understatement of the decade
What happened to the black dude that played the drums, doesnt he do these shows with Leo?
Never forget some stints with Lucky Chops
When I first saw this, I immediately thought he looked and sounded like the sax player in Too Many Zooz
I didn’t even know a saxophone could make some of those sounds. He sounds like a pit crew at a race and evidently has the stamina to run one. The man is a legend.
Lol. I definitely think he could cover a pit crew stop. That would be a heck of a original idea

He'll make who ever he is with a very happy person
Leo P from Too Many Zooz and formerly of Lucky Chops. If you ever get to see Too Many Zooz live, they are fucking great.

I love that people like this exist. People who push the boundaries forwards and elevate humanity. I don't care if it's just a song, it's a creation that is unique and this guy brought it to us.
White people stuff.
I’d just like to point out that the man is doing all this ridiculous movement and jumping while playing a baritone sax. Not an alto, not a tenor, a big ass, heavy ass baritone sax. Absolute mad lad.
The lung capacity to just get SOUND out of that instrument is hard...then homie does a full interpretive dance alongside it...GOT DANG
Yeah how the hell does he breathe AND do the amazing play while moving like that??
Guy has to live in a practice room with a spin bike!
Yeah seriously I could barely hold the damn thing, and it took so much wind power to just make it make a SOUND, let alone whatever the fuck is going on here, like I cannot even with any of this
I played bari sax, and damn this takes a lot of lung power to dance and play at the same time. I have no idea how he gets some of the sounds out of the instrument.
He’s secretly the saxophone god
He’s not dancing… he’s generating *power*
"I can't talk right now. I'm making *POWER* "
Exactly
2 kilo watts to be exacts
Not many people know this, but that man was originally a secret government project. He escaped from inside the reactor where he was housed. That's also why his hair is pink. That's not hair dye, it's laser dye.
Kilotons
As someone who's been to a couple of Too Many Zooz gigs now, this guy is incredible. The things he can make that Saxophone do are unreal. It's really worth seeing the whole group live if you can, since his bandmates Matt and David are equally insane on the trumpet and on percussion respectively!
King Sludge is not in the band or is david his real name? lol
That's his name I believe.
The thing I was unprepared for at the live show was how amazing Matt is on Trumpet. Not that Leo and David aren’t, but the recordings have the trumpet down in the mix and in many cases with effects on it. At the live show it absolutely screams.
David is a little more on top of the beat than this drummer as well.
I've never known the name of the group, thank you so much!
Too Many Zooz and Moon Hooch are my favorite bands. Moon Hooch basically uplifted Zooz, they had a very similar style and they are both soooooo good. Leo is the sexiest though
I'm not musically inclined whatsoever. I can't sing or play any kind of instrument and I don't know anything about music but I do know this. This is the greatest musical performance I ever seen. This guy is freaking awesome. I have never seen anything like this before. I also have no clue why RUclips suggested this video because I never watch anything like this. I'm happy they did because I have more respect and appreciation for musicians. Real musicians
There is a level of skill in anything that when someone reaches we can only react to by saying "oh fuck off" This man has reached that level.

On the violin section they are mostly smiling and enjoying it like "ahah funny" while the brass section is watching with big eyes as if to say "how the hell does he pull that off ?!"

Yeah, I had perfect intonation on the bari, so it's kinda hard to listen to it in most songs that butcher it, and while this guy isn't great when he's still and slow like at the end, I probably couldn't sound as good while moving.
And two more things people don't point out, while moving that much, your mouth, and your reed, is getting dry, and it'll make it sound worse and is harder to control.
Second, the fact he can hold the thing up while moving like that obviously takes a lot of practice. He's holding the whole thing up with his right hand most the time. The neckstrap helps but not for tone.

For people looking for more his name is Leo Pellegrino or Leo P. He is also a member of "Too Many Zooz" and "Lucky Chops" which are 2 fantastic bands. Check them all out!! Fantastic stuff!
Thank You cant find his name anywhere! Cheers!!
I thought it was the guy from lucky chops. He's precisely patented the dance moves and sax style combo.
He quited both bands, I think he's Solo now.
0:30 Imagine being so skilled that you can start speaking in Animal Crossing language and still convince people it is an Legendary Sax Solo
Ok.

😂😂
Ok.@@Danpirix
I suppose if it’s that easy anyone could do it. Right? Instead of slamming him, just say it’s not your kind of music and move on. It’s not mine either but I can appreciate it regardless.
I also like how at the top and bottom of the measures they put stuff like "show epic zebra shoes" or at 1:30 they showed "commence donkey noises" at 2:06 "rotate on crack" and at 2:20 there's my favourite "dirty but clean idk how to explain it" then the best at 2:38 "MEGA SASSY DIRTY DONKEY with PELVIC GYRATION"
Now imagine him standing still doing this.
This is an absolute masterclass in the importance of performance.
You can't stand still when the score explicitly calls for Irish leg shenanigans.
And the hair colour 😊
Its sounds crap tho.. objectively... sax covers of good songs are still sax covers.
@@jamesjross saying something sounds bad is subjective from the start. personally, i think it sounds good. you can't "objectively" state an opinion, because they're by definition subjective.
idk if u can read music but.. this guy can do things musically that as pretty close to impossible@@jamesjross
I was part of the audience that night and one of the 5,000 people going nuts at Leo's performance. I've been going to the Royal Albert Hall for the thick end of 40 years and have never witnessed anyone getting the crowd so whipped up.
That must have been something special
So THAT'S how many to fill the Royal Albert Hall
Really cool come up story! Was street performer when first went viral with the act in NYC subway.
Thanks for sharing that!
Thanks for sharing !
Saw him with his band Too many Zooz open for Coheed and Primus, the energy levels are off the charts. Dude must have lungs stronger than a super marathon runner.
I had wondered what became of this guy after seeing a video of him playing in the subway some years ago. Hope he has continued saxcess, he can really blow.
Happy to say that they sell out stages now.
🧠
🤨
I see what you did there & I approve.
💀
It's wild that he can perform drum and bass on a sax with just only him and one drummer. He's phenomenal!
So odd that a drummer and bassist can perform Drum and Bass. WILD!
1:10 when you're on the character selection menu 😂
Show epic zebra shoes😎
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
This guy is always awesome
🤣🤣🤣
He just came had his fun and left everyone speechless. What a great guy.
This guy doesn't just wear pink, he invented it.
He IS pink
It’s more of magenta tho, reminds me of a certain rider passing by
Pink Guy: 🙍♂️
@@JojoplayABhair is pink, suit is magenta
If pink ever didn't look whack on a dude, it's this homie.
When there's a zeppelin that needs to be inflated, they call this guy. He once saved a coastal town from destruction by inhaling an oncoming hurricane. His lungs have abs.
wtf lmao
Explains a lot... 🤔
I lol'd so hard 😂
😆😆😆
No one:
Absolutely No One:
Sheet Music: "commence Mega Sassy Dirty Donkey Noises with PELVIC GYRATION" 😂
"Show epic zebra boots" xD
Each new season of Power Rangers just gets crazier with their attacks.
STOP-
The amount of times I'm scrolling in the comments only to find something that just happened in the video or just before it happens
"dirty but clean idk how to explain" and "rotate on crack" are fun too
1:05 at E he became a better electric guitar than most electric guitars
The amount of times I have come back to this performance is too many to count. The ability, the showmanship, the FUN
Genuinely one of the best musical performances ever
It’s really not that impressive. It’s good but not mind blowing
@@II-Drugga-II
This better be bait
Otherwise I’d like to hear your bogus ass reasoning
Cause all I see is an attention whore ❤️
Please tell me what is insane about this performance then bud. He’s playing in a major scale no fancy modes, and nothing he’s playing is creative other than some dog shit octaves, he’s playing it clean so I’ll give him that but if this is what sax players class as mind blowing then fuck me yous are well behind compared to todays musicians
@@II-Drugga-II damn
Really that hard to please lol
To anyone not familiar with wind instruments, there's something called continuous breathing. Meaning that this saxophone player is breathing through his nose while playing. Which is highly impressive, even for skilled players. A trumpet named Ibrahim Maalouf can do it too but not like that
wait, is that even physiologically possible? like, breathing out while breathing in? bc if so it’s news to me 😅 or do you just mean taking super short breaths in while still having your mouth on the mouthpiece, training your breath, stuff like that? im just a little confused!!
@@toothcruncher The proper term is "circular breathing" which is done by holding air in the cheeks and pushing it out with your cheek muscles while quickly taking a breath in through your nose. Circular breathing is easy to learn over a few sessions of practice, but very difficult to incorporate into a performance like the one we just saw
@@travisford5924 cigar smokers do this as well...lol
Oh damn so hes also a Demon Slayer
Circular breathing. I learned it for didgeridoo its worth it
The breath control is insane! Always impressive to see someone master their craft and then take in into levels rarely (if ever) achieved.
A new sax man has emerged
this is what true passion is. expressing yourself in every way without any limitations by the instrument. just you and whatever is in your head, put into reality without even pausing. I always loved his subway videos with the groups, kept the same hype same energy level same attitude everything. give this man a baritone and you'll never leave w a frown on your face.
The most impressive thing to me is how clean the sound is.
Whenever I think about Leo P's legendary BBC prom performance, I'm reminded that there were *other* saxophonists in the orchestra behind him... talk about being outshined lmao
Leo is a legend!
*outshone
@@fcturnerdon't tell Chris Cornell that
Both are correct.@@fcturner
That was really awesome, how the heck was he making some of those crazy sounds come out of that sax?!
I'm in awe of bothering to do a full transcription whilst also throwing in iconic one liners like "epic zebra shoes" and "Irish leg shenanigans". 😂😂
as a bari sax player, those things are HEAVY which makes this all the more impressive
The guy replaced his lungs with jet engines.
😂😂😂😂
I think this guy's grandfather was a great saxophone player. And this guy is the one who was playing with his band in the NY subway.
Mans really started with an R2-D2 scream
Lol.
HAHAHAHAHA
This man could play notes that look like a they were on a flute music sheet and still has energy to dance and hype up the audience; this man is insane
As someone who used to play the sax incredibly mediocrely, this man is a god! I love how everyone else on stage is just like, “holy shit, just LOOK at this madman!”
Worth it watching the whole thing, i was just gonna look a bit before I got drawn in….no pun intended😂
Ive seen this guy play live 4 times now and everytime is an absolute blast
Dude, I envy you for that. In NY?
do you know the name to search more videos of this guy pls?
